• Delete all records that have no foreign key constraints

  I have a SQL 2005 table with millions of rows in it that is being hit by users all day and night. This table is referenced by 20 or so other tables that have foreign key constraints. What I am needing to do on a regular basis is delete all records from this table where the "Active" field is set to false AND there are no other records in any of the child tables that reference the parent record. What is the most efficient way of doing this short of trying to delete each one at a time and letting it cause SQL errors on the ones that violate constraints? Also it is not an option to disable the constraints and I cannot cause locks on the parent table for any significant amount of time.

• JQuery-tmpl Template Switching Not working.

  I'm trying to implement "more/less" functionality using the official jquery-tmpl plugin. I've looked at the examples, but I cannot seem to get the functionality to work in my own implementation. When I click on one of my "More" buttons, I seem to get an error thrown of: Uncaught TypeError: Property 'tmpl' of object #<an Object> is not a function This is my implementation here From what I can tell, the example I'm trying to replace is doing the following: Render the "Master" template On-click: Find the corresponding template object (tmplItem) to the clicked element. Pass in reference to a new template. Call the update function to re-render. Have I understood the documentation wrong? From what I can tell I'm doing the same thing as the example on the official documentation.

  I have implemented a new routing protocol named AODV2 in ns-2.35. I am using ns-2.35 in fedora 13. All .cc files have a .o file with them that means recompilation is done. But I am getting an error in response to the 'make' command. • What is the equivalent to IScriptControl for Web.UI.Page?

  We've been using IScriptControl to tie javascript objects to our UserControls and ServerControls, and it's worked fine. The problem is that ASP.NET seems to provide no method to tie a javascript object to a Page. Up to now, we've been putting plain functions in the global namespace, but I am developing a serious allergy to that practice. It'd be easy enough to wrap our functions into a javascript class, and to include the javascript file on the page, but how to instantiate the object, how to reference it from callback events, and how to pass data to it from the code-behind, I haven't figured out. Or rather, the methods we've been using up to now (hidden fields, emitted javascript strings, etc.), really bug me. Anyone have better ideas?

  I'm in the search for an implementation of an ear-decomposition algorithm (http://www.ics.uci.edu/~eppstein/junkyard/euler/ear.html). I examined networkx and didn't find one. Although the algorithm layout is vaguely in my mind, I'd like to see some reference implementation, too. Side problem: First step could be an st-ordering of a graph. Are there any implementations for st-ordering algorithms you know? Thanks for your input. I'd really like to contribute e.g. to networkx by implementing the ear-decomposition algorithm in python.

Why can't the css just reference the body tag?

• where should I put the EF entity and data annotations in asp.net mvc + entity framework project

  So I have a DataEntity class generated by EntityFramework4 for my sqlexpress08 database. This data context is exposed via a WCF Data Service/Odata to silverlight and win forms clients. Should the data entities + edmx file (generated by EF4) go in a separate class library? The problem here then is I would specify data annotations for a few entities and then some of them would require specific MVC attributes (like CompareAttribute) so the class library would also reference mvc dlls. There also happen to be entity users which will be encapsulated or wrapped into an IIdentity in the website. So its pretty tied to the mvc website. Or Should it maybe go in a Base folder in the mvc project itself? Mostly the website is data driven around the database, like approve users, change global settings etc. The real business happens in the silverlight and win forms apps. Im using mvc3 rc2 with Razor. • Left outer join null using VB.NET and LINQ

  I've got what I think is a working left outer join LINQ query, but I'm having problems with the select because of null values in the right hand side of the join. Here is what I have so far Dim Os = From e In oExcel Group Join c In oClassIndexS On c.tClassCode Equals Mid(e.ClassCode, 1, 4) Into right1 = Group _ From c In right1.DefaultIfEmpty I want to return all of e and one column from c called tClassCode. I was wondering what the syntax would be. As you can see, I'm using VB.NET. Update... Here is the query doing join where I get the error: _message = "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."   I'm just getting started with TDD and am curious as to what approaches others take to run their tests. For reference, I am using the google testing framework, but I believe the question is applicable to most other testing frameworks and to languages other than C/C++. My general approach so far has been to do either one of three things: Write the majority of the application in a static library, then create two executables. One executable is the application itself, while the other is the test runner with all of the tests. Both link to the static library. Embed the testing code directly into the application itself, and enable or disable the testing code using compiler flags. This is probably the best approach I've used so far, but clutters up the code a bit. Embed the testing code directly into the application itself, and, given certain command-line switches either run the application itself or run the tests embedded in the application. None of these solutions are particularly elegant... How do you do it?

  my view generates keys in this format ["job_id:1234567890", 1271430291000] where the first key element is a unique key and the second is a timestamp in milliseconds. On top of this Delphi 2007 now requires being launced as an administrator to launcg a debugging process for the app. Question 1 : How can I see what is causing this besides starting from scratch in a new exe - IOW is there a log somewhere I can check Question 2 : Will using a signed exe using authenticode still cause the UAC alert to show

The widget has a tabbed interface, like the JQuery tabs http://stilbuero.de/jquery/tabs_3/. iFrames have been tested, but the widget form factor and cross-domain policy negates the use of iframes. The widget is very dynamic and will often update the DOM with new content - and because of cross-domain policy, it looks as though JSONP is necessary. I understand that 'widget.js.erb' needs to create the widget layout, reference a stylesheet, render the tabs, etc - but once a tab is clicked, how does the widget request the content from the Rails app and render it in the DOM?

