• TrueCrypt Failing to Decrypt External Hard Drive after changing Enclosures

  I have a 4TB external hard drive that was previously encrypted using TrueCrypt. The power source on the hard drive enclosure failed, so I had to switch the hard drive itself into a new enclosure. I can no longer decrypt the hard drive using TrueCrypt, as it says my password is wrong. I am certain that I entering the correct password. Additionally, in TrueCrypt, when I try to mount the volume under "Select Device", it shows the following: Harddisk 5: 3.6TB Device\Harddisk5\Partition 1 H: 465GB Whereas before I changed the enclosure it would show: Harddisk 5: 3.6TB Device\Harddisk5\Partition 1 H: 3.6TB I am on a Windows 8 PC and using TrueCrypt 7.1a. How can I get it to decrypt properly?

• send apache request identifier to backend when using mod_rewrite

  I'm using mod_rewrite to send requests from the client to a backend server. I've seen in the rewrite log that Apache sets a sid (Session Identifier?) and rid (request identifier?) and shows them in the logs. Would it be possible to send the rid to the backend server as a http header? that way I can link a request in the apache with a request in the backend server. • "cannot open file system. File system seems damaged "

  I was using windows 7 till yesterday. I tried to install ubuntu 14. 04 Lts version yesterday with in windows 7. But it was not succeeded. Then I decided to install ubuntu only. By mistake I installed ubuntu in whole disk. After that to get deleted partitions I installed testdisk. I also used deeper search option. Now I'm getting "file system damaged". It shows The hard disk (320GB /298 GiB) seems to small! (<473 GB /441 GB) Check the Harddisk size: HD Jumpers setings, BIOS detection... The following partitions can't be recovered: Partition start end size in sectrors Linux 19077 177 45 57604 81 13 618930716 Linux 19080 192 57 57607 96 25 618930716 With ubcd also I used testdisk option. Same result comes."cannot open file system. File system seems damaged ". I have all my stuff in hard disk. Please help me to get recover my files in deleted partitions.

• ZenGallery: a minimalist image gallery for Orchard

  There are quite a few image gallery modules for Orchard but they were not invented here I wanted something a lot less sophisticated that would be as barebones and minimalist as possible out of the box, to make customization extremely easy. So I made this, in less than two days (during which I got distracted a lot). Nwazet.ZenGallery uses existing Orchard features as much as it can: Galleries are just a content part that can be added to any type The set of photos in a gallery is simply defined by a folder in Media Managing the images in a gallery is done using the standard media management from Orchard Ordering of photos is simply alphabetical order of the filenames (use 1_, 2_, etc. prefixes if you have to) The path to the gallery folder is mapped from the content item using a token-based pattern The pattern can be set per content type You can edit the generated gallery path for each item The default template is just a list of links over images, that get open in a new tab No lightbox script comes with the module, just customize the template to use your favorite script. • ADF Seeded Customizations in JDeveloper 11.1.2.1

  For the ADF training I needed a demo application that shows ADF seeded customizations functionality. I’m using the latest JDeveloper 11.1.2.1, so I decided to download the “Customizing and Personalizing an ADF Application” completed tutorial application available here I’ve downloaded and unzipped the CustomizeApp.zip and opened the CustomizeApp.jws in the JDeveloper 11.1.2.1 using the Customization Role. The result was the following: MDS-00036 “Cannot instantiate the class oracle.model.mycompany.SiteCC”. I thought: “OK, that’s because SiteCC class is not accessible to JDeveloper classloader, I should jar it and put to the <JDEVELOPER_HOME> \jdev\lib\patches like I did in JDeveloper 11.1.1.5 and ealier”.  No way, it JDeveloper 11.1.2 we do not have this patches directory at all! It seems that is because of the new architecture of the JDeveloper plugins based on OSGi.   I looked through the tutorial and have not found any step related to the jar–ing the SiteCC class and moving it to the specific directory.  So, JDeveloper 11.1.2  is smart enough to find my customization class and add it to the classpath without any specific actions from my side.  But why am I getting this “cannot instantiate the class” error?I’ve checked at the the full path to my CustomizeApp.jws  - c:\temp\ADF personalizations\CustomizeApp\CustomizeApp.jws  and noticed the space in the name of the directory.  Was it the root cause of the issue?  Yes!  I’ve renamed the ADF personalizations folder to pers, opened the c:\temp\pers\CustomizeApp\CustomizeApp.jws,  and received the expected behaviour: So, be aware of the spaces in the paths when working with JDeveloper…

