  I have Hero3+ Black Edition. I can't understand if Protune is for video only or may be applied for photos? The manual says it is both for video and for photo (page 35): High-Quality Image Capture Protune’s high data rate captures images with less compression, giving content creators higher quality for professional productions. Film/TV Rate Standard While shooting in Protune, you have the option of recording video in cinema quality 24 fps to easily intercut GoPro content with other source media without the need to perform fps conversion. But at the same time their site says that Protune is for video only: To record Protune footage, you’ll need to turn Protune ON in your camera’s settings menu. What for is Protune? Photo? Video? Or both?

• Any recommendations on a NAS for a home-super-user?

  Can anyone recommend a good NAS for use in a home-server environment? I would request at least 2, preferably 4 disks, and I am most interested in good to excellent throughput for file-server and backup purposes - don't need any of the fancy media-streaming or -sharing features, that's not of interest to me. For a 4 or more disk solution, support for the various RAID levels (0, 1, 1+0, 5) would be a plus - especially if supported in hardware (rather than just a software emulation). I just need a place to put my collection of data, ISO images, and so forth - and since several external disks (self-built and off-the-shelf) have failed so far, I'm looking into a more reliable solution.   OS: Win7 professional Laptop: latitude e6420 The answer to this question should address how to deploy RAID1 software wise on a dell latitude e6420. I have two Hitachi Z5K500 320GB drives (new). There is one hard drive (320GB capacity) in the system now, which contains the current installation that I would prefer to keep. The drive currently inside the laptop will be replaced with one of the Hitachi drives, and the other Hitachi drive will be fitted into the laptop by way of a Dell hard drive "caddy" enclosure, which inserts into the media bay of the laptop (you remove the cd-rom bay, insert hd-bay).

• Windows 7: blue faces in VLC... sometimes

  There are a bunch of forum posts about this issue from the last several years but no resolution that I could find. I have the newest VLC installed on Windows 7 with the newest nvidia drivers. Suddenly, VLC plays some videos in such a way as faces are blue. When viewed in another media player, or when looking at the thumbnails, this is not an issue. Other videos are not affected. I've tried resetting VLC options, deleting the VLC folder in the AppData area, etc. I have no other color issues. Does anyone have a fix?

• DIrect videos and slideshows fullscreen from another display

  I have 3 displays: 1 control display I can see 2 40" Full HD displays I can't see my need is to play videos and presentations fullscreen on the two 40" screens while being able to control them from the control display. So far I am able to achieve this with a cumbersome set of keyboard shortcuts like: open VLC on control display send to left display with Win + Shift + Left go fullscreen with f and more combinations to restore, get VLC on control display etc. This is really error prone and not professional. Also I wish I have a media player and a slideshow player that can: send the same video / slideshow to the two 40" displays at the same time send two different videos / slideshows, one each 40" display having all controls on the central display, the only one I can see. Any advice welcome, thank you for your support.

• Stretching DIV to 100% height and width of window but not less than 800x600px

  I have a page that needs to stretch and resize with with window and I've managed to do that but I need that the "inner div" (#pgContent) stretch if the window is resized to higher dimensions but that it doesn't shrink more than, let's say for example 800 x 600 px. As I have it now it stretches well but it also shrinks more than I want! It's working as I want in width but not in height!? I ask this given the following situation: You install Windows Server 2012 and setup your storage pools You add disks over time to your pool A year later your drive with the operating system fails You replace the bad drive and reinstall server 2012. • Options to Reformat USB Drive

  I have a 64GB usb thumb drive. When I plug it into a Windows system (I have tried several machines with both Windows 7 and 8), the system attempts to read it and never completes. The drive does not show up in the device manager, nor does it appear in Computer Management - Disk Management. If I click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon, however, I do get an option for "Eject Mass Storage Media", although it never accomplishes anything. Also, as long as the USB drive is connected, I cannot access other USB drives or even restart my computer. It seems as though it locks up Windows Explorer. Is there any option to reformat this drive? It was a great drive up until all this craziness began and I would hate to throw it out because it was rather pricey.

  Hi everyone, this is my question: I'm migrating data from a Btrieve file (.dat) through Pervasive Control Center and there is field type which is defined as integer but is a date and for example the date '31/12/2009' (seen in the legacy system) is view it as the number 733772 when I export it. The legacy system shows the date correctly but I can't export it in the same format or at least I can't convert it. Does anybody know how to convert this number through Excel or something?

  I want to populate span tags for all text nodes between the self closing tags s1 and s2 having the same id.If the transformation of the input to the output form requires the list of ids of the s1 , s2 tag pairs say 1, 2 etc i can assume that it is in place in any form if required.The input can have any structure and not exactly the same as seen in the sample input. It can have any number of s1, s2 tag pairs but each pair will have a unique id. Hope i am clear. How can this be achieved using XSL? • Workstation Build: Single 2.66ghz i-7 with overclock potential, OR Dual 5520 2.26ghz Xeons?

