• iPhone Landscape FAQ and Solutions

  There has been a lot of confusion and a set of corresponding set of questions here on SO how iPhone applications with proper handling for Landscape/Portrait mode autorotation can be implemented. It is especially difficult to implement such an application when starting in landscape mode is desired. The most common observed effect are scrambled layouts and areas of the screen where touches are no longer recognized. A simple search for questions tagged iphone and landscape reveals these issues, which occur under certain scenarios: Landscape only iPhone app with multiple nibs: App started in Landscape mode, view from first nib is rendered fine, everything view loaded from a different nib is not displayed correctly. Iphone Landscape mode switching to Portraite mode on loading new controller: Self explanatory iPhone: In landscape-only, after first addSubview, UITableViewController doesn’t rotate properly: Same issue as above. iPhone Landscape-Only Utility-Template Application: Layout errors, controller does not seem to recognize the view should be rotated but displays a clipped portrait view in landscape mode, causing half of the screen to stay blank. presentModalViewController in landscape after portrait viewController: Modal views are not correctly rendered either. A set of different solutions have been presented, some of them including completely custom animation via CoreGraphics, while others build on the observation that the first view controller loaded from the main nib is always displayed correct. I have spent a significant amount of time investigating this issue and finally found a solution that is not only a partial solution but should work under all these circumstances. It is my intend with this CW post to provide sort of a FAQ for others having issues with UIViewControllers in Landscape mode. Please provide feedback and help improve the quality of this Post by incorporating any related observations. Feel free to edit and post other/better answers if you know of any.

• Mac OS X software always order files alphabetically rather than by type.

  I have noticed many Mac applications sort the files alphabetically rather than by type. A good example would be Coda by panic.com. The files in the file menu are organized alphabetically. I requested for them to add the feature to organize files by type, and they've said that it's a Finder thing. So I looked at other applications to see if they were organizing by type. I noticed Dreamweaver CS4 had this same problem and now including Dreamweaver CS5. There has to be something in the Mac that does this and that I can modify. I played with Spotlight and it now displays its files by type (thinking that's what I can do) but it didn't take effect in other applications. What library are these applications using to display a file menu for their files? here is an example-- file menu layout of coda by panic.com. (i couldnt post another link because it wouldnt let me). can you see how everything is organised alphabetically rather than by folder? i just want the file menu to show all folders first then all the files. 1) http://www.iaddesign.com/coda.png there must be a way to modify mac to let me to do this.

  Hi, i'm quite new to django and trying to add a shopping cart to a simple webshop. What I need is a simple cart that can be filled and presents its content, which is then sent to the vendor via email. So Satchmo might be too big for this task. Therefore i chose django-cart (http://code.google.com/p/django-cart/) which causes some problems now. 1. Is django-cart the right thing? Or are there any better approaches to this task? 2. As I am a beginner even django-cart makes me struggle. I used the view and the template of the django-cart-website, but writing a form that can be used to add products to the cart took me hours. I probably need help in understanding the general layout of a shopping cart and its integration into a website. 3. Two more specific questions: Is it possible to dynamically populate a formfield in a template (e.g. with {{ object.id }})? Is django-cart able to change (update) the contents of a cart? • SQL database problems with addressbook table design

  Hello! I am writing a addressbook module for my software right now. I have the database set up so far that it supports a very flexible address-book configuration. I can create n-entries for every type I want. Type means here data like 'email', 'address', 'telephone' etc. I have a table named 'contact_profiles'. This only has two columns: id Primary key date_created DATETIME And then there is a table called contact_attributes. This one is a little more complex: id PK #profile (Foreign key to contact_profiles.id) type VARCHAR describing the type of the entry (name, email, phone, fax, website, ...) I should probably change this to a SET later. value Text (containing the value for the attribute). I can now link to these profiles, for example from my user's table. But from here I run into problems. At the moment I would have to create a JOIN for each value that I want to retrieve. Is there a possibility to somehow create a View, that gives me a result with the type's as columns? So right now I would get something like #profile type value 1 email [email protected] 1 name Sebastian Hoitz 1 website domain.tld But it would be nice to get a result like this: #profile email name website 1 [email protected] Sebastian Hoitz domain.tld The reason I do not want to create the table layout like this initially is, that there might always be things to add and I want to be able to have multiple attributes of the same type. So do you know if there is any possibility to convert this dynamically? If you need a better description please let me know. Thank you!

