• deploy git project and permission issue

  I have project hosted with gitolite on my own server, and I would like to deploy the whole project from gitolite bare repository to apache accessible place, by post-receive hook. I have next hook content echo "starting deploy..." WWW_ROOT="/var/www_virt.hosting/domain_name/htdocs/" GIT_WORK_TREE=$WWW_ROOT git checkout -f exec chmod -R 750 $WWW_ROOT exec chown -R www-data:www-data $WWW_ROOT echo "finished" hook can't be finished without any error message. chmod: changing permissions of `/var/www_virt.hosting/domain_name/file_name': Operation not permitted means that git has no enough right to make it. The git source path is /var/lib/gitolite/project.git/, which is owned by gitolite:gitolite And with this permissions redmine (been working under www-data user) can't achieve git repository to fetch all changes The whole project should be placed here: /var/www_virt.hosting/domain_name/htdocs/, which is owned by www-data:www-data. What changes I should do, to work properly post-receive hook in git, and redmine with repository ? what I did, is: # id www-data uid=33(www-data) gid=33(www-data) groups=33(www-data),119(gitolite) # id gitolite uid=110(gitolite) gid=119(gitolite) groups=119(gitolite),33(www-data) does not helped. I want to have no any problem to work apache (to view project), redmine to read source files for project (under git) and git (doing deploy to www-data accessible path) what should I do ?

• Why does the wireless network icon have a red X over it when everything seems to work?

  I booted my almost brand new laptop running Windows 7 this morning and noticed a red X through the wireless networking icon in the system tray. At first I thought something was wrong, but clicking on it shows a good connection to my wireless network. I had no problem getting here to post this question. I'm very new to Windows 7 so I have no idea how to troubleshoot this myself. Is there an actual problem here? Can I fix the icon so it doesn't falsely display an error (I assume that's what the red X means)? Here's what I know: I can get here to post this question. There's at least one unsecured network available that I'm not connected to. I can see a bunch of wireless networks, presumably from my neighbors' houses. There are no other computers turned on in my house right now. The device manager shows no problems with any devices. I can ping my default gateway, DNS, and yahoo.com with no problem.

• Computer not finding hard drives on boot -sometimes-

  Computer specs: Mobo: Gigabyte ultradurable 3 - GA-970A-UD3 Processor: First gen I7 3.2GHZ Ram: 8GB Kingston DDR3 1066 Video Card: EVGA NVidia GTX 460 1GB Hard Drive: 500MB 7200rpm x2 (can't remember brand, sorry I'm at work.) Last week my developer preview for Windows 8 ran out so I put my copy of windows 7 back on the computer. The computer at that point started suffering from frequent freezing and crashing. When I rebooted the computer sometimes it wouldn't find the system HD at all. When I looked at the post screen it seemed to show that it wasn't finding either of the HDs. Then yesterday when turning on the computer I just got GRUB as a message (not a GRUB prompt, just GRUB) I haven't had a dual boot of Linux for at least a year. I loaded windows 7 recovery console from the disk and ran: bootrec /fixboot bootrec /fixmbr Which did not help. At that point I just installed Ubuntu 13.04 over the windows 7 install and still received the GRUB post. I went into the BIOS and switched the Hard Drive priorities and then it loaded into Ubuntu fine. For several days everything was just hunky dory until I installed the Ubuntu version of Steam, install Portal and tried to run it. At that point the computer froze and after hard rebooting couldn't find the hard disks again. Then after restarting the system it loaded up fine again and no issues since. (I have not tried to launch portal again). My next thought is to remove the system hard drive and try to use the secondary as the master to see if the primary HD is bad. I'm sorry if this has been confusing, I'll answer any questions I can. Any thoughts?

