• Question about Modal Dialog in Gtk application

  Hi, In Gtk application, there is 1 main loop which listens for events (e.g. mouse click, keyboard, etc). And when a modal dialog popup, the main loop is blocked until user clicks 'OK' in the dialog, right? (i.e. nothing will happen when user clicks on the main window). Is that correct? My question is how can firefox did its modal dialog so that it can: 1. when 1 have 2 Firefox windows 2. one of them has a modal dialog 3. other one is still interactive If both window shares the same gtk main loop, how is that possible? Please help me understanding this. Thank you.

• Get content in iframe to use as much space as it needs

  I'm trying to write a simple JavaScript based modal dialog. The JavaScript function takes the content, puts it in a new iframe and adds the iframe to the page. Works great so far, the only problem is that the content of the dialog (e.g. a table) gets wrapped, although plenty of space is available on the page. I'd like the content of the dialog, a table in my case, to use as much space as it needs, without wrapping any lines. I tried lots of combinations of setting width/style.width on the iframe and the table. Nothing did the trick. • Android - dialer icon gets placed in recently used apps after finish()

  In my application I detect the out going call when a call is dialled from the dialer or contacts. This works fine and I then pop up a dialog saying I have detected the call and then the user presses a button to close the dialog which calls finish() on that activity. It all works fine except that when I then hold the home key to bring up the recently used apps the dialer icon is there. And when it is clicked the dialog is brought back into focus in the foreground when the dialog activity should be dead and gone and not be able to be brought back to the foreground. Here is a picture of what I mean. So two questions arise, why would the dialer icon be getting placed there and why would it be recalling my activity to the foreground? • Hiding "Print to file" in a Java print dialog

  I'm maintaining this Swing app that has a "print" option. Users need to be kept from interacting in any way with the underlying file system, but the print dialog offers "print to file" as one printer, and that of course allows selecting a directory and file from the file system. Is there a painless way to override/modify the print dialog to hide the "to file" printer from this dialog? I understand the API will let me do this piecemeal but I'd rather not have to re-create most of the dialog GUI and functionality to do this.

  I want to get Default Windows Forms Unhandled-Exception Dialog whenever my C# application encounters U-E. In vs 2005 when I turn off jit Debugging in app.conf like this: <configuration> <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="false" /> <configuration> the application behaves correctly and shows Windows Forms U-E default dialog, with Continue, Quit, call stack and all. However in vs 2008, on the same machine or different, even though I diable jit I still get Default .NET Unhandled-Exception Dialog, with Debug, Send Report and Don't Send buttons. How can I make my vs 2008 app act like the one I make in vs 2005, to show Windows Forms U-E dialog box? Please do not recommend to use AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += new UnhandledExceptionEventHandler(CurrentDomain_UnhandledException); just because I don't use custom handler in my vs 2005 project, why would I use in vs 2008? I want to let this job do CLR. Any help is appreciated

I can't use <activity android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog"> in manifest file as it will always display activity as dialog. API Error Code: 2 API Error Description: Service temporarily unavailable Error Message: User can't send this request: Unknown error I've checked it, and found out, that after selecting friends and clicking send dialog changes location to http://www.facebook.com/dialog/apprequest, the error occures, and than after clicking "ok" it changes location to redirect_uri. Do you have any ideas? Is this my fault or facebooks'?