• What can I do about rsync of large files killing my laptop's wifi connection

  When I run a rsync to backup my home folder over the network like so: rsync -avhz --progress --delete /home/dbdean/ [email protected]:/home/backups/david/ I seem to have problems with my quite large .VirtualBox/HardDisks/Windows XP.vdi file. Occasionally the wifi will silently fail (the transfer stops, and any other network access is broken). If I reconnect the wifi to my network before the transfer times out, it happily keeps going (and other network access is back), but I can't just leave it unattended most of the time, as I have to keep an eye on it. I'm guessing this is probably a bug in the wireless card related to a particularly high sustained volume of network usage, but I'm not really sure where to start with diagnosing this problem so that I can provide a good bug report. Or it could be something else, I guess. Any help would be appreciated. My network card is an Atheros Communications Inc. • Double Filter in Excel

  I'm trying to "stack" filters in excel, so to speak. I want to filter column A to show anything greater than 30 and then I want to filter column B to show the top ten items. When I do this, however, it shows me all rows that fit both criteria (only five records). I want to first fit the criteria for column A and then filter these results to show the top ten items in column B (10 records total). I know that I could just copy the rows from my first filter to a new sheet and then filter the new worksheet, but is there any way to apply both filters so that I don't physically have to delete records this way? For this, more fine grained protection can be defined using the ResourcePermission, a generic JAAS permission class owned by the Oracle Platform Security Services (OPSS).  Using the ResourcePermission  class, developers can grant permission to functional parts of an application that are not protected by page or task flow security. For example, an application menu allows creating and canceling product shipments to customers. However, only a specific user group - or application role, which is the better way to use ADF Security - is allowed to cancel a shipment. To enforce this rule, a permission is needed that can be used declaratively on the UI to hide a menu entry and programmatically in Java to check the user permission before the action is performed. Note that multiple lines of defense are what you should implement in your application development. Don't just rely on UI protection through hidden or disabled command options. To create menu protection permission for an ADF Security enable application, you choose Application | Secure | Resource Grants from the Oracle JDeveloper menu. The opened editor shows a visual representation of the jazn-data.xml file that is used at design time to define security policies and user identities for testing. An option in the Resource Grants section is to create a new Resource Type. A list of pre-defined types exists for you to create policy definitions for. Many of these pre-defined types use the ResourcePermission class. To create a custom Resource Type, for example to protect application menu functions, you click the green plus icon next to the Resource Type select list. The Create Resource Type editor that opens allows you to add a name for the resource type, a display name that is shown when granting resource permissions and a description. The ResourcePermission class name is already set. In the menu protection sample, you add the following information: Name: MenuProtection Display Name: Menu Protection Description: Permission to grant menu item permissions OK the dialog to close the resource permission creation. To create a resource policy that can be used to check user permissions at runtime, click the green plus icon in the Resources section of the Resource Grants section. In the Create Resource dialog, provide a name for the menu option you want to protect. To protect the cancel shipment menu option, create a resource with the following settings Resource Type: Menu Protection Name: Cancel Shipment Display Name: Cancel Shipment Description: Grant allows user to cancel customer good shipment   A new resource Cancel Shipmentis added to the Resources panel. Initially the resource is not granted to any user, enterprise or application role. To grant the resource, click the green plus icon in the Granted To section, select the Add Application Role option and choose one or more application roles in the opened dialog. Finally, you click the process action to define the policy. Note that permission can have multiple actions that you can grant individually to users and roles. The cancel shipment permission for example could have another action "view" defined to determine which user should see that this option exist and which users don't. To use the cancel shipment permission, select the disabled property on a command item, like af:commandMenuItem and click the arrow icon on the right. From the context menu, choose the Expression Builder entry. Expand the ADF Bindings | securityContext node and click the userGrantedResource option. Hint: You can expand the Description panel below the EL selection panel to see an example of how the grant should look like. The EL that is created needs to be manually edited to show as #{!securityContext.userGrantedResource[               'resourceName=Cancel Shipment;resourceType=MenuProtection;action=process']} OK the dialog so the permission checking EL is added as a value to the disabled property. Running the application and expanding the Shipment menu shows the Cancel Shipments menu item disabled for all users that don't have the custom menu protection resource permission granted.   When I try to run Metacity in Ubuntu2D(12.04), I get the following message: alisa@ubuntu:~$ metacity Window manager warning: Screen 0 on display ":2.0" already has a window manager; try using the --replace option to replace the current window manager. I get the same message when running Compiz from the command line in 3D (it opens fine through the GUI (same thing for AWN)). I understand that these should be the default managers for the respective sessions. I'm trying to create a custom Gnome session using the following instructions: unity launcher-free session. Here is what I've put into my .session file: [GNOME Session] Name=Custom Unity2D Session RequiredComponents=gnome-settings-daemon; RequiredProviders=windowmanager;panel; DefaultProvider-windowmanager=metacity DefaultProvider-panel=unity-2d-panel FallbackSession=ubuntu-2d DesktopName=GNOME Since I'm having problems identifying my default, and the code refers to Metacity, I figured this may be relevant to my inability to load the custom session (it shows up on my login screen, but won't launch). I tried specifying Metacity as my default manager by adding exec metacity to the .xinitrc file, and I tried running metacity --replace, but neither worked. How do I determine my current default window manager, what should the default be, and how do I re-assign it? • Strange problem with Exchange client connection

