• Video acceleration problem with Windows 7 games and PPTX files

  I have a Dell xps M1330 which originally ran Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7. When I try to run a Win 7 game like spider solitaire I receive the following message: The game is running in software rendering mode. Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver which could slow down game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on. I confirmed that hardware acceleration is turned on. When I go to Dell's site, I'm told there is no later video driver. When I run the game it runs very choppy. I have a .pptx file which is doing strange things in normal view and I suspect it may be related to the same video acceleration problem.

• Vim with Powershell

  I'm using gvim on Windows. In my _vimrc I've added: set shell=powershell.exe set shellcmdflag=-c set shellpipe=> set shellredir=> function! Test() echo system("dir -name") endfunction command! -nargs=0 Test :call Test() If I execute this function (:Test) I see nonsense characters (non number/letter ASCII characters). If I use cmd as the shell, it works (without the -name), so the problem seems to be with getting output from powershell into vim. Interestingly, this works great: :!dir -name As does this: :r !dir -name UPDATE: confirming behavior mentioned by David If you execute the set commands mentioned above in the _vimrc, :Test outputs nonsense. However, if you execute them directly in vim instead of in the _vimrc, :Test works as expected. Also, I've tried using iconv in case it was an encoding problem: :echo iconv( system("dir -name"), "unicode", &enc ) But this didn't make any difference. I could be using the wrong encoding types though. Anyone know how to make this work?

• Getting error 0x000003eb when installing DDK sample printer drivers

  I've got a development machine, which has been severly abused when it comes to installing and removing printer drivers. I'm now at the stage where I want to install some sample printer drivers from the DDK (WDK), but unfortunately I get the message 'Unable to install printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x000003eb). So I tried installing the same printer driver built from the DDK in a clean Win 7 x64 VM, and it works, so the only thing I can imagine is that the driver store or driver folder may be slightly corrupt from the many previous printer drivers I had installed. So my question is, is there anyway I can clean my system of old printer drivers / file? Or any repair functionality in windows that may replace the common windows printer drivers?

• Problem calling Java from PHP script

  I am working on windows. I am running PHP (5.1.3) scripts on Tomcat using PHP/Java bridge. • MySQL Linked Server and SQL Server 2008 Express Performance

  Hi All, I am currently trying to setup a MySQL Linked Server via SQL Server 2008 Express. I have tried two methods, creating a DSN using the mySQL 5.1 ODBC driver, and using Cherry Software OLE DB Driver as well. The method that I prefer would be using the ODBC driver, but both run horrendously slow (doing one simple join takes about 5 min). Is there any way I can get better performance? We are trying to cross query between multiple mySQL databases on different servers, and this seems to be method we think would work well. Any comments, suggestions, etc... would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Jeffrey

  I understand how to do a Distinct() on a IEnumerable and that I have to create an IEqualityComparer for more advanced stuff however is there a way in which you can tell which duplicated item to return? For example say you have a List<T> List<MyClass> test = new List<MyClass>(); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 1, InnerID = 4}); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 2, InnerID = 4}); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 3, InnerID = 14}); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 4, InnerID = 14}); You then do: var distinctItems = test.Distinct(new DistinctItemComparer()); class DistinctItemComparer : IEqualityComparer<MyClass> { public bool Equals(MyClass x, MyClass y) { return x.InnerID == y.InnerID;; } public int GetHashCode(MyClassobj) { return obj.InnerID.GetHasCode(); } } This code will return the classes with ID 1 and 3. Is there a way to return the ID matches 2 & 4.

• Asp.Net Cache, modify an object from cache and it changes the cached value

  Hi, I'm having an issue when using the Asp.Net Cache functionality. I add an object to the Cache then at another time I get that object from the Cache, modify one of it's properties then save the changes to the database. But, the next time I get the object from Cache it contains the changed values. So, when I modify the object it modifies the version which is contained in cache even though I haven't updated it in the Cache specifically. Does anyone know how I can get an object from the Cache which doesn't reference the cached version? i.e. Step 1: Item item = new Item(); item.Title = "Test"; Cache.Insert("Test", item, null, DateTime.Now.AddHours(1), System.Web.Caching.Cache.NoSlidingExpiration); Step 2: Item item = (Item)Cache.Get("test"); item.Title = "Test 1"; Step 3: Item item = (Item)Cache.Get("test"); if(item.Title == "Test 1"){ Response.Write("Object has been changed in the Cache."); } I realise that with the above example it would make sense that any changes to the item get reflected in cache but my situation is a bit more complicated and I definitely don't want this to happen.