• Dynamic classloading fails on runtime

But when I try to run it, something weird happens; a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError is thrown on that last line, referring to the class just loaded. The weird part is, the println prints the exact class name. I checked that if I keep the reference as an Object and manipulate it only through reflection, everything's fine, so the offending piece of code must be the explicit cast. Can someone explain to me why this happens, and also tell me how I can achieve what I'm trying to do?

  I'm currently blessed to be employed at a location where politics are pretty much non-existant and management overhead is nearly nil. As I've only worked at this one location for my entire, lengthy career, I have very little frame of reference outside of an occasional Dilbert comic or offhand comment from others about just how bad office politics and management interference get in the way of getting your code done elsewhere. While I'm not actively looking for a new job, this one point has made me quite reluctant to even look seriously elsewhere. My question is, just how much are politics a way of life in larger companies - in or out of the game industry and how much does it affect your day to day satisfaction?

• Space bar and arrow keys on Radio buttons trigger TypeError: Error #1009

  I've just discovered a bug in my app, it looks like a Flash player bug, i would like to know if anyone has found a workaround or something. I've some radio buttons groups in my app. If I press the arrow keys while holding the spacebar pressed, it ends up triggering TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at fl.controls::LabelButton/drawIcon() at fl.controls::LabelButton/draw() at fl.controls::RadioButton/draw() at fl.core::UIComponent/callLaterDispatcher() If found this thread that describes my same situation. Do you think there's any workaround for this? Is it really a flash bug?

• Actionscript classes to 1 SWC file

  I'm using Flash Builder 4 (the version after Flex Builder 3, so very similar to Flex Builder 3) and have a bunch of actionscript classes that I frequently need to reference. I have them in a separate folder/package to keep things clean. I know that it's possible to create a SWC from these actionscript files. My question is how do I do it in Flash Builder 4 or Flex Builder 3. Do I need other tools? My objective is just to use the SWC in the project and keep things clean instead of dragging around all these files.

• Model objects versions in Django

  Hi I'm building an e-commerce website. I have a Product and Order models. It's possible that a customer order a product and then the admin change its price or other fields before the customer actually get it. A possible solution is to add a 'version' field to the Product model. When the admin update a product field I'll add a timestamp and create a new object instead of updating the old one. An Order will have a reference to a specific product version. Does this make sense? Will overriding the Product Save method be sufficient to make it work? Thanks

I am having my own login system but i am also using some 3rd party to validate like OpenID or facebook Authetication. My question is if the user is able to log in successfully using OpenID or facebook Authentication, what steps do i need to do i.e do i have to insert one fake row in Users table because if i do not insert how will integrity be maintained. I mean what user id should i insert in UsersBookPurchase when the person who has logged in using Facebook Authentication has made a purchase because the UserId is reference key from Users table. Please give me a high level overview of what i need to do because this is fairly common scenario. Thanks in advance :)

  Hi, if I have a input with new lines in it like: [INFO] xyz [INFO] How can I pull out the xyz part? I tried a pattern like /^\[INFO\]$(.*?)$\[INFO\]/ms, but perl gives me: Use of uninitialized value $\ in regexp compilation at scripts\t.pl line 6. I've been trying things to get interpolation to stop like using qr// but alas, no love. EDIT: The key is that the end-of-line anchor is a dollar sign but at times it may be necessary to intersperse the end-of-line anchor through the pattern. If the pattern is interpolating then you might get problems such as uninitialized $\. For instance an acceptable solution here is /^\[INFO\]\s*^(.*?)\s*^\[INFO\]/ms but that does not solve the crux of the first problem. I've changed the anchors to be ^ so there is no interpolation going on, and with this input I'm free to do that. But what about when I really do want to reference EOL with $ in my pattern? How do I get the regex to compile?

• Why is floating point byte swapping different from integer byte swapping?

  I have a binary file of doubles that I need to load using C++. However, my problem is that it was written in big-endian format but the fstream operator will then read the number wrong because my machine is little-endian. It seems like a simple problem to resolve for integers, but for doubles and floats the solutions I have found won't work. How can I (or should I) fix this? • When does a MySQL Query actually execute in PHP?

  This sounds like a really simple question, but I am new to PHP. If I have a statement like this: $r =& $db->query("insert into table (col1, col2) values (10, 20)"); Do I have to still execute it, or does it get executed when I reference it? I have another case where I have a select query, which seems logically to run only when I call fetchrow, but the code I am presented with (to fix) does not call execute or fetch.I would have expected it to, so I cannot tell if it is just that I don't get it, or that the missing execute statement is the problem. It also does not insert the record, but it does not throw an error I can find. Also, I am a little confused by the =& notation. I looked it up on google, and found a few mentions of it, but I am still not clear on it. Thanks.
