  • How to read back and print text with newlines from a Python (Django) string with HTML?

    If someone types in a phrase, such as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. (no blank lines between each line, but the text is written on three separate lines) into a text box on a web page, and then presses a button which is then stored in a database via Django, and that string is read back and printed on a page, how can I get it to print on an HTML page with the newlines still in the text? So instead of it being printed back as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. It would print as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. I know that if I use: (textarea)soAndSo.body(/textarea), this preserves the newlines that were in the file when the user typed it up originally. How can I get this same effect, but without having to use textarea boxes?

  • How to package a single text file into a .deb?

    I'm trying to a make a simple .deb package, which would basically edit a config of another package I listed as a dependency. I added the required manipulations to the postinstall file. The problem is I can't find a way to package an example config, which should be copied and edited from the postinstall script. At the moment I just have a folder with the sample config, of which I'm creating a tar.gz and orig.tar.gz, then dh_make in that folder, edit the generated files and run debuild. However if I open the resulting .deb file with an archive manager, I can see that the sample file was not included at all.

    So I have been looking through some code I wrote a few years ago for an economic simulation program. Each simulation has a large number of settings that can be saved to a file and later loaded back into the program to re-run the same/similar simulation. Some of the settings are optional or depend on what is being simulated. The code to read back the parameters is basically one very large switch statement (with a few nested switch statements). I was wondering if there is a better way to handle this situation.     I would like to know if there is the same feature as in eclipse to automatically generate and print the System.out.println(ClassName::MethodName <then my message>) functionality (which will print the class name and method name for debugging in the console) in Netbeans also. For example, in Eclipse Editor, Typing syst + Ctrl+ Space will auto generate a System.out.println(ClassName::MethodName ) type output in the console. Is such a method available in Netbeans? If I include the following CSS: .right-notice { text-align: right; font-style: italic; color: maroon; } and this cell: <td class=".right-notice">... the contents of the cell are not right aligned. Why is this? What don't I know? If I change the CSS to replace text-align with float, that works. Thanks.