• Wildcard subdomain .htaccess and Codeigniter

  Hi All, I am trying to create the proper .htaccess that would allow me to map as such: http://domain.com/ --> http://domain.com/home http://domain.com/whatever --> http://domain.com/home/whatever http://user.domain.com/ --> http://domain.com/user http://user.domain.com/whatever --> http://domain.com/user/whatever/ Here, someone would type in the above URLs, however internally, it would be redirecting as if it were the URL on the right. Also the subdomain would be dynamic (that is, http://user.domain.com isn't an actual subdomain but would be a .htaccess rewrite) Also /home is my default controller so no subdomain would internally force it to /home controller and any paths following it (as shown in #2 example above) would be the (catch-all) function within that controller. Like wise if a subdomain is passed it would get passed as a (catch-all) controller along with any (catch-all) functions for it (as shown in #4 example above) Hopefully I'm not asking much here but I can't seem to figure out the proper .htaccess or routing rules (in Codeigniter) for this. httpd.conf and hosts are setup just fine. • How to make php-closure compiler output to a predefined file name? (Updated)

  Php-closure compiler (linked to source code) currently writes the compiled code to a md5 encoded filename. How can I make it so it write the compiled code to a predefined name like compiled_code.js? . . I think it has to do with the write() function on Line 164. It gets the filename via the _getCacheFileName() function (Line 272). function _getCacheFileName() { return $this->_cache_dir . $this->_getHash() . ".js"; } I've tried altering it to this: function _getCacheFileName() { //return $this->_cache_dir . $this->_getHash() . ".js"; return 'copiled_code.js'; } without any results. • Why is iPdb not displaying STOUT after my input?

  I can't figure out why ipdb is not displaying stout properly. I'm trying to debug why a test is failing and so I attempt to use ipdb debugger. For some reason my Input seems to be accepted, but the STOUT is not displayed until I (c)ontinue. Is this something broken in ipdb? It makes it very difficult to debug a program. • JavaScript Intellisene Problem?

  I've got an issue with JavaScript intellisense in Visual Web Developer 2008, which I'm starting to believe is "just one of those things", but thought I'd ask here just to check. I have a file MyOtherFile.js with a function GetRandomNumber() defined like so: function GetRandomNumber() { /// <summary> /// Summary description for GetRandomNumber /// </summary> return Math.random(); } When I reference this from another file, screen.js (/// <reference path="MyOtherFile.js" />) I get the intellisense as expected with the summary text as above. If, however, I call the function GetRandomNumber from within its own file (MyOtherFile.js) then I don't get the sumamry description. Any thoughts? Thanks.

If I have machine with native IE6 running chrome frame click the TEST button, I receive: Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. Requested URL: /Default.aspx I have tried this test on an IIS 7 host and several other IE6 machines with the same result. What I have noticed is that it is trying to postback to the wrong URL. I have checked with fiddler and have seen it will start at hostname/test/default.aspx but when I click the button it is trying to post to hostname/default.aspx Any help is greatly appreciated.

• EloTouch touchscreen suspends correctly but does not come out of standby on Ubuntu 10.04

  I am using an EloTouch touchscreen on a minimal Ubuntu 10.04 installation. I have a bare Xserver running without any desktop environment, just an xterm. The touchscreen is working great, but there is still one small problem. As soon as the touchscreen goes to standby, it is not coming out of standby when touching the screen. Using a keyboard or mouse does get it out of standby though. I am looking for any hints or directions to a cause of this problem. Is this an x.org configuration problem? A driver problem? Is this a known problem with touchscreens in general? Any pointers are welcome. The driver I am using is an unreleased EloTouch driver (3.5.0). I received it through a reseller who can not give me any technical information unfortunately.

