  • Retrieving Windows Mobile browser history

    How can I retrieve a list of urls a user has visited on a Windows Mobile phone? I've written a program that successfully retrieves the visited urls in a user's cache, using FindFirstUrlCacheEntry and FindNextUrlCacheEntry - but as I understand it this is not the same as the user's actual web history. In any case it does not seem to give correct results. Edit: I believe the file I'm looking for is index.dat. But it's certainly not in the same place it is on a desktop machine, if it exists at all. And I'm not sure how to parse it. Any experience in this area would be greatly appreciated.

    I have the below text field in my page: <input class="message" id="message" name="message" type="text" size="65" /> For some reason in the latest FireFox for OS X it is about 200pixels wider than it is in the latest Chrome (mac/pc) FireFox(pc) and IE(pc) Any suggestions on how I can fix this or why this is happening?

I'd like a way that requires me to do little to set up and little to maintain, yet still provide me with accurate detection of (at the VERY least) Android, Mobile Safari and Blackberry browsers, along with alternatives like Opera. I'd like to have at least the majority of the mobile market covered, and I'd really prefer virtually all of the market if it doesn't take much.

  • How to launch a browser in view source mode?

    I want to open a file in a web browser (anyone will do) and I want to see it in the view source mode instead of in the standard browser window. This can be done in two steps, by opening the file and then go to the view source window (different shortcuts in each browser), but I want to directly go to the view source window. I have not found any such command line argument for Firefox nor Chrome. Is this possible just with the base browser functionality?

  • Android browser scaling?

    I'm trying to create a mobile website for android. When I set the width of the body to 480px (the width of the screen) the result is about 50% larger than what I expect. It seems that android is scaling what it draws and messing up all my layouts. Does anyone know how to disable this, or work around it? I'm already using this: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, height=device-height, user-scalable=no, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, minimum-scale=1.0" />

  • Map browser DOM using Javascript

    I'm trying to map a browsers DOM using javascript. It should list all the functions and attributes associated with it and it should also recurse through any object attributes. Now as I understand it 'window' is the most top-level node (although I've see a reference to 'top' as well in Chrome.) then 'document', etc. However I've never seen 'Node' under 'window' and yet I can call it. So where is 'Node' located? Is there a level above 'window' or is it a separate object (W3C says it's supposed to be inherited by 'document' only.)? I've been playing with a function to do this but I keep getting weird results so I'm not post it here. Alternatively - is it possible to get the properties from the object types instead of the object reference itself? for example 'DOMWindow' instead of 'window'. I think this would stop duplicating data from inherited objects.

  • Browser-Incompatability with image alignment in CSS using YUI grid (Firefox + Opera)

    I'm having trouble with the alignment of two images on the footer of my temporary website (http://www.rotimioyewole.com). I'm new to the YUI grid, which I think may be a factor. It should look roughly like this (works correctly in Chrome and Safari, haven't tested IE yet): (http://cl.ly/44fH) But on FF and Opera look like this: http://cl.ly/44aO If I can have some sort of consistency then the website would at least be presentable. Ideally, I would also like to align both images on the same Y axis, as well as the text next to the icons. I had trouble figuring out how to search for a solution..can anybody help me? However whenever I click a link embedded in a pdf document I'm viewing with Adobe Reader 8.2.1 I get a popup security warning asking if this is ok, and then the Reader opens the link in IE.     I hear that a new Thunar (with tabs!!) is ready - see this. I have added the PPA and run the update and upgrade commands but I still have Thunar 1.2.3 In Synaptic, Thunar looks ready for upgrade: It asks to uninstall some XFCE stuff that I might hope to reinstall later but then something is fishy Is this new version limited to the Xfce desktop? Also, now, when I try Update Manager, I get this: and ...unless I remove the xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.12 PPAs. So, removing Thunar in Synaptic and all that seems related to it, and then adding those PPAs, and trying to install Thunar, the following info emerges: What is to be done?

  • Has form post behavior changed in modern browsers? (or How are double clicks handled by the browser)

    Background: We are in the process of writing a registration/payment page, and our philosophy was to code all validation and error checking on the server side first, and then add client side validation as a second step (un-obstructive jQuery). We wanted to disable double clicks server side, so we wrote some locking, thread-safe code to handle simultaneous posts/race conditions. When we tried to test this, we realized that we could not cause a simultaneous post or race condition to occur. I thought that (in older browsers anyway) double clicking a submit button worked as follows: User double clicks submit button. Browser sends a post on the first click On the second click, browser cancels/ignores initial post, and initiates a second post (before the first post has returned with a response). Browser waits for second post to return, ignoring initial post response. I thought that from the server side it looked like this: Server gets two simultaneous post requests, executes and responds to them both (unaware that no one is listening to the first response). From our testing (FireFox 3.0, IE 8.0) this is what actually happens: User double clicks submit button Browser sends a post for the first click Browser queues up second click, but waits for the response from the first click. Response returns from first click (response is ignored?). Browser sends a post for the second click. So from a server side: Server receives a single post which it executes and responds to. Then, server receives a second request wich it executes and responds to. My question is, has this always worked this way (and I'm losing my mind)? Or is this a new feature in modern browsers that prevents simultaneous posts to be sent to the server? It seems that for server side double click prevention, we don't have to worry about simultaneous posts or race conditions. Only need to worry about queued up posts.     Recently during one of my client side scripting classes, I was trying to show my students some basic examples of JavaScript as an introduction to the language.  My first basic example was to show an alert box using JavaScript via the address bar. The student’s reaction to my browser hack example really caught me off guard in a good way. After programming with a language for close to 10 years you start to lose the "Awe Cool!" effect that new learners of a language experience when writing code. New learns of JavaScript are the reason why I created this post. Please enjoy. Note: Place JavaScript in to address bar and then press the enter key. Example 1: JavaScript Alert box displaying My name: John Doe Javascript:alert('My name: \n John Doe') ; Example 2: JavaScript alert box displaying name entered by user. javascript:alert('My name: \n ' + prompt('Enter Name','Name')) ; Example 3: JavaScript alert box displaying name entered by user, and then displays the length of the name. javascript:var name= prompt('Enter Name','Name'); alert('My name: \n ' + name); alert(name.length); If you notice, the address bar will execute JavaScript on the current page loaded in the browser using the Document Object Model (DOM). Additionally, the address bar will allow multiple lines to be executed sequentially even though all of the code is contained within one line due to the fact that the JavaScript interpreter uses the “;” to indicate where a line of ends and a new one begins.
