• Remote MySQL connection fails (10060)

  When I am trying to connect to a MySQL database from a remote computer I get a prompt saying: Connection Failed: [HY000] [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver]Can't Connect to MySQL server on 'XXX.XXX.XX.XX' (10060) I have created a user account in the MySQL Administrator and added a host to enable remote access, I have also made an exception for my Windows Firewall on port 3306 but the connection still fails. What is the problem? Thanks!

  Hi there, I am trying to achieve something that you might typically use a hosts file for, but that isn't suitable here. I want a Windows PC to refer to a local file (I can serve it from a web server at localhost if needed) when it attempts to fetch a certain remote file via HTTP. However, I need other files from that particular remote web server to be fetched as usual. Any help appreciated.

  I created a database link using database link. create public database link REMOTEDB connect to REMOTEUSER identified by REMOTEPWD using 'REMOTEDB'; then i create a table in remote db like, create table MYTABLE@REMOTEDB (name varchar2(20))); It says, ORA-02021 DDL operations are not allowed on| a remote database.. Will this Not work on any cost, or am i just missing some permissions to create ?

Well, I can do this using lynx (a command line browser), but then, javascript etc... gets messed up. Is there a way I can open the URL and see it in my local machine firefox browser for example ?? • Dell "Remote Access Configuration Utility" keeps prompting

  One of our servers can never reboot without pausing at the BIOS prompt asking to "F1 to continue, F2 to enter setup utility". I have gone into Setup and there is nothing there to stop it prompting for this; I have gone into the Remote Access Configuration Utility (CTRL+E) and have setup some values hoping that because it was setup it would not keep asking, but nope, nothing obvious like "Disable Remote Access Configuration". This is the screen we see: Does anyone know what we can do to let our machine boot cleanly??

  Is there a way to use rdesktop or another Linux client to connect to a server that requires Network Level Authentication? From Windows Server 2008 R2 -- Control Panel -- System And Security -- System -- Allow Remote Access there is an option that says "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication". So with this enabled I can con not connect from Linux. I can connect from XP but you need SP3 and I had to edit a couple of things in the registry for it to work.

  Remote Assistance is enabled on a PC to-bo-controlled-remotely which is running Windows 7 Starter. I also allowed permanent access for it on the firewall. On the controlling Windows XP Professional laptop I enabled Offer Remote Assistance using gpedit.msc. Both are on the same Workgroup and on the same subnet in my LAN. But I still receive Permission Denied when I attempt to connect: Any idea what I could be missing and how to troubleshoot this problem?

  When I rebuild my desktop, I'm thinking of using server hardware instead of desktop hardware. I want to do this so I can easily add a lot of ECC memory (~20GB), and possibly more than one processor. I know that video hardware could be a problem, especially because I use 4 monitors. I should be fine with this, as long as I have two pci-e channels. Are there any downsides to doing this? Anything I'm not seeing?

  I am working with a kindergarten teacher to create an iPad/iPhone app which plays audio of her narrating each page of the "book". She wishes to only share some of the books with students in her class. Can I create a mechanism for downloading books from a custom repository link? I would send the URL home with the kids and have the parents type it into the app. I would include a couple of books preloaded with the app. I could even provide a sample repository with a sample book if you think it would make any difference. I am trying to come up with a creative solution that gives her the app she wants for her students while protecting the privacy she wishes for some of her content. What are your thoughts?

  I'm planning on developing an Apple Mac application which will collect hardware information from the host Mac and also installed software info. The hardware and software info will be collected in an encrypted XML file and then posted back to a website. The application should run as a "service" or background process on the Mac and can be configured to collect the data on a frequent basis defined by another encrypted XML config file. I've done plenty of Windows based software development but never on the Mac. Can anybody point me in the direction of any useful info on how to develop on the Mac, collect hardware and software info, export to an XML file, file encryption and packaging a compiled app to run as a service?   There was a similar thread to this a few years back, but without any solutions. Just wondering if things have moved on since then. I'm primarily an Mac admin working in a college, but I have recently taken over responsibility for about 30 student workstations running Windows 7. For the Macs I have Apple Remote Desktop, where I can logon to machines in a session,check for any nefarious student activity and if necessary, log off or lock users out of machines. Could anyone give me a suggestion for an equivalent Windows system manager where I can do these tasks - e.g. not just a vnc client but one with more management options?

• Never before had a problem with Ubuntu desktop graphical display; Trying to use nvidia GT630

  I've been using ubuntu since 9.04 and never had a problem with Ubuntu brining up the desktop graphical user interface. However I am currently not able to see anything graphical past the install screens. I have an Intel DP55KG motherboard and just installed an nvidia gt630 graphics card (zotac), since the old graphics card failed. I can install the server and see text. So I do a apt-get install ubuntu-desktop...or apt-get install kubuntu-desktop...or apt-get install xubuntu desktop, but after the reboot there is no display...its like something is hung up. I tried using the Live quantal dvd and I do see the graphical prompt to try without installing, but after that the screen goes blank. I've tried two monitors and the same thing happens. There is a faint "glow" on the screen and I do not get a "no input signal" from the monitor, so something is happening. I can install an old OEM of XP so I know the video card and motherboard are at least semi functional. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Greg
