• OpenVPN stopped working, what could have happened?

  I have Openvpn, and it worked great when I used it on PC (Windows 8), then I copied all files (Certificates and config) to an Android 4 phone to use them. Now, Openvpn works on the phone, but not the PC. Specifically, when I open Google I get: The server at www.google.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed, but the VPN seems to be connected. I have a simple question, could the problem be because I copied the same files? • Keyboard doesn't let me press certain keys at the same time

  I'm not sure how to word the problem other than I can't use certain keys at the same time. For example, when playing games that require you to use the arrow keys to move and jump/duck I am unable to move to the left and jump (left arrow + up arrow) at the same time. As a result, I don't play many games when I get to a point where the jumps and what not are too far. This happens with other keys as well. In FPS I am unable to hold W to move forward and hit 2 to select my secondary weapon. Some information that might help you: I am using Windows 7 64-bit I am using a Micro Innovations KB565BL keyboard How can I fix this?

• Excel 2002 disappears with no error message

  Excel 2002 closes about 30 seconds after I open it. No further action has to be taken; I open the program, wait a little while, and the window and process just disappears. I'm running Windows XP SP2 with Office 2002 Pro installed. Recently, Outlook 2007 was added to the computer (previously not installed at all.) Word 2002 works fine. Excel 2002 also works fine on another computer with a similar configuration. Things I've already checked for or tried: Verified that no add-ins are enabled. Repairing the installation. Uninstalling and reinstalling. Rename %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Excel I'm guessing that it is trying to load a component that doesn't exist and failing, but I don't know how to proceed. Suggestions welcome. Thank you!

• HP LaserJet 1320 printing black boxes instead of text

  I have an HP LaserJet 1320, running off of the HP PCL5 64-bit Universal Driver (Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit). When printing, anything other than body text is blacked out. I.e. on an email, where the 'To...', 'From...', 'CC...' and 'Subect' are usually shown at the top, there is just a black box. And on Word documents, anything to do with Track Changes is also blacked out. I have tried restarting the Print Spooler, and reinstalling the printer, but this does not help. Does anybody know why this is happening?

Wthout reference to verison. Discussions as recent as Jan 25, 2011. The Kernel I am using is form Debian Lenny, year ago. What should I do? Is this bug even fixed in kernel? if it's such obvious bug why it happens so rarely? Should I download latest kernel from kernel.org and upgrade? Should I use Debian backports to install new "Approved" kernel? Am I missing something? What to do?

We'd like to publish everything in one place. The main thing that stops us is access control - the wikis in place don't belong to us and we can't do it. What is the best tool for publishing docs, ideally fitting these requirements: web front end - readers access docs using browser single place to put docs access control by individual doc or by sets of docs (folders, branch of 'site', ...) if you don't have access to a doc, you don't see the link to that page/doc/folder. either built-in editor or something my users are familiar with (e.g. Word) built-in version control would be nice Also, can you think of other criteria I should've specified?

• Using a Custom Domain Name In Place of etsy

  I am thinking about creating an online shop at etsy, the one requirement I have is, I want user to see my domain name (www.myname.com), instead of myname.etsy.com. Given that I don't have access to the etsy server, is there thing I can do on my domain redirect( assuming I am using apache), so that whatever request on www.myname.com will be translated to the etsy side? This is so that whoever comes to my website won't see the word etsy in the url. Another particular thing is that I want my custom domain name to show in the web browser location bar when the redirect completes. Is there anyway to do this with apache?

• What could cause my browserS to keep crashing?

  The situation: Windows 7 ultimate on standard box 4 GB RAM. The problem: IE 8 kept on crashing. Tried upgrading to IE 9 - no better. Then I thought I will have to kick IE into touch and go with Firefox. Same problem Firefox crashes. Gave Chrome a chance - same problem the browser just says sorry, and closes / restarts. Other problems, this is not the best machine I have ever had, Word sometime closes unexpectedly, and I have trouble with Microsoft Updates failing first time.

