  I have 3 year old website which has been hit by Penguin 2.0 in May. The website traffic dropped almost 30%. I have been working hard from last 2.5 months on the website and my website's traffic recovered in last week of August. In fact, I am receiving more traffic then ever. When I look at the stats, I find my website's search engine visibility has been improved. It is now appearing for more search queries. My website's impressions have also increased. What I am worried about is that my website is nowhere in top 5 pages for keywords having high competition and carrying the highest search volume. They are few in number but important. Should I consider my current situation as recovery or it's just the partial recovery? If it is only partial, then how come traffic is more then it was before penguin 2.0?

• Creating a bootable USB recovery drive to be used by someone who isn't computer savvy

  I am looking for a way to prepare an image of an Ubuntu machine which would be bootable and installable in the easiest way possible. I'm actually preparing an Ubuntu machine for someone living far, and not computer savvy. If he ever has troubles with his installation, he could just put a USB drive in, boot the machine and everything would be resetted for him. I know there are many methods of creating/loading an image of a drive, but the ones I've found so far have complicated menus with several options to choose from, etc. Ideally, perhaps only asking a Yes/No question such as "Would you like to reinstall?" would be great. Does such a tool exist? Thank you in advance!

  I am an old Windows PC gamer, now converted into Ubuntu (Linux) lover. I am even going so far as to attempt to replace all my games in a Windows dual-boot with Wine and it is going well. However... Even if Linux is less prone to crashing, games, especially the windows ones (but also a few native) can crash. My problem is when this is in full screen and the computer becomes non-responsive. In Windows you can solve this with ctrl+alt+delete, but Ubuntu lacks this feature and my only choice is a reboot. Is there any Ubuntu version of this feature? Of course excepting the ctrl+alt+F1, find and kill process method. It is fine if you know how to do it, but too slow and difficult for the typical gamer. I believe strongly in Ubuntu as the future gaming platform in one form or another. If this feature does not exist, then the Ubuntu team should address this as fast as possible, since it is critical for all old Windows gamers. Thank you for your time. Asavar Tzeth (Alias)

  I have a site, which is a spiritual site and has nothing to do with commercial or business thing. It was in the first page with the keyword RADHANATH SWAMI. Then suddenly, in sep'13, the site went out from google search. When I checked my WebmasterTools, I saw that there were 40,000 backlinks from a site named http://freeguestbooks.net. But manual action section in WebmasterToolssaid "No Manual webspam actions found" and till date, it shows the same. Then I contacted the webmaster of freeguestbooks.net and requested him to remove the 40K odd backlinks and he very kindly removed it. The WebmasterTools now shows 21,777 backlinks from this site. But since 2 months, the decrease rate of these backlinks is very slow, almost zero. Again, I had contacted the webmaster of freeguestbooks.net and he confirmed that there are no backlinks pointing to his site. I am also told that my anchor text is over-optimised... Total backlinks to my site as per WebmasterTools is only 24,937 out of which 21,777 are the links from freeguestbooks.net as shown in WebmasterTools. • External hard drive failing, is backup recovery possible?

  I have a Seagate Freeagent external hard drive. While I was backing it up on Windows XP my pc crashed and I received the horrifying "Delayed Write Error" when I rebooted citing "$MFT" and a few other files. I tried to unmount it, but to no avail. Now my pc just crashes when I try to access it via Windows. In Ubuntu I am able to view it through disk utility. SMART status is "DISK FAILURE IMMINENT". Fdisk doesn't work, and the SMART tests fail on "Reallocated Sector Count". Is there any way for me to rescue any of my data. I can still access the drive but as soon as I do that it crashes.

• How do I recover my accidentally lost Windows partitions after installing Ubuntu?

  I have a Toshiba satellite A-200 laptop with a Vista OS on it with 4 NTFS partitions (C:) Vista (D:) Entertainment (E:) Work (F:) Sources and I wanted to start using Ubuntu instead. So I tried it first from the live CD and everything was OK and all the partitions were shown and working and so I decided to install Ubuntu to replace Vista on the (C:) drive. After I did that I can no longer find my folders and files on the (D:), (E:), (F:) partitions and the only file system that is shown is one 198 GB although my HDD is 320 GB. I can't access the lost data on the remaining 120 GB which I hope is still there and not totally lost I am now working from the live CD but I am unable to install testdisk. Can I recover the Vista partitions by the product recovery CD to get my laptop back to the factory settings? Can I recover the NTFS partitions using a recovery program for Windows or will that make the problem worse? I need these data badly as I don't have a backup for them.

• System crashed while upgrading, now unable to recover. Please help

  Yesterday while upgrading from 11.4 to 11.10, due to power cut my system crashed. Ubuntu is unable to boot. While booting I get two options in grub, one is for recovery mode and the other is for normal ubuntu booting (and others are also thr for mem check and booting to windows). When I try to boot it normally, it pauses booting while displaying ' Checking battery statues' . Though i am not using a laptop, I am on a desktop. And In recovery mode the menu has 4 options - resume boot, fsck , remount and root ( to goto shell prompt) . If I go to shell and type ' apt-get dist upgrade' , it shows - W: not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock E:unable to write to /var/cache/apt E:The package lists or status files could not be parsed or opened. Please instruct me to recover from this situation.

  Hello, does difference between timezones on Windows Server 2008 where backup was made and reovery console makes difference? Recovery console (wbadmin from command line too) is not finding any backup on local hard drive connected to server.   I'm curious if it is possible to mount a partition encrypted by cryptsetup with LUKS securely and automatically on Ubuntu 10.0.4 LTS. For example, if I use the key for the encrypted partition, than that key has to be presented on a device that is not encrypted and if someone steals my disk they'll be able to find the key and decrypt the partition. • Mac: Resize windows partition w/o destroying data?

  Is there a method/utility to actively resize the partitions on a dual-boot macbook air, without destroying the contents? I made the Windows Partition too small initially, and all the places I've looked have stated that resizing now using bootcamp will destroy all data on the Win7 Partition. I would prefer free, but I'm open to a reasonably priced utility that can grow the Win7 partition into the available space (I can use bootcamp to shrink the OSX partition without any problems).

  How can I have recovery partition at the HDD end? My aim is to have data partition installed on fastest sectors of my hard drive, as I don't really care if restoring operations are slow... During Windows installation, when I create a partition, I get immediately created EFI and recovery ones just before the actual data partition. EFI position is good, I want my PC boot fast, but I want to move partitions I don't care about speed. I've also considered GParted, but I think I'm not able to use it :P

• How can I recover a huge folder that's been converted to a zero kb file on an NTFS partition?

  I have a 1TB drive with two 500GB partitions. One of them is being used as a Mac OS X Time Machine back up drive and the other one was NTFS and being used for storage. I had my entire 'iTunes Music' folder stored on it. Recently, there were some errors on the NTFS drive that caused chkdsk to run when in Windows, and it removed a lot of corrupt files. In this process, it converted my 'iTunes Music' folder into one zero KB file. How can I recover this? The partitions are intact and the other data on the disk is still accessible. It's just the 'iTunes Music' folder that's gone.
