  • Can't connect to STunnel when it's running as a service

    I've got STunnel configured to proxy non SSL POP3 requests to GMail on port 111. This is working fine when STunnel is running as a desktop app, but when I run the STunnel service, I can't connect to port 111 on the machine (using Outlook Express for example). The Stunnel log file shows the port binding is succeeding, but it never sees a connection. There's something preventing the connection to that port when STunnel is running as a service?   • Best Way to Archive Digital Photos and Avoid Duplicate File Names

    This problem pertains to archiving of digital pictures taken from multiple cameras. Answers here covered the general topic of the-mechanics-of-backups: How do you archive digital photos and videos ? I however face another problem. Having multiple cameras (canon) and multiple SD cards (mixed and matched at random), I have found that different SD cards have different photos with the same file name, i.e. two different photos each name IMG_3141.JPG. Additionally, for better or worse, I've backed up the files to multiple places and need to consolidate my backups. I want to eliminate duplicates, but not clobber files. The only way I can think of is to append the code (md5 or sha1) to the file name, i.e. IMG_3141.JPG becomes IMG_3141_KT229QZ31415926ASDF.JPG, then sorting them out Any better ways?   • Host your own private git repository via SSH

    If you are like me you have tons of projects you would like to keep private but track with git, but do not want to pay a git host for a private plan. One of the problems is that most hosts scale their plans by project instead of users. Luckily, it is easy to host your own git repositories on any el cheapo host that provides ssh access. In the interest of full disclosure, I learned this trick from this blog post. I decided to recreate it in case the source material vanishes for some reason. To setup your host, login via ssh and run the following commands: mkdir ~/git/yourprojectname.git cd ~/git/yourprojectname.git git --bare init Then in your project directory (on your local machine): # setup your user info git config --global user.name "Firstname Lastname" git config --global user.email "[email protected]" # initialize the workspace git init git add . git commit -m "initial commit" git add remote origin ssh://[email protected]/~/git/yourprojectname.git git push origin master It’s that easy! To keep from entering your password every time add your public key to the server: Generate your key with ‘ssh-keygen -t rsa‘ on your local machine.  Then add the contents of the generated file to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on your server.

    The program evince complains that it can't find libfreetype.so.6; however I clearly have the file and its included in my LD_LIBRARY_PATH; furthermore I have another program which uses libfreetype6 and is able to run just fine.   • Connect iPad to windows 7 VPN

    My iPad keeps spitting out the error: "A connection could not be established to the PPP server." I am trying to connect it to a VPN I set up with Windows 7 as an incoming connection. On the iPad, I went into the VPN settings, added a new PPTP VPN with the following information Server: Windows 7 Computer's IP RSA SecurID: OFF Account: Account Username Password: Account Password Encryption Level: Auto Send All Traffic: ON Proxy: Off Now I know that it is making some connection to the Windows 7 Computer because whenever I intentionally put in the wrong VPN password on the iPad, it makes me put in the correct one before trying to connect again. All the ports are forwarded on my router for PPTP, and my Windows 7 Firewall is even off to try to get this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    I have a bash script on a Ubuntu box which searches for the fastest openvpn server, connects, and binds one program to the tun0 interface. Unfortunately, all traffic is being passed through the VPN. Does anybody know what's going on? The relevant line follows: openvpn --daemon --config $cfile --auth-user-pass ipvanish.pass --status openvpn-status.log There don't seem to be any entries in iptables when I enter sudo iptables --list.   • SSH keys fail for one user

    I just set up a new Debian server. I disabled root SSH and password auth, so you've gotta use a key file. For my primary user, everything works exactly as expected. I used ssh-keygen -t dsa and got myself a public and private key. Put one in authorized keys, put the other in a pem file locally. I wanted to create a user that I can deploy things with, so I did basically the same process. I addusered it, made a .ssh folder, ran ssh-keygen -t dsa (I also tried RSA), put the keys in their appropriate locations. No luck. I'm getting a Permission denied (publickey) error. When I use the exact same keys as the account that works, same error. When I enable password authentication, I can log in via SSH with the password. How do I debug this?

