• Membership Provider Parte 1

  Asp.net ha sido una de las tecnologías creadas por Microsoft de mas rápido crecimiento por la facilidad para los desarrolladores de crear sitios web. Una de las partes de mayor importancia que tiene asp.net es el contar con el Membership Provider o proveedor de Membrecía, que permite la creación, manejo y mantenimiento de un sistema completo de control y autenticación de usuarios. Para dar inicio a la serie de post que escribiré sobre que es Membeship y cuáles son las funcionalidades principales daremos unas definiciones. Tal como se menciono anteriormente con el membership provider podemos crear un sistema de control de usuarios completos, entre las funcionalidades principales podemos encontrar: * Creación de usuarios * Almacenamiento de información en base de datos * Autenticación, bloqueos y seguimiento Otras de las ventajas que cabe resaltar, es que, algunos de los controles de asp.net ya traen "naturalmente" en sus funciones la implementación del membership provider, tal como el control "Login" o los controles de estado de usuario, lo cual nos permite que con solo arrastrarlos al diseñador estén funcionando. Membership provider es poderoso, pero su funcionalidad y seguridad se ven aumentadas cuando se integra con otros proveedores de asp.net como lo son RoleProvider y Profile Provider (estos los discutiremos en otros post). En la siguiente figura, podemos ver como se distribuyen algunoS provider creados por Microsoft Antes de iniciar con la implementación de membership debes conocer cosas básicas como el espacio de nombres al que pertenece, el cual es: System.Web.Security que se encuentra dentro del ensamblado System.Web. Algo que debe tomarse en cuenta, es que, para poder utilizar cualquiera de los miembros de la clase, debemos hacer la referencia respectiva. Por defecto, el membership provider está diseñado para trabajar directamente con SQL Server, de ahí que su nombre completo seria SQL Membership Provider. Sin embargo, debido a su gran flexibilidad podemos extenderlo a cualquier base de datos o bien modificarlo para adapatarlo a nuestras necesidades. En los siguientes posts, discutiremos como crear un proveedor personalizado utilizando Entity Framework, separando las capas de acceso y datos y cuáles son las principales funciones que podemos aplicar. • Local file system not properly unmounted during shutdown

  I have a file system with two HDDs and several partitions mounted separately locally. /root, /home, /usr, /var, /local/share , /home/bernhard/fotos/bilder, /backup are on separate partitions and are all ext3. During unmounting the message "unmounting local file system" does not appear any further and when booting all partitions but the root partition have to reload the journal, which indicates improper unmounting. The root partition and /usr are on sda, the others on sdb or further usb-mounted devices. the only partition unmounted w/o problem seems to be the root partition on sda4. I wonder whether the script to umount all devices has a "wait for success" loop or that the script itself got corrupted. However, yesterday I upgraded to 11.04 and the error persists. pmount does not look to be appropriate since the device are not hotplugged but simply mounted during system start. Obviously mounting /usr and afterwards /usr/local/share as well as /home and later /home/bernhard/fotos/bilder presents problems for umount; the devices may be busy und thus not properly unmounted. Does anybody have an idea for a script to organize unmounting in an ordered way? How to wait for unmounting of the secondary mount? Do you know as well where to place such a script that it will be used instead of the original umount command? Could be a general solution.

• django & postgres linux hosting (with SSH access) recommendations

  We're looking for a good place to host our custom Django app (a fork of OSQA) and its postgresql backend. Requirements include: Linux Python 2.6 or (ideally) Python 2.7 Django 1.2 Postgres 8.4 or later DB backup/restore handled by the hoster, not us OS & dev-platform-stack patching/maintenance handled by the hoster, not us SSH access (so we can pull source code from GitHub, so we can install python eggs, etc.) ability to set up cron jobs (e.g. to send out dail email updates) ability to send up to 10K emails/day good performance (not ganged up with a zillion other sites on one CPU, not starved for RAM) FTP or SCP access to web logs dedicated public IP SSL support Costs under $1000/month for a relatively small site (<5M pageviews/month) Good customer service We already have a prototype site running on EC2 on top of a Bitnami DjangoStack. The problem is that we have to patch the OS, patch postgres, etc. We'd really prefer a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering, like Heroku offers for Rails apps, where all we need to worry about is deploying our code instead of worrying about system software patching and maintenance. Google App Engine is closest to what we're looking for, but they don't offer relational DB access (not yet at least). Anyone have a recommendation?