  I'm trying to write an XPath that will select certain nodes that contain a specific word. In this case the word is, "Lockwood". The correct answer is 3. Both of these paths give me 3. count(//*[contains(./*,'Lockwood')]) count(BusinessLetter/*[contains(../*,'Lockwood')]) But when I try to output the text of each specific node //*[contains(./*,'Lockwood')][1] //*[contains(./*,'Lockwood')][2] //*[contains(./*,'Lockwood')][3] Node 1 ends up containing all the text and nodes 2 and 3 are blank. • Temp files created in every folder in Windows Server 2003

  So we have some folders which are shared over the AD Domain (Windows Server 2003). It was just noticed that in 2 of those folders (which contain only Excel and Word files), whenever a file is opened and closed, the temp file which was opened corresponding to that file still remains. Apparently, this's been going on for the past couple of years (which has led to an insane amount of temp files in each folder/subfolder under those shared folders). These shared folders are under the D:drive and not C: drive. There is only one group (containing 2 users) who access the said folders. I cannot understand if this has to do with the settings/permissions for the User/Group/Individual Client machine. For now, I have manually deleted all the temp files from each folder/subfolder. While this is not critical at the moment, I'd still like to clear this up. Also, it takes an additional fraction of a second to open folders that contains more than 10,000 temp files. • Vim: How to create autocomplete/chooser from entries in buffer?

  Found out today that if you press Ctrl-Opt-Cmd-V in Textmate, it produces a cute little "chooser" dialogue in-place that allows you to page through your recent clipboard entries. It looks very similar to how CTRL-P and -N work in VIM, except it shows whole lines instead of simple word objects. It seems like this would be doable in VIM — it already has a buffer full of entries (the YankRing buffer, for example), and it already has a chooser, but I can't think of where I'd look to start putting these two together. Any ideas? (I know that YankRing already does this by opening a new window full of buffer content, but I wonder if there's a way to do it without all the window switching/closing/etc)

• Outlook new message size nearly 1mb

  I've been using Outlook 2010 for several weeks with no issues. Suddently, a few days ago, the size of my outgoing messages got huge. Looking at thsi it appeas that a huge CSS style is beign created with around 14,000 definition for list items, making the message almost 1mb before I even typed in one word. Emails before that point were very small. Needless to say I can't remember changing anything, nor can anyone around here provide any possible explanation... Any ideas?

• Text comparison utility

  I know this has been asked before...but I have a spin as I have been trying out varying free software offerings. I want to rid out department of DiffDoc the problem is that I am having trouble locating something that will do what we need. WinMerge has been the latest attempt... The problem is simple. One Word doc...one PDF with a portion of it containing the text to be compared against. Compare them and be done. Raw text, ignore whitespace, ignore carriage returns, etc... Just compare the text and give me the results in some sort of report. NOTE: Have tried ExamDiff, kdiff3, Tortoise, and a few others...

• Disk space mismatch on OS X Server (Leopard)

  My Nagios system sent me an alert to inform me that the disk space on one of the drives on our OS X server is very low. When I run df /Volumes/Apps/ I get /dev/disk0s3 117209520 114932472 2277048 99% /Volumes/Apps When I run du -c /Volumes/Apps it reports 11489944 total Why might there be such a vast difference? Even more importantly, how do I find the problem and what can I do about it? I'm essentially just a Windows admin, so am well out of my comfort zone here. I use a Mac but I'm not a Mac admin in any real sense of the word.

• Inserting Keynote slides into a Pages document

  I have a number of training documents which are formed from a word processor file and a slideshow. I'd like to be able to keep them together ideally by inserting the slides from Keynote into Pages. Is there any way of doing this quickly. So far I have tried Applescript with little success, I can drag and drop the slides one at a time but it is a bit slow and I've tried turning the slideshow into and dragging it into Pages but this only pulls in the first slide. Does anyone have any better ideas?

• conditional formatting in excel 2010

  I have some strange problem, after I've made switch from excel 2007 to excel 2010 I've started to receive duplicates of conditional formatting rules in excel. For example: I have conditional formatting which colors the cell when it detects that cell contains a word "hello". When I copy this cell to other cells (which also contains the same rule) sometimes I receive duplicates. Those duplicates really slows down excel. So my question is: is there any possiblity to disable copy/paste of conditional formatting (I want to copy/paste all content excep conditional formatting, all formulas values and other stuff). P.S. Just to make it clear, I don't know how to reporduce that problem, it occurs sometimes and I work with excel a lot

• Dock displays low-resolution icons

  Recently, I've noticed that the dock has been starting to display low-resolution icons in place of the former high-resolution icons for common apps like Stickies, Word, iTunes and Preview. Looking at the .icns file within each program, all copies of the icon are present within the file (high and low resolutions), but the dock refuses to display them, leaving some programs looking like this: Restarting doesn't stop this behaviour, nor does a killall Dock, nor removing the icon and replacing it in the dock. In Finder, the icons display normally. Does anybody know what may be causing this issue? Thanks!

