• AsyncTask, RejectedExecutionException and Task Limit

  I am fetching lots of thumbnails from a remote server and displaying them in a grid view, using AsyncTask. The problem is, my grid view displays 20 thumbnails at a time, so that creates 20 AsyncTasks and starts 20 executes, one per thumbnail. I get RejectedExecution exception in my code. I recall reading somewhere that there is a limit to number of tasks that AsyncTask can have in its queue at a time, i might be hitting that. Was this bar lifted? Is there a way to increase this limit? Is it safe to just ignore this exception?(by having an empty catch(RejectedException e){} block?) I am running this code on Android 1.6 emulator and the API level in my code(minSDKVersion is 3). [EDIT: Added SDK and API level info]

• Why would a CSV attachment appear as text in the body?

  Hi all I've just implemented some code that emails a bunch of our clients with a CSV file attachment. Some (not many) have got back to us complaining that they don't get an attachment at all - just the CSV text inside the body of the email. Most however are fine. I suspect that it's different mail clients that are treating the attachment differently but I don't have enough info yet to be sure. I'm using .NET's MailMessage class with the Attachment.CreateAttachmentFromString() method. The MIME type I'm specifying for the attachment is text/csv. Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on? Ta muchly David

• How does a debug build make reverse engineering easy?

  Some answer here stated that debug info would make it easier to reverse engineer the software. When I use Visual C++ and distribute an executable with debugging information but without other files (.pdb), will it contain any interesting things? I looked to the executable with a hex editor and found nothing like symbol names, for now I assume the .exe file just links to information in the .pdb files, right? Do you know whether it contains variable names? function/member names? line numbers? anything interesting? Thanks!

  Hello again, I've run into a problem with an application I'm developing in C#/.NET. A problem I can't trace down because it causes my system to crash with a BSOD.   I'd like to use SSL for the post action on the login page of my MVC 1.0 app. I've seen some articles related to the [RequireSSL] attribute in ASP.NET MVC Futures. However, since this works using a redirect, I assume it's not an option (can't redirect a POST, correct?). Ultimately, my goal is to get the Html.BeginForm method to render "https://..." as the form's action so that I can secure the information being posted (login info). How have others handled this?

• C# Class Library wont register for COM

  Hello All, I am trying to gain access to a .NET class library in Microsoft Excel. To do this I know that the .NET class library must be registered with COM. So I tried going to my Assembly Info and Setting COM Visible to true. Then on the build tab I set Register for COM Interop for true also. I checked the AssemblyInfo.cs file and it does contain [assembly: ComVisible(true)]. But for some reason when I try to add a reference to the Class Lib in Excel the namespace does not show up in the list. I made a quick test Class library with nothing in it and did the same thing (set COM Vis = true , and Register For COM Interop = true) and that one does show up on the list of available references. I can't figure out what the difference is between the two classes. I am not sure if my class is actually being registered for COM interop or not. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this???

• How to hook Pivotal Tracker to Redmine?

  Our company is currently using Redmine, it's great for general tasks / troubleshooting (operation) but for development, I would like to adopt a more agile tool... and I found it in pivotaltracker. I googled but couldn't find any info., so that gave me a good excuse to try StackOverflow. Has anyone done it? I'm thinking of using PivotalTracker as the main tool, and all activities will be posted back to redmine for archiving and reporting. (Redmine isn't particularly strong at that either, but it does have a budget plugin and I can query the database directly for my custom reports.) Thanks.

• Problem with the scrollbar of a UIWebView

  Hi there! Im using a UIWebView to access a website, when i rotate the phone (landscape) the UIWebView is properly resized and the scrollbar are on the right place (on the right edge...) but when i acess any of input fields to fill the information required and exit it the UIWebView scrollbar jumps to the middle of screen (looks like it get back to 320, the width of the screen on portrait). Some useful info, this program was created using IB, have lots of outlets, im thinking about in do (redo) everything programmatically cause i was not the author of the first version... If anyone have seen this before plz let me know.. Thanks in advance!

