  • UINavigationBar multi-line title

    - by benasher44
Is there a straightforward way of overriding the titleView of the current navigation bar item in a navigation bar within a navigation controller? I've tried creating a new UIView and replacing the titleView property of topView with my own UIVIew with no success. Basically, I want a multi-line title for the navigation bar title. Any suggestions?

  • JavaBeans and DSLs

    - by Aaron Digulla
It's 2009 and we still all hold on the JavaBeans despite all their flaws, mostly because of the tooling support which we wrote in our own blood. But now we have method chaining and internal DSLs and some pressure to replace or extend JavaBeans with DSL classes. Has anyone an implementation that implements PropertyDescriptor for a DSL (where the getters and setter use the exact same name as the property) and a way to hook that into the Java RT so I don't need to create them all by myself?

  • Adding UIViewController.view to another view causes orientation problems

    - by Bob Vork
Short version: I'm alloc/init/retaining a new UIViewController in one UIViewControllers viewDidLoad method, adding the new View to self.view. This usually works, but it seems to mess up orientation change handling of my iPad app. Longer version: I'm building a fairly complex iPad application, involving a lot of views and viewcontrollers. After running into some difficulties adjusting to the device orientation, I made a simple XCode project to figure out what the problem is. Firstly, I have read the Apple Docs on this subject (a small document called "Why won't my UIViewController rotate with the device?"), and while I do believe it has something to do with one of the reasons listed there, I'm not really sure how to fix it. In my test project I have an appDelegate, a rootViewController, and a UISplitViewController with two custom viewControllers. I use a button on the rootViewController to switch to the splitViewController, and from there I can use a button to switch back to the rootViewController. So far everything is great, i.e. all views adjust to the device orientation. However, in the right viewController of the splitViewController, I use the viewDidLoad method to initialize some other viewControllers, and add their views to its own view: self.newViewController = [[UIViewController new] autorelease]; [newViewController.view setBackgroundColor:[UIColor yellowColor]]; [self.view addSubview:newViewController.view]; This is where things go wrong. Somehow, after adding this view, adjusting to device orientation is messy. On startup everything is fine, after I switch to the splitViewController everything is still fine, but as soon as I switch back to the rootViewController it's all over. I have tried (almost) everything regarding retaining and releasing the viewcontroller, but nothing seems to fix it. As you can see from the code above, I have declared the newViewController as a property, but the same happens if I don't. Shouldn't I be adding a ViewController's view to my own view at all? That would really mess up my project, as I have a lot of viewControllers doing all sorts of things. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated...

  • Software tools to automatically decrypt a file, whose encryption algorithm (and/or encryption keys)

    - by Andrew
I have an idea for encryption that I could program fairly easily to encrypt some local text file. Given that my approach is novel, and does not use any of the industry standard encryption techniques, would I be able to test the strength of my encryption using 'cracker' apps or suchlike? Or do all those tools rely on advanced knowledge of the encryption process (or intercepted 'keys'), meaning I'd have to build my own cracker for testing?

  • Python readability hints for a Java programmer

    - by Samuel Carrijo
I'm a java programmer, but now entering the "realm of python" for some stuff for which Python works better. I'm quite sure a good portion of my code would look weird for a Python programmer (e.g. using parenthesis on every if). I know each language has its own conventions and set of "habits". So, from a readability standpoint what are conventions and practices which is "the way to go" in Java, but are not really the "pythonic way" to do stuff?

  • The Collatz Sequence problem

    - by Gandalf StormCrow
    I'm trying to solve this problem, its not a homework question, its just code I'm submitting to uva.onlinejudge.org so I can learn better java trough examples. Here is the problem sample input : 3 100 34 100 75 250 27 2147483647 101 304 101 303 -1 -1 Here is simple output : Case 1: A = 3, limit = 100, number of terms = 8 Case 2: A = 34, limit = 100, number of terms = 14 Case 3: A = 75, limit = 250, number of terms = 3 Case 4: A = 27, limit = 2147483647, number of terms = 112 Case 5: A = 101, limit = 304, number of terms = 26 Case 6: A = 101, limit = 303, number of terms = 1 The thing is this has to execute within 3sec time interval otherwise your question won't be accepted as solution, here is with what I've come up so far, its working as it should just the execution time is not within 3 seconds, here is code : import java.util.Scanner; class Main { public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner stdin = new Scanner(System.in); int start; int limit; int terms; int a = 0; while (stdin.hasNext()) { start = stdin.nextInt(); limit = stdin.nextInt(); if (start > 0) { terms = getLength(start, limit); a++; } else { break; } System.out.println("Case "+a+": A = "+start+", limit = "+limit+", number of terms = "+terms); } } public static int getLength(int x, int y) { int length = 1; while (x != 1) { if (x <= y) { if ( x % 2 == 0) { x = x / 2; length++; }else{ x = x * 3 + 1; length++; } } else { length--; break; } } return length; } } And yes here is how its meant to be solved : An algorithm given by Lothar Collatz produces sequences of integers, and is described as follows: Step 1: Choose an arbitrary positive integer A as the first item in the sequence. Step 2: If A = 1 then stop. Step 3: If A is even, then replace A by A / 2 and go to step 2. Step 4: If A is odd, then replace A by 3 * A + 1 and go to step 2. And yes my question is how can I make it work inside 3 seconds time interval?

