  • Strange python error

    - by Werner
    Hi, I am trying to write a python program that calculates a histogram, given a list of numbers like: 1 3 2 3 4 5 3.2 4 2 2 so the input parameters are the filename and the number of intervals. The program code is: #!/usr/bin/env python import os, sys, re, string, array, math import numpy Lista = [] db = sys.argv[1] db_file = open(db,"r") ic=0 nintervals= int(sys.argv[2]) while 1: line = db_file.readline() if not line: break ll=string.split(line) #print ll[6] Lista.insert(ic,float(ll[0])) ic=ic+1 lmin=min(Lista) print "min= ",lmin lmax=max(Lista) print "max= ",lmax width=666.666 width=(lmax-lmin)/nintervals print "width= ",width nelements=len(Lista) print "nelements= ",nelements print " " Histogram = numpy.zeros(shape=(nintervals)) for item in Lista: #print item int_number = 1 + int((item-lmin)/width) print " " print "item,lmin= ",item,lmin print "(item-lmin)/width= ",(item-lmin)," / ",width," ====== ",(float(item)-float(lmin))/float(width) print "int((item-lmin)/width)= ",int((item-lmin)/width) print item , " belongs to interval ", int_number, " which is from ", lmin+width*(int_number-1), " to ",lmin+width*int_number Histogram[int_number] = Histogram[int_number] + 1 4 but somehow I am completely lost, I get strange errors, can anybody help¿ Thanks

  • Remove \r from a string in C++

    - by Werner
    Hi, in a C++ program, there is a point when it reads a string like: "NONAME_1_1\r" the \r is causing me trouble. I guess it prints or adds something like "^M". Is it right? Anyway it casues me problem, and I want to get rid of it. I can not modify the input. I wonder how could I at this point, using C++, and in the easiest way, to remove \r for this string. I know how to do it on bash but no clue on C++. Thanks.

  • Ruby Debug IDE error : ruby-debug-ide-0.4.9/lib/ruby-debug-ide.rb:109:in `debug_load'

    - by Paul
    I hope someone can assist me. I have RubyMine 2.0.2 installed on Windows 7 32 bit computer. Since a week ago (I presume it must have been after I have update some gems) I cant seem to debug form the IDE. I am trying to debug a rake task which I could before. Running the rake task normally works perfect, just debug doesnt. Its not just limited to the rake, I cant debug any ruby files. I've tried installing older versions of debug-ide and debug-base but to no success. I've tried it with ruby 1.8.7 and 1.8.6 on different computers but nothing. Trying to search the web gave some information, which I've tried, but also no success. Im desperate to get this working. Below are the full error and my current settings: Error: C:\InstantRails\ruby\bin\ruby.exe -e STDOUT.sync=true;STDERR.sync=true;load($0=ARGV.shift) C:\InstantRails\ruby\bin/rdebug-ide --port 57167 -- C:/InstantRails/rails_apps/paperserve/lib/tasks/poll_snmp.rake Fast Debugger (ruby-debug-ide 0.4.9) listens on :57167 C:/InstantRails/rails_apps/paperserve/lib/tasks/poll_snmp.rake:5 C:/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ruby-debug-ide-0.4.9/lib/ruby-debug ide.rb:109:in `debug_load' C:/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ruby-debug-ide-0.4.9/lib/ruby-debug ide.rb:109:in `debug_program' C:/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ruby-debug-ide-0.4.9/bin/rdebug-ide:87 C:\InstantRails\ruby\bin/rdebug-ide:19:in `load' C:\InstantRails\ruby\bin/rdebug-ide:19 -e:1:in `load' -e:1 Uncaught exception: undefined method `namespace' for main:Object Process finished with exit code 1 Code snippet (It fails at the start of namespace. Hi, I am having problems with the google maps API V3. It seems that every time I load my page the maps load (including the markers) and then it does a quick reload and removes all the markers. Am I missing somehting? What am I doing wrong? • Getting an invalidoperationexception when deserialising XML