• Workaround for an Xcode/iOS SDK Issue...

  Hi, everyone: When you are doing ADF Mobile development, and you need to deploy the application to an iOS device, you would need to compile/deploy the app with iOS App Certificates and Provisioning Profile. This means you would need to "Deploy to Package" or "Deploy to iTunes" during deployment, and configure JDeveloper with the proper certificates/profiles. In some instances (exact combination is still not clear), deploy and signing the application to generate the ipa file may fail with similar error message at the end of the deployment log: [01:04:45 PM] Deployment failed due to one or more errors returned by '/usr/bin/xcrun'. The following is a summary of the returned error(s): Command-line execution failed (Return code: 1) error: /usr/bin/codesign --force --preserve-metadata=identifier,entitlements,resource-rules --sign iPhone Distribution: Oracle Corporation --resource-rules=/var/folders/x7/21sjrpx13qj9tq20z14s3j_w0000gn/T/tkROhP11qU/Payload/HelloWorld.app/ResourceRules.plist --entitlements /var/folders/x7/21sjrpx13qj9tq20z14s3j_w0000gn/T/tkROhP11qU/entitlements_plistEINPBkIG /var/folders/x7/21sjrpx13qj9tq20z14s3j_w0000gn/T/tkROhP11qU/Payload/HelloWorld.app failed with error 1. Next time you run Visual Studio you will notice that the home page has a check mark in the video “Using Code Review to improve quality”. If you navigate to code review in the myWork hub in the team explorer, you will notice that the link “Streaming Video: Using Code Review to improve quality” does not show up any more.         2. • Show USB drives in launcher, but not mounted internal partitions

  Well the title pretty much says it all. I have partitions that appear in the launcher when the system mounts them, just like when a USB key is plugged in. I do not want these mounted internal hard disc partitions to show as icons in the launcher, but I do want my external USB to show there when I plug it in. I've tried MyUnity - it has only an option to not show/hide all mounted devices, which is not what I want. Can this be done? Data Continuity Checklist: Disaster Recovery Plan/Policy Backups Redundancy Trained Staff Business Continuity Policies In order to protect data in case of any emergency a company needs to put in place a Disaster recovery plan and policies that can be executed by IT staff to ensure the continuity of the existing data and/or limit the amount of data that is not contiguous.  A disaster recovery plan is a comprehensive statement of consistent actions to be taken before, during and after a disaster, according to Geoffrey H. Wold. He also states that the primary objective of disaster recovery planning is to protect the organization in the event that all or parts of its operations and/or computer services are rendered unusable. Furthermore, companies can mandate through policies that IT must maintain redundant hardware in case of any hardware failures and redundant network connectivity incase the primary internet service provider goes down.  Additionally, they can require that all staff be trained in regards to the Disaster recovery policy to ensure that all parties evolved are knowledgeable to execute the recovery plan. • Linux distro for software development support?

  I've spent too much time on setup & maintain a development server, which contains following tools: Common services like SSH, BIND, rsync, etc. Subversion, Git. Apache server, which runs CGit, Trac, Webmin, phpmyadmin, phppgadmin, etc. Jetty, which runs Archiva and Hudson. Bugzilla. PostgresSQL server, MySQL server. I've created a lot of Debian packages, like my-trac-utils, my-bugzilla-utils, my-bind9-utils, my-mysql-utils, etc. to make my life more convenient. However, I still feel I need a lot more utils. And I've spent a lot of time to maintain these packages, too. I think there maybe many developers doing the same things. As tools like subversion, git, trac are so common today. It's not to hard to install and configure each of them, but it took a long time to install them all. And it's time consuming to maintain them. Like backup the data, plot the usage graph and generate web reports. (gitstat for example) So, I'd like to hear if there exist any pre-configured distro for Development Server purpose, i.e., something like BackTrack for hackers?