  • Constructor overloading in Java - best practice

    - by errr
There are a few topics similar to this, but I couldn't find one with a sufficient answer. I would like to know what is the best practice for constructor overloading in Java. I already have my own thoughts on the subject, but I'd like to hear more advice. I'm referring to both constructor overloading in a simple class and constructor overloading while inheriting an already overloaded class (meaning the base class has overloaded constructors). Thanks :)

  • Ruby DSL experiences ?

    - by LB
Hi, I don't know anything in Ruby, but i'm pretty interested in DSLs. And DSL seems to be a buzz word for you community. Do you actually implement DSLs in Ruby for your own purposes ? If so, how complex and how dedicated are they ? i've seen this question here, but i'm more interested in your everyday experience. thanks.

  • Image upload and jCrop and codeigniter

    - by sea_1987
Hi There, I am trying to build a system that allows a user to select an image from their own computer, and crop it using the jCrop tool from jQuery. My question is can I show the image the user has selected from their system without uploading it to a system, I dont really want to do two uploads, unless I can do the first upload silently? Any help would be great. Thank you.

Hi, I want to detect if a window form is open and if it is then I would like to bring it in front rather than opening it again. • How does SimpleWorkerRequest associate MIME types with extensions?

    - by Justin Dearing
I was serving html referencing svg files in Cassini, and having problems since the mime type was not being sent properly. I ended up writing my own port of Cassini that set the extension based on mime type. After a good night of sleep I realized that there might be some sort of registry key or config file where I can configure custom mime types for SimpleWorkerRequest, the .NET class that serves content through Casinni. However, I don't know what that is.

  • Filter on exception text in elmah

    - by Uwe
Is there a way to filter exceptions in elma using the exception message? Examples: "System.Web.HttpException: Request timed out." I don't want to filter out all HttpException, but only the timed-out requests. "System.Web.HttpException: Maximum request length exceeded." What I don't want to do is write own code for that. So is it possible to do this with the buildin-web.config configuration? Thank you!

  • MediaWiki styling for iPhone

    - by Brian Ashe
When you visit en.wikipedia.org with an iPhone you are forwarded to en.m.wikipedia.org which is formatted beautifully for the device. I have MediaWiki on my own server and I'd love to have this formatting available when I visit my site with my iPhone. Is there an easy way to enable this? I've gotten as far as www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgHandheldForIPhone and http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MobileSkin but nothing is jumping out at me.

  • RCov with RSpec-2

    - by JoshReedSchramm
I'm working with a bit of a bleeding edge rails app. Rails 3, RSpec 2, Rspec-Rails2. It seems as if RSpec2 doesn't include the spec:rcov rake task that RSpec 1 has. (at least it isn't there yet) Has anyone had any luck running rcov with rspec 2, or writing their own rake task to make this work?

  • SVN naming convention: repository, branches, tags

    - by LookitsPuck
Hey all! Just curious what your naming conventions are for the following: Repository name Branches Tags Right now, we're employing the following standards with SVN, but would like to improve on it: Each project has its own repository Each repository has a set of directories: tags, branches, trunk Tags are immutable copies of the the tree (release, beta, rc, etc.) Branches are typically feature branches Trunk is ongoing development (quick additions, bug fixes, etc.) Now, with that said, I'm curious how everyone is not only handling the naming of their repositories, but also their tags and branches. For example, do you employ a camel case structure for the project name? So, if your project is something like Backyard Baseball for Youngins, how do you handle that? backyardBaseballForYoungins backyard_baseball_for_youngins BackyardBaseballForYoungins backyardbaseballforyoungins That seems rather trivial, but it's a question. If you're going with the feature branch paradigm, how do you name your feature branches? After the feature itself in plain English? Some sort of versioning scheme? I.e. say you want to add functionality to the Backyard Baseball app that allows users to add their own statistics. What would you call your branch? {repoName}/branches/user-add-statistics {repoName}/branches/userAddStatistics {repoName}/branches/user_add_statistics etc. Or: {repoName}/branches/1.1.0.1 If you go the version route, how do you correlate the version numbers? It seems that feature branches wouldn't benefit much from a versioning schema, being that 1 developer could be working on the "user add statistics" functionality, and another developer could be working on the "admin add statistics" functionality. How are these do branch versions named? Are they better off being: {repoName}/branches/1.1.0.1 - user add statistics {repoName}/branches/1.1.0.2 - admin add statistics And once they're merged into the trunk, the trunk might increment appropriately? Tags seem like they'd benefit the most from version numbers. With that being said, how are you correlating the versions for your project (whether it be trunk, branch, tag, etc.) with SVN? I.e. how do you, as the developer, know that 1.1.1 has admin add statistics, and user add statistics functionality? How are these descriptive and linked? It'd make sense for tags to have release notes in each tag since they're immutable. But, yeah, what are your SVN policies going forward?

  • Queryable and BindingSource item add .net

    - by Alexander
Hello! I wrote my own simple Queryable provider which retrieves data from a database. Now I need to bind this data to a BindingSource and when the new item is added to BindingSource some event or method must be called for handling the add operation. I have tried to implement IBingingList on a List class which is returned when the query is completed, but the AddNew method is not called when the item is added? How can I implement this scenario?
