• Help with inner content box margins/padding

  I am working on a layout for a new site, and I'm having some trouble achieving what I want with the CSS. First of all, I want everything to always stay within the view of the current browser window, with scroll being in my content and not the browser itself. I have an outermost DIV which acts as my "wrapper" for the site displayed centered, with a set width, and having 100% height of the bowser window. Inside of this I place a header and all of this works as intended in all interested browsers. However, once I place my actual content DIV inside this "wrapper" I am unable to define it to be the size I want. If I simply give it margins or padding to make up for the header I have absolutely positioned, the content will overflow and I can't set scroll. And if I try to set the size directly, there are no values I can put in that will work since the margins/padding will add to the size and it will now be bigger than the current browser window, and overflow. Are there any styles people can think of I can use on the wrapper/content DIV(s) to get the desired look? Here is a diagram illustrating the look I want.

• How can I get a 302 redirection URL's Location header in PHP?

  I am trying to find a universal way to expand most if not all of the shortened URLs out there. I know short URLs such as bit.ly, TinyURL, goo.gl, etc use the 302 redirection method to redirect you to another site. How can I make a HEAD request to the shortened URL in php and get the "Location" part of the header? Please help me with this. Thanks

• Ignoring hover style in inside image

  I want the style to apply on the "a" elements, and not the img. Here's an example: a:hover {background: #555;} I tried to do something like this: a:hover img {background: none;} though I knew it's not going to do anything. The solution I found in this question didn't work for me, because the "display: none" is moving the image when hovering.

  I basically need to highlight a particular word in a block of text. For example, pretend I wanted to highlight the word "dolor" in this text: <p> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. </p> <p> Quisque bibendum sem ut lacus. Integer dolor ullamcorper libero. Aliquam rhoncus eros at augue. • Is there a JS diff library against htmlstring just like google-diff-match-patch on plain text?

  Currently I am using google-diff-match-patch to implement a real-time editing tool, which can synchronize texts between multiple users. Everything works great when operations are only plain texts, each user's operation(add/delete texts) could be diff-ed out by comparing to old text snapshot with the helper of google-diff. But when rich format texts(like bold/italic) are involved, google-diff not working well when comparing the htmlstring. The occurrence of character of < and > messed up the diff results, especially when bold/italic format are embedded within each other. Could anyone suggest a similar library like google-diff to diff htmlstrings? Or any suggestions can get my problem fixed with google-diff? I understood google-diff is designed for plain text, but really didn't find a better library than it so far, so it also works if a doable enhancement to google-diff can help. Thanks for any comments. How do I stop that? While also, making sure that it shows in the top left corner of each of the boxes on all browser sizes? So position:absolute will keep it in one place regardless of what happens around it. But it won't put it in the exact same position (relatively) on diff browser sizes. But position:relative will. How do I get the best of both worlds?

• Quick question regarding CSS sprites and memory usage

  Well, it's more to do with images and memory in general. If I use the same image multiple times on a page, will each image be consolidated in memory? Or will each image use a seperate amount of memory? I'm concerned about this because I'm building a skinning system for a Windows Desktop Gadget, and I'm looking at spriting the images in the default skin so that I can keep the file system looking clean. At the same time I want to try and keep the memory footprint to a minimum. If I end up with a single file containing 100 images and re-use that image 100 times across the gadget I don't want to have performance issues. Cheers.

• IE7 left:%; bug

  I'm working on a project, I use the latest IETester, and I bumped into a IE7 specific alignment bug. view this in IE7 and then in any other browser, for example Firefox, IE8 and even IE6. Notice how the little "|" between the lower links is not visible in IE7, yet it looks fine in the other browsers. Removing the left:-100%; from on line 61 fixes the bug as seen here, but i need this "left" for positioning. Any help on what is causing this bug, or potential ideas on how to fix it much needed.

  Hi there. I am writing a WWW application, it has to run under IE. I have the problem with the code that runs under FF, but i can't get it running under IE. // JS code function test() { if (window.event.keyCpde == 13) window.location.href.ssign("myPage.php"); } I've tried some similar ways around window.location and location.href, also document.location. I've read that IE has problems with that, so i ask for a solution. The goal is, that page reloads after typing in some text into <input type='text' name='item_code' onKeyDown='test()'> and click enter. So the result is similar to pressing submit type button below the text input. Within IE it reloads the same page and nothing happens. In FF it correctly works.

• Customizing the Superfish drop-down menu

  I've been tinkering around with the excellent Superfish drop-down menu to fit my needs. Here's the result. Still, there are two oddities I need to fix. Since I changed the font family and font size used for the items in the menu bar, the drop-down menus are aligned incorrectly a few pixels lower than where they should be. Secondly, when I hover over a menu item that has a submenu, an arrow to the right is displayed but it's not as visible as it should be due to the light background color. Can I change this quickly without making a new arrow image?

• CSS UL removing indent in IE

  See: Page I am having problems with IE, In FF and Chrome the navigation at the top displays fine. However in IE8 (with or without compatibility) the UL seems to indent from the left hand side, not each li just the whole li; despite declaring text-align:center; width:600px; margin:auto; padding-left:0;.
