• Missing the "add tab group to favorites " option in IE8

  I have internet options selected for quick tabs and tab groups in settings, IE8 WIndows XP. I can open a list of favorites from the menu using the blue arrow as a tab group. I can then use the quick tabs button to show the groups open. However, I do not have the "add tab group to favorites" option in the pull down menu for favorites at the Favorite Bar. Is this a Vista feature only? I just checked two of my Vista basic machines SP2, one also does NOT have the option. The laptop DOES have the option.

  For a website, you need to have an idea, you need to have a design and you need to have data, events and output, right? Whether it be a blog, web app, Q&A site, search engine... Anyway, that is only slightly related to my question. My question is, when designing a website, providing I know the purpose, what should I start with? Should I start with the CSS, design and look&feel using dummy data first, or should I program in the logic, events and output, and style it later? What is the design process of most websites that are built from the ground up?

• What should someone learn to become a great web-app builder by 2015

  My brother just started learning some html/css at school and he loves it. He asked me to give my advice on what languages to learn in order to build great web-apps by the time he leaves school. (2015 or something like that.) I did some research, and right now I want to tell him (in this particular order): HTML - HTML5 CSS - CSS3 Javascript - jQuery - AJAX PHP - Zend Framework MySQL Ruby - RoR I would like to know if this is correct before I waste his time. • Creating User Generated Subdomains

  Hi there, The company I work for is close to being finished with our first web app and we recently made the decision to offer hosting for our smaller customers. (We provide software to lending companies and our larger customers are required to buy redundant servers to host their application). What we are trying to work out right now is how to create user generated subdomains that will hold a new instance of the software. So a user will be able to sign up and say that the company name is XYZ Credit once they click on the create account button a url of xyzcredit.ourcompanyname.com is created and the user is redirected to it. The servers that we want to use are running CentOS 5.5 and Virtualmin 3.83. Thank you for your help, Nick

• Email forwarding to gmail accounts instead of maintaining a mail server?

  I want to set up 4-5 email addresses on my newly purchased domain(from namecheap.com), for team size of just 2-3 people. But I really don't want to maintain my own mail server(don't have the experience as well as want to avoid the expenses involved, may be I could have kept the mail server alongside my webapp on the web server, but I would avoid). So I came across a workaround option to forward the emails. Thus I could setup email forwarding from namecheap's management console to my free gmail accounts. So all my emails would come to gmail account, convenient & familiar interface as well free. Are there any serious drawbacks of this approach ?

Currently we are using Cloudflare (Business) and it's great, except that our website is crushing for around 1 minute every 2 hours on average, and it seems they don't like to give us support.   I am working on a web-based application which combines elements of what my client would call a CMS (content management system) and CRM (customer relations management) but also adds in many other business-specific features such as bookings management, staff task allocation management, wages calculations, document version control etc. However, I'm struggling to find a catch-all term for this type of application so I can research how other people have gone about creating such an integrated solution. Can anyone recommend a term I can use to refer to this, both internally in our team, for the client so they know what to call the 'system' and also for me personally, so that I can ask the Stack community further questions?

• Cannot access my own web page

  I am developing, learning and experimenting with php,html,javascript,flash and so on. Having web hosting and all of the cpanel, phpmyadmin and other utilities. One day, while updating information, connection between my computer and website just went down. I found out that it is only from this computer, where I cannot access anything. I don't know what is the reason I cannot access website, however this is what I have checked so far: Everything else opens normally, having problem only with my page. Cannot access FTP,cpanel or any kind of information related to the domain and hosting ipconfigs detects IP, but shows request timed out (so its not browser related) Turned off Firewall,AV, Rebooted computer Cleared caches,temp,cookies,histry with CCleaner Checked connectivity with both (wired,wireless) networks ISP has dynamic IP that has been changed about 3 times since issue Checked host file I am out of ideas and understanding what could cause this kind of issue, however couple minutes ago, found out that everything works with proxy server (when adding IP and port to the browsers) Can someone point out what should I check or try to get rid of this problem?

  I am working on a project where we would like to have build a web interface that gives the user the ability to "Google" files in a directory in a remote machine. For example, the user would type a string in a box, and then the system would find all files that contain that string and present them in the browser. The system would then give the user the ability click on any of the files to open them/display them in the browser. We want to avoid reinventing the wheel if possible, but don't really know where to start (none of us in the team have much experience building websites).   I have some minor messaging connection to server from website via json requests. I have single endpoint which distributes requests according to identification data. I am using asynchronous server and handle data when it comes. Now I am thinking about extending requests with some kind of session. What is the best way to define session? Get cookie when registered and use token as long as session runs with each request? Should I implement timeout for token? Is there alternative methods? Can I cache tokens to same origin requests? What could I use on client side (Web browser)? How about safety? What techniques I should use to throw away requests with malformed data, to big data, without choking server down? Should I worry?

