Is it safe to "CGImageRelease" imref? Has sub "CGImageRetained" imref? Should I release subIm (I get an error if I do)? Is subIm contained in the autorelease-pool, and , if so, how do I know this? In general, can one check if an object is contained in the autorelease pool (for debugging purpose)?

    Hi, I have just finished converted a vb.net app to c# and one of the lines is to get @ReturnValue from the parameter. I ended up having to CAST a lot of things.. Is there not a easier way here is what i have int rc = ((System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlInt32)(((System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter)(cmd.Parameters["@ReturnValue"])).SqlValue)).Value; In vb.net it was as simple as doing this Dim rc As Integer = Convert.ToInt32(cmd.Parameters("@ReturnValue").Value) Alot easier :-) But the problem with C# is the property Value isn't available unless I Cast to SqlParameter and i also need to cast to Sqltypes.SqlInt32 - i can't just do a standard Convert.ToInt32

  • Version resource in DLL not visible with right-click

    I'm trying to do something which is very easy to do in the regular MSVC, but not supported easily in VC++ Express. There is no resource editor in VC++ Express. So I added a file named version.rc into my DLL project. The file has the below content, which is compiled by the resource compiler and added to the final DLL. This resource is viewable in the DLL using reshacker, though not when right-clicking the DLL in Windows Explorer. What is missing from my RC file to make it appear when right-clicking?     I am calling another shell script testarg.sh within my main script. the logfiles of testarg.sh are stored in $CUSTLOGS in the below format testarg.DDMONYY.PID.log example: testarg.09Jun10.21165.log In the main script after the testarg process gets completed i need to grep the log file for the text "ERROR" and "COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY". How do i get the PID of the process and combine with DDMONYY for grepping.   • Dell XPS + Apple Mini-Display Adaptor + Projector = KABOOM

    Remember how I blogged about rolling with the punches? So today my buddy and Prairie Dev Con speaker James Chambers went to present on Microsoft MVC. He brought his fancy new Dell XPS laptop, which he had used to do presentations and stream internet video to a projector before. But today, the technology gods were not smiling… James tries to connect his laptop to the projector. Nothing. The projector just can’t recognize the connection. Realize that we’ve already had two sessions in that room already, so everything *should* work. The Dell XPS laptop James has doesn’t have a VGA port. Instead, it has HDMI and Mini-Display ports. James had one of the Apple mini-display to VGA adapters. If I connected my Mac Book Pro, I could connect no problem, so it wasn’t the adapter. He could connect his laptop to projectors before, so it wasn’t the laptop. And we’d already had sessions, so it wasn’t the projector. So what was it? Well, all three it turns out. Thanks to this post over at Irongeek.com we discovered that using Windows 7 on a Dell XPS with the Apple connector and a non-plug-in-play projector won’t work. So the fix was ditch the Apple connector, use the Star Tech model instead (listed in the Irongeek article). So James is good to go, he’s going to talk at the last session and we’ve moved the Windows 8 talk Jim Russell and I were going to do until tomorrow. Roll with the punches…

    Recently we attended the Retail Week Conference at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel in London. The conference proves to be an inspirational meeting of retail minds and the insight gained from both the speakers and the other delegates is invaluable. In particular we enjoyed hearing from Charlie Mayfield, Chairman at John Lewis Partnership, about understanding how the consumer is viewing the ever changing world of retail; a session on how to encourage brand-loyal multichannel activities from Robin Terrell of House of Fraser with Alan White of the N Brown Group, Vince Russell from The Cloud and Lucy Neville-Rolfe from Tesco; and a fascinating session from Tim Steiner, Chief Executive of Ocado, about how the business makes it as easy as possible for consumers to shop on their various platforms, which included some surprising usage statistics. Oracle's own Vice President of Retail, Paul Dickson, also held a session with Richard Pennycook, Group Finance Director at Morrisons, about the role of technology in accelerating and supporting the business strategy. Morrisons' 'Evolve' programme takes a litte-and-often approach to updating its technology infrastructure to spread cost and keep the adoption process gentle for staff, and the session explored how the process works and how Oracle's technology underpins the programme to optimise their operations using actionable insight. We had a quick chat with Paul Dickson at the session to get his thoughts on the programme - the video is below.     I have just migrated my EFMVC app from .NET 4.0 and ASP.NET MVC 4 RC to .NET 4.5, ASP.NET MVC 4 RTM and Entity Framework 5 Code First. In this release, the EFMVC solution is built with Visual Studio 2012 RTM. The migration process was very smooth and did not made any major changes other than adding simple unit tests with NUnit and Moq.     I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 Natty and when I installed it I had a problem with blank screen on startup and found a solution but I have the same problem when it is inactive and goes blank screen, it won't come back, so I have to restart. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help. This is what solved my first problem: When you start editing the /etc/rc.local and add before exit 0: setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00 Edit /etc/default/grub, edit the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT = "quiet splash acpi_osi = Linux" Update grub with: sudo update-grub2

