  I tried reading mailing lists in gnus in emacs, but emacs stops responding with the slow nntp servers downloads. nabble, gmane etc are also kind of slow. So I thought about download the gzipped archives available from most mailing lists. here are some nice instructions to import these archives into thunderbird. Is there a similar streamlined way to read the unziped archives in emacs, or other software ?

  Hello I'm checking the ftp settings a client has sent me. I can create, edit and upload/download .html files fine. However I'm finding that .php files aren't brows-able, unless I don't use php tags. I know very little about the clients server at this point, but I have checked for a .htaccess file and not found one. What else can I do to determine if php is supported? This seems to be resolved.

• Can the users can apply Windows update without local administrator rights?

  My users are running on windows XP 32bit. normally WSUS automatically download and notify them to select which update want to install in the past they were in local administrator rights,now I reduce them to user rights so now they can't see the yellow notification said updated are available. Is there a way to give users permission to see the yellow notification and they can select updates by hand without local admin rights or power users? Any advice would be appreciated Thanks

  We are using the basic Verizon router but it sucks so we're looking for a new one that allows us to limit users and our hadoop cluster to certain limits. Our problem is one person can start downloading something and kill the network and every hour we download logs into our cluster but it floods the network unless we rate limit it. Ideally we want to be able to say: total: 35 mbps Hadoop Cluster (15 mbps) Phones (1 mbps) Office(25 people) (19mbps but no one machine can have more than 5mbps)

  If a Windows server (2k3/2k8) is set to "download but not install" updates, is there a way to check from the command line.. perhaps a log file or something I can check with powershell, to see if there are any updates actually waiting to be installed? I'm trying to prevent having to manually log on to each server to check, even though they want the "trigger" pulled manually.   If you try to install the Camera Codec pack for Windows 7 on Windows 8, you get an error: This version of the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack is not compatible with Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. You can get the codec pack through Windows Update on Windows 8. However, I cannot see anywhere on Windows update that would suggest I can download this, even as an optional update? Is it just the case that it is not yet live, as everything filters through the RTM process, or is it hidden away as something else?

  On MacOS (10.8.5 if that matters) I'm trying to disable off ipv6 via networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi. Nevertheless, when I'm trying to wget a specific files URL resolves to ipv6 address and download fails. I just wonder what I am missing in order not to feel as stupid as I currently feel. ifconfig shows that some of interfaces have inet6 enabled, but I just don't know whether this is relevant at all. networksetup -listallnetworkservices does not show anything extraordinary I've forgot about.

• Hosted file is downloaded damaged by IE

  I have a ZIP file hosted via Apache with Akamai as CDN, the problem is when trying to download it with IE (and just IE) it is damaged and I'm unable to open it. Since the problem occurs in other computers in different locations I've discarded network settings (firewall, proxy, etc). I don't even know where start to look? What would be a possible cause for this to happen? UPDATE I'm trying to solve the problem in the server (or CDN), I've verified it's not a client error

  We just recently installed and have been using SharePoint 2010 and have run into a bit of a problem opening Excel spreadsheets with the xlsx extension. We are able to upload a spreadsheet with the xlsx extension, however, when we attempt to download the same spreadsheet we are getting the following error: Excel An error has occured. Please try again. We can open xls files fine as well as docx and pptx files.
