  This post is the first of a series that is going to describe the EPM System architecture per component. During the following weeks a couple of follow up posts will describe each component. If applicable, the component will have its standard port next to its name in brackets. EPM Foundation is Java based and consists of two web applications, Shared Services and Workspace. Both applications are accessed by browser through Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) or Internet Information Services (IIS). Communication to the backend database is done by JDBC. The file system to store Lifecycle Management (LCM) artifacts can be either local or remote (e.g. NFS, network share). For authentication purposes, the EPM Product Suite can connect to external directories or databases. Interaction with other EPM Suite components like product specific Lifecycle Management connectors or Reporting and Analysis Web happens through HTTP protocol. • How to move MOSS 2007 to another SharePoint Farm

  It was time of my first onsite client assignment on SharePoint. Client had one server production environment. They wanted to upgrade the topology with completely new SharePoint Farm of three servers. So, the task was to move whole MOSS 2007 stuff to the new server environment without impacting data. The last three words “… without impacting data…” were actually putting pressure on my head. Moreover SSP was required to move because additional information has been added for users apart from AD import.   I thought I had to do only backup and restore. It appeared pretty easy at first thought. Just because of these three damn scary words, I thought to check out on internet for guidance related to this scenario. I couldn’t get anything except general guidance of moving server on Microsoft TechNet site. I promised myself for starting blogs with this post if I would be successful in this task. Well, I took long time to write this but finally made it. I hope it will be useful to all guys looking for SharePoint server movement.   Before beginning restoration, make sure that, there is no difference in versions of SharePoint at source and destination server. Also check whether the state of SharePoint Installation at the time of backup and restore is same or not. (E.g. SharePoint related service packs and patches if any)   The main tasks of the server movement are as follow:   1.        Backup all the databases 2.        Install and configure SharePoint on new environment 3.        Deploy all solutions (WSP Files) globally to destination server- for installing features attached to the solutions 4.        Install all the custom features 5.        Deploy/Copy custom pages/files which are added to the “12Hive” folder later 6.        Restore SSP 7.        Restore My Site 8.        Restore other web application   Tasks 3 to 5 are for making sure that we have configured the environment well enough for the web application to be restored successfully. The main and complex task was restoring SSP. I have started restoring SSP through Central Admin. After a while, the restoration status was updated to “unsuccessful”. “Damn it, what went wrong?” I thought looking at the error detail down the page. I couldn’t remember the error message but I had corrected and restored it again.   Actually once you fail restoring SSP, until and unless you don’t clean all related stuff well, your restoration will be failed again and again. I wanted to find the actual reason. So cleaned, restored, cleaned, restored… I had tried almost 5-6 times and finally, I succeeded. I had realized how pleasant it is, to see the word “Successful” on the screen. Without wasting your much time to read, let me write all the detailed steps of restoring SSP:   1.        Delete the SSP through following STSADM command. stsadm -o deletessp -title <SSP name> -deletedatabases -force e.g.: stsadm -o deletessp -title SharedServices1 -deletedatabases –force 2.        Check and delete the web application associated with SSP if it exists. 3.        Remove Link from Check and remove “Alternate Access Mapping” associated with SSP if it exists. 4.        Check and delete IIS site as well as application pool associated with SSP if it exists. 5.        Stop following services: ·         Office SharePoint Server Search ·         Windows SharePoint Services Search ·         Windows SharePoint Services Help Search   6.        Delete all the databases associated/related to SSP from SQL Server. 7.        Reset IIS. 8.        Start again following services: ·         Office SharePoint Server Search ·         Windows SharePoint Services Search ·         Windows SharePoint Services Help Search   9.        Restore the new SSP.   After the SSP restoration, all other stuffs had completed very smoothly without any more issues. I did few modifications to sites for change of server name and finally, the new environment was ready.

  I've got Drupal 6 setup within a XAMPP test area. I have LDAP authentication, groups and data working against Active Directory. What I want... is since I'm on an intranet where users are logged in via user-names... is for automatic authentication, without the need to login via the website. If it's more difficult than its worth, it's no major hassle, but I'd like to know if it's possible that when my users visit our intranet they auto-magically authenticate with their already logged in Windows session. Ultimately, I may switch to IIS, but I do like having a portable, easy to backup/copy/test setup so for now I'm going to see if I can get this working in XAMPP.

  Windows 2008 R2 might end up giving me a heart attack at some point. Yesterday I installed and configured UDDI 3.0 as part of an ESB 2.0 install & config.  After configuring UDDI 3.0, if I browsed to the localhost/uddi virtual directory from IIS, all of the links would show up in UDDI.  If opened up IE and went to the UDDI site only the Home and Search links would show up. You've probably already guessed at what the "fix" was... I had to Run IE as Administrator.  Then when I browse to the UDDI site all of the links show up.