• Rails: Ajax: Changes Onload

  Hi. I have a web layout of a for that looks something like this <html> <head> </head> <body> <div id="posts"> <div id="post1" class="post" > <!--stuff 1--> </div> <div id="post2" class="post" > <!--stuff 1--> </div> <!-- 96 more posts --> <div id="post99" class="post" > <!--stuff 1--> </div> </div> </body> </html> I would like to be able to load and render the page with a blank , and then have a function called when the page is loaded which goes in and load up the posts and updates the page dynamically. In Rails, I tried using "link_to_remote" to update with all of the elements. I also tweaked the posts controller to render the collection of posts if it was an ajax request (request.xhr?). It worked fine and very fast. However the update of the blank div is triggered by clicking the link. I would like the same action to happen when the page is loaded so that I don't have to put in a link. Is there a Rails Ajax helper or RJS function or something in Rails that I could use to trigger the loading of the "posts" after the page has loaded and rendered (without the posts)? (If putsch comes to shove, I will just copy the generated JS code from the link_to_remote call and have it called from the onload handler on the body).

• ASP.Net ListView and event handling.

  I have an .ascx which contains a listview. Let's call it the parent. Within its ItemTemplate I reference a second .ascx which is basically another listview, let's call it the child. On the parent, the child control is wrapped in a placeholder tag. I use this place holder tag to show and hide the child. Psuedo code: The child listview has a 'close' button in its Layout Template. Let's call it "btnClose" with an onClick event of "btnClose_Click". I want to use this button to set the visibility of the containing placeholder. I'm trying to avoid doing something like using PlaceHolder plhChild = (PlaceHolder)childListCtl.NamingContainer since I can't guarantee every instance of the child .ascx will be contained within a placeholder. I tried creating an event in the child that could be subscribed to. Psuedo code: public delegate CloseButtonHandler(); public event CloseButtonHandler CloseButtonEvent; And in the actual btnClose_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) event I have: if (CloseButtonEvent != null) CloseButtonEvent(); My problem is that the delegate CloseButtonEvent is always null. I've tried assigning the delegate in the listview's OnDatabound event of the parent and on the click event, to set the plhChild.visible = true, and I've stepped through the code and know the delegate instantiation works in both place, but again, when it gets to the btnClose_Click event on the child, the delegate is null. Any help would be appreciated. Neil

• Using embedded standard HTML forms with ASP.NET

  I have a standard aspx page with which I need to add another standard HTML form into and have it submit to another location (external site), however whenever I press the submit button the page seems to do a post back rather than using the sub-forms action url. A mock up of what the form relationships is below. • Getting message in android app: Binary XML file line #2: You must supply a layout_width attribute.

  I'm trying to use a ListView inside of a RelativeLayout but when I run my app I get a runtimeexception with the message: Binary XML file line #2: You must supply a layout_width attribute. I tried putting layout_width attributes in every conceivable place in the xml resource files but so far no luck. • Find TableLeyout in a thread (Because of the ProgressDialog)

  Hi all, On my activity, im getting some big data from web, and while getting this data i want to show the user a ProgressDialog with spinning wheel. That i can do only with putting this code into a thread, right ? the problem is that after im getting this data i need to insert it into my tableLayout as TableRows and it seems impossible to access the TableLayout from the thread. What can i do to show this progress dialog and to be able access the table layout from the thread ?? Is there any event that happens on the end of the thread ? • OsmDroid show blank screen with blocks

  Am trying to use OsmDroid with MapQuest maps downloaded from Mobile Atlas Creator. I followed all the instructions to generate the map tiles, upload them to the SDcard etc but when I run this on the device I get a screen with a bunch of empty boxes... • Which parts of Sharepoint do I need to understand to build a publicly facing website?

  I am building a publicly facing website that does the following. Users log in. And then view a list of their customers. They click on a customer to view their past purchases, order them, change them etc. This is not a shopping site by the way. It is a simple look up tool. Note that none of the data accessed by the website is in anything other than a SQL database - no office documents. Also, the login does not use users Windows credentials on a VPN or something like that. Typically I would build this using a standard ASP.NET MVC website. However the client says they want to use Sharepoint. As I understand it, Sharepoint is used for workflow and websites that are collaboration tools such as the components you can see here http://www.sharepointhosting.com/sharepoint-features.html Here are my questions: Would I be right in saying that WSS is completely inappropriate for this task as it comes with an overhead that provides no benefits? If I had to use it, would I need WSS or MOSS? If I had to use it, would I be right in saying the site would consist of : List item a) Web Parts b) And a custom site layout. How do I create one of these?

