    The .NET framework makes it easy to get information about various locales; the Win32 C++ APIs are a bit harder to figure out. Is there an equivalent function in Win32 to get the two-letter ISO language name given an integer locale ID? In C# I'd do: System.Globalization.CultureInfo ci = new System.Globalization.CultureInfo(1034); string iso = ci.TwoLetterISOLanguageName; // iso == "es" now.

  • Python vs. Java performance (runtime speed)

    Ignoring all the characteristics of each languages and focusing SOLELY on speed, which language is better performance-wise? You'd think this would be a rather simple question to answer, but I haven't found a decent one. I'm aware that some types of operations may be faster with python, and vice-versa, but I cannot find any detailed information on this. Can anyone shed some light on the performance differences?

    Currently I am migrating MSSQL to MYSQL.I am using the MySQL ODBC 3.51 driver to connect to mysql using odbc connectivity.I have telugu language charectors stored in the table.They are not showing properly while using the mysql odbc driver, but they are showing up properly while using the sqlserver odbc driver.     Why is the ( ) mandatory in the SQL statement select * from gifts INNER JOIN sentgifts using (giftID); ? The ( ) usually is for specifying grouping of something. But in this case, are we supposed to be able to use 2 or more field names... in the example above, it can be all clear that it is 1 field, is it just that the parser is not made to bypass the ( ) when it is all clear? (such as in the language Ruby).

    The JFileChooser don't provide support for my language, I'd translate strings defined in the file http://www.rgagnon.com/javadetails/JavaUIDefaults.txt with the UIManager.put(), but I'm not finding the popup strings ("view", "refresh" and "new folder" options when you right-click).     What open source (preferably gem-based) parser-generator options do I have in Ruby? I've used (flex&bison)|(lex&yacc) from C in the past, and I'm comfortable with BNF-style specifications. I've heard of treetop, but it looks a bit alien and verbose compared to yacc... Purpose: I want to convert my text markup language to a BNF and generate the parsing code.   • operator "new" returning a non-local heap pointer for only one class ?

    Language : C++ Platform : Windows Server 2003 I have an exe calling a DLL, in which when I allocate (new) the memory for class A (which is in DLL) it returns me a non-local heap pointer. I try to new other classes which are in DLL and "new" returns a valid heap pointer for them, its only Class A which is not being allocated properly. I am on windows and validating the heap by this function call : _CrtIsValidHeapPointer ( (const void *) pPtr ) I am seriously confused why this only happens with new-ing Class A and no other class ? (All Native Code)