  I've got a strange problem with an Exchange 2007 server running on SBS 2008. It's been working fine for users for the last 5 months, then 5 days ago they started getting a problem where Outlook would popup a window asking for credentials. If the user enters there credentials it pops up again and again, however if the user cancels the box it goes away and outlook continues to work fine. These clients all connect using Outlook Anywhere, and OWA access is also working fine. I had thought this message box may have been to do with other POP or IMAP accounts being configured in Outlook, but it's not the case. I have re-configured Outlook Anywhere on the server but to no avail. Using the RPC diagnostic tool in Outlook shows no problems. There are no errors showing in the event log. The server seems to be running fine, so to me this seems like either a client, or an RPC over HTTP issue, but I'm not getting anywhere finding the cause, any help is appreciated!

• Asus V1S/V1V inverter cable

  I have an Asus V1V, which is the same as the Asus V1S except for the video card. I have a problem where the screen will randomly lose brightness or flicker between being lit and not lit. The picture below is of the left hinge, with the cover removed. Pressing one of these cables affects this behaviour, and pressing it in place will resolve the issue for a few hours. To me this means the inverter cable is damaged. As the picture shows, there are two cables, an LCD cable and what I assume is an inverter cable. I purchased an LCD cable for my model of laptop, but have been unable to find an inverter cable. It seems not to exist. I would like some input on if an inverter cable actually exists, if it is likely the problem, or solutions in general to resolve this problem permanently.