• Grapeshot crawler ignoring robots.txt

  Has anyone come across a crawler called Grapeshot? They are hammering the same page repeatedly on our website. I believe they are looking for ad related keywords, based on previous content ad campaigns. The odd thing is we never ran any such campaigns on the page they are so interested in. We do have only a few pages running AdSense, is this what has attracted Grapeshot? I've added the following declaration to my robots.txt, but they don't seem to be honouring it? User-agent: grapeshot Disallow: / Any ideas on how to block this nuisance crawler? I'm starting to think the best way is by setting up IP rules in IIS?

  I would like to start giving unique names to "cache-able" files - i.e. *.css and *.js - in order to prevent caching, without requiring changes to the web-server settings (as is currently done in IIS). For instance, let's I have a JavaScript file called global.js. Going forward I would like it to have the name global.123.js when revision 123 is checked in. This would also require the following: The previous version of the file - perhaps it was global.115.js - is removed when the file is deployed. As virtually all proxy servers are blocked in this country, I've decided to attempt to roll my own encrypted proxy server. Please note, the key word here is encrypted—if the sniffer sees anything like f@c3b00k or w:k:p3d:ia travelling down the wire I'm had. I have a website hosted with GoDaddy (Windows with PHP 5.2 & IIS 7). Is there any way I can set up an encrypted proxy through this service? The pages are already indexed by Google and have the following structure: http://mypage.com/myfolder/page.apsx The new structure is: http://mypage.com/page.aspx Now all URLs that Google knows are wrong. How can I tell Google to re-index and that the structure has changed? Internally I redirect in ASP.NET when the URL contains myfolder by I want Google to update the URLs. Thanks for the answers - I use IIS 6 and I do not know how to configure a redirect of all pages that contains the folder to page one folder below. So I did the trick in the Begin_Request method and did a Context.Response.Redirect. This is no 301 redirect, only a redirect done with ASP.NET via code. Will this also do the trick so that Google notices that the URL /folder/page1.aspx now is redirected to /page1.aspx?

And so far I have html5 code that has a 3 x 3 layout that switches between x and o for the game mechanics. I believe I'm still missing a check for win function but my question is about the server side of this game. I'm not sure how to go about learning what exactly I want. how do you take what I have now, and make this into a functioning online game? • Common reasons for the &lsquo;Sys is undefined&rsquo; error in ASP.NET Ajax applications

    In this blog I will try to summarize the most common reasons for getting the famous 'Sys is undefined' error when running an Ajax enabled web site or application (there are almost one milion results on Google for that phrase). Where does it come from? In every Ajax web pages source you will see a code like this: <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager._initialize('ScriptManager1', document.getElementById('form1')); Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance()._updateControls([], [], [], 90); //]]> </script>   This is the initialization script of the ScriptManager. So, if for some reason the Sys namespace is not available when the code executes you get the Sys is undefined error. Here are the most common reasons and solutions for that problem:   1. The error occurs when you have added a control from RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX, but your application is not configured to use ASP.NET AJAX. For example, in VS 2005 you created a new Blank Site instead of a new Ajax-Enabled Web Site and the Sys is undefined message pops up. To fix it you need to follow the steps described at Configuring ASP.NET Ajax article (check the topic called Adding ASP.NET AJAX Configuration Elements to an Existing Web Site) or simply create the Ajax-Enabled Web Site. You can also check my other blog post on the matter: Visual Studio 2008: Where is the new ASP.NET Ajax-Enabled Web Site template?   2. Authentication - as the website denies access to all pages to unauthorized users, access to the Telerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd handler is unauthorized (this is the default handler of RadScriptManager). This causes the handler to serve the content of the login page instead of the combined scripts, hence the error. To solve it - add a <location> section to the application configuration file to allow access to Telerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd to all users, like: <configuration> ... <location path="Telerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd"> <system.web> <authorization> <allow users="*"/> </authorization> </system.web> </location> ... </configuration>   Note that the access to the standard ScriptResource.axd and WebResource.axd is automatically allowed for all users (authenticated and unauthenticated), so if you use the ScriptManager instead of RadScriptManager - you will not face this problem. The authentication problem does not manifest when you disable script combining or use the CDN. Adding the above configuration section will make it work with RadScriptManagers combined script.   3. The IE6 browser fails to load the compressed script. The problem does not appear in any other browser. There is a well known bug in the older versions of IE6 which lose the first 2,048 bytes of data that are sent back from a Web server that uses HTTP compression. Latest versions of RadScriptManager does not compress the output at all if the client is IE6, but in the previous versions you need to manually disable the output compression to prevent the error. So, if you get the Sys is undefined error in IE6 - update to the latest version of RadControls or simply disable the output compression.   4. Requests to the *.axd files returns Error Code 404 - Not Found. This could  be fixed easily: Check in the IIS management console that the .axd extension (the default HTTP handler extension) is allowed:     Also check if the Verify if file exists checkbox is unchecked (click on the Edit button appearing in the previous screenshot to check). More information can be found in our troubleshooting article and from the ASP.NET QA team blog post   5. The virtual directory in IIS is not marked as Web Application. Converting it to Web Application should fix the problem.   6. Check for the <xhtmlConformance mode="Legacy"/> option in your web.config and remove it. It would be rather rare to become a victim of this exact case, but still have it in mind.
