• Spiceworks SQL Monitor cant authenticate

  I have SpiceWorks 4.7, installed and added the sql monitor extension to monitor our SQL servers. It does identify our sql servers correctly, but when I put the login information in it can't authenticate, with the following error message. Authentication failed. Check the login and password, and ensure that the server is configured for remote connections. I get the same result trying to use windows authentication. WE do use an alternate port# could this be the problem?

  I have a BIND DNS server running on my Windows 7 development machine and I'm serving pages with WAMPSERVER. My ideia is to develop some tools (in PHP) for my intranet at work and I want them to be accessible via LAN in this format: http://tools.mycompany.com I've already placed BIND and I can access http://tools.mycompany.com on the machine that holds BIND server, but I cannot access it from other LAN computers. I've done the following on my router: defined static IP's for all LAN computers set Port Forwarding to my server (remember: it serves DNS and Web pages) set DNS server configuration to point to my LAN server On LAN computers, I went to Local Area Network properties and also changed the DNS server IP in order to point to my local DNS server. • Do certain usb ports work better on my IBM T60?

  Hi. I am using a Microsoft wireless phone ear piece and I have had the receiver plugged into the USB port on the Left Hand side. I have been getting intermittent success with the signal. I have recently tried plugging it in to one of the ports on the top Right Hand side, and it seems that I am getting a better signal. Is there a difference between the ports? Thanks.

• ISS7 authentication doesn't work on servername

  Not sure if I put correct title but here is my problem: Local (home network) IIS 7, default web site bind to any IP on port 81, Anonymous Auth disabled, Windows Auth enabled If I go to 192.168.1.101:81/ I get asked for username and password. If I go to server:81/ nothing is being asked regardless whether connecting from local or another machine on the network. Why is that? Am I doing something wrong?

• Disable USB powered light from command line?

  I have a nice little USB light which has no off switch, it is 'on' for the duration of being plugged in. My question is, is there a way of disabling the USB port so as to turn off the light while it is still plugged in? Preferably, this could be done from the command line, but if it's possible at all that would be really cool regardless. I use Mac and Linux, but am interested to learn if this is possible in any OS, or if physical hardware prevents usage like this.

  There's an article out there, Profiling LAMP Applications with Apache's Blackbox Logs, that describes how to create a log that records a lot of detailed information missing in the common and combined log formats. This information is supposed to help you resolve performance issues. As the author notes "While the common log-file format (and the combined format) are great for hit tracking, they aren't suitable for getting hardcore performance data." The article describes a "blackbox" log format, like a blackbox flight recorder on an aircraft, that gathers information used to profile server performance, missing from the hit tracking log formats: Keep alive status, remote port, child processes, bytes sent, etc. LogFormat "%a/%S %X %t \"%r\" %s/%>s %{pid}P/%{tid}P %T/%D %I/%O/%B" blackbox I'm trying to recreate as much of the format for Nginx, and would like help filling in the blanks. Here's what Nginx blackbox format would look like, the unmapped Apache directives have question marks after their names. access_log blackbox '$remote_addr/$remote_port X? • NGINX load balancer DOS itself

  I have been running a load balancing machine for a number of months now which has had no problems in the past. I got woken up to some downtime and I am seeing this a lot in syslog: TCP: Possible SYN flooding on port 80. Sending cookies. At which point Nginx takes up 100% of the cpu and doesn't come back down to normal for several minutes. I have it running on Ubuntu currently but I also was able to replicate on Debian 6.

Recently I managed to install Opera Mini on the XP and the opera approach of compressing the data helped a lot. • Using Folder Redirection GPO and Offline Files and Folders

  I want to use Folder Redirection to redirect user's My Documents to a network share. First question is: What is best practices for mapping the drive? Should I use the profile tab in AD with the %username% variable, or a net use logon script, or something else? Second question is: How do I deal with laptops and syncing the network with the local storage? I want to have 2-way syncing so if they manually map their networked home drive and edit it from a different computer, it will sync the newer version to their My Documents folder the next time they connect their normal work computer. I also want to be sure that if they edit a file offline on their laptop while away from the office, that the network version syncs the changes the next time they connect that laptop. Please advise best practices for this scenario in a 2008 R2/Win7 environment. I am also interested in Mac clients for this environment, and while I am very Mac savvy, I would like to hear what others consider to be best practices for Mac network homedirs in a Win environment.