After formatting from within Windows I can put data on the new disk volume. -- Back in Ubuntu however I cannot access this this any more since it created a partition within an LVM Logical Volume. • Random flickering on 2.6.32 kernels after suspend

  I have XUbuntu 9.10 installed on a Toshiba NB200 netbook with Intel video card that's handled with i915 driver. With 2.6.31 stable, recommended kernel everything but WiFi works fine: Atheros ath9k WiFi shows too small signal power and loses packets in 'bursts' sometimes. With 2.6.32-* (I tested -9 to -11 from Ubuntu's kernel unstable ppa) everything works fine just prior to first suspend: echo mem >/sys/power/state. After it random unidentified fullscreen 'one-frame' flickering begins in Xorg, and after a couple of minutes everything eventually hangs while showing filled grey (not white; it is like default button colour) screen; no X keys are working: Ctrl+Alt+Fn don't, blind typing in console too. Magic SysRq still works and I was able to reboot. Also there is one out-of-tree kernel module called omnibook that is required to turn on WiFi and Bluetooth. Any advices?

• Tomcat and IIS6 on one server, multiple websites

  Windows Server 2003 with IIS6 and Tomcat 6.0.26. Three sites running on this server. One is PHP, one is ASP and the third uses Tomcat. The first two work flawlessly. The third is being a pain. Tomcat is installed and if called on the server itself by IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080 shows the welcome page. Calling the same address from an external machine gives a 'could not connect' error. Calling the ip address from within the server on standard port 80 gives me an error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE). Have tried using httpcfg to force listening only on ports within the ip range I'm using in a manner similar to question 35650 located here on serverfault but with no success. There are actually ten ip addresses on this machine but I'm only using three of them at this point. Any pointers on troubleshooting this would be appreciated!

  Hi, we have a Win7 with Media Center that is connected to a large screen. It displays a corporate slideshow near the coffeemachine. When the computer is started it automatically logs in and starts the slideshow. The problem is that on irregular time intervals (once a day, some days not) the slideshow stops and it switches to the login screen and shows which user is logged on. We don't know why this is happening. We first thought someone on the network was trying to open RDC connection to the machine, because it is the same sympthon like when you take over a machine by RDC with a different user, but nobody is doing that. Screensaver is disabled, energy settings "always on" Anybody ideas why this is happening?

• Getting live traffic/visitor analytics when using a reverse proxy

  I'm in process of implementing Varnish as a reverse proxy for a Ruby on Rails app and I'm using Google Analytics (JS/client side script to record visitor data) but it's several hours delayed so its useless for knowing what's going on now. I need at a glance live data that includes referring traffic and what current req/sec is. Right now I am using a simple Rack middleware application to do the live stats (gist.github.com/235745) but if the majority of traffic hits Varnish, Rack will never be hit so this won't work. The closest solution I've found so far is http://www.reinvigorate.net/ but it's in beta (there are also no implementation details on their front page). Does Varnish have traffic logs that I can custom format to match my Apache logs so I can combine them, or will I have to roll my own JS implementation like GA that shows the data in real time?

• How to create a "retro" pixel shader for transformed 2D sprites that maintains pixel fidelity?

  The image below shows two sprites rendered with point sampling on top of a background: The left skull has no rotation/scaling applied to it, so every pixel matches perfectly with the background. The right skull is rotated/scaled, and this results in larger pixels that are no longer axis aligned. How could I develop a pixel shader that would render the transformed sprite on the right with axis aligned pixels of the same size as the rest of the scene? This might be related to how sprite scaling was implemented in old games such as Monkey Island, because that's the effect I'm trying to achieve, but with rotation added. Edit As per kaoD's suggestions, I tried to address the problem as a post-process. The easiest approach was to render to a separate render target first (downsampled to match the desired pixel size) and then upscale it when rendering a second time. It did address my requirements above. First I tried doing it Linear -> Point and the result was this: There's no distortion but the result looks blurred and it loses most of the highlights colors. In my opinion it breaks the retro look I needed. The second time I tried Point -> Point and the result was this: Despite the distortion, I think that might be good enough for my needs, although it does look better as a still image than in motion. To demonstrate, here's a video of the effect, although YouTube filtered the pixels out of it: http://youtu.be/hqokk58KFmI However, I'll leave the question open for a few more days in case someone comes up with a better sampling solution that maintains the crisp look while decreasing the amount of distortion when moving.