    - by Paul Johnson
    Hi, I'm writing a simple proof of concept application to load up an XML file and depending on the very simple code, create a window and put something into it (it's for a much larger project). Due to limitations in Mono, I'm having to run in this way. The code I currently have looks like this using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Data; using System.Drawing; using System.Windows.Forms; using System.IO; using System.Collections; using System.Xml; using System.Xml.Serialization; namespace form_from_xml { public class xmlhandler : Form { public void loaddesign() { FormData f; f = null; try { string path_env = Path.GetDirectoryName(Application.ExecutablePath) + Path.DirectorySeparatorChar; // code dies on the line below XmlSerializer s = new XmlSerializer(typeof(FormData)); TextReader r = new StreamReader(path_env + "designer-test.xml"); f = (FormData)s.Deserialize(r); r.Close(); } catch (System.IO.FileNotFoundException) { MessageBox.Show("Unable to find the form file", "File not found", MessageBoxButtons.OK); } } } [XmlRoot("Forms")] public class FormData { private ArrayList formData; public FormData() { formData = new ArrayList(); } [XmlElement("Element")] public Elements[] elements { get { Elements[] elements = new Elements[formData.Count]; formData.CopyTo(elements); return elements; } set { if (value == null) return; Elements[] elements = (Elements[])value; formData.Clear(); foreach (Elements element in elements) formData.Add(element); } } public int AddItem(Elements element) { return formData.Add(element); } } public class Elements { [XmlAttribute("formname")] public string name; [XmlAttribute("winxsize")] public int winxs; [XmlAttribute("winysize")] public int winys; [XmlAttribute("type")] public object type; [XmlAttribute("xpos")] public int xpos; [XmlAttribute("ypos")] public int ypos; [XmlAttribute("externaldata")] public bool external; [XmlAttribute("externalplace")] public string externalplace; [XmlAttribute("text")] public string text; [XmlAttribute("questions")] public bool questions; [XmlAttribute("questiontype")] public object qtype; [XmlAttribute("numberqs")] public int numberqs; [XmlAttribute("answerfile")] public string ansfile; [XmlAttribute("backlink")] public int backlink; [XmlAttribute("forwardlink")] public int forwardlink; public Elements() { } public Elements(string fn, int wx, int wy, object t, int x, int y, bool ext, string extpl, string te, bool q, object qt, int num, string ans, int back, int end) { name = fn; winxs = wx; winys = wy; type = t; xpos = x; ypos = y; external = ext; externalplace = extpl; text = te; questions = q; qtype = qt; numberqs = num; ansfile = ans; backlink = back; forwardlink = end; } } } With a very simple xmlhandler xml = new xmlhander(); xml.loaddesign(); attached to a winform button. Everything is in the same namespace and the xml file actually exists. This is annoying me now - can anyone spot the error of my ways? Paul

  • Add options to select box without Internet Explorer closing the box?

    - by Paul Colby
    Hi, I'm trying to build a web page with a number of drop-down select boxes that load their options asynchronously when the box is first opened. This works very well under Firefox, but not under Internet Explorer. Below is a small example of what I'm trying to achieve. Basically, there is a select box (with the id "selectBox"), which contains just one option ("Any"). Then there is an onmousedown handler that loads the other options when the box is clicked. <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function appendOption(select,option) { try { selectBox.add(option,null); // Standards compliant. } catch (e) { selectBox.add(option); // IE only version. } } function loadOptions() { // Simulate an AJAX request that will call the // loadOptionsCallback function after 500ms. setTimeout(loadOptionsCallback,500); } function loadOptionsCallback() { var selectBox = document.getElementById('selectBox'); var option = document.createElement('option'); option.text = 'new option'; appendOption(selectBox,option); } </script> </head> <body> <select id="selectBox" onmousedown="loadOptions();"> <option>Any</option> </select> </body> </html> The desired behavior (which Firefox does) is: the user see's a closed select box containing "Any". the user clicks on the select box. the select box opens to reveal the one and only option ("Any"). 500ms later (or when the AJAX call has returned) the dropped-down list expands to include the new options (hard coded to 'new option' in this example). So that's exactly what Firefox does, which is great. However, in Internet Explorer, as soon as the new option is added in "4" the browser closes the select box. The select box does contain the correct options, but the box is closed, requiring the user to click to re-open it. So, does anyone have any suggestions for how I can load the select control's options asynchronously without IE closing the drop-down box? I know that I can load the list before the box is even clicked, but the real form I'm developing contains many such select boxes, which are all interrelated, so it will be much better for both the client and server if I can load each set of options only when needed. Also, if the results are loaded synchronously, before the select box's onmousedown handler completes, then IE will show the full list as expected - however, synchronous loading is a bad idea here, since it will completely "lock" the browser while the network requests are taking place. Finally, I've also tried using IE's click() method to open the select box once the new options have been added, but that does not re-open the select box. Any ideas or suggestions would be really appreciated!! :) Thanks! Paul.

  • using ajax to post comments in cakephp results in 404 error, but no errors locally?

