  • How do I create the "Gnome-Desktop-Item-Edit" program's launch icon with root privileges and more?

    I personally dont prefer running commands in terminal to achieve a task and prefer apps to execute the job. Creating launcher for apps is one such command where I prefer the gnome-desktop-item-edit application for creating launchers. If the gnome package is installed, just searching "create launcher" opens the app. But, it doesnt serve any purpose, because for starters the application cannot create launchers for various apps without root permission and the location where the apps have to be created. Usually the launcher apps with root permission can be created at /usr/share/applications and without root permission at /.local/share/applications. I dont prefer the latter location as it is vulnerable to deletion. Hence, in order to create the launchers through gnome with root, everytime I am forced to open this through terminal using the below command! $ sudo gnome-desktop-item-edit ~/.local/share/applications --create-new I dont want to open terminal everytime I want to create an application launcher on unity! I am able to lock the "Create Launcher" App in the Launcher, but not with root privileges So I want to be able to create the "Create Launcher" app shortcut on unity with default root privileges and for the app to create the launchers at usr/share/applications by default! Please help! P.S. I dont have enough rep points to add screenshots to help with the question!

  • How to edit gnome/unity menus without using Alacarte?

    Alacarte crashes every time I attempt to edit a submenu or move an item from one submenu to another and then I'd have to wipe the application.menu files or my gnomeshell desktop would be useless. Is there a way to organize my main menu and unity dash applications subcategories without using Alacarte? I've got so many items installed in the wrong category and I'd also like to remove a ton of zombie icons.

    One of the New User Interface Platforms in SharePoint 2010 is ‘The Dialog Platform’ A dialog is essentially a <div> which gets visible on demand and renders the HTML using a background overlay creating a modal dialog like user experience. We can show an existing div from within the page or a different page using a URL inside the dialogs. When we pass the URL to the dialog it looks for the Querystring parameter “IsDlg=1”. If this parameters exists than it would dynamically load the "/_layouts/styles/dlgframe.css” file. This file overrides the “s4-notdlg” class items as “display:none”, which means that all items with this class would not get displayed in Dialog Mode.  So if we go to the v4.master page we can see that this class is used by the Ribbon control to hide the ribbon when in dialog mode: How to open the Edit Form Dialog for List Item: In SharePoint 2010 The URL for opening the Edit Form of any list item looks like something like this : http://intranet.contoso.com/<SiteName>/Lists/<ListName>/EditForm.aspx?ID=1&IsDlg=1 ID is the list item row identifier and as discussed above the IsDlg is for the dialog mode.     After I installed Ubuntu 12.04 got some issues with my touchpad. I reported the problem and finally today a guy replied here - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/992330 It seems that the solution was good because I edited HorizHysteresis and VertHysteresis using synclient: synclient VertHysteresis=48 and synclient HorizHysteresis=48 To see if they were really edited I run into terminal synclient and just seen there the values I added. Everything is running perfectly till now. But after I restarted Ubuntu the values are gone and rolled back to default. A guy told me to edit the xorg.conf file but there is no xorg.conf file in etc/X11. Thanks and hope someone can give me a good solution.

  • Which libappmenu.so must I edit under GTK 3.0 to remove Eclipse from the HUD blacklist?

    Under GTK 2.10.0 one could allow HUD for Eclipse by replacing Eclipse with Xclipse in: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/menuproxies/libappmenu.so After doing an update, this file dissapeared from the GTK 2.10 and now I'm guessing I should do the same edit in: /usr/lib/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/menuproxies/libappmenu.so Only problem is that there is no such file ;-) I did find a similarly named file: /usr/lib/indicators/7/libappmenu.so But don't know if that is the right place to mess with it. If anyone has an updated answer for enabling the heads up display (cool menu at the top) for Eclipse under the latest Ubuntu 12.10 will you kindly share it?