• NTFS write speed really slow (<15MB/s) on Ubuntu

  When copying large files or testing writespeed with dd, the max writespeed I can get is about 12-15MB/s on drives using the NTFS filesystem. I tested multiple drives (all connected using SATA) which all got writespeeds of 100MB/s+ on Windows or when formatted with ext4, so it's not an alignment or drive issue. top shows high cpu usage for the mount.ntfs process. AMD dual core processor (2.2 GHz) Kernel version: 3.5.0-23-generic Ubuntu 12.04 ntfs-3g version: both 2012.1.15AR.1 (Ubuntu default version) and 2013.1.13AR.2 How can I fix the writespeed?

• Show Windows 8 Start Menu on the primary monitor

• Introduction to LinqPad Driver for StreamInsight 2.1

  We are announcing the availability of the LinqPad driver for StreamInsight 2.1. The purpose of this blog post is to offer a quick introduction into the new features that we added to the StreamInsight LinqPad driver. We’ll show you how to connect to a remote server, how to inspect the entities present of that server, how to compose on top of them and how to manage their lifetime. Installing the driver Info on how to install the driver can be found in an earlier blog post here. Establishing connections As you click on the “Add Connection” link in the left pane you will notice that now it’s possible to build the data context automatically. The new driver appears as an option in the upper list, and if you pick it you will open a connection dialog that lets you connect to a remote StreamInsight server. The connection dialog lets you specify the address of the remote server. You will notice that it’s possible to pick up the binding information from the configuration file of the LinqPad application (which is normally in the same folder as LinqPad.exe and is called LinqPad.exe.config). In order for the context to be generated you need to pick an application from the server. The control is editable hence you can create a new application if you don’t want to make changes to an existing application. If you choose a new application name you will be prompted for confirmation before this gets created. Once you click OK the connection is created and you can start issuing queries against the remote server. If there’s any connectivity error the connection is marked with a red X and you can see the error message informing you what went wrong (i.e., the remote server could not be reached etc.). The context for remote servers Let’s take a look at what happens after we are connected successfully. Every LinqPad query runs inside a context – think of it as a class that wraps all the code that you’re writing. If you’re connecting to a live server the context will contain the following: The application object itself. All entities present in this application (sources, sinks, subjects and processes). The picture below shows a snapshot of the left pane of LinqPad after a successful connection. Every entity on the server has a different icon which will allow users to figure out its purpose. You will also notice that some entities have a string in parentheses following the name. It should be interpreted as such: the first name is the name of the property of the context class and the second name is the name of the entity as it exists on the server. Not all valid entity names are valid identifier names so in cases where we had to make a transformation you see both. Note also that as you hover over the entities you get IntelliSense with their types – more on that later. Remoting is not supported As you play with the entities exposed by the context you will notice that you can’t read and write directly to/from them. If for instance you’re trying to dump the content of an entity you will get an error message telling you that in the current version remoting is not supported. This is because the entity lives on the remote server and dumping its content means reading the events produced by this entity into the local process. ObservableSource.Dump(); Will yield the following error: Reading from a remote 'System.Reactive.Linq.IQbservable`1[System.Int32]' is not supported. Use the 'Microsoft.ComplexEventProcessing.Linq.RemoteProvider.Bind' method to read from the source using a remote observer. This basically tells you that you can call the Bind() method to direct the output of this source to a sink that has to be defined on the remote machine as well. You can’t bring the results to the LinqPad window unless you write code specifically for that. Compose queries You may ask – what's the purpose of all that? After all the same information is present in the EventFlowDebugger, why bother with showing it in LinqPad? First of all, What gets exposed in LinqPad is not what you see in the debugger. In LinqPad we have a property on the context class for every entity that lives on the server. Because LinqPad offers IntelliSense we in fact have much more information about the entity, and more importantly we can compose with that entity very easily. For