• What are common anti-patterns when using VBA

  I have being coding a lot in VBA lately (maintenance and new code), specifically with regards to Excel automation etc. = macros. Typically most of this has revolved around copy/paste, send some emails, import some files etc. but eventually just ends up as a Big ball of mud As a person who values clean code, I find it very difficult to produce 'decent' code when using VBA. I think that in most cases, this is a direct result of the macro-recorder. Very helpful to get you started, but most times, there are one too many lines of code that achieve the end result. Edit: The code from the macro-recorder is used as a base to get started, but is not used in its entirety in the end result I have already created a common addin that has my commonly used subroutines and some utility classes in an early attempt to enforce some DRYness - so this I think is a step in the right direction. But I feel as if it's a constant square peg, round hole situation. The wiki has an extensive list of common anti-patterns and what scared me the most was how many I have implemented in one way or another. The question Now considering, that my mindset is OO design, what some common anti-patterns and the possible solutions when designing a solution (think of this - how would designing a solution using Excel and VBA be different from say a .net/java/php/.../ etc solution) ; and when doing common tasks like copying data, emailing, data importing, file operations... etc An anti-pattern as defined by Wikipedia is: In software engineering, an anti-pattern (or antipattern) is a pattern that may be commonly used but is ineffective and/or counterproductive in practice

  I need to replace a package with a custom one, which gets its own name (foo-origpackage). To allow it to be used as drop-in replacement, I added the Provides: origpackage line to the control file. apt-cache show foo-origpackage lists the "Provides" entry just fine. However, when I want to install a file depending on origpackage, it fails ("Package origpackage not installed"). Is there some distinction between "real" and virtual packages I'm missing?   How do I test the changes to the pam.d configuration files: Do I need to restart the PAM service to test the changes? Should I go through every service listed in the /etc/pam.d/ directory? I'm about to make changes to the pam.d/common-* files in an effort to put an Ubuntu box into an active directory controlled network. I'm just learning what to do, so I'm preparing the configuration in a VM, which I plan to deploy in metal in the coming week.   I have to setup an embedded standalone CIFS server outside of domain environment. I shall refer to the server as storage_gateway. The default password setting for the Administrator account is Password must be changed. Until Administrator password is changed other local accounts are disabled. While the server is on default password connecting to a share causes fails with NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE error. $ smbclient -L //storage_gateway -U Administrator session setup failed: NT_STATUS_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE I have a mixed Linux/Windows environment and prefer smbclient for diagnostics. To change the password in Windows 2003 Server I could press CTRL-ALT-DEL to get into the Windows Security window and change password for the remote server specifying the server name or ip address (xx.xx.xx.xx) in the system password change dialog. (the name root is just an example, I have edited the dialogs to translate them) However in Windows 2008 the corresponding dialog lacks the Log on to field. Is there a way to change a remote password in Windows 2008 Server/Windows 7?

• Black GUI with minimal desktop icons appeared after powering on my desktop PC

  My computer powered on fine but after POST, a dialog box appeared with a red "X" and it gave some sort of warning. It had a long file name, I cannot recollect the entirety of it but it was something like C:/system32/desktop....After clicking ok, the GUI was totally black with only the Recycle Bin icon in the Desktop, and the Taskbar was there as well. I restarted it, and the GUI was back to normal with the icons and wallpaper in their proper place. I'm sure if I knew more of that file name in the dialog box, that would be helpful to those reading this but should I be concerned that this happened?

• Winamp jump dialog

  In the most recent build of Winamp, either the Jump dialog has been ruined or there's some hidden "advanced" setting that i'm missing. The Jump dialog used to have a few options, like "Jump to file and play" "Jump to file without playing" "Queue file to start playing next, after this song finishes" But now it only shows (CANCEL) as the only button, and you can press enter on a file to start play. What happened to the JUMP & QUEUE feature? I want to jump to a file, but QUEUE it to be played next, not play it immediately.