    these steps were send by my iSP admin for ver10.10 and i'm using 11.10... step 1 sucessfully implemented till point 7 after that the problems are marked after '//' Step 2 i cannot completely do the step 2 How to make Connect Communications VPN connection in Ubuntu 10.10. 1st Step:- 1- Go to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manage 2- Search for “PPTP”, check “network-manager-PPTP” and click “Apply” 3- Click on the Network Manager tray icon with your right mouse button and choose “Edit Connections…”. 4- Go to the “VPN” tab and click “Add”. 5- Choose “Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)” as the VPN Connection Type 6- Check the VPN Connection Type and click “Create”. 7- Give your VPN connection a name and assign all the necessary information • Gateway = blue.connect.net.pk if you got Blue Package or • Gateway = green.connect.net.pk if you got Green Package or • Gateway = blueplus.connect.net.pk if you got BluePlus Package or • Gateway = red.connect.net.pk if you got Red Package • User name = Connect Communications Userid • Password = Connect Communications Password 8- Now Click on “Advanced” Authentication • Unchecked “PAP" // cannot uncheck • Unchecked “MSCHAP" // cannot uncheck • Unchecked “CHAP" • Checked only “MSCHAPv2" EAP shown in ver11.10 and cannot be unchecked Security And Compression. • Unchecked “Use Point-to-Point encryption (MPPE)”. • Unchecked “Allow statefull encryption”. • Unchecked “Allow BSD data Compression”. • Unchecked “Allow Deflate data Compression”. • Unchecked “Use TCP Header Compression”. • Unchecked “Send PPP echo Packets” Then Press “OK” then “Apply”. 9-Now you are able to connect to the specified VPN connection via the Networking Manager Then you can connect to VPN in the menu bar and your Internet icon will have a lock when the connection is successful. 2nd Step:- Open Terminal window.     i need to execute the following commands AFTER login. sudo hdparm -y /dev/disk/by-uuid/443AFBAD7FE50945 sudo hdparm -y /dev/disk/by-uuid/7ABB49654B799D40 (trying to edit rc.local does not work nor does using hdparm.conf because as soon as I log in the disks start up again). I have tried numerous things like bash files and autossh entries in the startup applications with no luck because sudo is involved.

    I have system which is equipped with Intel Celeron processor 1.1 GHz s370 with 384 Mb of RAM on Intel d815egew motherboard which supports wake-on-lan function. I want to use such a PC for Internet sharing to the local network. Also this PC is a DHCP+DNS server as well as router/gateway. Based on above I decided to install Lubuntu as it is lightweight system. I installed Lubuntu 10.04.4 LTS from alternate ISO. System has no auto login. System boots and has acceptable performance. Host PC has onboard 4 network adapters: eth0 – ethernet controller which is used for Local Network connections. Has static address 10.0.0.1 eth1 – ethernet controller which is not used and not configured so far, I plan to connect printer here later on. eth2 - ethernet controller which is used to connect to Internet, which we plan to share for the local network wlan0 – wireless controller, it is used in role of access poit for local Network and has address 10.0.0.2 We want to control our gateway remotely. So, we need to be able to power it on remotely. To allow this I’ve done the following things: $ cd /etc/init.d/ made a new file with command $ sudo vim wakeonlanconfig Wrote the following lines to the newly created file, saved and closed it #!/bin/bash ethtool -s eth0 wol g ethtool -s eth2 wol g exit Made the abovementioned file executable $ sudo chmod a+x wakeonlanconfig Then included it into autostart sequence during boot. $ sudo update-rc.d -f wakeonlanconfig defaults after system reboot we will be able to poweron system remotely. Than we need to have a possibility to connect remotely to the host via SSH and VNC. So, I installed following packets with the following commands: $ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install openssh-server tightvncserver Add ssh daemon into autostart sequence during boot. $ sudo update-rc.d -f ssh defaults Power off the host PC $ sudo halt Then I went to remote place, send magic paket and powered the Host up. System started... And I connected to the host via Putty from remote system under Windows. Than logged in and run the command to start vnc server. $ tightvncserver -geometry 800x600 -depth 16 :2 VNC server successfully started and I got message like follows. New 'X' desktop is gateway:2 Starting applications specified in /home/dolv/.vnc/xstartup Log file is /home/dolv/.vnc/gateway:2.log Using UltraVNC Viewer programm under windows I connected to the host's vnc server, enterd the password and.... sow only mouse cursor in form of cross on a grey background of 800x600 dots, no desktop. Here is my .vnc/xstartup file #!/bin/sh xrdb $HOME/.Xresources xsetroot -solid grey #x-terminal-emulator -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" & #x-window-manager & # Fix to make GNOME work export XKL_XMODMAP_DISABLE=1 /etc/X11/Xsession The Question: What I have to change and where to make LXDE session start automatically after tightvncserver starts?