• Rails 2.3.2 trying to render ERB instead of HAML

  Rails is suddenly trying to render ERB instead of Haml and I can't figure out why. I've created new rails projects, reinstalled Haml, and reinstalled Rails. Here's exactly the steps I take when making my application (Rails 2.3.2): rails> rails test rails> cd test rails\test> haml --rails . rails\test> ruby script\generate model user email:string password:string rails\test> ruby script\generate controller users index rails\test> rake db:migrate Here's what the UsersController looks like: class UsersController < ApplicationController def index @users = User.all end end My routes: ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| map.resources :users end I now create views\users\index.html.haml: %table %th(style="text-align: left;") %h1 Users - for user in @users %tr %td= user.email %td= user.password Annnd run the server... I navigate to localhost:3000\users and I get this error message: Template is missing Missing template users/index.erb in view path app/views For some reason Rails is trying to find and render .erb files instead of .haml files. vendor\plugins\haml\init.rb exists, untouched. I've reinstalled Haml (Pretty Penny) multiple times and still get the same results. I've also tried adding config.gem 'haml' to my environment.rb but this also doesn't work. I can't figure out why suddenly rails will not render haml for me.

• Django template not loading properly

  Hey, When this one runs everything goes fine: (r"^newobject$", "views.myobjects.newobject"), All the CSS + JS files are properly fetched from: static/css/... static/js/... When this one runs: (r"^mybjects/(([a-z]|[A-Z]|[0-9])+)$","views.myobjects.loadobject"), All the css and JS files that are being fetched, are run trough the urlpatterns and are returning my defailt page: (r"", 'views.main.index'), This makes all my CSS and JS code to actualy be HTML. My guess is that i'm giving some noob mistake. Is there any common reason why this should happen? And how to fix it?

Only a libstdc++.so.* file provided by the libstdc++6 package. I tried to link (using ln -s) libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 to the libstdc++.so.6 file. It does not work, a batch of symbols seems to be lacking when I'm trying to ld my .o files with this lib. /usr/local/test/lib/libtest.so: undefined reference to `__builtin_vec_delete' /usr/local/test/lib/libtest.so: undefined reference to `istrstream::istrstream(int, char const *, int)' /usr/local/test/lib/libtest.so: undefined reference to `__rtti_user' /usr/local/test/lib/libtest.so: undefined reference to `__builtin_new' /usr/local/test/lib/libtest.so: undefined reference to `istream::ignore(int, int)' What would you do ? How may I find in which lib those symbols are exported ?

• JavaScript keeps returning ambigious error

• How to have a policy class implement a virtual function?

  I'm trying to design a policy-based class, where a certain interface is implemented by the policy itself, so the class derives from the policy, which itself is a template (I got this kind of thinking from Alexandrescu's book): #include <iostream> #include <vector> class TestInterface { public: virtual void test() = 0; }; class TestImpl1 { public: void test() {std::cerr << "Impl1" << std::endl;} }; template<class TestPolicy> class Foo : public TestInterface, TestPolicy { }; Then, in the main() function, I call test() on (potentially) various different objects that all implement the same interface: int main() { std::vector<TestInterface*> foos; foos.push_back(new Foo<TestImpl1>()); foos[0]->test(); delete foos[0]; return 0; } It doesn't compile, though, because the following virtual functions are pure within ‘Foo<TestImpl1>’: virtual void TestInterface::test() I thought TestInterface::test() is implemented because we derive from TestImpl1?

• How can I create a javascript library in a separate file and "include" it in another?

  First, a caveat. The main script is not run in a webpage. I will be running the .js file in Windows using Windows Script Host. The problem: I would like to create a javascript "library" containing a number of objects, each with a number of functions. I expect this library will get rather large with time and would like to keep it in a separate javascript file (let's call it Library.js). I would like to access the objects from Library.js from another script (let's call this one User.js). In essence, I am looking for something similar to the C/C++ "include" paradigm. Is there anyway to implement this in javascript? (Remember, this is not web-based)
