  • Internal Linux machine with Apache that I can access by IP address but not computer name

    I have an Ubuntu machine running LAMP. While on the machine I can type localhost or the computers name to access htdocs. From another machine I can only access the machine via its IP Address. This just started happening recently when someone rearranged the network cables and removed a hub sitting between the machine and the network, which makes me think it wasn't all the stable to begin with anyways. Any suggestions on where I should start looking?

  • I can't connect to mysql on a remote server

    I'm trying to connect from an Ubuntu server to a RHEL6 server using mysql. I've tried telneting into the server as well as trying to connect with mysql. I've tried commenting out the bind-address but didn't have any success with that either. I don't get an error code or anything with telnet. It just fails after a minute or so. With mysql, I get this error code ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'SERVER_IP' (111). "SERVER_IP" is of course a placeholder where actual error gives that actual IP. I've included my my.cnf as well as well as my iptables from the destination server.     We have a requirement from management to give limited access of our Application to Distributors \ Dealers to look at their account statements in our books of account, enter their purchase requirements (sales order for us). We have given a few of them the RDC who connect to our terminal server and access the reports. This involves licensing of TS Client per each distributor. Is it more better, secure and less costly if a web based application is made to only enter the orders and retrive reports like pending orders, ledgers, receivables etc. Also which is more secure as far as database access is concerened...browser based access or RDC access. Please answer.

  • Can't Remote into Windows Server

    Hello, I have a Dell server wired into the router. I was able to connect to it with my laptop (laptop is wireless) before my router died. My verizon router went kaput, and I got everything else back up and running on the wireless network other than the remoting in feature, even though I can access the server through windows explorer just fine. Any ideas why? What do I need to check? UPDATE: Interesting scenario, Network Discovery is off; I turn it on and save, but for some reason, even after that, network discovery is turning itself off... no idea why that is happening? Thanks.

The Audit will need to discover Hardware and software details of all machines attached to the network (including Printers) I do not want to have to install this application on each workstation. The audit app. needs to discover all the ip addresses of all the networked workstations. I have been prototyping this app for the last couple of months and have decided to try a new tack Is this possible? a). You have a windows network, min Windows XP sp3 and upwards b). Maximum of 100 Networked machines (if that matters) c). I need to remotely reboot each WINDOWS machine in turn on the entire network and get it to startup using UNIX, say knoppix for example! d). however the knoppix live cd is only available from one of the networked machines Questions...   • APC UPS-5000 Power off remote servers

    Hi there, I have a UPS connected via the serial port to a server using PowerChute Business Edition. If a power outage occurs I would like this server to start shutting down all other servers within the network. Is there dedicated software to do this? I was thinking of creating a command file which runs a .bat file to run shut down commands to each server (using PSExec). I can set PowerChute to run this command file when a power failure occurs. Is there not anything APC provide which has this functionality and is more efficient than writing a .bat file to do this? Thanks,

    I'm trying to establish a connection between this app and my Win 8.1 Pro PC, but every guide I've found so far skip steps such as what to put under PC name or under Gateway. Also, should the User name be my email or something else? I've also no idea how to find or add a user in the step 6 of this guide because the only location listed is my PC and I don't even know what am I supposed to search for. I'm not even sure whether I have to add a user or this is an step I can skip. A comprehensive guide for people without experience in networking would be highly appreciated. Both my android tablet and PC are connected to the internet through a home router, in case this matters.

  • Remote Desktop svchost (networkservice) & lsa.exe high cpu usage, hangs on welcome screen

    We have deployed an RDS Farm with 12 virtual RDS servers using Hyper V. Currently some users are not able to log on. After passing credentials to the connection broker, the session hangs on the "Welcome" screen. Using resource monitor we've seen that svchost (with the "networkservice" service) has a CPU usage of 50%, when viewing the wait chain on the process it displays that it's waiting for a lsa.exe to finish. We can't kill any of the users processes, even when trying with taskkill /f. Suspending lsa.exe did work but didn't have any effect. The networkservice also couldn't be restarted. Also, if this happens, the current users logged on to the RDS server can't be displayed. Task manager crashes when viewing the users, RDS service manager crashes when viewing the users (even remotely) and the cmd command "query session" doesn't work. No antivirus is installed on the RDS server. The only thing we can do is rebooting the server, which is not an option because of the fact that other users are in active sessions. Does anyone have ANY idea what's going on? We didn't encounter this in our pre-production setup.

