  • How to convert rows of a database query to a XML file?

    - by EASI
I am developing a Delphi application that needs to pick up the rows from a period of work and convert them to a single XML file in order to upload to a 3rd party web-service. Is there any component or library available to do that? If not, what is the best approach of code to build that DB2XML conversor? I noticed that most XML questions are about how to convert it to another type of data. Note: the database will be MySQL or Firebird.

  • What Is The Best Database For Delphi Desktop Applications That Supports Stored Procedures?

    - by Cape Cod Gunny
I started with Turbo Pascal 3, went to TP5, Bought TP6 called Borland the next day and downgraded to TP5.5. Bought Delphi 3, and now have Delphi 5 Enterprise. I sort of lost interest in writing code about 4-5 years ago for two reasons; Spent all day writing ASP & SQL for someone else. PC Techniques magazine went away. I've got a few programs in the shareware market that are solid performers but are in need of serious updating. I love Delphi or did when it was Borland (before Borland bought DBase and all the other crap), I'd like to salvage as much of my D5E code as possible but I doubt I can. I plan on upgrading to Delphi 2010. My next software release needs to interact with a database. I'm very proficient with MS Sql and like to put all of the database code in stored procedures. What is the best database choice that interacts well with Delphi, allows stored procedures and is so easy to deploy that even the Geico gecko could deploy it? 10/25/2009 18:53 PM EST Re-Opened After Reading Install Docs for Delphi 2010 I downloaded a trial version of Delphi 2010 and unzipped the install. I've been reading the install docs included in the package. I started with the install.htm inside the zip package. install.htm wisely tells you to see the following two articles: Installation Notes: http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/39754 Release Notes: http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/39758 the release notes state the following... MSSQL driver requires the installation of the SQL Native Client. SQL Native Client 2008 is required for dbxmss.dll. SQL Native Client 2005 is required for dbxmss9.dll I checked my machine to see if SQL Native Client is installed. Nope. I wasn't done reading the docs so I made a note to install SQL Native Client. I googled dbxmss.dll and dbxmss9.dll and found a very interesting thread on the Embarcadero forums. read thread here. After reading this thread and some careful thought I don't think I will be using Microsoft SQL Express. I can't rely on my customers having the right drivers installed. So, I'm back to looking for a different solution. If I'm selling a $40 product to the general masses I need to have a bulletproof solution that doesn't require my brand new customer to update their machine before my software will work.

  • How to use Crtl in a Delphi unit in a C++Builder project? (or link to C++Builder C runtime library)

    - by Craig Peterson
I have a Delphi unit that is statically linking a C .obj file using the {$L xxx} directive. The C file is compiled with C++Builder's command line compiler. To satisfy the C file's runtime library dependencies (_assert, memmove, etc), I'm including the crtl unit Allen Bauer mentioned here. unit FooWrapper; interface implementation uses Crtl; // Part of the Delphi RTL {$L FooLib.obj} // Compiled with "bcc32 -q -c foolib.c" procedure Foo; cdecl; external; end. If I compile that unit in a Delphi project (.dproj) everthing works correctly. If I compile that unit in a C++Builder project (.cbproj) it fails with the error: [ILINK32 Error] Fatal: Unable to open file 'CRTL.OBJ' And indeed, there isn't a crtl.obj file in the RAD Studio install folder. There is a .dcu, but no .pas. Trying to add crtdbg to the uses clause (the C header where _assert is defined) gives an error that it can't find crtdbg.dcu. If I remove the uses clause, it instead fails with errors that __assert and _memmove aren't found. So, in a Delphi unit in a C++Builder project, how can I export functions from the C runtime library so they're available for linking? I'm already aware of Rudy Velthuis's article. I'd like to avoid manually writing Delphi wrappers if possible, since I don't need them in Delphi, and C++Builder must already include the necessary functions. Edit For anyone who wants to play along at home, the code is available in Abbrevia's Subversion repository at https://tpabbrevia.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/tpabbrevia/trunk. I've taken David Heffernan's advice and added a "AbCrtl.pas" unit that mimics crtl.dcu when compiled in C++Builder. That got the PPMd support working, but the Lzma and WavPack libraries both fail with link errors: [ILINK32 Error] Error: Unresolved external '_beginthreadex' referenced from ABLZMA.OBJ [ILINK32 Error] Error: Unresolved external 'sprintf' referenced from ABWAVPACK.OBJ [ILINK32 Error] Error: Unresolved external 'strncmp' referenced from ABWAVPACK.OBJ [ILINK32 Error] Error: Unresolved external '_ftol' referenced from ABWAVPACK.OBJ AFAICT, all of them are declared correctly, and the _beginthreadex one is actually declared in AbLzma.pas, so it's used by the pure Delphi compile as well. To see it yourself, just download the trunk (or just the "source" and "packages" directories), disable the {$IFDEF BCB} block at the bottom of AbDefine.inc, and try to compile the C++Builder "Abbrevia.cbproj" project.

