  • How do I parse file paths separated by a space in a string?

    Background: I am working in Automator on a wrapper to a command line utility. I need a way to separate an arbitrary number of file paths delimited by a single space from a single string, so that I may remove all but the first file path to pass to the program. Example input string: /Users/bobby/diddy dum/ding.mp4 /Users/jimmy/gone mia/come back jimmy.mp3 ... Desired output: /Users/bobby/diddy dum/ding.mp4 Part of the problem is the inflexibility on the Automator end of things. I'm using an Automator action which returns unescaped POSIX filepaths delimited by a space (or comma). This is unfortunate because: 1. I cannot ensure file/folder names will not contain either a space or comma, and 2. the only inadmissible character in Mac OS X filenames (as far as I can tell) is :. There are options which allow me to enclose the file paths in double or single quotes, or angle brackets. The program itself accepts the argument of the aforementioned input string, so there must be a way of separating the paths. I just do not have a keen enough eye to see how to do it with sed or awk. At first I thought I'll just use sed to replace every [space]/ with [newline]/ and then trim all but the first line, but that leaves the loophole open for folders whose names end with a space. If I use the comma delimiter, the same happens, just for a comma instead. If I encapsulate in double or single quotation marks, I am opening another can of worms for filenames with those characters. The image/link is the relevant part of my Automator workflow. -- UPDATE -- I was able to achieve what I wanted in a rather roundabout way.     I installed Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 in an XP Mode VM on Windows 7. Then I created a trivial Silverlight 4 (beta) project and tried to build it.   • Word list sources

    I am looking for a source of nouns, adverbs, adjectives, and verbs in several languages. I'd like the lists to already be split apart, and not have to go through the OED (and non-English equivalents) by hand re-creating said lists. I don't really care about definitions, and I understand some words can be multiple parts of speech - that's fine - words like "many" could be a noun or adjective, and can appear in both lists. Does anyone here know of such a source? If not, might someone be able to point me in the right direction?

I can't seem to crack this - I have two tables (Persons and Companies), and I'm trying to create a view that: 1) shows all persons 2) also returns companies by themselves once, regardless of how many persons are related to it 3) orders by name across both tables To clarify, some sample data: (Table: Companies) Id Name 1 Banana 2 ABC Inc. 3 Microsoft 4 Bigwig (Table: Persons) Id Name RelatedCompanyId 1 Joe Smith 3 2 Justin 3 Paul Rudd 4 4 Anjolie 5 Dustin 4 The output I'm looking for is something like this: Name PersonName CompanyName RelatedCompanyId ABC Inc. NULL ABC Inc. NULL Anjolie Anjolie NULL NULL Banana NULL Banana NULL Bigwig NULL Bigwig NULL Dustin Dustin Bigwig 4 Joe Smith Joe Smith Microsoft 3 Justin Justin NULL NULL Microsoft NULL Microsoft NULL Paul Rudd Paul Rudd Bigwig 4 As you can see, the new "Name" column is ordered across both tables (the company names appear correctly in between the person names), and each company appears exactly once, regardless of how many people are related to it. Can this even be done in SQL?! P.S. I'm trying to create a view so I can use this later for easy data retrieval, fulltext indexing and make the programming side simpler by just querying the view.

  • Unexpected behavior in Bash

    From man bash: A simple command is a sequence of optional variable assignments followed by blank-separated words and redirections, and terminated by a control operator. The first word specifies the command to be executed, and is passed as argument zero. The remaining words are passed as arguments to the invoked command. So it's perfectly legal to write: foo=bar echo $foo but it doesn't work as I expect (it prints just a newline). It's quite strange to me since: $ foo=bar printenv foo=bar TERM=rxvt-unicode [...] Could someone please explain me where I'm doing wrong?

  • WPF not applying default styles defined in MergedDictionaries?

