  • Java simple encryption

    Hello, I would like to encrypt a textual (configuration) file stored on disk. Trying to use DES encryption I've had fatal error on client machines, I later found out caused because the algorithm could not handle accented characters (!) I suspect that was because I was using old packages (sun.misc.BASE64Decoder) - but I'm not sure that is the reason. However, I'm looking for a simpler solution - I need a really simple encryption (I know some people would not agree on that) - not RSA of 128 bit keys or so, just obscuring the text from curious eyes. It is really weird that I could not find on the web a simple trivial solution. Any idea, anyone ? Thanks, Ran

    Hi, I am creating a very simple forum as my first MVC project. My database layout is rather simple: [ForumThread] Id Title [ForumPost] Id ThreadId Message ParentId // To tell which post this post should hang on to Created CreatedBy Updated UpdatedBy I am creating a view for the ForumThread for displaying the list of threads and to be able to create a new thread. There is a details view of the ForumThread which shows the thread with the underlying posts. My question is how I the easiest way in the ForumThread details view, can display a view to create a ForumPost, without having to navigate to another page first?

  • convert.php does not run in a screen session

    I am trying to convert a big forum. At the moment I have to do this via ssh and start convert.php with "php5 -f convert.php -- $OPTIONS". But my internet connection is a bit buggy and so it is often killed. If i start the above working command in a screen session it does not work. Instead php gives me the HTML code of the "convert.php" back. head of the page: X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.12 Set-Cookie: PHPSESSID=6bc4370b2d8d40ff8c3ab23672ff4135; path=/ Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0 Pragma: no-cache Content-type: text/html Does it has something to do with the Sessions? But why does it work on the same ssh-connection without screen?

  • Getting Unexpected '<' in simple less than greater than comparison

    I feel very very very silly posting this, but I can't find the answer. I've searched google and here. // originally values in a multi dimensional array, but used simple values // to rule out errors. $somenumber = 1; $anotherone=5; if ($somenumber < $res->shares < $anotherone ) { blah } Get the error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' Seems pretty simple and straight forward. Is there some weird thing that you can't compare multiple values? Do I have to explicitly type? It works in Perl. Which of course means that it has to work like this in everything else. ;)

    I'm looking for a way to generate pdf files from html In order to make simple tabular reports I would need the following features table rendering variable page size repeating headers / footers on every page calculated page number / total page css support would be nice I know there have been many similar questions in stackoverflow, but I don't know if there's a product that supports the aforementioned features... Ideally, the source would be a plain and simple well built html with css, (I'm building the html files, so I can adapt to the products needs, that is, it won't have to render every piece of html crap you can throw at a browser) and with some custom tags to configure headings, footer, page size, etc... then I would run a command line to convert it from html to pdf. I think http://www.allcolor.org/YaHPConverter/ does something like that

    I made a tongue-in-cheek comment to this question about making a hardware RNG. Does anyone know of any simple plans or can anyone descibe a simple hardware based RNG and the software to drive it? Go to Radio Shack. Buy a diode, an NTR resistor, a capacitor and serial cable. Cut off the end of the serial cable that does not fit on your computer. Solder the diode and resistor in series between pins DTR and DSR of the cable. Solder the capacitor between DSR and TXD pins. Write a small C program to do the following: Set DTR to 1. Start Timer. Monitor DSR until it goes to 1. Stop Timer. Calculate resistance from elapsed time. Retreive serveral bits from that value to use as part of random number. Repeat until enough bits have accumulated.

  • Simple image server

    I have a bunch of images that I need others to browse via a web browser in pretty much the same way as Apache-Gallery. I'd be able to dump all my images in a directory so that users hitting: http://server:port/directory would see small thumbnails and selecting an image would load it full size on a page with options to browse the previous or next image. I'm looking for a non Apache solution, much like the wonderfull Python simple http server, that can be launched anywhere with minimal configuration & fuss e.g. python -m SimpleHTTPServer 8000 In fact, the python solution above is pretty much want I want except it doesn't thumbnail the images but just a simple directory listing. Happy to use an app written in any common language so long as it is self contained and can run on linux on a custom port (and to re-iterate, not an Apache module).

    memberA is defined in the header of ClassA. memberB is defined in the header of ClassB. ClassB is a subclass of ClassA Inside an instance of ClassB, setting memberA via simple assignment: memberA = 0.05 ...also changes memberB, but to a crazy number -- 1028443341. Additionally, assigning 0.05 to memberA results in memberA showing up in the debugger as 5.33083531e-38. Both variables are floats, neither is a pointer. I'm almost certianly making some noob mistake, but I don't have any clue what it might be. What sort of screw-up might make it so assigning a value to one variable results in crazy values appearing in two variables? I can give more details or real code, but figured I'd keep it simple to start with in case it's an obvious problem/solution.

