  Hello I am about to create my first proper application in ASP.NET MVC3. It is basically a jobs site with 3 levels: 1) Users - No registration and can view all jobs posted on the website 2) Posters - Need to register and login to post adverts 3) Admin - Need to register and login to post adverts and review postings before they go live Would you suggest I use the same Jobs controller for the three levels I mention above? With a LIST action to show jobs to "Users" and a CREATE & EDIT action for the "Posters" & "Admin"? Thanks Paul

• Trying to configure HWIC-3G-HSPA

  I'm trying to configure a couple of Cisco 1941 routes. The are both identical routers. Each as a HWIC-1T (Smart Serial interface) and a HWIC-3G-HSPA 3G interface. These routers are to be sent to remote sites. We have connectivity to one of the sites but if remote site A gors down we lose connectivity to remote site B. The HWIC-1T is the primary WAN interface using frame relay joining the two remote sites We want the HWIC-3G-HSPA to be usable for direct connectivity from head office to remote site B, and also the HWIC-3G-HSPA is do be used for comms between the remote sites when the frame relay is down (happens quite a bit). I initialy tried to do dynamic routing using EIGRP however in my lab setup of laptop - 1941 - 1941 - laptop, I was unable to get end to end connectivity. I later settled on static routing and have got end to end connectivity but only over frame relay, not the HWIC-3G-HSPA. I've tried using kron to ping the local HWIC-3G-HSPA interface (cellular 0/1/0) every minute but that hasn't been successful. Manually pinging the IP assigned (by the telco) to ce0/1/0 does bring the interface up. Any ideas? Thanks

• ViewController vs. View

  Trying to wrap my head around the apple design scheme. I have a UIViewController and the corresponding XIB file that has my main screen in my application. I want to have a button on this XIB that displays another "form" (this is my disconnect) in the foreground where the user selects from a myriad of choices, then it hides that "form" and goes back to the first one. I'm completely lost here. Initially I thought I'd just add another view and set the self.view of my controller to the new view, add another IBAction and call it a day, but I can't seem to make that work. For sake of argument, say I want to "gray out" the current form, have a modal type window that takes up roughly 60% of the screen and requires you select an option, then it hides itself and we go back to normal. What is the standard approach here? Thanks

• Rails - building an absolute url in a model's virtual attribute without url helper

  I have a model that has paperclip attachments. The model might be used in multiple rails apps I need to return a full (non-relative) url to the attachment as part of a JSON API being consumed elsewhere. I'd like to abstract the paperclip aspect and have a simple virtual attribute like this: def thumbnail_url self.photo.url(:thumb) end This however only gives me the relative path. Since it's in the model I can't use the URL helper methods, right? What would be a good approach to prepending the application root url since I don't have helper support? I would like to avoid hardcoding something or adding code to the controller method that assembles my JSON. Thank you

Inmediatly after that it autocatically log out form the session. Any ideas?

• for a single-table inheritance in rails, how do I know the 'type' when creating a record?

  I have several models which are very similar: Contact_Emails, Contact_Letters, Contact_Calls -- and I think life could be easier making them into a Single Table Inheritance called Contact_Event. However, the way I have it set up now is when something is created for a Contact_Email, I have a dedicated controller that I call and know that I am passing the arguments that are approrpriate. For example, new_contact_email(contact, email). I then have: Emails.find(email.contact_id), etcera, all very specific to that Model. I'm not sure how I extract the class/models to use. How do I keep the instance beyond the method where it was allocated? I assign values in one method and want to be able to use those values in other methods.   Our process allows users to activate their account, and then configure e-mail preferences. We're using the tag: <a4j:commandButton id="activate" action="#{controller.agreeAction}" image="/img/ok.png" styleClass="activate-button" reRender="mainContent, sideBar" oncomplete="showEmailDialog();" /> This works fine on Firefox, but on IE, the showEmaiDialog() fires off to display the new dialog, and then the full page reloads, which instantly hides it again. I put in numerous alert() calls to make sure of what was happening. I see the e-mail dialog until I clear the final alert box in in the showEmailDialog() script, and then I see the alerts that I put into jQuery(document).ready(). Why does IE do a full page reload instead of just refreshing the requested sections?