    In a WPF application I defined default control styles in separate resource dictionaries (e.g. "ButtonStyle.xaml"), and added them as merged dictionaries to a resource dictionary named "ResDictionary.xaml". If I refer this "ResDictionary.xaml" as merged dictionary in my App.xaml, the default styles are not applied. However, if I refer the "ButtonStyle.xaml", it works correctly. If I recompile the same code in .NET 3.5 or 3.0, it recognizes and applies the default styles referred in "App.xaml" through "ResDictionary.xaml", but not in .NET 4.0. At runtime if I check the Application.Current.Resources dictionary, the default styles are there, but they are not applied, only if I specify the Style property explicitly in the Button control. Are there any solutions to refer a resource dictionary (containig default styles) this way in .NET 4.0?   • WPF Textbox & Borders - curious resizing behavior

    The following XAML produces a window with strange behavior around the textbox: <Window x:Class="WpfSandbox.CuriousExample" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="CuriousExample" Height="300" Width="300"> <DockPanel Margin="15"> <TextBox BorderThickness="1" BorderBrush="#FF000000"></TextBox> </DockPanel> </Window> What happens, at least during my limited testing, is that the textbox renders with an inset border pattern (top/left is black, right/bottom is grey). However, when you resize to any position except the original, the entire textbox border goes to black. Whenever you return the window to the exact number of on-screen pixels the form had when it first loaded, it's inset again.   • A very weird problem with localization (ASP.NET MVC)

    I'm using Web Developer 2010. I just created a resource file lang.resx with different values in english. Then I created a lang.FR-fr.resx with French equivalents. However after tryingto compile, I get Error 131 Task could not find "AL.exe" using the SdkToolsPath "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin\NETFX 4.0 Tools\" or the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A". Make sure the SdkToolsPath is set and the tool exists in the correct processor specific location under the SdkToolsPath and that the Microsoft Windows SDK is installed This is so weird! If I remove FR-fr part, it will work, but there will be no translation of course. I went to that directory and found out that I don't have al.exe there. I managed to find it in .NET 2 folder, but after copying it didn't help. It throws an exception. I tried to reinstall .NET 4, to install Windows SDK, and it still doesn't work. Maybe I can somehow get this al.exe file?

I'm able to merge the documents, but some of my formatting is missing (namely the fonts and images).   • Does GetSystemInfo (on Windows) always return the number of logical processors?

    Reading up on this, and specifically reading the Microsoft docs, it looks like it should be returning the number of PHYSICAL processors, and that you should use GetLogicalProcessorInformation to figure out how many LOGICAL processors you have. Here's the doc I found on the SYSTEM_INFO structure: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms724958(v=VS.85).aspx And here's the doc on GetLogicalProcessorInformation: (spaces added to get through spam filter) http:// msdn.microsoft.com/ en-us/ library/ ms683194.aspx Reading up on it further though, in most of the discussions I've found on this topic, developers say to that GetSystemInfo (and the SYSTEM_INFO structure) report the number of LOGICAL processors. When I search again, I find that MS did release some info on this (and a hot fix), here (spaces added to get through spam filter): http:// support. microsoft.com/ kb/936235 Reading that, it sounds like on Xp, pre-service Pack 3, GetSystemInfo reports the number of LOGICAL processors in the SYSTEM_INFO structure. It also reads to me that on Windows Vista and Windows 7, GetSystemInfo should be reporting the number of PHYSICAL processors (different to Windows XP pre-service Pack 3). Does anyone know what it actually does? Does GetSystemInfo really report the number of physical processors (on the same computer) differently, depending on which OS it's running on?

  • Using excel, how can I count the number of cells in a column containing the text "true" or "false"?

    I have a spreadsheet that has a column of cells where each cell contains a single word. I would like to count the occurrences of some words. I can use the COUNTIF function for most words, but if the word is "true" or "false", I get 0. A B 1 apples 2 2 true 0 3 false 0 4 oranges 1 5 apples In the above spreadsheet table, I have these formulas in cells B1, B2, B3 and B4: =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"apples") =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"true") =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"false") =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"oranges) As you can see, I can count apples, but not true or false. I have also tried this: =COUNTIF(A1:A5,TRUE) But that does not work either. Note -- I am using Excel 2007.