I understand that in some business situations there are thousands (upon thousands) of existing MS Office documents that may or may not convert cleanly to Open Office. Not everyone is in that situation though. Among non IT folk, I rarely see OOo. Why is this so? What are common reasons for people not using OpenOffice.org? • SSL certificates and whether a wildcard common name will support domain.com

  Sorry, if this is very vendor specific but I purchased an inexpensive SSL Cert from GoDaddy. Right now everything on production is hosted off of www.domain.com. When specifying the common name would a wildcard (ie *.domain.com) cover the case of a lack of a third-level domain such as domain.com? Just to be sure, I made it for www.domain.com rather than a wildcard. If it matters, I will be using with nginx and a mod_passenger. If I want to cover everything including domain.com and staging.domain.com, www.domain.com etc, would a wildcard be the proper cert? Does the inexpensive godaddy cert (12.99 / year) cover wildcard certs (it didn't seem to for me)? Again, sorry for asking vendor specific questions and thx in advance. thx

I want to find the most common phrases in these entries (not the single most common phrase, and ideally, not enforcing word-for-word matching). My example is any review on Yelp.com, that shows 3 snippets from hundreds of reviews of a given restaurant, in the format: "Try the hamburger" (in 44 reviews) e.g., the "Review Highlights" section of this page: http://www.yelp.com/biz/sushi-gen-los-angeles/ I have NLTK installed and I've played around with it a bit, but am honestly overwhelmed by the options.   Lets say I want to make few classes to determine behaviour of agents. The good practice would be to make some common interface for them, such interface (simplified) could look like this: interface IModel { void UpdateBehaviour(); } All , or at least most, of such model would have some parameters, but parameters from one model might have nothing in common with parameters of other model. I would like to have some common way of loading parameters. Question What is the best way to do that? Is it maybe just adding method void LoadParameters(object parameters) to the IModel? Or creating empty interface IParameters and add method void LoadParameters(IParameters parameters)? That are two ideas I came up with, but I don't like either of them.

From wiki: The longest common substrings of a set of strings can be found by building a generalised suffix tree for the strings, and then finding the deepest internal nodes which have leaf nodes from all the strings in the subtree below it I don't get this. Example: if I have: ABCDE and XABCZ then the suffix tree is (some branches from XABCZ omitted due to space): The longest common substring is ABC but it is not I can not see how the description of wiki helps here. ABC is not the deepest internal nodes with leaf nodes. Any help to understand how this works?

The approach I am considering is for each string look at all other strings and find the common characters and where differing characters are, trying to find sets of strings that have the most in common, but I fear that this is not very efficient and may give false positives. Note that this is not the same as 'How do I detect groups of common strings in filenames' because that assumes that a string will always have a series of digits following it. • credit or minclass does not work well with pam_cracklib.so in common-password (opeSuSe 11.3)

  I'm trying to implement password complexities on my pdc. It's a samba PDC with openLDAP backend. I tried cracklib-check but it looks like that I should have a decent and localize version of password library since the library out there usually comes in english. I also have another consideration that we will allow users to use any kind of password - even though it's dictionary based - as long as their passwords integrated with low/upper alphabet, digits, and other characters such as '$' or '_' (pam_cracklib.so calls them as classes). So here is my /etc/pam.d/common-password: #password requisite pam_pwcheck.so nullok cracklib password requisite pam_cracklib.so minclass=4 reject_username ##password requisite pam_cracklib.so \ ## dcredit=-1 ucredit=-1 lcredit=-1 ocredit=-1 reject_username password optional pam_gnome_keyring.so use_autht_ok password required pam_unix2.so use_authtok nullok The first commented line (with #) was the default configuration of openSuse 11.3. The 2nd/3rd (with leading ##) is another configuration I use when minclass=4 line is commented out. By the way, I have 'check password script' = /usr/local/sbin/crackcheck -d /usr/share/cracklib/pw_dict and passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://127.0.0.1 parameters in smb.conf and cracklib-check works fine too. So here is the test I conduct. I logon to windows and then change my password. Sometimes it works fine that it trows error message - which what I wanted, but simple password with only lower alphabets can pass windows change password. Maybe I should make a new library which incorporates local vocabularies, but a guy out there (raise your hand please if you read this :) ) also experienced the same trouble with english word. Besides, what we really want is to let user to choose 2 or 3 format password out of 4 classes. Is there a bug or something with pam module in openSuse 11.3? Thank you in advance. Regards, Mario
