  • vim on Windows -Turn syntax highlighting OFF

    I have downloaded Vim 7.4 on Windows 7 64 bit, and would like to turn off syntax highlighting. I have been using Vim for a long time on Unix, so I know to place "syntax off" in my vimrc. However, even though "syntax off" is in my vimrc, for some reason when I edit my vimrc the syntax highlighting is always on. I have deleted every other vimrc on my system (listed in the output of :version) except for my $HOME\_vimrc, but the syntax highlighting is still there (even after creating new cmd's). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • kubuntu 12.10 will not boot on mac 2.93Ghz intel core 2 duo

    I feel like I've tried it all and nothing is changing. I've tried booting from a liveUSB, a liveDVD, and I've checked the mod5 everything matches up. I've even tried different distro's same result on all of them. Just for reference: linuxmint 13kde and Fedora 17. I've also tried changing my liveUSB building software just in case. I've tried unetbootin and Linux USB builder. Both have same results, my opinion is that it is a hardware issue since I'm having near the same result with all of these variables. So now what is actually happening? I can boot up to a screen. I say A screen because some of the ways that dvd's and usb's boot differs. Now on liveusb I'm reaching a black screen with white text. Says booting: done, then below says loading ramdrive: done, then below that it says preparing to boot kernel this may take a while and buckle in or something to that effect. Then nothing. That's it computer freezes. I've waited up to 8 hrs and still nothing. Ok for the liveDVD Everything goes according to instructions per pdf files on every distro, until linux starts. I can only run in compatibility mode. When any other option is tried the computer seems to freeze/stall/be a pain in my butt... Ok well that seems to wrap it up. Also if I'm not explaining something well, I'm sorry I can try to clear anything up. I'm not the best at descriptions. I'm leaving with a tech specs of my mac: 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB ram, NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 graphics, bought in late 09" it's the 24" model, let me know if anymore information will help.     I have an Intel dual port pcie NIC card with two 82576 interfaces according to ubuntu 12.04. I run the command sudo lshw -html > /home/melman/Documents/hardware.html and it shows both of the interfaces but they're grayed out?!   • intel atom getting too hot

    I own an Asus 1215N which is getting very hot Intel Atom 525D dual core ION 2 (geforce 220 + GMA 3150) 4 GB RAM Ubuntu 12.04 it hits 86 C at idle. Some times (at load or turned on 1 hour) it shuts down due to heat, in Windows 7 it runs idle at 49 C. I tried an acpi call to shut down the nVidia chip which is cooled together with the Atom chip. That didn't solve the problem. To check up to see if it really turned off I checked how much power the laptop consumed, it only went from using 1400 mW to 860 mW, no changes in heat. I also tried reapply the standard heat adhesive, the old heat adhesive made it run at 97 (it couldn't even put up a useful install of Ubuntu). This really annoys me, as Ubuntu is the OS of choice to me. Should I try compile the kernel? Is it true that compile for a P4 is the better choice to the atom, when compiling the kernel for this processor architecture? Now I tried compiling the kernel for atom. Now temperature is 83 C (think the drop has more to do with ambient temp than the customized kernel) help appreciated

  • What is the full "for" loop syntax in C (and others in case they are compatible) ?

    I have seen some very weird for loops when reading other people's code. I have been trying to search for a full syntax explanation for the for loop in C but it is very hard because the word "for" appears in unrelated sentences making the search almost impossible to Google effectively. This question came to my mind after reading this thread which made me curious again. The for here: for(p=0;p+=(a&1)*b,a!=1;a>>=1,b<<=1); In the middle condition there is a comma separating the two pieces of code, what does this comma do? The comma on the right side I understand as it makes both a>>=1 and b<<=1. But within a loop exit condition, what happens? Does it exit when p==0, when a==1 or when both happen? It would be great if anyone could help me understand this and maybe point me in the direction of a full for loop syntax description.

  • Can Visual Studio 2010 do ".inc" file syntax highlighting?

    Can Visual Studio 2010 be configured to do syntax highlighting on ".inc" files? We have numerous large projects with tons of these ".inc" files (asp files) and so changing the file extension to ".asp" is not an option. All I want Visual Studio 2010 to do is treat these ".inc" files just like ".asp" files when it comes to syntax highlighting. I've tried "Open With..." and selected the HTML Editor, which is the ".asp" default, but that did not work. I tried about every other editor in the list and none of them worked. I know Notepad++ (among others) can do this, but I would prefer this be done in Visual Studio 2010 - using another IDE or text editor is not the answer I'm looking for here. Many many thanks to anyone who knows how to configure VS 2010 to do this, I've wasted soooo much time looking for a way to do this. Even registry hacks are welcome. Thanks for any feedback you can provide!