• Ubuntu 12.04 does not suspend with proprietary driver for Radeon 6800

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 (though these issues have existed in previous releases too) and have a Radeon 6800 graphics card. I've run into issues with the open-source driver (the system would randomly hang when shutting down) so I switched to the proprietary driver (I compiled it myself using these instructions), but I am having new problems now. The main issue is that when I go into sleep mode, about 50-75% of the time, the screen goes black but the monitor does not actually shut off, and I can hear that the fans/hard drive are not suspending either. I can't get the computer to wake up (Ctrl+Alt+F1,2,3,etc. does not work), and I always end up force shutting down with the power button. I'd really appreciate help! • Fun Upgrading to .Net 4.0

  We are currently in the process of upgrading one of our applications to .Net 4.0. Aside from us geeks wanting to always use latest and greatest technologies, an immediate business need for Silverlight 4.0 features justified our upgrade endeavor. The following is a summary of some issues we ran into with our web project:   For security purposes, the IIS 7 .Net 4.0 ISAPI filter is disabled. “Allow” it from the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions screen as shown:   Figure 1 - Allowing ASP.Net 4.0 ISAPI Filter   By default the Web Setup Project only requires the .Net Framework 4 Client Profile to be installed on target system, which offers a lighter weight install for client machines consuming .Net 4.0 applications.   I created websites for many years but still have not found the right way to organize all the email and social accounts of every clients. I mean, every web agency follows dozens of customers. Each client needs at least Google Analytics, AdWords, a Facebook page, a Twitter profile, a Youtube channel, probably a listing on Google Places and maybe a Mail Chimp (or similar) account. The web agency, in my opinion, must own these accounts, use them to deliver results to the customer and -of course- make them available to the customer for two reasons: - The customer must be able to see how things are going - The client must have the ability to change web agency without suffering The web agency, however, has many problems in having all of these accounts. For example, I like the idea of having a Gmail account for each client and from that account use all the products of Google. But is not possible to create more than many Gmail account from the same ip address and with the same phone number. The web agency could invite the customer to create his own accounts but: - This is not necessary a value for the customer (indeed...) - The web agency would manage them, however, from the same ip address, incurring in problems - If phone verification occurs, the web agency has to disturb the customer for verification Have you the same problem? • From TFS to Git

  I'm a .NET developer and I've used TFS (team foundation server) as my source control software many times. Good features of TFS are: Good integration with Visual Studio (so I do almost everything visually; no console commands) Easy check-out, check-in process Easy merging and conflict resolution Easy automated builds Branching Now, I want to use Git as the backbone, repository, and source control of my open source projects. My projects are in C#, JavaScript, or PHP language with MySQL, or SQL Server databases as the storage mechanism. I just used github.com's help for this purpose and I created a profile there, and downloaded a GUI for Git. Up to this part was so easy. But I'm almost stuck at going along any further. I just want to do some simple (really simple) operations, including: Creating a project on Git and mapping it to a folder on my laptop Checking out/checking in files and folders Resolving conflicts That's all I need to do now. But it seems that the GUI is not that user friendly. I expect the GUI to have a Connect To... or something like that, and then I expect a list of projects to be shown, and when I choose one, I expect to see the list of files and folders of that project, just like exploring your TFS project in Visual Studio. Then I want to be able to right click a file and select check-in... or check-out and stuff like that. Do I expect much? What should I do to easily use Git just like TFS? What am I missing here?

  I see reports of people with Unity broken after upgrading to 13.10. In my case Unity works fine but cinnamon is broken. It opens the startup applications but no window manager, no menus and the keyboad shortcuts won't work. As a consequence I can't even log out or shut down cleanly.
