  • Which hardware for using Vs.NET 2008/2010 decently ?

    (Hope to be non OT) Hi, i'm a little exasperated about running vs.net 2008 on an acer aspire with an intel t2350. I know, this hardware is not the "last" and the best we can find on the market. So i'm thinking to buy a new notebook. For your experience, which type of processor i can buy ? I found, here in italy, acer notebook between 350-500 euros with t4400 and 2-3 gb ram. Is it enough to have a good "working experience" with vs (with good i intend not to wait 10-20 seconds when i switch from asp.net design to asp.net source code) ? Any answer is appreciated

  • Sharepoint 2010 search: How to modify search query before submit (programmatically?)

    Hi, I'm making a custom search box Web Part, similar to the OOTB Web Part from SharePoint (SearchBoxEx class). I'm interested in modifying the search query with additional text before it is submitted, based on a custom checkbox added on the Web Part. Any help on how I can achieve this? UPDATE: I've used the AppendToQuery and AppQueryTerms properties, but this will rewrite the text in the search box as well. I'm interested in passing the values "in the background", maybe as an extra parameter. Point is that the query modification should happen without the user seeing it explicitly.

Vacation used is always applied against the oldest vacation earned amount first. We need to return the rows for Vacation Earned that have not been offset by vacation used. If vacation used has only offset part of a vacation earned record, we need to return that record showing the difference. For example, using the above table, the result set would look like: |ID|EmployeeID|Date |Category |Hours| |1 |1 |1/1/2010 |Vacation Earned|1.0 | |4 |2 |5/18/2010|Vacation Earned|1.0 | Note that record 2 was eliminated because it was completely offset by used time, but records 1 and 4 were only partially used, so they were calculated and returned as such. The only way we have thought of to do this is to get all of the vacation earned records in a temporary table. Then, get the total vacation used and loop through the temporary table, deleting the oldest record and subtracting that value from the total vacation used until the total vacation used is zero. We could clean it up for when the remaining vacation used is only part of the oldest vacation earned record. This would leave us with just the outstanding vacation earned records. This works, but it is very inefficient and performs poorly. Also, the performance will just degrade over time as more and more records are added. Are there any suggestions for a better solution, preferable set based? If not, we'll just have to go with this.

    I create a SL4 Application and then I say I want to create a MVC site in addition. But instead of create a VIEW and putting showing the SL4 object there and creating a empty MVC type Default page... it just creates a SilverlightApplicationTestPage.aspx in the root! Does anyone know any small sample code anywhere that shows how to set up various .xap files within a MVC app. It should be simple. (I want to put the MVC2 app into Azure once I get this working)

  • What's the current (as of April 2010) state of affairs regarding <object> vs <embed> in HTML?

    The age old question. <object> vs <embed>. From what I gather, <object> is the XHTML-compliant way of doing things, while <embed> is for legacy support. I'm currently building a Flash application that will contain a pre-made embedding code for users to copy and paste, and I'm wondering if it's feasible to simply dump the <embed> tag altogether. Which browsers would be unable to load my application if I gave my users an <object>-only embed code? Thanks :)

    I can delete a user from a site collection, but I can't seem to delete a user totally from SharePoint. For example: Let's say DOMAIN\joetest has a user ID of 15. I can delete that account from the site collection (via web gui or powershell), but the next time that account is ensured the ID is still 15. Is there a way to totally delete a user from SharePoint? So, the next time the account is ensured it has a new ID (say 150 instead of 15). Is that even possible.

    There are many times when I need to test a little snippet of .net code but rebuilding and publishing the entire project or writing a suite of unit tests just seems like overkill. For example, I am writing a regular expression right now and I want to see if it the pattern is matching on the right parts. I could go and find a million other utilities that do that sort of thing, but that is not exactly my point. FireBug has an exact analogue to what I want - the FireBug console. There is a text box where the user can enter some JavaScript and FireBug will execute it on the spot and display the return value. I would love to be able to enter something like (new Regex("b+")).Replace("abc", "x") and see the results without having to do all the overhead. Does VS have anything like this?

  • Best way to do client/server validation in ASP.NET in 2010?

