  • Django Project Done and Working. Now What?

    Hi, I just finished what I would call a small django project and pretty soon it's going live. It's only 6 models but a fairly complex view layer and a lot of records saving and retrieving. Of course, forgetting the obvious huge amount of bugs that will, probably, fill my inbox to the top, what would it be the next step towards a website with best performance. What could be tweaked? I'm using jmeter a lot recently and feel confident that I have a good baseline for future performance comparisons, but the thing is: I'm not sure what is the best start, since I'm a greedy bastard that wants to work the least possible and gather the best results. For instance, should I try an approach towards infrastructure, like a distributed database, or should I go with the code itself and in that case, is there something that specifically results in better performance? In your experience, whats pays off more? Personal anecdotes are welcome, but some fact based opinions are even more. :) Thanks very much.

I'm trying to write a program that can use them, if no one knows of a resource, any tips on reverse engineering the spec my self? I opened it up in a Hex editor and poked around, looks like an MP3 but with a ton more header info.

  • Different characters take more/less data?

    I am working on a personal project and I'm wondering if certain characters take up more data in a text file than others. I need to choose a character to seperate items in my file, but if a 0 uses less bytes than a ! or something, it would be best to do that. I know all characters have an ASCII value, but would a lower ASCII value mean the character can be stored in fewer bytes? This might be an incredibly stupid question, but I don't see any information on the topic online so I came here to check. Thanks!

  • Gain Access to Mouse Clicks in C# Component

    I am using the ScintillaNET component and I am attempting to capture clicks in the margin, as this will determine how I respond. Unfortunately, the margins capture the mouse events (and don't provide a way, from what I can see, to get the click information - number of clicks, mouse button clicked, etc). If this is indeed the case (I am not able to get that info directly), what is another way of capturing what the mouse is doing before the MarginClick event is fired? Thanks for any help!

    The command hg outgoing compares the local repo to the default push location; it accesses the push location to do it. I'd like to ask the question "have I checked in changes in my local repo since my last hg push?" without having to access the remote repo. It seems like there might be enough info in the local repo to figure that out; if so, is there a command to determine that?

  • Information not getting into the controller from the view. (authologic model)

    Right now I'm building a project management app in rails, here is some background info: Right now i have 2 models, one is User and the other one is Client. Clients and Users have a one-to-one relationship (client - has_one and user - belongs_to which means that the foreign key it's in the users table) So what I'm trying to do it's once you add a client you can actually add credentials (add an user) to that client, in order to do so all the clients are being displayed with a link next to that client's name meaning that you can actually create credentials for that client. So in order to do that I'm using a helper the link to helper like this. <%= link_to "Credentials", {:controller => 'user', :action => 'new', :client_id => client.id} %> Meaning that he url will be constructed like this: http://localhost:3000/clients/2/user/new By creating the user for the client with he ID of 2. And then capturing the info into the controller like this: @user = User.new(:client_id => params[:client_id]) The weird thing is that EVERY other information BUT the client id it's getting passed and the client ID should be passed with the params[:client_id]. Any ideas? Perhaps it may have something to do with the fact that model User has "acts_as_authentic" because I'm using authologic for it?     My Windows application GUI is accepting some required application configuration fields from the user. I need to store them of course, but I wanna hide these fields from the user. I cannot use database to store these configs. I want to avoid using app.config either. (No app.config encryption) Any suggestions, Where and in which format i should store fields. (Field example is: Accepting database User credentials, Task Schedule info etc.)

So the page users visit to see the connection info (meetingID, password) includes the start time of the meeting. I need a button ('Connect To Meeting') to change from inactive to Active when [Now() < (StartTime()-15minutes)].

  • methods of joining 2 tables without using JOIN or SELECT more than one distinct table in the query

    Is there a way of joining results from 2 tables without using JOIN or SELECT from more than one table? The reason being the database im working with requires queries that only contain SELECT, FROM, and WHERE clauses containing only one distinct table. I do, however, need information from other tables for the project i'm working on. More info: the querier returns the query results in a .csv format, is there something we can manipulate there?

  • Should I include locally or remotely?

    Just something I wonder about when including files: Say I want to include a file, or link to it. Should I just for example: include("../localfile.php"); or should I instead use include("http://sameserver.com/but/adirect/linkto/localfile.php"); Is one better than the other? Or more secure? Or is it just personal preference? Clearly it would be a necessity if you had a file that you would include into files in multiple directories, and THAT file includes a different file, or is there some other way of doing that?

    Its common for the dataSource and delegate to be the same object, its also common for this object to be the viewController. In all the info/tutorials that I have seen online delegates are always setup as above. If I wanted to create my own class instead can anyone give me any pointers as to how I might do that. Where does that object get instantiated, how do you connect the dataSource and delegate items etc. I am using UITableView to test this.

  • A step-up from TiddlyWiki that is still 100% portable?

    TiddlyWiki is a great idea, brilliantly implemented. I'm using it as a portable personal "knowledge manager," and these are the prize virtues: It travels on my USB flash memory stick and runs on any computer, regardless of operating system No software installation is needed on the computer (TiddlyWiki merely uses the Internet browser) No Internet connection is needed In terms of data retrieval functionality, it mimics a relational database (use of tags and internal links) Let's say I've got a million words of prose in 4,000 tiddlers (posts). I'm still testing, but it looks like TiddlyWiki gets very slow. Is there an app like TiddlyWiki that keeps all the virtues I listed above, and allows more storage? NOTE: Separation of content and presentation would be ideal. It's nifty that TiddlyWiki has everything in a single HTML document, but it's unhelpful in many ways. I don't care if a directory of assorted docs is needed (SQLite, XML?), as long as it's functionally self-contained.

    I installed Oracle SOA Suite 11g. I start the NodeManager successfully. I start the AdminServer successfully.