  • Put message after long idle time does not work

    - by Sydney
I wrote a simple Java client using MQ v7 libraries (No JMS). I try to put a message in a queue using the following pattern: Put a message Wait for x minutes Put a message again It works but if the idle time is too long (between 5-7 minutes), I get the following error: MQJE001: An MQException occurred: Completion Code 2, Reason 2195 MQJE007: IO error reading message data Error occured during API call - reason code0 MQJE001: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 MQJE001: An MQException occurred: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 MQJE003: IO error transmitting message buffer MQJE001: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 MQJE001: An MQException occurred: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 MQJE003: IO error transmitting message buffer MQJE001: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 MQJE001: An MQException occurred: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 MQJE003: IO error transmitting message buffer MQJE001: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 MQJE001: An MQException occurred: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 MQJE003: IO error transmitting message buffer MQJE001: An MQException occurred: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 MQJE003: IO error transmitting message buffer MQJE001: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 An MQSeries error occurred : Completion code 2 Reason code 2009 com.ibm.mq.MQException: MQJE001: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009 at com.ibm.mq.MQQueue.put(MQQueue.java:1511) After reading several threads on the subject, this error is usually creating FDC dumps but I have nothing in the system and queue manager logs. The channel is a SVRCONN channel.

  • Self referencing update SQL statement for Informix

    - by CheeseConQueso
    Need some Informix SQL... Courses get a regular grade, but their associated labs get a grade of 'LAB'. I need to update the table so that the lab grade matches the course grade. Also, if there is no corresponding course for a lab, it means the course was canceled. In that case, I want to place a flag value of 'X' for its grade. Example data before update: id yr sess crs_no hrs grd 725 2009 FA COLL101 3.000000000000 C 725 2009 FA ENGL021 3.000000000000 FI 725 2009 FA ENGL021L 1.000000000000 LAB 725 2009 FA ENGL031 3.000000000000 FNI 725 2009 FA ENGL031L 1.000000000000 LAB 725 2009 FA MATH010 3.000000000000 FNI 725 2010 SP AOTE101 3.000000000000 C 725 2010 SP ENGL021L 1.000000000000 LAB 725 2010 SP ENGL031 3.000000000000 FI 725 2010 SP ENGL031L 1.000000000000 LAB 725 2010 SP MATH010 3.000000000000 FNI 726 2010 SP SPAN101 3.000000000000 FN Example data after update: id yr sess crs_no hrs grd 725 2009 FA COLL101 3.000000000000 C 725 2009 FA ENGL021 3.000000000000 FI 725 2009 FA ENGL021L 1.000000000000 FI 725 2009 FA ENGL031 3.000000000000 FNI 725 2009 FA ENGL031L 1.000000000000 FNI 725 2009 FA MATH010 3.000000000000 FNI 725 2010 SP AOTE101 3.000000000000 C 725 2010 SP ENGL021L 1.000000000000 X 725 2010 SP ENGL031 3.000000000000 FI 725 2010 SP ENGL031L 1.000000000000 FI 725 2010 SP MATH010 3.000000000000 FNI 726 2010 SP SPAN101 3.000000000000 FN I worked out a solution for this, but it required a lot of on-the-fly composite foreign keys built from concatenating the id, yr, sess, and substring'd crs_no. I know there is an easier way to do this, but I've gone so far down one road that I am having trouble thinking of a different approach.

  • How do I install both D2007 and D2010?

    - by DoctorBean
From what I have gathered, one can have both editions of Delphi installed. My concern is that default paths, etc, may get confused especially when installing 3rd party components. The reason why I want to do this is I have some 3rd party components which have not been updated. Although I have the source files, I'm not knowledgeable enough to update them. I have tried compiling it for D2010 and received so many errors that it would be easier to install and use it in D2007. I'm running Windows 7. Thanks in advance.