• Need help ttoubleshooting PC

  I have had problems since my dog pee'd on my computer. Problem: loads windows fine, at random intervals from 5 minutes to 30 minutes it restarts itself. There is nothing in the event log such as errors, no BSOD, just cold restart. after rstarting - sometimes- it POST's and restarts itself at the end of POST. It will do this many times and then finally load windows. The cycle then begins again, it will restart eventually. What i have done: I thought it was HDD at first, since this is the only part of the coputer which actually got wet with any fluid ( the case is off the PC and the dog pee'd down the front where the HDD is located). Seatool, the seagate HDD tool, found errors when I ran it inside windows, so I ran it in DOS mode from bootable USB and ran it. It found the same number of errors and fixed them all. I ran the scan again and it says "Good". I loaded windows and ran the scan and it also said "Good there. So the HDD apears to be fine but the problem persists, random restarts. What else could this be? I have taken the computer apart and cleaned everything and also taken the PSU apart and cleaned it thoughrouly. The problem still persists, what should my next steps be? • Is there any way to shut up my ATI HD 5770?

  So to preface, I basically built Jeff's machine; I already had some of the components, including (scarily enough) the exact same case1. I've been buying bits and pieces over the past few months, which coincided perfectly with his recent post about three monitors, though not being a gamer outright, I opted for the second-from-the-bottom option. After finally plopping all the pieces lovingly into the case this evening, I turn it on...and it sounds like four professional grade hair-driers. Some quick regression analysis determined that with the video card out, the running machine sounded no louder than our house's vents. Basically, my last desktop build included a $45-at-the-time graphics card, and it's been Macbook Pros and workstations since then, so I have zero idea whether I'll just be able to tune the fan speed later on. Will I be able to get this thing to quiet down every time I'm not playing Modern Warfare 2 at maximum framerate, or should I just send this thing back now, and get the quietest card in my pricerange? 1 One thing of note is that I do not have noise-absorbing foam in the case, as is pictured in the article. I'm only mentioning that because I suspect it could drop the overall output a few decibels, but obviously not that many.

• Computer is dying--what should I be looking for?

  Okay, I'm a bit knowledgeable with pooters and such, but i'm confused. My computer is dying slowly, and I'm not sure what part is causing this. Computer details: Vista, dell machine, intel Q6600, 2.4 Core Duo (quad core), standard memory and drive (unknown manufacturer). Symptoms: I would best describe the symptoms as memory corruption. After a couple days on, I start getting applications crashing or failing to open for a lack of "resources". Sounds are corrupted. Onscreen text gets corrupted; the characters of text are garbled, not the pixels on the screen. Video memory seems untouched as I haven't seen any misplaced pixels. Recently I've lost files on disk. I've also experienced errors reporting a supposed lack of disk space, even though I have fifty gigs free. There was one point where I couldn't get to the POST when booting up. After I cleaned everything (see next) this hasn't happened. Diagnostic steps: First thing I did was clean the case. There was a lot of dust buildup on heatsinks, so I cleaned all that up. No help. Next, I disconnected and reconnected everything, from power cables to memory (did not reseat cpu). No change. Last, I ran the standard vista memory diagnostics and ran checkdisk. Both reported no errors found. I have not run any POST tests, now that I think about it. I'm at a loss at this point. Disk appears fine, memory too. I'd expect motherboard issues to result in the thing not booting up, yet it does every time. What should I be looking at? What more can I do?

• What method of MySQL mirroring should I use for this?

  I'm running an web application hosting service (basically hosting forums for free), and I have two remote servers at my disposal. The code for the application is stored on both servers and isn't a problem, but I'm wondering how to deal with the databases. When someone goes onto a site *.example-host.com, they are sent to one of the two servers and both must be capable of loading the forums from a database. The database must also have write access, for when new members register or post topics etc. The main requirement is speed, but uptime is also important (if a server goes out, the site should still work). I have a few options, but I'm inexperienced and not sure which to go with: 1) [PHP] Split the forum records 50:50 between the two servers. If a server does not have the record for a forum requested, it can request it from the other by remote MySQL and load it. This idea sounded okay, until I realised that 50% of the time, users would be waiting significantly longer for pages to load. I also realised that if one of the servers went down, half the forums would be inaccessible and registrations would have to be disabled. 2) [MySQL] Dual master replication. This would attempt to mirror the two databases and sounds perfect, but I've heard that it can be very problematic. I don't know how fast this is. 3) [MySQL] Use a standard replication, distribute read only queries on both nodes and read/write queries to the master. This sounds like a good option, but again, I'm not sure on speed. I also don't know what would happen if the master server went down. If you have any other suggestions, please post them :)