  In Germany, mobile carriers often provide a simple way to configure your mobile phone for MMS and GPRS: After keying in your phone number and device model on the carrier's website, you get a "configuration sms" sent to you. I'm trying to understand how that works from a technical standpoint. I have scanned through 3GPP TS 03.40 (http://www.3gpp.org/ftp/Specs/html-info/0340.htm), but haven't been able to find much. Also, the fact that one has to provide the phone model indicates that it is a provider specific thing and not standardized? Does anyone have any pointers for me? Also I'd be interested how the "internet-enabling" process looks like in other countries. Anyone care to share?

• Is it possible to use best_in_place with typeahead from twitter bootstrap?

  Basically, I am using best_in_place in my rails webapp to let users edit their profile info in place. The thing is, I would like users to be presented with a typeahead form for certain entries.. Here's what I'm working with: <p>College/University: <input type="text" class="span3" style="margin: 0 auto;" data-provide="typeahead" data-items="8" data-source='["University of Pennsylvania","Harvard","Yale","Princeton","Cornell","Brown","Columbia","Dartmouth"]'></p> This gives me a working form box with typeahead. However, I want to be able to wrap this in best_in_place with something like <%= best_in_place @student, :education %> so that users only see the typeahead form when they click on the text, and upon clicking away from the box or hitting enter the selection is stored in the database. Is there a reasonably easy way to do this?

But in the (TwitterCustomObject*)createPostFromArray:(NSArray*)postArray method all values are coming up as null.I thought it got added with this line of code in the twitterAPIcall method [twitterObjects addObject:twitterInfo];?

• Graphviz DOT arrange Nodes in circles, layout too "compact"

  I'm halfway there please see the edit OK here's my problem, I'm generating a graph of a python module, including all the files with their functions/methods/classes. I want to arrange it so, that nodes gather in circles around their parent nodes, currently everything is on one gargantuan horizontal row, which makes the thing 50k pixels wide and also let's the svg converter fail(only renders about the half of the graph). I went trough the docs(http://www.graphviz.org/doc/info/attrs.html) but couldn't find anything that seems to do the trick. So the question is: Is there a simple way to do this or do I have to layout the whole thing by myself? :/ EDIT: Thanks to Andrews comment I've got the right layout, the only problem now is that it's a bit to "compact"... so the question now is, how to fix this?

Did find: /Users/greg/node_modules/daemon/lib/daemon.v0.8.8.node: mach-o, but wrong architecture at Object.Module._extensions..node (module.js:485:11) at Module.load (module.js:356:32) at Function.Module._load (module.js:312:12) at Module.require (module.js:362:17) at require (module.js:378:17) at Object.<anonymous> (/Users/greg/node_modules/daemon/lib/daemon.js:12:11) at Module._compile (module.js:449:26) at Object.Module._extensions..js (module.js:467:10) at Module.load (module.js:356:32) at Function.Module._load (module.js:312:12) The key part is: "wrong architecture" If I run: lipo -info /Users/greg/node_modules/daemon/lib/daemon.v0.8.8.node It returns: Non-fat file: /Users/greg/node_modules/daemon/lib/daemon.v0.8.8.node is architecture: i386 I'm guessing a x64 version is requried. How do I get and install the 64 bit version of this lib?

  Hi gurus I have trouble with binding Boolean property in association classes. Property is set to true if I check checkbox (good), but is null if checbox is not checked. I know the problem with HTML checkbox. • Append XML string block WITH NAMESPACE REF to existing XmlDocument in .NET

  I have an xml document (XmlDocument) which looks like this... <stuff xmlns:n="hhtp://tempuri.com/"> </stuff> ... and a "fragment" (string) which looks like this <things> <thing n:type="info"> </thing> </things> I want to "inject" the fragment into the main document. How? (HINT: You can't use XmlDocumentFragment because the namespace 'n' isn't declared in the fragment, and the object model complains about this - throwing an 'unknown namespace' error even though the resultant document will be perfectly valid.)

