    What is the procedure for securing a Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP Server (or even Perl) for production use? Other than setting the MySql password and the root password for linux what other (maybe not so obvious) steps should be taken?     I want to downgrade to SL3 on my Mac after accidently installing SL4 Beta. I've tried the SL3 uninstall procedure: rm -rf /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/Silverlight.plugin rm -rf /Library/Receipts/Silverlight*.pkg rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft/Silverlight But still get an error message when I try to install SL3 saying there is a newer version there. Anyone got any input on how to do this ?

I tried changing the Libraries icon in %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows. That did not change the icon on the taskbar. What should I be doing to change the icon?

  • SQL Server compatibility mode not logged

    I've been researching a problem which was diagnosed as someone changing the compatability mode for the SQL Server database from 80 to 90 on SQL Server 2005 for a database which had it's compatibility mode set to 80 due to legacy stored procedure code not having been upgraded. I found that when changing the compatibility mode this is not logged in the SQL Server logs. Has anyone seen this issue and is this a bug or is there an alternative method to track these changes?

    Hello, I work on a very large project (10000+ versions) and sometimes it happened that I need to know who of the other users deleted some line in a file. Is there a way to do that that? I can do svn blame with revision number to check if a line exists in that revision, then see in which revision the line is gone and see who commited that revision, but that procedure is lame with that large project. Is there a smarter way to do that?

So I'm trying to get additional info about the error. Does SQL server 2008 have any kind of error log that I can look into? Do exist any auditing/logging features that I can activate to trace the error (if it happens again)?

  • Do I need to recreate statistics if I had to drop them to add a foreign key

    I have a database which had all it's foreign-key relationships dropped at some unknown time in the past (don't ask). I have an old copy of the database which isn't good to restore from, but the schema has the relationships. I'm working from that to create a script to restore the keys. In updating the tables, I've had to drop statistics from several tables. Do I need to manually recreate those, or can I just run the statistics update procedure when all the tables are updated?

    Hello, Im looking for the best way to accomplish a full backup of our "vmail" accounts on our mail server (CentOS "iRedMail" 5.1). I also need to split on 4GB parts the resulting tar or bzip compressed backup, and get this DVD-RW burned, on same server. The idea is to get this procedure to running overnight, once a week.     The version of Apache shipped in RHEL 5.4 is very old. A feature I need only shipped recently. It seems Apache upstream only ships tarballs, and omits binary packages. Obviously I could build from source, but what's the canonical way to upgrade a single package like this? Is it common procedure to drop a newer tarball in the existing SPEC, or does someone already do all this with an eye towards RHEL?