• Clicking hyperlinks in Email messages becomes painfully slow

  Running Windows 7 (RC, 64 bit). Suddenly, today, after months without a problem, clicking on links has become extremely slow. I've noticed this in two places. (1) clicking hyperlinks in Outlook email messages, which launches Firefox, takes around a minute. Launching Firefox by itself is instantaneous - I have an SSD drive and a very fast CPU. (2) opening Word documents attached to Outlook email messages also takes a surprisingly long time. The only thing these two might have in common is that they use the DDE mechanism, if I'm not mistaken, to send a DDE open command to the application. Under Windows XP this problem could sometimes be fixed by unchecking the "Use DDE" checkbox in the file type mapping, however, I can't find any equivalent under Windows 7. • Does /NOCANDY avoid any adware-related activities with OpenCandy?

  OpenCandy claims that using the /NOCANDY switch when using a OpenCandy-affiliated installer allows you to avoid opencandy. Should I take their word for it? If not, can anyone independent of OpenCandy and their affiliates verify that /NOCANDY works? Background: About to install WinSCP onto a fresh Windows installation, and found out that new versions have OpenCandy associated with their installer. For the sake of balance, here's a link to WinSCP's FAQ on OpenCandy. The claim about /NOCANDY working appears on WinSCP's web site, but the same boilerplate appears on other OpenCandy web sites. If the OpenCandy people are offended by the tag "spyare": sorry, but it's the main tag here, rather than "adware".

• remove words containing non-alpha characters

  Given a text file with space separated string and a tab separated integer, I'd ;like to get rid of all words that have non-alpha characters but keep words consisting of alpha only characters and the tab plus the integer afterwards. My attempts like the ones below didin't yield any good. What I was trying to express is something like: "replace anything within word boundaries that starts and ends with 0 or more whatever and there is at least one :digits: or :punct: in between". sed 's/\b.[:digits::punct:]+.\b//g' sed 's/\b.[^:alpha:]+.\b//g' What am I missing? • PostgreSQL under Mac OSX Lion. Wrong userpass?

  I'm completely helpless, maybe you guys can help me out. I installed PostgreSQL under my new MacOSX Lion. When I try to connect to my localhost with pgAdminIII.app it says: Error connecting to the database: FATAL password authentication failed for user postgres I just have no idea what to do? Non of my passwords work. Neither my adminpass nor "postgres" nor anyhting else. I tried to install it again via the console where I found this helpful link: http://www.peerassembly.com/2011/08/...resql-on-lion/ However the problem is, that when I try to run createuser -a -d _postgres the same password problem appears again. I just can't seem to find a solution to this. Always wrong password. Btw. I have a new User called "PostgreSQL" on my machine after I installed postgres. Any ideas? I'm so stuck and I really need to make this work.

• Easy way to restrict permissions in an elementary school computer lab?

  I'm putting together an elementary school computer lab. I have nine winxp pro machines that are not networked and do not have internet access (no money to do either). I've created separate student and admin accounts, and have the students set as limited users. However, I'm interested in further restricting their permissions. I want to make it such that they cannot: -delete any files, even just from their own profile -rename any files -move around the icons on the desktop -change any display settings -access a usb device without a password (they bring in their own from home which are chock-full of viruses) Oh, one last thing, they still have to be able to save word documents. Is this even possible? I can download software, but, like I said: no internet, no server.

• How to get iTunes to recognize that certain ID3 tags have been removed from files?

  I use MusicBrainz Picard to manage the ID3 tags on my MP3 collection and iTunes for playing them and managing my iPod. I have Picard set to remove the Composer tag from any files that don't also contain the word "Classical" in the Genre tag. I've run Picard and it has removed the Composer tag from many of my files. However, iTunes keeps displaying the old value of the Composer field. I have tried right-clicking on the file to update, choosing "Get Info" and clicking OK. This has no effect on the Composer field when it has been removed entirely; it only refreshes the displayed value when it has been changed from one non-empty value to another. How can I get iTunes to stop showing the old values for tags that have been removed? Please note I don't want to lose other iTunes metadata such as ratings and play counts, so removing the files from the iTunes library and re-adding them is not an option.