• Why can I not edit, delete directories inside of this directory

  Hello there, First, I thought this was PHP related, but maybe it isn't. My original post, which may be irrelevant now is located at the bottom. The problem is I have a directory : /articles/. In it are 10 sub directories. I have been changing the permissions lately, but now it seems all the permissions of the parent folder, sub-folders and files are either chmod 755 or 777. I cannot move, delete or edit files inside of this parent directory or sub-directories with my FTP-client. I can however edit, delete, create new files and directories and change them with PHP-functions without problems. What may the problem be? OLD POST. Ignore everything below this line: If I create a directory with mkdir(), or create a file with fopen(), file_put_contents() or SimpleXMLElement::asXML(), I am unable to access the file with my FTP-client or c-Panel File Manager. If I try to delete or edit them, I get errors. Dreamweaver suggests it is a permission problem or a network or filesystem fault (but I've set the permissions with chmod() to 0777, and when I check the cPanel, it confirms chmod 777. I also tried to use fileowner() and the function returns int(99), the same owner as those files that I could access with my FTP-client. It seems files and directories created with PHP can only be modified or be deleted with PHP. I thought this must be a server setup related issue, so I write it here. I am on a shared server, and I have no idea about setting up servers. EDIT: It seems the problem is different. I cannot move files with FTP-client to the parent, or sub-directories either. This problem may not be PHP related, then. It seems the problem applies to any directory, regardless of whether it was created by PHP. EDIT 2: The parent directory has chmod 755. • How can I get (g)Vim to display the character count of the current file?

  I like to write tutorials and articles for a programming forum I frequent. This forum has a character limit per post. I've used Notepad++ in the past to write posts and it keeps a live character count in the status bar. I'm starting to use gVim more and I really don't want to go back to Notepad++ at this point, but it is very useful to have this character count. If I go over the count, I usually end up pasting the post into Notepad++ so I can see when I've trimmed enough to get by the limit. I've seen suggestions that :set ruler would help, but this only gives the character count via the current column index on the current line. This would be great if I didn't use paragraph breaks, but I'm sure you'd agree that reading several thousand characters in one paragraph is not comfortable. I read the help and thought that rulerformat would work, but after looking over the statusline format it uses I didn't see anything that gives a character count for the current buffer. I've seen that there are plugins that add this, but I'm still dipping my toes into gVim and I'm not sure I want to load random plugins before I understand what they do. I'd prefer to use something built in to vim, but if it doesn't exist it doesn't exist. What should I do to accomplish my goal? If it involves a plugin, do you use it and how well does it work?

• Random HTTP 413 error on apach2/php/joomla site

  I have a Joomla site, and every once in a while when I submit something via a form, I get a HTTP 413 error: Request Entity Too Large The requested resource /index.php does not allow request data with POST requests, or the amount of data provided in the request exceeds the capacity limit. In the error.log file I get: Invalid Content-Length, referer: [site]/index.php It doesn't seem this has anything to do with the actual size of the request, for the following reasons: a) I tinkered with the configuration of both Apache, and PHP. In Apache I tried increasing LimitRequestBody, and in PHP post_max_size, max_input_vars, memory_limit, and even upload_max_filesize. Every value is far beyond what is sent in a typical request that generates an error. b) The error pops up quite randomly, and often just hitting refresh allows me to get through. c) I checked the request in Fiddler to make sure everything is right with the content-length stated in the header, and the content of the request itself. Everything appears to be in order. A curious thing is that when I resent the exact same request via Fiddler, I never got the error. It seems I can only recreate it through a browser. So I'm at my wit's end here. I don't even know where to look for the problem anymore. I don't know if it's Apache or PHP (though I can't find anything in PHP error logs, so maybe that means Apache is the more likely culprit?), or PHP in general, or my Joomla site in particular (my bets were on Joomla until a recreated the error on a test script, with a very basic post form, though it does pop up much more often on the Joomla site). If anyone can give any advice on where to even begin with this, I'll be very grateful!

• What happened to 'Copy Public Gallery Link' for folders in Photos in Dropbox?