    Hi all, I'm trying to paramaterize some queries in SSIS. After some reading, it sounds like my best option is to create one variable that contains my base sql, another that contains my criteria and a final variable that is evaluated as an expression that includes both of these. I want to end up with an SQL query that is effectively UPDATE mytable set something='bar' where something_else='foo' So my first two variables have the scope of my package and are as follows: Name: BaseSQL Data Type: String Value: UPDATE mytable set something = 'bar' where something_else = Name: MyVariable Data Type: String Value: foo My third variable has a scope of the data flow task where I want to use this SQL and is as follows: Name: SQLQuery Data Type: String Value: @[User::BaseSQL] + "'" + @[User::MyVariable] + "'" EvaluateAsExpression: True In the OLE DB Source, I then choose my connection and 'SQL command from variable' and select User::SQLQuery from the dropdown box. The Variable Value window then displays the following: @[User::BaseSQL] + "'" + @[User::MyVariable] + "'" This is as desired, and would provide the output I want from my DB. The variable name dropdown also contains User::BaseSQL and User::MyVariable so I believe that my namespaces are correct. However, when I then click preview, I get the following error when configuring an OLE DB Source (using SQL command from variable): TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio Error at Set runtime in DB [Set runtime in myDb DB [1]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. The build is run with the command: MSBuild.exe /logger:MyLogger.dll build.xml Within the build.xml is a sequence of tasks, most of which have been custom written to compile a (C++ or C#) solution, and are accessed with the following custom Task: <DoCompile Desc="Building MyProject 1" Param1="$(Param1Value)" /> <DoCompile Desc="Building MyProject 2" Param1="$(Param1Value)" /> <!-- etc --> The custom build task DoCompile is defined as: public class DoCompile : Microsoft.Build.Utilities.Task { [Required] public string Description { set { _description = value; } } // ... more code here ... } Whilst the build is running, as each task starts, the logger module receives IEventSource.TaskStarted events, subscribed to as follows: public class MyLogger : Microsoft.Build.Utilities.Logger { public override void Initialize(Microsoft.Build.Framework.IEventSource eventSource) { eventSource.TaskStarted += taskStarted; } private void taskStarted(object sender, Microsoft.Build.Framework.TaskStartedEventArgs e) { // write e.TaskName, attributes and e.Timestamp to log file } } The problem I have is that in the taskStarted() method above, I want to be able to access the attributes of the task for which the event was fired. I only have access to the logger code and cannot change either the build.xml or the custom build tasks. Can anyone suggest a way I can do this?

    Hi, I keep receiving this error in my ASP.NET web app (below). I give the Network Service account rights to the specified folder, it runs fine for a while, but then within a day or two the error reoccurs, as the Network Service account has been removed from the rights for the folder. Adding it again fixes it, but why does it keep reocurring? Could it be anything to do with using Interop components (such as WMI)? Here's the full error: Server Error in '/DriveMonitor' Application.   • Does anyone have documentation on SHGetSysColor?

    I'm trying to find any reference for this function, but I haven't found anything. All I have is an obscure KB from Microsoft referencing that a programmer made boo-boo when coding a part of the Windows Mobile 6 where he should call SHGetSysColor but instead he called GetSysColor that gives a complete different color, for the same spec. From what I could gather the GetSysColor read a color value in the registry from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Color\SHColor or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Color\DefSHColor and returns the color according to the index. Googling for SHGetSysColor in gives me only 7 matches, two of them are the KB from Microsoft (one in English, the other in French) one is from a Russian site (which I don't read), yet another two are from the freepascal.org and one from Koders.com that is describing the commctl.def file. I went to the commctl.h trying to see if I could find reference tom this function, and found absolutely nothing. No search on MSDN, either fro Google, Bing, or the default MSDN search gave me any result. So, does anyone know what indexes are we talking about here?

  • Gacutil.exe successfully adds assembly, but assembly missing from GAC. Why?

    I'm running GacUtil.exe from within Visual Studio Command Prompt 2010 to register a dll (CatalogPromotion.dll) to the GAC. After running the utility, it says Assembly Successfully added to the cache, and running gacutil /l CatalogPromotionDll shows that the GAC contains the assembly, but I can't see the assembly when I navigate to C:\WINDOWS\assembly from Windows Explorer. Why can't I see the assembly in WINDOWS\assembly from Windows Explorer but I can see it using gacutil.exe?