    - by Paul
    Using an ajax helper created for use with Jquery I've created a form that posts comments to "/comments/add", and this works as expected on my local wamp server but not on my production server. On my production server I get a '404 error, cannot find /comments/add'. I've spent quite a bit of time searching for a resolution with no luck so far. I've focused on trying to identify a gap but nothing jumps out at me. Here are some observations: works as expected on local wamp server requestHandler is listed as component files on both local and production server are the same controllers folder has write access autoLayout and autoRender are both set to false Here is the form in my view: <div class="comments form"> <?php echo $ajax->form('/comments/add', 'tournament', array('url' => '/comments/add', 'update' => 'Comments', 'indicator' => 'commentSaved'));?> <fieldset> <legend><?php __('Add Comment');?></legend> <div id="commentSaved" style="display: none; float: right;"> <h2>Loading...</h2> </div> <?php echo $form->hidden('Comment.foreign_id', array('value' => $tournament['Tournament']['id'])); echo $form->hidden('Comment.belongs_to', array('value' => 'Tournament')); echo $form->input('Comment.name'); echo $form->input('Comment.email'); echo $form->input('Comment.web', array('value' => 'http://')); echo $form->input('Comment.content'); ?> </fieldset> <?php echo $form->end('Submit');?> </div> And here is my 'comment's controller add action: function add() { if($this->RequestHandler->isAjax()) { $this->autoLayout = false; $this->autoRender=false; $this->Comment->recursive =-1; $commentInfos = $this->Comment->findAllByIp($_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']); $spam = FALSE; foreach($commentInfos as $commentInfo) { if ( time() - strtotime($commentInfo['Comment']['created']) < 180) { $spam = TRUE; } } if ($spam === FALSE) { if (!empty($this->data)) { $this->data['Comment']['ip'] = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; $this->Comment->create(); if ($this->Comment->save($this->data)) { $this->Comment->recursive =-1; $comments = $this->Comment->findAll(array('Comment.foreign_id' => $this->data['Comment']['foreign_id'], 'Comment.belongs_to' => $this->data['Comment']['belongs_to'], 'Comment.status' =>'approved')); $this->set(compact('comments')); $this->viewPath = 'elements'.DS.'posts'; $this->render('comments'); } } } else { $this->Comment->recursive =-1; $comments = $this->Comment->findAll(array('Comment.foreign_id' => $this->data['Comment']['foreign_id'], 'Comment.belongs_to' => $this->data['Comment']['belongs_to'], 'Comment.status' =>'approved')); $this->set(compact('comments')); $this->viewPath = 'elements'.DS.'posts'; $this->render('spam'); } } else { $this->Session->setFlash(__('Invalid Action. Please view a post to add a comment.', true)); $this->redirect(array('controller' => 'pages', 'action'=>'display', 'home')); } } As you can see I've made sure that 'autoLayout' and 'autoRender' are set to false, but in Firebug I still get a 404 error stating /comments/add cannot be found on the production server. I should also point out that I'm using jquery, jquery.form and jquery.editable as well as a ajax helper created to be used with jquery. Any help or even suggestions about how to trouble shoot this is really appreciated. Cheers, Paul

  • Programming concepts taken from the arts and humanities

    - by Joey Adams
    After reading Paul Graham's essay Hackers and Painters and Joel Spolsky's Advice for Computer Science College Students, I think I've finally gotten it through my thick skull that I should not be loath to work hard in academic courses that aren't "programming" or "computer science" courses. To quote the former: I've found that the best sources of ideas are not the other fields that have the word "computer" in their names, but the other fields inhabited by makers. Painting has been a much richer source of ideas than the theory of computation. — Paul Graham, "Hackers and Painters" There are certainly other, much stronger reasons to work hard in the "boring" classes. However, it'd also be neat to know that these classes may someday inspire me in programming. My question is: what are some specific examples where ideas from literature, art, humanities, philosophy, and other fields made their way into programming? In particular, ideas that weren't obviously applied the way they were meant to (like most math and domain-specific knowledge), but instead gave utterance or inspiration to a program's design and choice of names. Good examples: The term endian comes from Gulliver's Travels by Tom Swift (see here), where it refers to the trivial matter of which side people crack open their eggs. The terms journal and transaction refer to nearly identical concepts in both filesystem design and double-entry bookkeeping (financial accounting). mkfs.ext2 even says: Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information: done Off-topic: Learning to write English well is important, as it enables a programmer to document and evangelize his/her software, as well as appear competent to other programmers online. Trigonometry is used in 2D and 3D games to implement rotation and direction aspects. Knowing finance will come in handy if you want to write an accounting package. Knowing XYZ will come in handy if you want to write an XYZ package. Arguably on-topic: The Monad class in Haskell is based on a concept by the same name from category theory. Actually, Monads in Haskell are monads in the category of Haskell types and functions. Whatever that means...

  • SharePoint 2010 BDC Model Deployment Issue: “The default web application could not be determined.”

