An array of options allow for full customization for advanced users, but basic implementation is so easy that even coding novices can do it. I wanted to ask if It is possible to sends out a link of a file that has just been uploaded wioth the e-mail notification of Uploadify.   • Ruby send mail with smtp

    I'm trying to send simple email via Ruby (no rails) on OS X, with XCode (which installs Ruby.) But I'm running into a problem with my smtp server which requires the email client to check mail before sending as a form of authentication. So with the script below I get an error: 500 Unrecognized command (Net::SMTPAuthenticationError). How can I get Ruby to authenticate with the smtp server in a "POP" fashion before I can send mail? Not download mail; I only want to send, but I have to check mail before I send. POP3 is not available at the smtp server.   • PHP Mail() not working on remote server

    I am developing an application and have been testing the mail() function in PHP. The following works just fine on my local machine to send emails to myself, but as soon as I try to send it from the testing environment to my local machine, it silently fails. I will still get the "Mail Sent" message, but no message is sent. I turned on the mail logging in the php.ini file, but even that doesn't seem to be populated after I refresh the page. Again, the .php files and php.ini files are identical in both environments.   • ADO 2.8, VMWare and SQL Server - sudden bulk dropped connections

    We have an overworked server currently running a single SQL Server 2000 instance on physical hardware, and about 40 different apps interact with it on a daily basis. Last year, the RAID controller failed and we had no spare, so IT Support hurriedly migrated it overnight to a copy running on a VMWare Server. While it was on that server everything ran much quicker due to it being a big improvement in spec. However, the biggest app using it had occasional serious errors which never occurred on physical hardware. Specifically, several times a week it would disconnect batches of users - anywhere from just ten to hundreds at once, and all at the same time. It didn't affect any particular users or PCs or offices - all were affected equally. The only common thing was the app, which is a VB6 app using ADO 2.8 to connect. The other apps connecting to that virtualised instance of SQL Server seemingly had no problems, although they were (and are) responsible for only a tiny fraction of the work involving this server. The upshot is that after about two weeks of loving the speed and hating the random mass disconnections (which we were never able to find a cause for), we sadly took the decision to return to physical hardware and the disconnections vanished. Now we've reached the point where the old server just can't handle all that's being asked of it, and we're intending to migrate everything to 2 or more other servers. The snag is that there's a good chance they'll have to be virtual ones again. Given what happened last time, I'm trying to find out what possible reasons there could be for these mass disconnections. We were running VMWare ESX, but the network is Novell-based. Also, the server had a linked server setup to connect to an Informix server using a known-to-be-buggy ODBC driver, and this is used throughout the day. Any ideas on the cause(s)?

  • Bulk delete music files physically in songbird

    I've downloaded hundreds of songs from SXSW 2009 Showcasing Artists. In Songbird, I've filtered out a lot of songs which I don't like, i.e. gave rating of one to them. I hope to delete all these from my hard disk, but it's a feature yet to implement in Songbird. The most close solution I could get is this. But it works not well, and always messes files around. So, hope you could bring up a reliable and better solution.

I left my Outlook account unattended for several days (on vacation) and when I got back I found several folders with over 5k emails, mostly error logging or spam. When I try to open the Outlook client, it just locks up, presumably unable to download that many emails. I can view at most 100 emails at a time, but I can't select all emails to delete or permanently delete them immediately, so manually deleting this many emails is going to take a while. Gmail has a similar feature to select and delete all emails in a folder, and that's free so I figure being a quality non-free product from Microsoft, Outlook should have a similar feature (yes that's sarcasm). I've Googled, but I'm not finding anything. Is this possible?

    Sorry this question is trivial, but I couldn't get it to work: I have a folder full of .zip files, each .zip file contains exactly one .xml file. The zip files have sensible names like a.zip etc., while the .xml file contained in them have some "randomname".xml Now I want to unpack all the .zip files in the folder, preserving the name of the .zip files, so that a.zip gets unpacked into a.xml, b.zip into b.xml etc... I only managed to achieve a batch unpacking with the command: for z in *.zip; do unzip "$z"; done How do I enhance this to keep the names?