    Recently Gmail has started marking emails sent directly from my server (using php mail()) as spam and I'm having problems trying to find the issue. If I send an exact copy of the same email from my email client it goes to the Gmail inbox. The emails are plain text, around 7 lines long and contain a URL link in plain text. As the emails sent from my client are getting through fine I'm thinking that the content isn't the issue. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could take a look at the the following headers and give me some advice why the email from the server is being marked as spam.   • Can't connect to STunnel when it's running as a service

    I've got STunnel configured to proxy non SSL POP3 requests to GMail on port 111. This is working fine when STunnel is running as a desktop app, but when I run the STunnel service, I can't connect to port 111 on the machine (using Outlook Express for example). The Stunnel log file shows the port binding is succeeding, but it never sees a connection. There's something preventing the connection to that port when STunnel is running as a service?     I have configured my Fortigate with a new VPN IPSec tunnel to allow the iOS Cisco client to connect. That works fine. I can RDP to my servers, browse to my servers via IP address, etc. But, the iPhone does not resolve my internal IP addresses.     Our mail server was originally setup using self-created certificates, however when those expired and I tried to recreate them, the whole thing just blew up. Since I know it will be important, we are running a Debian server and Postfix.     I am trying to learn this instead of just following guides so I can recommend proper actions when people do ask (and they do). Here is what I got down. First, generate both key with command such as this: ssh-keygen -b 2048 -t rsa -C comment -f ~/.ssh/id_rsa Then you push the public part of the key into authorized_keys2 file cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys2 (and then chmod it to 600 or similar) And you download the private key to your computer (id_rsa) and feed that in to Putty to be read and authenticate. Are these the correct steps to setting this public/private key authentication for passwordless login to SSH?

    Hi, When you download files from Google Code now (example), in addition to the text version of the SHA1 hash, it includes a QR code of it. The device that the file was downloaded to is the one that has to hash the file. But, if it can download the file (ie, has access to the webpage), it also has access to the text version of the hash, so the QR code seems completely useless—and more work to decode when the raw text is available. How would reading the hash into a mobile phone allow you to verify the file you download to the computer? Or if you download the file to the phone, how would you use the phone to take a picture of the QR code displayed on the webpage on its own screen? Does anyone know what the point to the QR code is or how you would use it to verify the downloaded file (I don’t mean QR codes in general, but specifically in this context).

    Hello. I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed with sshd and i can successfully connect to it using login and password. I have configured an RSA key login and now have "Server refused our key" as expected. Ok, now i want to check sshd log in order to fingure out a problem. I have examined /etc/ssh/sshd_config and it have SyslogFacility AUTH LogLevel INFO Ok. I'm looking at /var/log/auth.log and... it's empty O_O. Changing Loglevel to VERBOSE helps nothing - auth.log is still empty. Any hints how i can check sshd log?

    If you are having troubles (shown below) when you publish your access database to https SharePoint2010 site with self-signed certificate. Problem: First you are getting a warning see the screenshot below: And then getting the error message: Solution: The error “The name of the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site” comes when the ‘common name’ in the certificate doesn’t match the address you provided in browser to access the site. To fix the problem , you need to use script to generate the certificate rather than using the IIS UI, this is because it will default the common name to the server name and you will have the above problem when using that certificate to a different host-name web application.     I'd like to enable the use of the AES 256 GCM encryption instead of the AES 256 CBC. We already have ECC certificates based on ECDSA so that pre-requisite has been fullfilled. The certificate has a SHA-256 signature and uses a 256-bit ECC keyset. The ciphersuite I'd like to use: TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384_P384 This is our ciphersuite order: TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384_P384, TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384_P521, TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA384_P384, TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA384_P521, TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA_P256, TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA_P256, TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA384_P256 Still when I check the website it says we use TLS 1.2 and ECDHE_ECDSA for key exchange AES_256_CBC encryption and SHA1 for message digest. I suspect it uses this suite for some reason: TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA_P256 When I remove that ciphersuite the site has a protocol mismatch and won't load the https anymore. Does anyone know how to enable the ciphersuite? Did I forget to set something in the registry or do I need to do something else to enable that specific suite. Thanks in advance!

Is there a similar way to tell git which private key file to use when on a system with multiple private keys in the .ssh directory?

    Hi, I have sendmail MTA and i use pear:Mail class to send mails through remote sendmail server. Everything was fine till yesterday. Probably nothing changes was made in configs. Packets are deliverd to sendmail server i can see it in tcpdump, but there is smaller packets than on other server which sends emails. Could you tell me how can i check what is wrong with that? D.S.