MySQL server not running with skip-networking or bind-address username has host as '%' and I can connect locally so the password is correct. (Also accounting for four years from now when I do graduate) P.S. I'm going to UC Irvine; would the school itself matter in the significance of the degree?

  • C++ vs Matlab vs Python as a main language for Computer Vision Research

    Hi all, Firstly, sorry for a somewhat long question but I think that many people are in the same situation as me and hopefully they can also gain some benefit from this. I'll be starting my PhD very soon which involves the fields of computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning. Currently, I'm using opencv (2.1) C++ interface and I especially like its powerful Mat class and the overloaded operations available for matrix and image operations and seamless transformations. I've also tried (and implemented many small vision projects) using opencv python interface (new bindings; opencv 2.1) and I really enjoy python's ability to integrate opencv, numpy, scipy and matplotlib. But recently, I went back to opencv C++ interface because I felt that the official python new bindings were not stable enough and no overloaded operations are available for matrices and images, not to mention the lack of machine learning modules and slow speeds in certain operations. I've also used Matlab extensively in the past and although I've used mex files and other means to speed up the program, I just felt that Matlab's performance was inadequate for real-time vision tasks, be it for fast prototyping or not. When the project becomes larger and larger, many tasks have to be re-written in C and compiled into Mex files increasingly and Matlab becomes nothing more than a glue language. Here comes the sub-questions: For carrying out research in these fields (machine learning, vision, pattern recognition), what is your main or ideal programming language for rapid prototyping of ideas and testing algorithms contained in papers? For computer vision research work, can you list down the pros and cons of using the following languages? C++ (with opencv + gsl + svmlib + other libraries) vs Matlab (with all its toolboxes) vs python (with the imcomplete opencv bindings + numpy + scipy + matplotlib). Are there computer vision PhD/postgrad students here who are using only C++ (with all its availabe libraries including opencv) without even needing to resort to Matlab or python? In other words, given the current existing computer vision or machine learning libraries, is C++ alone sufficient for fast prototyping of ideas? If you're currently using Java or C# for your research, can you list down the reasons why they should be used and how they compare to other languages in terms of available libraries? What is the de facto vision/machine learning programming language and its associated libraries used in your research group? Thanks in advance.     We're using the Eclipse CDT 5 C++ IDE on Windows to develop a C++ application on a remote AIX host. Eclipse CDT has the ability to perform remote debugging using gdbserver. Unfortunately, gdbserver is not supported on AIX. Is anyone familiar with a way to debug remotely using Eclipse CDT without gdbserver? Perhaps using an SSH shell connection to gdb?

I greatly miss having my familiar tomes to refer to when topics and problems come up, so I am looking to rebuild my library.<endsadstory> What are your recommendations for the best examples of academic caliber books for the field of computer science and its associated mathematics? I am looking for books on subjects like computational theory, programming languages, compilers, operating systems, algorithms and so on. Don't limit your suggestions to your textbooks only. If there is a book you have read that covers computer science or a related math in a formal way, but is not strictly a textbook, I would be love to hear about them as well. Finally, for the sake of creating a good reference for all of us, may I suggest posting one book per answer so they can be rated individually.

  • Remote MySQL connection fails (10060)

    When I am trying to connect to a MySQL database from a remote computer I get a prompt saying: Connection Failed: [HY000] [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver]Can't Connect to MySQL server on 'XXX.XXX.XX.XX' (10060) I have created a user account in the MySQL Administrator and added a host to enable remote access, I have also made an exception for my Windows Firewall on port 3306 but the connection still fails. What is the problem? Thanks!