    When setting up Profile Manager in Lion Server, there are a few web pages that are generated for web management of both devices and profiles. Is it possible to edit these pages in any way? I am just looking to customize the look and feel without changing the functionality. If editing is possible, where are these pages stored? I have looked through the /Library/Server/ProfileManager and /Library/Server/Web folders without any luck. This is one particular page I would like to edit. Ideally I would like to be able to edit the HTML directly. I am looking to match the page's style with a variety of other pages hosted on the server.

    I recently created a .html file in text edit on my mac (os x 10.5.8). I then opened that .html file in my browser and it showed the page i created just fine. I closed the .html file and text edit and refreshed the page. It still worked fine. Then i opened up the .html file in text edit again and all the text was gone (the page in the browser still works fine though). Where did all the text go?

    I have my local development machine running Arch Linux, Nginx, PHP-FPM and MySQL. In order for the websites I am working on to run the files need to be owned by the http user. The files are currently located in folders like this: /srv/http/site1/ /srv/http/site2/ When I use the following chown command on the http folder the sites work fine, but I cannot edit the files with my user: chown -R http.users /srv/http When I do this the sites do not work, but I can edit the files: chown -R shane.http /srv/http How can I make it so that my user can edit the files, and the web server can run them at the same time?   • Read-only lock on a SharePoint site collection, or Why can't I edit anymore?

    Monday morning, the calls started.  For some reason, long-time users were unable to edit list items.  I figured we had a permissions issue, so I popped in to look at the Site Settings -- and found that I couldn't.  A quick trip to Central Administration showed that I was still listed as a Site Collection Administrator, but I had no power at all on the site collection in question.A quick glance at the logs told me that the server had recently shut down unexpectedly (this is a Hyper-V virtual machine).  Apparently, in the confusion, somehow SharePoint decided to lock the site collection as Read Only.  This can be remedied in one of two ways:1)  In Central Administration, go to Application Management->SharePoint Site Management->Site collection quotas and locks.  Once you have arrived, select the correct application and site collection, and you will have the opportunity to view and set the lock status of the collection (it most likely will be set to "Read-only", and you'll want to move that radio button to "Not locked").2)  Fire up stsadm and issue the following command:stsadm -o setsitelock -url http://myportalsitecollection -lock none

    I am trying to see if a process is running on multiple servers and then format it into a table. get-process -ComputerName server1,server2,server3 -name explorer | Select-Object processname,machinename Thats the easy part - When the process does not exist or if the server is unavailable, powershell outputs a big ugly error, messes up the the table and doesn't continue. Example Get-Process : Couldn't connect to remote machine.At line:1 char:12 + get-process <<<< -ComputerName server1,server2,server3 -name explorer | format-table processname,machinename + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [Get-Process], InvalidOperatio nException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : System.InvalidOperationException,Microsoft.Power Shell.Commands.GetProcessCommand How do I get around this? If the I would still like to get notified if the process isn't available or Running.

    I'd like to edit application specific clipboard content, with an application specific format. There are clipboard managers that let me edit the plain text content, but I'd like to access clipboard content that application use for internal cut and paste. An example would be when you copy something from a web page in Firefox. When you look at the different formats in a clipboard viewer, there are three or so formats starting with "moz", with content that is not plain text. I'd like to edit that content before pasting it back into Firefox. Can this be done?

  • How can I continue audio playback even after switching user?

    I just tested it with iTunes; after switching the user account (only after logging into another account, to be precise) the audio playback from the account "A" stops. However iTunes continues playing in the background; which I realized after switching back to account "A". Very frustrating because it kind-of is a deal-breaker for me; the other person should be able to have some personalized settings; while it is still my computer, and the main account has all the music obviously. The ideal solution would be audio output continuing running while user still has the ability to manually pause it... EDIT: I tested a bit more: "Desktop" apps like VLC don't output sound but continue running; the stock Music.app in Metro pauses the music and continues playing when switching back.

    A guy came to me there recently with a half done web app that has been created using VB.NET, nothing major, just a normal site. His original programmer couldn't continue so he wants me to finish it. Problem is I don't program using VB.NET nor have I any intention of learning it for a project this small. Usually I would run from something like this but I need the cash. Should I take the project and continue it using C# or just leave it. Has anyone had a similar experience and how did it turn out.