  I've been trying to figure out how to use the 'Photos' folder properly, but it does not seem to contain the functionality that is mentioned on various websites. From what I've read, you are supposed to create a folder within the 'Photos' folder. At that point, it becomes a public gallery for which you can access the context menu item Copy Public Gallery Link. However, I do not have this context menu item. I found a topic on the DropBox forum, but it is 2 years old. Even the various website information mentioned is over a year old. I found a topic from this year on SuperUser that mentions about the Share link menu item. I understand that this functionality is basically the same as Copy Public Gallery Link, however, the key difference is that it opens the website for which I need to click 'Copy link to this page' link, which then adds it to the clipboard. My primary questions are: Did they phase out the Copy Public Gallery Link from the context menu entirely? If not, is there a way to re-enable this menu item? If not, am I using the Photos folder properly? Lastly, if there is no way to get this menu item, is there some kind of script or hack-around that will let me simplify the Shark link + Copy link to this page functionality without requiring it to open my web browser? Note: I had to edit my post to remove other website links that I mention since I'm considered a 'New User' here and am only able to post 2 hyperlinks. Sorry.

• Web Server slows down (ASP.NET)

  below is a question I posted on stackoverflow . as suggested by Martin Clarke I also post it here. We have a really strange problem. One of the servers in the server farm becomes really slow. We see a number of timeouts in the logs and overall response time is not where it should be (and is on other servers in the farm). What is also strange is that it is not just the web app - Just logging into the server takes up to 1.5 min to show you the desktop. Once you are in, the system is as responsive as ever - unless you try to launch something, i.e. notepad - it takes another minute to launch and after launch it works fine. I checked a number of things - memory utilization is reasonable, CPU is below 15%, windows handles, event logs do not show anything. Recycling the aps.net process does not fix it - it still takes over a minute to log in. Rebooting the server helped, but now it started to slow down again. After a closer look we found out that Windows Temp directory is full of temp files - over 65k files. This is certainly something to take care of. But my question is could it be the root cause of the sluggishness, or there is still something else lurking in the shadows? Edit After more digging I am zeroing in on the issue related to the size of temp directories. This article: (see the original post this thing will not let me include a second link) describes something very similar. It still does not answer the question why the server is still slow even there is no activity.

• What can cause two "identical" setups of IE8 and XP to display things differently?

  This has been baffling me for a while. Of the machines I use in visitting Stack Overflow, two of them are machines with the same setup: Dell with Windows XP with IE8. Since they were issued to me by the same company (one to use in the office, one to use at home), they have identical setups as well. But they display certain page elements differently! One is an Optiplex GX620 desktop, the other is an Inspiron 9100 laptop, but somehow the hardware doesn't seem like something that should be overriding how my browser displays things. Nevertheless, the laptop seems to display things differently than what is expected. Differences have included the following: This issue persisted on the laptop after Jeff fixed it, but was repaired for everyone else and on the Desktop. When viewing Vote Counts on a post, the grey line is left immediately beneath the upvotes but a number-sized white space is below that before the downvotes. On the desktop, it displays properly with the two adjacent and divided by a grey line. Code blocks seem to have a blank line at the end on the laptop. The following image illustrates how the last two elements look on the laptop. So, considering that as far as I can tell, these two setups are identical (I have not messed with any settings and they were both initialized identically as well), what else could be causing the display difference?

• Shrink Windows OS partition with unmovable files

  I am trying to shink Windows 7 OS partition C: but cannot shrink as much as I plan due to unmovable files. I have tried Windows own defrag tool before but it does not move files that are unmovable. Here are some ideas I have learned from previous posts, and I hope at least one of them will work and wish to know the detail how to do: Inspired by this post, which suggests backup C:, then delete C: , create a smaller partition, and then copy the backup to the smaller partition. I was wondering if anyone here can confirm that Windows 7 will still work in this way? What reliable tools can be used for backuping the system, and deleting and creating partition, and then copying back the backup in this method? I am actually trying another way suggested in this post. I have identified what unmovable file currently stop further shrinking: \ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Projects\SystemIndex\Indexer\CiFiles\00010015.wid::$DATA If I understand correctly, the file belongs to Windows Search. Can I set up somewhere in Windows system settings to temperately eliminate the file and similar ones (because there are many similar files under the same directory which I guess will also stand in the way of shrinking and unmovable by defrag)? Any other idea that might work will also be appreciated. Thanks and regards!