I am trying to figure out a way to automatically edit them so that I dont have to write ineffective AHK scripts to do it. Is there a feature inside of Photoshop (cs3) to do this?   • Getting sendmail to install/work for using php mail()

    I'm running WordPress on a Ubuntu VPS. When WordPress tries to send an email like a password reset or registration email it never gets delivered. WordPress uses php's mail() function. I figure it's not working as my VPS didn't have sendmail installed. So I went into SSH and installed it with sudo apt-get install sendmail which appeared to succeed. Following more googled advice I edited the php.ini file to have the sendmail path. I located it as being /usr/sbin/sendmail which I believe is typical for many *nix servers. To check I browsed to this directory on FTP. The "sendmail" directory appears to be a shortcut. Is this correct/expected? Either way the php mail function is not working. I have created a phpinfo file and a test mail php file which contains just a mail() function with my email as the recipient. Note: my VPS doesn't yet have a domain, just an IP address. Would this affect sendmail functionality? My phpinfo is here for your reference: http://95.142.166.209/phpinfo.php Do I also need postfix? I don't think I have it... Here is some of the mail log. I have the following insert statement: insert into symbol (sy_id, sy_fg_color, sy_bg_color, sy_icon) select 302, 0, 16245177, sy_icon = (select * from openrowset(bulk 'K:\mypath\icons\myicon.png', single_blob) as image) Is it possible to make the path relative in any way? I'm using TFS to deploy the database, so if it's not possible to make it relative with T-SQL, maybe it can be done with a little help from TFS/Visual Studio deploy?

    Hello I have a ADO.NET dataTable with about 100.000 records. In this table there is a column "xyID" which has no values in it, because they are generated by insertion into my MSSQL Database. Now i have the problem, that i need this IDs for other processes. I am looking for a way to bulk copy this dataTable into the MSSQL database, and within the same "step" to "fill" my dataTable with the generated IDs. Thank you for your answers!

    I was messing around with sendmail in Rails a year ago and have had this message popping up in the terminal after every command ever since: You have new mail in /var/mail/Lance How do I properly get rid of that so the message goes away? I ever use any of that functionality and don't have mail on my computer. There's one file in /var/mail called lance, and it's huge. Can I just remove it?

  • sendmail and MX records when mail server is not on web host

    This is a problem I'm sure is easy to fix, but I've been banging my head on it all day. I'm developing a new web site for a client. The web site resides at (this is an example) website.com. I have a PHP form script to email visitors' requests to [email protected]. When I coded this on a staging server on a different domain, all worked fine. When I moved it to website.com, the mail messages never arrived. The web server is on a virtual host with a major ISP. Here's what I've learned since then: My client's mail server is Microsoft Exchange on a box physically in their office. Whenever someone on the outside world emails [email protected], the mail arrives. But if the web server sends to the same email address, it fails every time. This is not a PHP problem. I secure shell in to the web server and have tested this both with sendmail and the UNIX mail application. I've also tested it by emailing various email accounts from the shell. I can email myself, for example, just nobody at the website.com domain. In short, when I'm logged in to website.com, mail to [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] all fail. All other addresses work fine. What I've discovered is those dropped emails are routed to the web server's "catchall" account where they sit in its inbox. I've done an MX lookup on website.com. The MX record points to mailsec.website.com. I can telnet to mailsec.website.com port 25 and see the SMTP server. It appears to me that website.com isn't doing an MX lookup when it's sending mail to [email protected]. My theory is that it recognizes the domain as local, sees that there's no "requests" user account to deliver it to, and drops the mail into the catchall account. What I want is to force sendmail to do the MX lookup and send the message on to the Exchange server. I'm at wit's end here. I can't figure out how to do this. For that matter, I may be way off base here and have misdiagnosed this entirely. Internet mail and MX has always seemed a black art to me, and my ignorance is certainly showing in this question.