example, let’s say that this code creates an entity: using (var server = Server.Connect(...)) {     var a = server.CreateApplication("WhiteFish");     var src = a         .DefineObservable<int>(() => Observable.Range(0, 3))         .Deploy("ObservableSource"); If later we want to compose with the source we have to fetch it and then we can bind something to     a.GetObservable<int>("ObservableSource)").Bind(... This means that we had to know a bunch of things about this: that it’s a source, that it’s an observable, it produces a result with payload Int32 and it’s named “ObservableSource”. Only the second and last bits of information are present in the debugger, by the way. As you type in the query window you see that all the entities are present, you get IntelliSense support for them and it’s much easier to make sense of what’s available. Let’s look at a scenario where composition is plausible. With the new programming model it’s possible to create “cold” sources that are parameterized. There was a way to accomplish that even in the previous version by passing parameters to the adapters, but this time it’s much more elegant because the expression declares what parameters are required. Say that we hover the mouse over the ThrottledSource source – we will see that its type is Func<int, int, IQbservable<int>> - this in effect means that we need to pass two int parameters before we can get a source that produces events, and the type for those events is int – in the particular case of my example I had the source produce a range of integers and the two parameters were the start and end of the range. So we see how a developer can create a source that is not running yet. Then someone else (e.g. an administrator) can pass whatever parameters appropriate and run the process. Proxy Types Here’s an interesting scenario – what if someone created a source on a server but they forgot to tell you what type they used. Worse yet, they might have used an anonymous type and even though they can refer to it by name you can’t figure out how to use that type. Let’s walk through an example that shows how you can compose against types you don’t need to have the definition of. This is how we can create a source that returns an anonymous type: Application.DefineObservable(() => Observable.Range(1, 10).Select(i => new { I = i })).Deploy("O1"); Now if we refresh the connection we can see the new source named O1 appear in the list. But what’s more important is that we now have a type to work with. So we can compose a query that refers to the anonymous type. var threshold = new StreamInsightDynamicDriver.TypeProxies.AnonymousType1_0<int>(5); var filter = from i in O1              where i > threshold              select i; filter.Deploy("O2"); You will notice that the anonymous type defined with this statement: new { I = i } can now be manipulated by a client that does not have access to it because the LinqPad driver has generated another type in its stead, named StreamInsightDynamicDriver.TypeProxies.AnonymousType1_0. This type has all the properties and fields of the type defined on the server, except in this case we can instantiate values and use it to compose more queries. It is worth noting that the same thing works for types that are not anonymous – the test is if the LinqPad driver can resolve the type or not. If it’s not possible then a new type will be generated that approximates the type that exists on the server. Control metadata In addition to composing processes on top of the existing entities we can do other useful things. We can delete them – nothing new here as we simply access the entities through the Entities collection of the application class. Here is where having their real name in parentheses comes handy. There’s another way to find out what’s behind a property – dump its expression. The first line in the output tells us what’s the name of the entity used to build this property in the context. Runtime information So let’s create a process to see what happens. We can bind a source to a sink and run the resulting process. If you right click on the connection you can refresh it and see the process present in the list of entities. Then you can drag the process to the query window and see that you can have access to process object in the Processes collection of the application. • weird resolving of path to command

  I have the terminal editor 'nano' installed in two places on my mac /usr/bin/nano /opt/local/bin/nano The installations are of different versions. the one in /usr does not support my configuration in ~/.nanorc and the one in /opt does. when i open a file with the command 'nano file', errors are displayed, indicating that the one in /usr was used, however, if i run 'which nano'; the one in /opt shows up. Isn't 'which' meant to search the path for the default? And why wouldn't a call to 'nano' resolve to the same path? EDIT: I made a work-around by adding the following line to ~/.profile alias nano='/opt/local/bin/nano'
