  • Microsoft SQL 2005 - using the modulo operator

    So I have a silly problem, I have not used much MSSQL before, or any SQL for that matter. I basically have a minor mathematical problem that I need solved, and I thought modulo would be good. I have a number of dates in the database, but I need them be rounded off to the closest [dynamic integer] (could be anything from 0 to 5000000) which will be input as a parameter each time this query is called. So I thought I'd use modulo to find the remainder, then subtract that remainder from the date. If there is a better way, or an integrated function, please let me know! What would be the syntax for that? I've tried a lot of things, but I keep getting error messages like integers/floats/decimals can't be used with the modulo operators. I tried casting to all kinds of numeric datatypes. Any help would be appreciated.

    Five+ years from now, you are hired to support and extend a data-centric web application written in Python that hasn't been kept up to date. Would you rather prefer it was written in the current version of Django/Pylons at the time, using the available standard components, or kept minimal with something like CherryPy/web.py and a few library dependencies? Heavy framework Advantages: standard approach to application design and structure, as encouraged by framework; less application code to worry about. Disadvantages: requires learning the framework to understand how things work; broken things in old version of framework difficult to fix; upgrading to new version potentially difficult due to changing APIs; finding relevant documentation/help potentially difficult due to changing APIs. Light framework Advantages: most application code is directly "visible"; only needed features are implemented; architecture should be simpler to understand; less need to upgrade external dependencies; easier to upgrade external dependencies. Disadvantages: some reinventing the wheel; non-standard design and structure (with the associated unique issues and bugs). I will update the list with any helpful answers.

    I know that Silverlight 4 has the support for COM interop via the AutomationFactory class. dynamic excel = AutomationFactory.CreateObject( "Excel.Application" ); excel.Visible = true; Easy. But this creates a separate process for the COM object. What I am missing here is if I am actually able to actually host the office document inside my silverlight application - in a ContentPresenter for example? Thanks in advance.

  • Unable to remove master -> child subform links in microsoft access 2003

    Hi, I am having an issue removing the master - child link fields in an access subreport data form. I have tried every avenue to remove them, using the properties window of the subreport as well as the link wizard. I have also deleted the subreport from the database and then gone as far as re-importing the existing objects into a new access instance. As soon as I re-added the subform back in and name it the same name the link fields show back up. Something is apparently corrupt, but I have run out of ideas at this point on how to clear them. Any Ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Doug

    I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but I honestly have exhausted my self searching for the last hour. I am looking for a quotation made about Microsofts software. It goes something along the lines of: "They may make 2nd grade crappy software, but by God they know how to design interfaces" It was by a somewhat popular open source personality about the lack of good interface design in open source software. Does any one know the exact quotation? It will be a great help if someone can point me in the right direction.

I am actually in process of writing a Pseudo distributed one using python and multiprocessing module and thus wanted to know if someone else has also tried implementing it.     I've worked with T-SQL for years but i've just moved to an organisation that is going to require writing some Oracle stuff, probably just simple CRUD operations at least until I find my feet. I'm not going to be migrating databases from one to the other simply interacting with existing Oracle databases from an Application Development perspective. Is there are tool or utility available to easily translate T-SQL into PL/SQL, a keyword mapper is the sort of thing I'm looking for. P.S. I'm too lazy to RTFM, besides it's not going to be a big part of my role so I just want something to get me up to speed a little faster.

  • Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14' Could not find stored procedure

    I am migrating a classic ASP web app to new servers. The database back end is migrating from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008, and the app is moving from Win2000 x86 to Win2003R2 x64. I am getting the above error on every single stored procedure call within the application. I have verified: Yes, the SQL user is set up, using correct username and password Yes, the SQL user has execute permissions on the stored procedures in the database Yes, I have updated the TypeLib references to the new UUID Yes, I have logged into the database via SSMS with the SQL user id and it can see and execute the stored procedures just fine in SSMS, but not from the web app. Yes, the SQL user has the database set as its default database. The most frustrating thing is it works fine on the DEV server, but not on the production server. I have gone through every IIS setting 5 or 6 times and the web app is set up precisely the same in both environments. The only difference is the database server name in the connection string (DEV vs prod) EDIT: I have also tried pointing the prod web box at the dev database server and get the same error so I'm fairly sure the issue isn't on the database side.