    I use an API that expects a SQL string. I take a user input, escape it and pass it along to the API. The user input is quiet simple. It asks for column values. Like so: string name = userInput.Value; Then I construct a SQL query: string sql = string.Format("SELECT * FROM SOME_TABLE WHERE Name = '{0}'", name.replace("'", "''")); Is this safe enough? If it isn't, is there a simple library function that make column values safe: string sql = string.Format("SELECT * FROM SOME_TABLE WHERE Name = '{0}'", SqlSafeColumnValue(name)); The API uses SQLServer as the database.     Hello all, I'm relatively novice when it comes to C++ as I was weened on Java for much of my undergraduate curriculum (tis a shame). Memory management has been a hassle, but I've purchased a number books on ansi C and C++. I've poked around the related questions, but couldn't find one that matched this particular criteria. Maybe it's so obvious nobody mentions it? This question has been bugging me, but I feel as if there's a conceptual point i'm not utilizing. Suppose: char original[56]; cstr[0] = 'a'; cstr[1] = 'b'; cstr[2] = 'c'; cstr[3] = 'd'; cstr[4] = 'e'; cstr[5] = '\0'; char *shaved = shavecstr(cstr); delete[] cstrn; where char* shavecstr(char* cstr) { size_t len = strlen(cstr); char* ncstr = new char[len]; strcpy(ncstr,cstr); return ncstr; } In that the whole point is to have 'original' be a buffer that fills with characters and routinely has its copy shaved and used elsewhere. To prevent leaks, I want to free up the memory held by 'shaved' to be used again after it passes through some arguments. There is probably a good reason for why this is restricted, but there should be some way to free the memory as by this configuration, there is no way to access the original owner (pointer) of the data.

  • PHP Simple_html_dom issue

    The snippet below loops through some web pages, grabs the html and then looks for table.results and gets the plaintext out of the tags contained in each . $results is ok. Now I'm trying to get the href value of an tag that is found in the second of each . I'd like to include this in the $results array, but I'm not sure how to do this. The third foreach statement gets them but then I need to merge $links with $results. Ideally I'd also get the links in the second foreach statement.     Hi, It seems that there is a really annoying issue in Class Diagram designer in VS (my version is 2010 Ultimate, but the issue is also observed in VS 2008). When I'm trying to create a class diagram for particular simple class from DLL I'm getting the following error: "Some of the selected type(s) cannot be added to the class diagram. Check the code for errors and ensure that all required assemblies ... blah-blah-blah" My code doesn't contain any error. I have multiple class and interface definitions in one separate .cs file, but these classes are really simple - even no calls to unmanaged/interop. Any solution for this?

  • Using string.Format for simple things?

    In my early .Net programming days, I used string.Format() only for complex string concatenations, for example to compile strings as Problem with customer order 234 of date 2/2/2002 and payment id 55543. But now I use string.Format for almost every string concatenation I have to do, also simple ones such as prefixing a string with something. Console.WriteLine(string.Format("\t\t{0}", myString)); Is there any possible overhead on this? Maybe I should use the regular + operator to do these simple operations? What's your opinion on this?

    I'm trying to be diligent about checking my rake tasks with RSpec tests, but in the process of feeling my way around I seem to have hit a wall. If I put the @rake.load_rakefile method in, I want that Rakefile to load. But instead it just bombs out. If I comment it out, however, the test fails because the "specs" task is (understandably) not defined. Where am I going wrong?

  • simple div containing span won't size correctly

    I thought I was pretty knowledgeable about CSS but this simple problem baffles me. <div><span>sample text</span></div> results in the div's height being smaller than the height of the span if the span has padding. I realize that there are ways to use "float" to make the div size correctly, but floats always seem to introduce undesired side effects. Isn't there a clean simple way to tell the div to size to fit its contents? Seems pretty basic to me. Maybe I'm missing something.

    I'm trying to use SimpleXML to parse an XML document (an ItemLookupResponse for a book from the Amazon Product Advertising API) which contains the following element: <ItemAttributes> <Author>Shane Conder</Author> <Author>Lauren Darcey</Author> <Manufacturer>Pearson Educacion</Manufacturer> <ProductGroup>Book</ProductGroup> <Title>Android Wireless Application Development: Barnes & Noble Special Edition</Title> </ItemAttributes> My problem is that I don't know how to deal with the multiple possible Author elements. Here's what I have right now for the corresponding POJO (Plain Old Java Object), keeping in mind that it's not handling the case of multiple Authors: @Element public class ItemAttributes { @Element public String Author; @Element public String Manufacturer; @Element public String Title; } (I don't care about the ProductGroup, so it's not in the class -- I'm just setting SimpleXML's strict mode to off to allow for that.) I couldn't find an example in the documentation that corresponded with such a case. Using an ElementList with (inline=true) seemed along the right lines, but I didn't see how to do it for String (as opposed to a separate Author class, which I have no need for and don't see how it would even work). Here's a similar question and answer, but for PHP: php - simpleXML how to access a specific element with the same name as others? I don't know what the Java equivalent would be to the accepted answer. Thanks in advance.