  • How can a component at designtime determine the project directory

    - by Heinz Z.
Hello, I write a component which should store some information relative to the project directory. Every time a property of my component is changed it should write a file. So how can a component determine the current project directory at design time. Thanks in advance EDIT: I want to generate a delphi source file every time a property of my component is changed, so that I always get the latest version when I compile my code. Think of it as a kind of code generator. At the moment I set whole path and filename where the source should be stored but I prefer a relative path to the project (or the form/datamodule which contains my component) to make it easier to copy the project on different developer machines.

  • Class Type Expected error on TableAdapter constructor

    - by Chris Franz
    I am using Delphi Prism to connect to an Advantage Database Server. I created a connection using the server explorer to the database. I added a dataset object to my project and added a table to the dataset. Everything works fine in the IDE, however, I get an error in the generated designer code on the table adapter constructor. The error is: (PE26) Class type expected. Here is the generated code: { Presidents.PresidentsTableAdapters.USPRESIDENTSTableAdapter } constructor Presidents.PresidentsTableAdapters.USPRESIDENTSTableAdapter; begin self.ClearBeforeFill := true; end;

  • VirtualTreeView add roots with Threads

    - by Benjamin Weiss
I would like to add roots to a VirtualTreeView http://www.delphi-gems.com/index.php/controls/virtual-treeview with a thread like this: function AddRoot ( p : TForm1 ) : Integer; stdcall; begin p.VirtualStringTree1.AddChild(NIL); end; var Dummy : DWORD; i : Integer; begin for i := 0 to 2000 do begin CloseHandle(CreateThread(NIL,0, @ADDROOT, Self,0, Dummy)); end; end; The reason for this is that I want to add all connections from my INDY Server to the TreeView. Indy's onexecute/onconnect get's called as a thread. So if 3+ connections come in at the same time the app crashes due to the TreeView. Same is if a client gets disconnected and I want to delete the Node. I am using Delphi7 and Indy9 Any Idea how to fix that?

  • How can I share an OnEnter event for a TcxGrid ?

    - by Roland Bengtsson
I want to standardize the behaviour on an Devexpress TcxGrid. So I have a unit ClientData with a event: procedure TClientData.grdOnEnter(Sender: TObject); begin mnuCxGridStandardMenu.Grid := TcxGrid(Sender); end; If I try to use that event from a TcxGrid.OnEnter event in another unit it refuse to work. If I paste in ClientData.grdOnEnter then a dialog says it is not an valid identifier. Is it possible to share an event for several units in Delphi 2007 ?

  • How can I detect a debugger or other tool that might be analysing my software?

    - by Workshop Alex
A very simple situation. I'm working on an application in Delphi 2007 which is often compiled as 'Release' but still runs under a debugger. And occasionally it will run under SilkTest too, for regression testing. While this is quite fun I want to do something special... I want to detect if my application is running within a debugger/regression-tester and if that's the case, I want the application to know which tool is used! (Thus, when the application crashes, I could report this information in it's error report.) Any suggestions, solutions?

  • How to align MDIChild on left?

    - by lyborko
Hi, I am trying hard to align MDIChild form to the left of the parent MDIForm setting Align:=alLeft at design time. Aparently aligned MDIChild is higher than parents client area (I do not know why), thats why vertical scrollbar appears on parent form. The problem is, that I want this form create dynamicaly; putting vertical Splitter between these MDIchild forms, in order to size them by mouse. But when I create Splitter it aligns itself totaly on the left, as if MDIChild form was not aligned (alLeft) at all. I set MDIChild parameters to: Align:=alLeft; Windowstate:=wsNormal; Borderstyle:=bsSizable; Does anybody solved this problem before? thanx a lot P.S Delphi 7, Win XP

  • Rtti for Variant Records

    - by Coco
I try to write a kind of object/record serializer with Delphi 2010 and wonder if there is a way to detect, if a record is a variant record. E.g. the TRect record as defined in Types.pas: TRect = record case Integer of 0: (Left, Top, Right, Bottom: Longint); 1: (TopLeft, BottomRight: TPoint); end; As my serializer should work recursively on my data structures, it will descent on the TPoint records and generate redundant information in my serialized file. Is there a way to avoid this, by getting detailed information on the record?

  • Alternatives to connect to ORACLE database server without install the Oracle client.

    - by Salvador
i am looking for an Delphi component to connect to an ORACLE database server in an direct way without install the oracle client. i knew the Oracle Data Access (ODAC) from DevArt. there are any other component with this capability? ODAC offers two connection modes to the Oracle server: connection through the Oracle Call Interface in Client mode and direct connection over TCP/IP in Direct mode. ODAC-based database applications are easy to deploy, do not require installation of other data provider layers. Thanks in advance.