  There are probably better places to ask this, but I am used to the excellent quality of responses on stack overflow. I am rebuilding my desktop in a few months. Aside from normal lightweight internet usage, I use it to run sqlServer, mySql, 1-2 Ubuntu VMs from time to time, lots of IDE's, and a media server for my PS3. The two possible setups cost the exact same amount (within $50) and would both have 12gb 1333mhz ddr3 ram and a 500gb RAID-0 array (250x2). Now, If I go with a single i-7 920 2.66ghz quadcore, I can easily overclock it to 3ghz, and would have cash leftover to get a 160gb ssd (either the ocz vertex or the 120gb intel) for the main OS/Program install drive. Else, I could get a dual lga1366 motherboard with two e5520 Xeon's (2.26ghz),just use the disks I already have. So, do I go for 8 physical/16 virtual cores at 2.26ghz (No overclocking on server boards) with normal disk I/O, or a 4 physical/8 virtual cores at 3.0ghz with really outstanding disk I/O?

• What are my options for booting OSX 10.6 when my DVD drive is broken?

  I'm about to completely re-pave my Mac Mini but the DVD drive has died on me which means I can't boot from the installation media. I know I can boot from a USB stick but I don't have one available, what are my options given the following hardware at hand? Netgear ReadyNAS Duo NAS (NIC or USB only, no Firewire) USB HDD (no Firewire) I've ripped an ISO of the installation disk, can I somehow get the Mini to boot from this image using one of the above? If I decide not to re-pave but just upgrade, can the Mac be upgraded just using an OSX 10.6 ISO image on its disk?

  Im trying to achieve current page highlights on wordpress similar to this site Alex Soth. I'm very nearly there with my css. At present i have current page highlights on pages, ie. home,calendar, projects. However when it come to current page highlights on child pages i have a problem. the indented child page list appears on hover when selecting a child page, but after page selection the menu reverts back to the standard pages menu with no visible child menus? unlike the link to the Alex Soth site where the extended menu stays and current page is highlighted I know that the answer will be a simple piece of css involving current_page_item and possible position:relative to obtain the menu staying visible after selection. But i can for the life of me work it out. • UPS compatible with Linux box?

  I'm buying this unit from deal extreme: it's a bitorrent downloader, with NAS capability. I'm interested in sharing an external HD in it, with media and backup purposes. I'm afraid of energy problems (don't know if this is the correct term), corrupting my mounted drives (like after a storm), so I thought about buying an UPS that sends a "signal" to my Linux box, and a script in my Linux box would unmout everything to avoid problems. Do this "UPS signal" feature exists? Do you have model suggestions? Thanks!

• Moving software RAID to Linux

  I'm using a RAID 1 (mirrored pair) configuration in my Media Center/ NAS system. Currently it's running Windows 8 (yeah, big mistake I know) and I'm regretting it (did it for the games, not worth it). Currently I'm having two software RAID 1s (3TB + 2TB) configured with Storage Spaces and unfortunately formatted with NTFS. Now I would like to switch to Fedora (or maybe Ubuntu if there are advantages) for good. Is there a way that I could continue using the disks as they are without the need to format them with ext or something? I'm glad for every tip. Oh, the system disk is of cause not in a raid configuration.

  I'm playing around with URL schemes in my app. I easily made one to open my app, just adding the necessary items to info.plist. This current URL "myappname://" takes the user to the initial view controller, FirstTableViewController, but I was wondering if it would be possible to modify that URL scheme so it I can have one that takes the user to a certain view controller, such as ThirdTableViewController. I would use this as a handy feature in something like Launch Center.

• SSD RAID 5 or 10?

  I have a few extra SSD drives (I know its rare but this has actually happened). I figured since I have almost 500 GB in SSD's I might as well replace all of my standard HDD's with them. I currently have a RAID 5 setup and enjoy the the speed and redundancy with 10k RPM drives. Should I bother to put my SSD's in RAID 5? I have not heard of anyone doing this and have no idea how it is going to work out. The loss of space doesn't really bother me since I have a 2 TB NAS with all my media on it. Does anyone have experience with putting solid state drives in a RAID 5. If RAID 5 is a bad idea has anyone had experience with a RAID 10? is it possible to stripe the SSD's and provide redundancy with standard HDD's?

• bursty streaming video

  What is the cause and solution for the bursty streaming media problem? Example: when streaming from youtube, audio (and video) will pause and start intermittently. When it starts it will be bursty, that is, it will play several seconds of sound in just a fraction of a second. Normal sounds are rendered unrecognizable. Then it may pause and after a few seconds, resume with another burst. The video seems to burst along with the audio. This was observed on Ubuntu 12.04 with Google Chrome.

• remove/ignore float from outer div

  This may sound weird but i have some css which aligns mys divs. In one place i also use http://www.brunildo.org/test/img_center.html which centers images. Now i want my divs inside a larger div to go to another line if this one gets full. float: left seems to be the answer. The problem is it ruins my formatting. Including solution in the above link. I have this test code. If i remove the width and float it looks fine except it may take up too much space and not go to another line. I was thinking i could use float on an outerdiv and center the image within. However float: left is still breaking it.