• Why does my Workflow Service (4.0) variable go null in a DoWhile Activity?

  I have a WF service that I'm trying to setup receive activities to "Subscribe" and "Unsubscribe". I'm using This WF Durable Duplex Tutorial as a basis because my service performs callbacks to clients. Basically, think of it as a chat service. I can make client calls to the two receive activities just fine. What happens is the callback address of the client is passed in to Subscribe() on the service. The address is stored as a variable in the WF service and everything looks like it would work as to be expected. When a client calls Unsubscribe(), my watch I have set on the address var during debugging shows it as null. So what gives? Here's the basic setup of my WF service layout... Everything is enveloped in a DoWhile activity. Inside of that is a Pick activity and two Pick branches. The first branch is for subscribing activities. It has a receive-sendreply activity that assigns the string passed by the client to the WF address var. The second branch handles unsubscribing. The trigger is the Request activity and the client address is again passed in. From there it goes into a sequence, starting with an If. It checks to see if the unsubscribeAddress equals the address already subscribed. If it does, then it sets the address to String.Empty and sends a success message back to the client. Why would a variable that's scoped to the enveloping DoWhile activity be implicitly assigned to null? I'm trying to get this to work so I can implement multiple client subscribers from there and work on triggers that invoke callbacks to multiple clients. CONCAT EDIT: I set a breakpoint at the DoWhile level and my var is null once Unsubscribe() is called. When Subscribe() is invoked, the watch shows a value in the var all the way through. Until I Unsubscribe() with a client. Should I be using a While Activity instead?

  Hello, I am using on the client C# where I am converting double values to byte array. I am using java on the server and I am using writeDouble and readDouble to convert double values to byte arrays. The problem is the double values from java at the end are not the double values at the begin giving to c# writeDouble in Java Converts the double argument to a long using the doubleToLongBits method , and then writes that long value to the underlying output stream as an 8-byte quantity, high byte first. DoubleToLongBits Returns a representation of the specified floating-point value according to the IEEE 754 floating-point "double format" bit layout. • Flex 3 - Scroll bar issue

  Im currently learning Flex, and Im having the hardest time getting scroll bars to work. In short Im pretty much just making a giant form for users to fill out, contained within a viewstack component, the user will type up information in one view, and it will be displayed in the other. But right now in the first canvas i have components that run of the screen and flex doesnt seem to automate a scroll bar, so i added in 'verticalScrollPolicy="on"' to my canvas, now while it gives me a scroll bar, it gives me an empty scroll bar, I still cannot move it up or down, meaning components are still trapped off the bottom of my screen. Im I missing something amazingly simple? • Bibliography behaves strange in lyx.

  Hi! I have created a Bibliography section in my document written in lyx. It uses a book layout. For some reason it did start over again when I added some more entries. The new entries was made some time later than the first ones. I just went down to key-27 and hit enter. Then it started on key-1 again. Does anyone know why it behaves like this? • Problems with Acitivity LifeCycle with VideoView playback.

  Hi all i've ran into another problems with VideoView. Then video is playing, and i put device asleep, using hard button, onPause is called. But it followed by 03-17 11:26:33.779: WARN/ActivityManager(884): Activity pause timeout for HistoryRecord{4359f620 com.package/com.package.VideoViewActivity} And then i have onStart/onResume again and Video starts playing. • JEditorPanes, Preferred Size, and printing HTML

  I'm trying to print some HTML directly, without displaying anything to the user. It works currently (somewhat) using a custom JEditorPane that implements Printable. The problem I'm having is that it always wants to use a preferred size of 582px x 560px. If I manually change the size using something like setSize(x,y) it will change the size of the pane, put the content renders at preferred size, not actual size (so it's still 582x560). I can scale it up to fit the page, but it's basically just an enlarged version where the images are all pixelated and the layout is wrong (based on the smaller window size). Inside the print method of my Printable JEditorPane I used this to try and get the size: javax.swing.JWindow wnd = new javax.swing.JWindow(); wnd.setContentPane(this); wnd.setSize(1024,1584); wnd.pack(); Dimension d = wnd.getPreferredSize(); With or without that setSize and/or pack methods on the JWindow the preferred size always comes back as 582x560. I do have control over the html that I'm trying to print but I'd rather not have to rewrite all of that to scale it down so it will print correctly at full size (when scaled up).