    I'm writing C in Visual Studio 2010. The compiler doesn't seem to want to let me use inline variable declarations. Is there a setting to make the compiler not so strict?

    I am using Unity with MVC and NHibernate. Unfortunately, our UnitOfWork resides in a different .dll and it doesn't have a default empty .ctor. This is what I do to register NHibernate: var connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["jobManagerConnection"].ConnectionString; var assemblyMap = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["assemblyMap"]; container .RegisterType<IUnitOfWork, UnitOfWork>(new ContainerControlledLifetimeManager()); In my WebController I have this: /// <summary>Gets or sets UnitOfWork.</summary> [Dependency] public IUnitOfWork UnitOfWork { get; set; } The problem is that the constructor of UnitOfWork expects 2 mandatory strings. How I can setup the RegisterType for this Interface in order to pass the two parameters retreived from the web.config? Is it possible?

    I have built a simple report and run it successfully in test winform apps but when I try to run the same report in my production winforms application, the report just doesn't show up in the viewer. I look at the ReportViewer control after InitializeComponent and everything looks fine. Are there debugging techniques or gotcha's that might be able to point me to why the report is not showing. It feels like there should be an error of some sort but it just displays a blank form.

  • Using MySQL as data source in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services

    Hi, I have installed the latest .net connector (http://www.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/), I can add MySQL databases as Data Sources, I can even browse through the data from Business Intelligence Studio. The problem is that I CANNOT create a datasource view, or if I do create one without tables, trying to add them after the fact gives me the same error. Specifically it looks like the data source view wizard tries to submit queries against the MySQL database using square brackets/braces, and the query bombs. I get an error message like: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '[my_db].[cheatType]' at line 2 So, in summary, has anyone been able to create a data source view using MySQL tables and, if so, can they please show me how this can be done.   • Compiling OpenSSL for boost asio for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010

    I compiled boost with bjam, and then I compiled OpenSSL. Both of them work separately. I set up the links in Visual Studio 10 to point to my OpenSSL library directory. But when I attempt to compile example boost ssl asio programs I get 44 unresolved external linker errors like this one: 1testing.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _SSLv23_server_method referenced in function "public: void __thiscall boost::asio::ssl::detail::openssl_context_service::create(struct ssl_ctx_st * &,enum boost::asio::ssl::context_base::method)" (?create@openssl_context_service@detail@ssl@asio@boost@@QAEXAAPAUssl_ctx_st@@W4method@context_base@345@@Z) Can you please give me step-by-step instructions on properly linking OpenSSL to boost? After that, I search about BDD (Behavior Driven Development) that focus on specification more than unit testing when compares with TDD (Test Driven Development). I found some framework that work with Ruby and Java. But I do not any famous framework for .NET. Please suggest me about BDD framework and summary PROs/CONs of it. PS.     My ASP.NET application runs in IIS on my web server and uses Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Beta 2. (Its Application Pool is set to .NET Framework version .NET Framework v4.0.21006.) It gives this new error: A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client... This is due to a breaking change in .NET 4. To revert to the behavior of the ASP.NET 2.0 request validation feature, I added the following setting in the Web.config file: <httpRuntime requestValidationMode="2.0" /> Now Visual Studio 2008 throws a compile-time error: The 'requestValidationMode' attribute is not declared. And I can no longer debug on my development machine using the ASP.NET Development Server that comes with Visual Studio. I need Visual Studio and its ASP.NET Development Server to recognize the new .NET Framework 4 requestValidationMode attribute. How can I debug my application in .NET 4? Must I switch from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2?