• Python script is exiting with no output and I have no idea why

  I'm attempting to debug a Subversion post-commit hook that calls some python scripts. What I've been able to determine so far is that when I run post-commit.bat manually (I've created a wrapper for it to make it easier) everything succeeds, but when SVN runs it one particular step doesn't work. We're using CollabNet SVNServe, which I know from the documentation removes all environment variables. This had caused some problems earlier, but shouldn't be an issue now. Before Subversion calls a hook script, it removes all variables - including $PATH on Unix, and %PATH% on Windows - from the environment. Therefore, your script can only run another program if you spell out that program's absolute name. The body of get_login is in a try block because I was getting strange errors saying there was an unhandled exception in callback_get_login. Never figured out why, but it seems fine now. Let sleeping dogs lie, right? The username and password for get_login are currently hard-coded (but correct) just to eliminate variables and try to change as little as possible at once. (I added the svnuser and svnpass arguments to the existing argument parsing.) So that's where I am. I can't figure out why on earth it's not printing anything into svn2ftp.out.log. If you're wondering, the output for one of these failed attempts in svn2ftp.debug.log is: 2012-09-06 15:18:12,496 INFO svnftp.start 2012-09-06 15:18:12,496 INFO svnftp.done And it's no different on a successful run. So there's nothing useful being logged. I'm lost. I've gone way down the rabbit hole on this one, and don't know where to go from here. Any ideas?

• Silverlight Recruiting Application Part 6 - Adding an Interview Scheduling Module/View

  Between the last post and this one I went ahead and carried the ideas for the Jobs module and view into the Applicants module and view- they're both doing more or less the same thing, except with different objects being at their core.  Made for an easy cut-and-paste operation with a few items being switched from one to another.  Now that we have the ability to add postings and applicants, wouldn't it be nice if we could schedule an interview?  Of course it would! Scheduling Module I think you get the drift from previous posts that these project structures start looking somewhat similar.  The interview scheduling module is no different than the rest- it gets a SchedulingModule.cs file at the root that inherits from IModule, and there is a single SchedulerView.xsml and SchedulerViewModel.cs setup for our V+VM.  We have one unique concern as we enter into this- RadScheduler deals with AppointmentsSource, not ItemsSource, so there are some special considerations to take into account when planning this module. Customizing the Edit Appointment Dialog This initially sounds a lot more intimidating than it really is.  The first step here depends on what you're dealing with for theming, but for ease of everything I went ahead and extracted my templates in Blend for RadScheduler so I could modify it as I pleased.  For the faint of heart, the RadScheduler template is a few thousand lines of goodness since there are some very complex things going on in that control.  I've gone ahead and trimmed down the template parts I don't need as much as possible, so what is left is all that is relevant to the 201.        entityInterview.PostingID = appointmentInterview.PostingID; 202.    } 203.   204.    #endregion 205.} One thing we're doing here which you won't see in any of the other ViewModels is creating a duplicate collection.  I know this is something which will be fixed down the line for using RadScheduler, simplifying this process, but with WCF RIA changing as it does I wanted to ensure functionality would remain consistent as I continued development on this application.  So, I do a little bit of duplication, but for the greater good.  This all takes place starting on line 79, so for every entity that comes back we add it to the collection that is bound to RadScheduler.  Otherwise, the DelegateCommands that you see correspond directly to the events they are named after.  In each case, rather than sending over the full event arguments, I just send in the appointment in question (coming through as the object obj in all cases) so I can add (line 91), edit (line 119), and delete appointments (line 142) like normal.  This just ensures they get updated back to my database.  Also, the one bit of code you won't see is for the Appointment Creating (line 110) event- that is because in the command I've created I simply make the replacement I need to: 1.void element_AppointmentCreating(object sender, AppointmentCreatingEventArgs e) 2.{ 3.    e.NewAppointment = new InterviewAppointment(); 204.    } 205.   206.    #endregion 207.} Nice... right? :) One really important thing to note as well.  See on line 51 where I set the DataContext before the Loaded event?  This is super important, as if you don't have this set before the usercontrol is loaded, the DataContextProxy has no context to use and your EditAppointmentDialog Job/Applicant dropdowns will be blank and empty.  Trust me on this, took a little bit of debugging to figure out that by setting the DataContext post-loaded would only lead to disaster and frustration.  Otherwise, the only other real difference is that instead of sending an ActionHistory item through an event to get added to the database and saved, I do those right in the callback from submitting.  The Result Again, I only have to post one picture because these bad boys used nearly identical code for both the MVVM and the code-behind views, so our end result is... So what have we learned here today?  One, for the most part this MVVM thing is somewhat easy.  Yeah, you sometimes have to write a bunch of extra code, but with the help of a few useful snippits you can turn the process into a pretty streamlined little workflow.  Heck, this story gets even easier as you can see in this blog post by Michael Washington- specifically run a find on 'InvokeCommandAction' and you'll see the section regarding the command on TreeView in Blend 4.  Brilliant!  MVVM never looked so sweet! • Silverlight Recruiting Application Part 6 - Adding an Interview Scheduling Module/View