  • Why does Windows 7 change encoding of characters in runtime?

    - by LukLed
I have a delphi form: and my code: when I run this form in Windows 7, I see: In design time, form had polish letters in first label, but it doesn't have them in runtime. It looks ok on Vista or Windows XP. When I set caption of second label in code, everything works fine and characters are properly encoded. First 5 codes of top label on Windows 7: 65 97 69 101 83 First 5 codes of top label on Windows Vista/XP: 165 185 202 234 140 First 5 codes of bottom label on every system: 165 185 202 234 140 Windows 7 changes encoding, why? My system settings seem to be ok. I have proper language set for non-unicode applications in control panel.

  • Is it possible to run a hidden console application from a Windows service?

    - by norgepaul
I've written a server in Delphi 2010 that needs to launch a console application every now and again to back up a database. The console application can send log information to the console window, but it is not required. This works fine when running as an application, but when run as a service I get an access violation when launching the console application. This is the case even if I launch it hidden (SW_HIDE). Is it possible to launch a hidden console application from a Windows service? The solution needs to work on XP, Vista and Windows 7.

  • App disappears from Win7's ALT-TAB list sometimes

    - by Mason Wheeler
I've been having some trouble with one of my Delphi 2010 projects lately. It seems that sometimes, when I have a form open as a modal dialog, the app stops showing up in the ALT-TAB list until I close the dialog. It's still in the Taskbar, but not in ALT-TAB, which means I can't switch to it without using the mouse. Running under Windows 7, 64-bit. Has anyone seen this before? Any idea what causes it and how to fix it?

  • Docking using VCL: How to make vertically docked Forms prevail over horizontally docked Forms?

    - by NineBerry
Hi I am using docking (VCL) in Delphi 7. In my main form, two other forms are docked: One vertically at the left edge, one horizontally at the bottom edge. Problem: The form docked at the bottom edge takes the full width of the form, limiting the height of the form that is docked at the left edge. I would like the opposite behaviour: The vertically docked form taking full height of the form and form docked at the bottom to be restricted in width. That's how it looks like currently: That's how I want it to look like: Thanks

  • Delphi Exception Handling - How to clean up properly?

    - by Tom
I'm looking at some code in an application of ours and came across something a little odd from what I normally do. With exception handling and cleanup, we (as well as many other programmers out there, I'm sure) use a Try/Finally block embedded with a Try/Except block. Now I'm used to the Try/Except inside the Try/Finally like so: Try Try CouldCauseError(X); Except HandleError; end; Finally FreeAndNil(x); end; but this other block of code is reversed as so: Try Try CouldCauseError(X); Finally FreeAndNil(x); end; Except HandleError; end; Looking around the web, I'm seeing folks doing this both ways, with no explanation as to why. My question is, does it matter which gets the outside block and which gets the inside block? Or will the except and finally sections get handled no matter which way it is structured? Thanks.

  • Delphi app manifest file problems under WinXP and Win7

    - by Ronaldo Junior
My last question "List service and services status under Win-7" made me start working on a solution that gives my app the admin privileges under Windows Vista onward based on a .manifest file. I was not sure about continue the previous question with this matter since they are not the same so here is another question: My app now works fine under Win 7 whether or not I run it "as admin" because of the manifest file. My manifest file is as follow: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> <assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0"> <assemblyIdentity version="1.6.0.5" processorArchitecture="X86" name="ServiceMonitorPro" type="win32"/> <description publisher="Powershield Ltd" product="Powershield Service Monitor">Powershield Service Monitor</description> <trustInfo xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v2"> <security> <requestedPrivileges> <requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator" uiAccess="false"/> </requestedPrivileges> </security> </trustInfo> </assembly> When the application runs on windows 7 or Vista, the UAC comes with a dialog like this: How can I replace the "unknow" publisher? The other and bigest problem is, even thou the app runs with no problem under Win7 or Vista, under WinXP it is now crashing with the message: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." Another thing I would like to add: If I add reference (uses clause) to XPMan the app works fine on WinXP but then it my .manifest file makes no diference under Vista or Win7.

  • Get the rendered text from HTML (Delphi)

    - by Daisetsu
I have some HTML and I need to extract the actual written text from the page. So far I have tried using a web browser and rendering the page, then going to the document property and grabbing the text. This works, but only where the browser is supported (IE com object). The problem is I want this to be able to run under wine also, so I need a solution that doesn't use IE COM. There must be a programatic way to do this that is reasonable.