    - by Jan Tielens
    Yesterday I tried to deploy a Business Data Connectivity Model project created in Visual Studio 2010 to my SharePoint 2010 test server (all RTM versions), but during the deployment of the solution, SharePoint threw my following error: Add Solution:  Adding solution 'BCSDemo2.wsp'...  Deploying solution 'BCSDemo2.wsp'...Error occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': The default web application could not be determined. Set the SiteUrl property in feature BCSDemo2_Feature1 to the URL of the desired site and retry activation.Parameter name: properties A little bit of searching on the internet taught me that I was not the only one having this issue, actually Paul Andrew describes how to solve it in this post. Although Paul describes what to do, his explanation is not, let’s say, very elaborate. :-) So let’s describe the steps a little bit more in detail: Create a new Business Data Connectivity Model project in Visual Studio 2010 and (optionally) implement all your code, change the model etc. When you try to deploy you get the error mentioned above. To fix it, in the Solution Explorer, navigate to and open the Feature1.Template.xml file (the name could be different if you decided to give your feature a different name of course). Add the following XML in the Feature element that’s already there (replace the Value with the URL of your site of course):  <Properties>    <Property Key='SiteUrl' Value='http://spf.u2ucourse.com'/>  </Properties>The resulting XML should look like:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?><Feature xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">  <Properties>    <Property Key='SiteUrl' Value='http://spf.u2ucourse.com'/>  </Properties></Feature> Deploy the solution, now without any issues. :-) What happens now, is that when Visual Studio creates the SharePoint Solution (the WSP file), it will use the Feature template XML to generate the Feature manifest, which will now include the missing property.

  • What's the syntax to add a calendar reminder from Google Command Line?

    - by Traveling Tech Guy
    I've been using googlecl successfully to add events to my calendar. Things like: google calendar add "call Paul tomorrow at 8:30am" work great, and add the appropriate event t the right time. But no reminder is added for the event. I tried: google calendar add "call Paul tomorrow at 8:30am reminder 10 minutes" and other combinations. It just ends up adding the "reminder" instruction to the event description. What's the syntax I should use to add a, let's say, 10 minutes pop-up reminder? Thanks

  • Create a color generator in matplotlib

    - by Brendan
    I have a series of lines that each need to be plotted with a separate colour. Each line is actually made up of several data sets (positive, negative regions etc.) and so I'd like to be able to create a generator that will feed one colour at a time across a spectrum, for example the gist_rainbow map shown here. I have found the following works but it seems very complicated and more importantly difficult to remember, from pylab import * NUM_COLORS = 22 mp = cm.datad['gist_rainbow'] get_color = matplotlib.colors.LinearSegmentedColormap.from_list(mp, colors=['r', 'b'], N=NUM_COLORS) ... # Then in a for loop this_color = get_color(float(i)/NUM_COLORS) Moreover, it does not cover the range of colours in the gist_rainbow map, I have to redefine a map. Maybe a generator is not the best way to do this, if so what is the accepted way?

  • what's the UNC path for local computer from a remote machine ?

    - by KaluSingh Gabbar
    I am writing a small utility program in IronPython to install applications on remote machine using managementclass which uses WMI. Now, the script would install an application on Machine_B from Machine_A, it works fine as long as you have the msi file on the local drive of the Target machine (Machine_B, in this case). I want to be able to do same thing with .msi file being on the Host (Machine_A) machine. network_scope = r"\\%Machine_B\root\cimv2" scope = ManagementScope(network_scope, options) scope.Connect() mp = ManagementPath("Win32_Product") ogo = ObjectGetOptions() mc = ManagementClass(scope, mp, ogo) inParams = mc.GetMethodParameters ("Install") inParams["PackageLocation"] = r"C:\installs\python-3.1.1.msi" inParams["AllUsers"] = True retVal = mc.InvokeMethod ("Install", inParams, None) print retVal ["ReturnValue"].ToString() PROBLEM : [Machine A] --- Where I am running the script, and want to host the .msi file [Machine B] --- where I want to install the application So, How can I define the UNC path for local machine ? what will be inParams["PackageLocation"] = ??

  • Multi-process builds in Visual Studio 2010: Worth it?

    - by coryr
    I've started testing our C++ software with VS2010 and the build times are really bad (30-45 minutes, about double the VS2005 times). I've been reading about the /MP switch for multi-process compilation. Unfortunately, it is incompatible with some features that we use quite a bit like #import, incremental compilation, and precompiled headers. Have you had a similar project where you tried the /MP switch after turning off things like precompiled headers? Did you get faster builds? My machine is running 64-bit Windows 7 on a 4 core machine with 4 GB of RAM and a fast SSD storage. Virus scanner disabled and a pretty minimal software environment.