  Between the last post and this one I went ahead and carried the ideas for the Jobs module and view into the Applicants module and view- they're both doing more or less the same thing, except with different objects being at their core.  Made for an easy cut-and-paste operation with a few items being switched from one to another.  Now that we have the ability to add postings and applicants, wouldn't it be nice if we could schedule an interview?  Of course it would! Scheduling Module I think you get the drift from previous posts that these project structures start looking somewhat similar.  The interview scheduling module is no different than the rest- it gets a SchedulingModule.cs file at the root that inherits from IModule, and there is a single SchedulerView.xsml and SchedulerViewModel.cs setup for our V+VM.  We have one unique concern as we enter into this- RadScheduler deals with AppointmentsSource, not ItemsSource, so there are some special considerations to take into account when planning this module. since there are some very complex things going on in that control.  I've gone ahead and trimmed down the template parts I don't need as much as possible, so what is left is all that is relevant to the 201.        entityInterview.PostingID = appointmentInterview.PostingID; 202.    } 203.   204.    #endregion 205.} One thing we're doing here which you won't see in any of the other ViewModels is creating a duplicate collection.  I know this is something which will be fixed down the line for using RadScheduler, simplifying this process, but with WCF RIA changing as it does I wanted to ensure functionality would remain consistent as I continued development on this application.  So, I do a little bit of duplication, but for the greater good.  This all takes place starting on line 79, so for every entity that comes back we add it to the collection that is bound to RadScheduler.  Otherwise, the DelegateCommands that you see correspond directly to the events they are named after.  In each case, rather than sending over the full event arguments, I just send in the appointment in question (coming through as the object obj in all cases) so I can add (line 91), edit (line 119), and delete appointments (line 142) like normal.  This just ensures they get updated back to my database.  Also, the one bit of code you won't see is for the Appointment Creating (line 110) event- that is because in the command I've created I simply make the replacement I need to: 1.void element_AppointmentCreating(object sender, AppointmentCreatingEventArgs e) 2.{ 3.    e.NewAppointment = new InterviewAppointment(); 204.    } 205.   206.    #endregion 207.} Nice... right? :) One really important thing to note as well.  See on line 51 where I set the DataContext before the Loaded event?  This is super important, as if you don't have this set before the usercontrol is loaded, the DataContextProxy has no context to use and your EditAppointmentDialog Job/Applicant dropdowns will be blank and empty.  Trust me on this, took a little bit of debugging to figure out that by setting the DataContext post-loaded would only lead to disaster and frustration.  Otherwise, the only other real difference is that instead of sending an ActionHistory item through an event to get added to the database and saved, I do those right in the callback from submitting.  The Result Again, I only have to post one picture because these bad boys used nearly identical code for both the MVVM and the code-behind views, so our end result is... So what have we learned here today?  One, for the most part this MVVM thing is somewhat easy.  Yeah, you sometimes have to write a bunch of extra code, but with the help of a few useful snippits you can turn the process into a pretty streamlined little workflow.  Heck, this story gets even easier as you can see in this blog post by Michael Washington- specifically run a find on 'InvokeCommandAction' and you'll see the section regarding the command on TreeView in Blend 4.  Brilliant!  MVVM never looked so sweet! • How to display a JSON error message?