• My map callouts don't display the image when clicked

  I am developing an iPhone application for a university project and I'm new to iPhone development. I have looked through Apple's MapCallouts code but it doesn't seem feasible to implement it. So far my code displays a map, drops annotations, displays the title and it displays the right call out button. But this is where I encounter problems. When I press on the callout button, it displays a blank view controller but it should display a different image for every callout that's tapped and this isn't happening so far. When I remove the subview the memory from that controller is not released. How can I release that subviews memory instantly? Does anyone have an example? This would solve all my problems!   Hi, i'm new to iphone development. I spend several days by looking for how write muliview app for an Iphone OS. I found how to switch the diferent views without navigation hierarchy (in this article). It's great, but i want more complicated function. For example, i have three diferent views (view 1 - 3) and i can switch between them with technique from link 1. It works fine. My question is: How can i put UITabBarController on view 2, that shows own subviews (tabView 1 - 3) and how put UINavigationController on view 3, that shows own subviews (navView 1 - 2)? The reslut should look like that, one main view (view 1) with two buttons (for example), which switch me to "window" with UiTabBarController or UINavigationController. I found only tutorials, where UITabBarController was a first controller class, that shows directly from AppDelegate (something like default Xcode predefined scenarios).   I've got a UITabBarController with 7 tabs. Each of the 7 tabs has its own UINavigationController and customizes its toolbar. When a view is loaded via the UITabBarController's "More" menu its custom toolbar isn't appearing. If i switch the order of the views around so that the same view is now accessible from the UITabBar without going through the "More" menu then the custom toolbar shows up like it's supposed to. Is there a way to customize a NavigationController's toolbar when that NavigationController is loaded via the "More" menu of a TabBarController? I'm actually also interested in replacing the "More" menu navigation controller with my own custom one on views loaded via the "More" menu... not sure whether that's even possible. Any feedback will be appreciated.

• Limit the model data fields serialized by Web API based on the return type Interface

  We're updating our architecture to use a single object model for desktop, web and mobile that can be used in the MVVM pattern. I would like to be able to limit the data fields that are serialized through Web API by using interfaces on the controllers. This is required because the model objects for mobile are stored in HTML5 local storage so don't carry optional data while a thin desktop client would be able to store (and work with) more data. To achieve this a model will implement the different interfaces that define which data fields should be serialized and there will be a controller specific to the interface. The problem is that the Web API always serializes every field in the model even if it is not part of the interface being returned. How can we only serialize fields in the returned interface?

  I have created an additional iPad target for what was originally an iphone app. From the Apple docs: "In nearly all cases, you will want to define a new view controller class to manage the iPad version of your application interface, especially if that interface is at all different from your iPhone interface. You can use conditional compilation to coordinate the creation of the different view controllers." But they don't give any example or detail on what conditional compilation is. Can anyone give an example? And where would I do this?

• iPhone: Save with validation on back navigation

  In my iPhone application I have navigation controller, main screen and some edit screens. On edit screen user does some input that has to be validated before I can save it. Ideally I would like to update data automatically on back navigation without additional "Done" button. Can I do some validation and save on back navigation (i.e. when user taps on standard back button) in a way that allows my to stop navigation and show some error message if something is wrong? I see several other possibilities: Create my custom left button and make it looks like standard back. (Why Apple didn't put this button style into public API?) Add "Done" button and save data only if user taps it but both these choices I like much less. So if there is a way to achieve what I want, I'd like to use it.

But I have AllowHtml on the property that I’m getting the error. However, the implementation is not the same -- the ActiveSupport version takes arguments and the JSON gem version doesn't. I installed a gem that required the JSON gem and my app broke. The issue is that I'm using to_json in a controller that returns a list of objects, but I want to control which attributes are returned. When code anywhere in my system does require 'json' I get this error message: TypeError: wrong argument type Hash (expected Data) I tried a couple of things that I read online to fix it, but nothing worked. I ended up re-writing the gem to use ActiveSupport::JSON.decode instead of JSON.parse. This works but it's not sustainable...I can't be forking gems every time I want to use a gem that requires the JSON gem. Update: The best solution of this problem is to upgrade to Rails 2.3 or higher, which fixed it.