  • How do I get Xcode and TextMate to calibrate syntax highlighting colours the same way?

    This is a mostly insignificant problem, but it's been bugging me for a while and I figured someone on here might be as ridiculously OCD as I am (this is a programmer community after all). Basically, the problem is that TextMate doesn't seem to calibrate syntax highlighting colours, while Xcode does. What this means in practice is that, while I've faithfully recreated my TextMate theme in Xcode, the syntax highlighting in Xcode seems noticeably less vivid that it does in TextMate. If I use DigitalColor Meter to check the actual colours in Xcode, they don't match the values I entered, while in TextMate they do. Any ideas what's going on here? Thanks!

    I have the following bash code, which is copied and pasted from "bash cookbook" (1st edition): #!/bin/bash VERBOSE=0; if [[ $1 =-v ]] then VERBOSE=1; shift; fi When I run this (bash 4.0.33), I get the following syntax error: ./test.sh: line 4: conditional binary operator expected ./test.sh: line 4: syntax error near `=-v' ./test.sh: line 4: `if [[ $1 =-v ]]' Is this as simple as a misprint in the bash cookbook, or is there a version incompatibility or something else here? What would the most obvious fix be? I've tried various combinations of changing the operator, but I'm not really familiar with bash scripting.

  • Why is Python 3.1.3 in the header listed as a syntax error?

    Hi, I'm a newbie programmer so I'll do my best to clearly ask my question. I'm running Python scripts in Mac 10.6.5 and now trying to write and save to a text file (following instructions in HeadsUp Python book). Whenever I hit function+F5 (as instructed) I get the same "invalid syntax" error and Idle highlights the "1" in "Python 3.1.3" of the header. Here's the header to which I'm referring: Python 3.1.3 (r313:86882M, Nov 30 2010, 09:55:56) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5494)] on darwin Type "copyright", "credits" or "license()" for more information. Extremely frustrating. I've checked and rechecked the code but this doesn't seem to be code related because the "syntax error" is in regards to the header text that posts in every Idle/Python session. Help anyone? I just got an offer from a dedicated hosting company, offering me a box with "2 Core 2 Quad processors @ 6GHz" I didn't know we could get 6GHz, and some googling turned out a bunch of people getting that, after overclocking like crazy, which seems to confirm my suspicion. Are there hostings offering 6GHz CPUs, or are these people outright lying to me? Thank you!

    A question related to Regular cast vs. static_cast vs. dynamic_cast: What cast syntax style do you prefer in C++? C-style cast syntax: (int)foo C++-style cast syntax: static_cast<int>(foo) constructor syntax: int(foo) They may not translate to exactly the same instructions (do they?) but their effect should be the same (right?). If you're just casting between the built-in numeric types, I find C++-style cast syntax too verbose. As a former Java coder I tend to use C-style cast syntax instead, but my local C++ guru insists on using constructor syntax. What do you think?

  • Lenovo ThinkCentre DisplayPort not working

    I installed Xubuntu 13.04, Zorin 7, and finally Ubuntu 13.04 on a Lenovo M58. The BIOS works fine on my DisplayPort monitor but Ubuntu will only work on the SVGA. The graphics are on-board: Intel Q45/Q43 x86/MMX/SSE2 I installed and ran the new Intel Driver Manager. It seemed to complete all tasks without any errors, but the DisplayPort still only works for the BIOS. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Since version 10.04 I have problems with Ubuntu (I think) my graphics card. This problem arises especially when working with graphics or CPU usage much. The problem is that it breaks the GUI as you see in the image and the entire computer is very slow. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 and have a Intel graphics card 945G x86/MMX/SSE2.     I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and absolutely love it , but when i go to system details it says graphics unknown, is this a problem ? i have a acer aspire 5750, and a Intel 3000 HD graphics card.There also no additional drivers to be installed, but on another computer i needed to install additional drivers and it showed the grapics card. is there a problem with intel graphics in combination with ubuntu ?

  • When will we get Sandy Bridge support?

    I'd like to build a machine running Ubuntu and using the new Sandy bridge (i5 2500 specifically) intel cpu's. I heard that 10.10 doesn't have the best support (or simply won't work) with the new cpus and 1155 mobos. I'm assuming that 11.04 will have support but do the alpha's have it already? Or will I have to wait? Also, I plan to use the onboard Intel graphics (H67 mobo), will there be support for this or will I still need to use a graphic's card?

    I upgraded my Ubuntu 8.04 to Ubuntu 10.04. When I try to enable desktop effects it says "Desktop effects could not be enabled". The output of "lspci | grep VGA" is : 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03) Hardware drivers says there is no propriority hardware driver. I installed nVidia driver but I think my is an Intel graphics device. Please help.