• Starting to make progress Was [MediaRecorder prepare() causes segfault]

  Folks, I have a situation where my MediaRecorder instance causes a segfault. I'm working with a HTC Hero, Android 1.5+APIs. I've tried all variations, including 3gpp and H.263 and reducing the video resolution to 320x240. What am I missing? The state machine causes 4 MediaPlayer beeps and then turns on the video camera. Here's the pertinent source: UPDATE: ADDING SURFACE CREATE INFO I have rebooted the device based on previous answer to similar question. UPDATE 2: I seem to be following the MediaRecorder state machine perfectly, and if I trap out the MR code, the blank surface displays perfectly and everything else functions perfectly. I can record videos manually and play back via MediaPlayer in my code, so there should be nothing wrong with the underlying code. I've copied sample code on the surface and surfaceHolder code. I've looked at the MR instance in the Debug perspective in Eclipse and see that all (known) variables seem to be instantiated correctly. The setter calls are all now implemented in the exaxct order specced in the state diagram. UPDATE 3: I've tried all permission combinations: CAMERA + RECORD_AUDIO+RECORD_VIDEO, CAMERA only, RECORD_AUDIO+RECORD_VIDEO This is driving me bats! :))) UPDATE 4: starting to work... but with puzzling results. Based on info in bug #5050, I spaced everything out. I have now gotten the recorder to actually save a snippet of video (a whole 2160 bytes!), and I did it by spacing the view visibility, prepare() and start() w.a.a.a.a.a.y out (like several hundred milliseconds for each step). I think what happens is that either bringing the surface VISIBLE has delayed processing or else the start() steps on the prepare() operation before it is complete. What is now happening, however, is that my simple timer tickdown counter is getting clobbered. Is it now that the preview and save operations are causing my main process thread to become unavailable? I'm recording only 10fps at 176x144. Referencing the above code, I've added a timer tickdown after setPreviewDisplay(), prepare() and start(). • validates_associated in production

  Hi all. Imagine a simple model. class Service belongs_to :user validates_associated :user accepts_nested_attributes_for :user end Nothing special right? The validations on the associated User model trigger correctly in development mode. But don't do anything in production. I've added a validates_on_presence :user just like the docs say. This triggers when there's no User associated with the Service, but fill in one thing on the User model and nothing happens! It's driving me up the walls. Am I overlooking something? • WPF Application Hang

  Hi, I'm using Windows 7 Professional (x64) and having installed .NET 4.0 RTM on my machine. Since 2 days I'm noticing that every WPF application that I'm trying to run hangs and becomes non responsive (a not responding text is appended to it's title bar) and it's painted white. There is no info regarding any exception, no error message. Nothing. Even the Event Log shows that there was "application hang" event (code 1002) and nothing more. This problem is for everything that is written in WPF, even for products like NHibernate Profiler and other stuff that I was using on a regular basis without any issues. Tried to reinstall .NET 4.0 and nothing changed. Any ideas why this might be happening?

• applet does not load

  We have a legacy program that was ported from Java 1.3 to Java 1.5. This application involves applets which worked fine before. After porting however, the applet would not load. However there are no errors or exceptions. The app would just try to load it forever. We tried to run it with Java 1.6 and poof! No problems whatsoever. Isn't Java 6 backwards compatible? • Trying to access App.config file for mail settings but fails to work.

  Hello we have a Business Logic Layer which has an Email Services Class. In this class we have a method which will create an email(This part works and compiles fine). However when we try to access the app config file in order to test the method we get an error saying - Can't retrieve the app config mail settings and says all values are null when they are not. • Cannot add table to context - LINQ-To-SQL

  Hey, I'd be happy to give you more info if you need, just ask for it. I have in my database a table of articles, a table of tags and a link table. The article table has values like Id, Subject etc etc, the tags only have Id and Tag. The link has TagId and ArticleId. The problem is that when I drag drop the link-table nothing happens! This all worked before I decided to rename my column in the tables from "ID" to "Id" to correct spelling. Thanks in advance!

• Exceptions using CruiseControl.NET

  I recently updated to CC.NET 1.5 and I'm now getting some strange exceptions. On one project I get: - ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.CruiseControlException: Source control operation failed: svn: Can't create a character converter from native encoding to 'UTF-8' This happens when CC is checking a subversion repository for any mods. If I run the actual command line CC says is failing it works and returns an empty XML (there are no mods). Some other projects also fail to check mods with another "Source control operation failed" exception but no further info. Again the command is an "svn log" which when run from command line works ok. I'm using subversion 1.4.5 client side and my source repository exists on a separate box than my build server. Anyone got any ideas?