  I'm currently developing a tumblr theme and have built a jQuery JSON thingamabob that uses the Tumblr API to do the following: The user would click on the "post type" link (e.g. Video Posts), at which stage jQuery would use JSON to grab all the posts that's related to that type and then dynamically display them in a designated area. Now everything works absolutely peachy, except that with Tumblr being Tumblr and their servers taking a knock every now and then, the Tumblr API thingy is sometimes offline. Now I can't foresee when this function will be down, which is why I want to display some generic error message if JSON (for whatever reason) was unable to load the post. You'll see I've already written some code to show an error message when jQuery can't find any posts related to that post type BUT it doesn't cover any server errors. • Issue with Multiple ModalPopups, ValidationSummary and UpdatePanels

  I am having an issue when a page contains multiple ModalPopups each containing a ValidationSummary Control. Here is the functionality I need: A user clicks a button and a Modal Popup appears with dynamic content based on the button that was clicked. (This functionality is working. Buttons are wrapped in UpdatePanels and the partial page postback calls .Show() on the ModalPopup) "Save" button in ModalPopup causes client side validation, then causes a full page postback so the entire ModalPopup disappears. (ModalPopup could disappear another way - the ModalPopup just needs to disappear after a successful save operation) If errors occur in the codebehind during Save operation, messages are added to the ValidationSummary (contained within the ModalPopup) and the ModalPopup is displayed again. When the ValidationSummary's are added to the PopupPanel's, the ModalPopups no longer display correctly after a full page postback caused by the "Save" button within the second PopupPanel. (the first panel continues to function correctly) Both PopupPanels are displayed, and neither is "Popped-Up", they are displayed in-line. Any ideas on how to solve this? • Why Java servlet can't get Paypal IPN messages everytime ?

  I have a Java servlet running on my notebook with Windows Vista, I set up a static IP, did port forwarding and registered for a free DDNS service, now my servlet is running, I gave the url to Paypal to send me IPN messages, I went on to it's sandbox site got to the test tools page, tried to send test messages by clicking the "Send IPN" button, most of the time it would fail, the error is : "IPN delivery failed. Unable to connect to the specified URL. Please verify the URL and try again." But maybe 1 in 10 times, it might be successful and my servlet would get the message, and I looked at the messages I got, they are in correct format. So I called Paypal asking why, he said I shouldn't run the servlet on my notebook, in stead I should run it on the web server, but I told him my ISP doesn't support Java on their server, and since I did all the above steps, shouldn't it be the same to run the servlet on my notebook ? He said his test showed he couldn't get to my servlet, but I asked why maybe 1 in 10 times it could get through ? If there is something wrong with running it on my notebook, then 100% times it should fail, am I correct on this point ? But anyway he said that's all he could do, and I should troubleshoot it myself.   Basically, I draw a 3D cube, I can spin it around but I want to be able to touch it and know where on my cube's surface the user touched. I'm using for setting up, generating and spinning. • Android: restful API service

  Hey, I'm looking to make a service which I can use to make calls to a web based rest api. I've spent a couple of days looking through stackoverflow.com, reading books and looking at articles whilst playing about with some code and I can't get anything which I'm happy with. Basically I want to start a service on app init then I want to be able to ask that service to request a url and return the results. In the meantime I want to be able to display a progress window or something similar. I've created a service currently which uses IDL, I've read somewhere that you only really need this for cross app communication, so think these needs stripping out but unsure how to do callbacks without it. Also when I hit the post(Config.getURL("login"), values) the app seems to pause for a while (seems weird - thought the idea behind a service was that it runs on a different thread!) Currently I have a service with post and get http methods inside, a couple of AIDL files (for two way communication), a ServiceManager which deals with starting, stopping, binding etc to the service and I'm dynamically creating a Handler with specific code for the callbacks as needed. I don't want anyone to give me a complete code base to work on, but some pointers would be greatly appreciated; even if it's to say I'm doing it completely wrong. I'm pretty new to Android and Java dev so if there are any blindingly obvious mistakes here - please don't think I'm a rubbish developer, I'm just wet behind the ears and would appreciate being told exactly where I'm going wrong.