    First there was the ASP.NET validators and we used them... Then some people on the team did things manually in javascript... Then a bunch of jquery validation libraries came out... Then MVC2 came out with attributes as validators.. I work with apps that have alot of forms with alot of various validation (Some fields needs to be compared with other values in a DB so a postball/ajax call is required) .. Right now I have a mess of ASP.NET custom validators and functions that calculate on the server side as well. Can I get some opinions on the best tool/combination to approach this job that can create the smallest/most elegant code? Pure server side solution? AJAX/Jquery? A certain plugin for jquery? For example, I have 2 dates.. I want to make sure that the 1st date is less than the 2nd date... Are there jquery validators that encapsulate this? My feeling is if I can get jquery plugins to handle half the more basic validation for my that could cut my code in half.

    We have an Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition installation (10.2.0.1.0) on a Windows Server 2003 virtual machine. It was initially created with Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 but has now been migrated to Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. The services start on system boot, but the instance does not start up.   • Multiple PHP SAPI configuration

    I'm trying to build PHP for use as an apache shared module --with-apxs2 but also with the 'php-cgi' binary (fastcgi) on Mac OSX 10.6. I'm using this ./configure : /configure --prefix=/usr/local/PHP \ --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs \ --disable-ipv6 \ --enable-cgi \ --with-curl \ --with-mysqli=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config \ --with-openssl=/usr \ --enable-ftp \ --enable-shared \ --enable-soap \ --enable-sockets \ --enable-zip \ --with-zlib-dir It builds the apache php5.so module just fine, but in /usr/local/PHP/bin, there is no php-cgi file. If I build it without the --with-apxs2 option (and indeed, I don't even need the --enable-cgi option) the php-cgi file gets built with no problems. Background on my setup: PHP 5.3.4, Apache 2.2.14, Mac OSX 10.6, Tomcat with JavaBridge (which is why I need the php-cgi file) Without the apxs2 option, /usr/local/php/bin/php -v produces: PHP 5.3.4 (cli) (built: Dec 21 2010 21:35:14) Copyright (c) 1997-2010 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies and /usr/local/php/bin/php-cgi -v produces: PHP 5.3.4 (cgi-fcgi) (built: Dec 21 2010 21:35:12) Copyright (c) 1997-2010 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies My question is, what am I not understanding with php SAPIs that won't allow the building of the two modules at the same time?   • Apache Logs - Not Showing Requested URL or User IP

    Hey all, I'm having a problem with a server that keeps falling over. Looking through the Apache error logs it appears to come from a rogue PHP script. I'm trying to track this down using Apache's error_log and access_log but the server log format isn't giving me the detail I need. I suspect the log format isn't sufficient, but I've reviewed the Apache documentation and I've included the switches that I think I need to see. Here's my LogFormat configuration in the httpd.conf file: `LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %s %b %U %q %T \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\"" extended CustomLog logs/access_log extended` Using the %U %q %T switches I expected to see the requested URL, query string, and the time it took to serve the request, but I'm not seeing any of this information when I tail the log.     I have CentOS 5 installed on my server. I'm in VPS server. I have site where I have constant online ~150. First look on site looks OK. But when I go through links, sometimes I receive Out of memory PHP error. It looks like this Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 36962304) (tried to allocate 7680 bytes) in /home/host/public_html/sites/all/modules/cck/modules/fieldgroup/fieldgroup.install on line 100 And always, not allocated memory is very small. In average I have 30% CPU load, 25% RAM load. So I think here is not a physical memory problem. My PHP memory limit was set to 1500MB.   • Successful login with iscsiadm on target still doesn't create block device

    I've set up an experiment to test iscsitarget and initiator, which at some point worked. Later, I turned the setup back on and much to my dismay, the initiator machine stopped making block devices for its successful logins. As far as I know, I haven't changed anything on either machine. The problem also occurs when stopping and restarting the OracleServiceORCL service. Right now I have a horrible hack where I've created a Scheduled Task to run oradim -startup -sid ORCL when the Administrator account logs on, and set the VM to auto-logon. I'd still like to work out why it's not working.

    Hello, I'm getting the error "Invalid URI: The format of the URI could not be determined" when customizing it. I've made several changes to the configuration files and UI, but I keep getting this error. It isn't logging it too in the event log nor the log files, which makes it very annoying to debug. So how do I figure out where the error is coming from? Is it with the URL that's pointing to the ReportServer2005.asmx file, or something else?