  I have updated to Windows 8 and got Internet Explorer 10, but I don't get the full screen mode, is just like another desktop app. All links on the Windows Store Apps (Bing, News...) redirect to the old desktop and open my default browser (chrome). I have set IE as default browser but that not solve the problem. I have been looking on the IE10 options but I don't see this option. How can I solve this? • Very frequent "Server not found" messages

  Recently, while browsing and clicking or typing an address, I get: "Server not found", "Connection was reset", or a half-loaded page. Usually the page loads instantly after clicking reload, but this means I must reload on every page. Images on one site, but stored at a different server don't load until reloading for a second time. Clicking "submit" on many sites frequently doesn't work unless I reload many times. Sometimes sites load, but without colors and formating, appearing as if they would in Lynx. This seems to happen with every Web site. My Internet service claims everything on their end is fine. This happened a day after running an update in aptitude. I have not updated any hardware. I have tried clearing Iceweasel's cache. I do not have any router or other equipment. What could be going on? How can I troubleshoot this? PPPoE connection, Iceweasel 3.5.16, Debian 6

• reading parameters and files on browser, looking how to execute on server

  I have a site done in Rails, which uses javascript to load files and generate forms for the user to input certain information. Those files and parameters are then to be used in a fortran code on the server. When the UI was on the server (using Qt), I would create a parameters file and execute the fortran code using threads so I wouldn't block the computer. Now that is web-based, I need to make the server and browser talk. What's the procedure for that? where should I start looking? I'm already using rails + javascript. I need that extra tool to do the talking, and no idea where to start.

  I am based in the UK, and as such typically use google.co.uk as my search engine. However, my employer is based in continental Europe, and thus my internet proxy is located overseas. As a result, IP geo-location presents a location outside of the UK. Google detects this, and as a result will redirect my searches from the address bar to a foreign Google domain. This leads to "local" answers having a higher ranking, many of which are not written in English language! Is there a specific search provider / URL I can give to IE which will use a specific gTLD of google (.co.uk), rather than performing the location-based redirect?

  I was wondering what web browsers exist for Ubuntu; I don't want to use wine. I just want the ones written for Ubuntu. I know about Firefox and Google Chrome, you don't need to add them as answers. I've never liked the Ubuntu software center because it never has all of the programs that I might want to install and therefore it's not perfect. I just want a list of all the browsers for Ubuntu and what's the point of them. Example: Firefox: open source, and is pre-installed. • Using a Token-ring network card instead of a router (?)

  I have cable, and the modem only has 1 network plug-in. They said I could buy my own router if I wanted to hook up two computers to it. I have an IBM Turbo 16/4 Token-Ring PC Card 2, which was in the laptop when I bought it, and the laptop also has the typical network plug (not a PC Card). Is there a way I could run the laptop as a server, and plug my desktop into the laptop, so they both have internet without my having to buy a router? (I realize routers are as cheap as $30.) Both computers run Windows XP Pro SP3. (I also have an 10/100 Etherjet Cardbus card (PC Card)). Thanks.

  What I'm trying to do: Connect to the internet without registering But! Here's my problem: I can't connect. I used to be able to, now when I try to connect it says "Server not found." I can connect just fine on my other Laptop. I did a test as well. I used a LAN USB adapter and could connect fine, then now I can't connect again. • Can it be a good idea to create a new table for each client of a webapp?

  This is semi-hypothetical, and as I've no experience in dealing with massive database tables, I have no idea if this is horrible for some reason. On to the situation: Imagine a web based application - lets say accounting software - which has 20,000 clients and each client has 1000+ entries in a table. That's 20 million rows which I know can certainly slow down complex queries. In a case like this, does it make more sense to create a new table in the database for each client? How do databases react to having 20k (or more!) tables?

  I got a hosting account at HOSTGATOR. it was a shared account and i had three websites present over there. now, i have upgraded my account to VPS at HOSTGATOR and i want to transfer only ONE website over the new VPS. say, mydom.net. this website includes wordpress installation and other custom pages and setup can somebody please guide me How can I transfer the web to my new account? with speed, accuracy, and such that my website remains in working condition.. what will I do about wordpress? simply copy it will work?(I dont thnk so), if not how can I move it? • Desktop GUI Client - Remote RDBMS communication

  Sorry if I am asking a trivial question but I have been searching for a while without any luck. I need to design a system and I am looking for advice on the technology that should be used. The layout is very simple: it is a sales application with a centralized database and multiple clients. Each salesperson has GUI app installed on his/her laptop that should be able to connect to the database to retrieve data and upload data (i.e. register new orders). My question is the following: how should the communication between the client and the server be implemented? I doubt that connecting directly to the RDBMS is a good idea... Should I use web-services? XML-RPC? How to implement authentication and encode the data? Thanks for your advice!
