• How to enable a Web portal-based enterprise platform on different domains and hosts without customization

  I work at Coscend, a cloud and communications software product company. We have built a Web portal-based collaboration platform that we would like to host on five different Windows- and Linux-based servers in different hosting environments that run Web servers. Each of these Windows and Linux servers have a different host name and domain name (and IP address). Out team would appreciate your guidance on: (1) Is there a way to implement this Web portal-based platform on these Linux servers without customizing the host name, domain name and IP address for each individual instance? (2) Is there a way to create some variables using JavaScript for host name and domain name and call them from the different implementations? (3) Can these JavaScript modules be made portable and re-usable object modules for different environments and instances? The portal is written in JavaScript that is embedded in HTML5 and padded with CSS3. Other technologies include Flash, Flex. Databases used are PostgreSQL and MySQL.

  Hi, I have an InnoDB table for visitors' counting, which has perfectly worked for several years, but it failed twice yesterday, may be cause of the increase of visitors Without apparent reason, this table locked, with hundreds of DELETE an REPLACE INTO queries (+500) with "updating" or "cleaning up" status. (I've no more the copy of the processlist...) This table contains few entries, between 500 and 1500, so the updating queries are usualy very fast and don't lock. I don't know where I must search to find the cause of this problem and resolve it definitively. The only way I can imagine is that I add these images to my 2GB collection, then upload the whole collection AGAIN!!! But I'm looking for a way that I can inject only new files without re-uploading the whole collection. So is there any way to do this? any good way or software?

• trouble installing mercurial 1.5 on os x 10.5.8 (without using MacPorts)

  i'm having trouble installing mercurial 1.5 (build 20100307) from the prebuilt installer on os x 10.5.8. the installer is halting telling me that i need to install python 2.6 to continue. i've installed the latest version of python (2.6.5) twice now but its not helping. which python is reporting /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/python, but i can see that i also have 2.3 and 2.5 in /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions directory, which i suspect is being picked up by the installer ahead of the 2.6 install. if possible i'd like to install mercurial and python without having to resort to MacPorts, but if that is the only option then so be it :)

They suggest to choose the way you want... with or without dash and create a 301 permanent redirect to the preferred way. So if I choose without dash, when I try to access http://domain.com/products/ it will return a 301 to the link without dash: http://domain.com/products. • Backup Gmail using Mail.app and IMAP without redundancy

  I don't care for actually using mail app, I use mostly the gmail interface and mail app just for offline, for quickly reading and eventually replying. Everything is working fine, I think I've followed every guide out there... Here's a great one. But I could find nothing about avoiding redundancy. Well, I can manually do that either by using POP or by checking off most of my labels out of IMAP. But I do use a lot of labels and I often label messages with more than 1 label. And I want them on mail app. Is there anyway to make it keep just 1 copy of repeated messages? Maybe there's a message id or checksum that could be used... If there isn't a way to do it, be assured I still prefer having the extra messages and "wasting" space rather than not having any. edit: I've came across many solutions for finding duplicate files, but they just delete the files. That just make things worst: Mail will just sync it all again. I've realized it's probably better to keep two accounts setup, POP for backup and IMAP for everything else with removing the "All Mail" from it. That's because if the "All Mail" on the server is deleted for any reason, my "All Mail" local will also get deleted, while POP will keep all files regardless of the server. This doesn't solve the redundancy issue at all, but it doesn't create any new issue as well, and I can even use the search properly, without duplicated results, if I search just on the POP. So it helps optimizing a little bit. But I still think the best way to solve this issue would be having something such as aamann's Mail Scripts tweaked to hardlinking the duplicates rather than deleting, and optimized to not need to scan everything every time. I'm trying to contact him and see what we can do. At any pace, I'm still looking for an answer!

Now Win7 does give this option and i might also edit the BCD store to make changes in the boot menu of Win7 or could use EasyBCD. I dont want to use these options as i need to customize hiding/unhiding of partitions at the time of booting etc. I search and found GRUB might the tool i am looking for. I want to use GRUB loader without any version of Linux installed on the system. Can someone guide me how i can install the GRUB on harddisk MBR and configure the bootmenu. I search internet and mostly i came across commands which search the GRUB on the harddisk because of existing linux installation and then try to repair it. In my case there is no Linux at all. I have Ubuntu 9.10 bootable CD/ OpenSUSE 11.2 liveCD and installation disc. Can i use them to install GRUB on my system?

When i switch on apc.stat="1", the responses are about 50ms - 80ms which is quite good, but i cannot understand why is apc.stat="0" so much whorse. The APC diagnostic tool shows "1 Segment(s) with 64.0 MBytes (mmap memory, pthread mutex Locks locking)" in general cache information window so i hope i am right that it's mmap setup which allows tweaking APC shm onto upper values than shows system limit in /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax (my shows 33MB).

• Windows 7: Touch gestures in IE not working without explorer.exe being run once

  Details: Internet Explorer 9 and Windows 7 Professional, running on a HP TouchSmart (touch screen PC). It is going to be a kiosk PC (running a custom GUI for displaying websites). Scenario 1: When running Internet Explorer as a normal program in Windows 7, touch functions work perfectly. I can scroll the website by dragging it with my finger, I can pinch zoom and I can touch-and-hold right click. I now change the default shell in Windows to Internet Explorer (ie. IE starts instead of explorer.exe). Internet Explorer of course starts up when logging in. However, touch functions are reduced to basic clicking (no dragging, no pinch zooming, no touch-and-hold right click). Then I manually start explorer.exe, and the touch functions work again! And here is the weird part: When I kill explorer.exe, the touch functions keeps working - even if I close IE and start a new instance. Scenario 2: The exact same, but instead of changing the default shell to Internet Explorer, I change it to my own program, which uses an embedded Internet Explorer ("WebBrowser"). Same thing happens. What I've tried: Autorun programs: When explorer.exe launches, it launches all the autorun programs. There are no relevant programs being run by explorer, but just in case, I have manually started all the autorun programs, so that it is identical (but without explorer.exe) to a normal login. It still does not work (until I launch explorer.exe). Specifically TabTip.exe, TabTip32.exe and wisptis.exe are all running. All services are also started. To sum it up Running explorer.exe once changes something in the touch capabilities of Internet Explorer. It doesn't matter if explorer.exe is running - as long as it has been run once. Does anyone know what causes this behavior? Or how I can circumvent it neatly? Thanks!

• How to install/upgrade to Windows 8.1 RTM without a Microsoft account

  When I installed Windows 8, I deliberately chose not to use a Microsoft account to sign in. I like to keep things separate, and just logon with a tradional local account. Any apps that require me to sign-in with my Live account, will have to prompt me to sign-in. Now, I just updated to 8.1, but towards the end of the setup process, I was asked to sign-in with a Microsoft account or create one. Unlike when installation Windows 8, there didn't seem to be any option to skip that step, or otherwise close the sign-in prompt and continue to my updated Windows installation. At least not that I could find. This is particular annyoing, when setting up computers for friends and family, whom I support. They may not have, or have any interest in getting, a Microsoft account and I'm reluctant to use my own. I realize I can disconnect my Microsoft account after the fact, but is there really no way to install, or upgrade to, Windows 8.1, without being forced to create a Microsoft account? If there is, how does one go a about that?

I can SSH to other machines on the network without any problems, and other machines can SSH to the problematic one as well. • Google Chrome does not launch after some months without using it in Windows XP/Seven

  Well, I have in computers I use with Windows XP or Seven more than one browser installed on them, generally Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 4, Opera 11 and Google Chrome. I often use Firefox, but I want to use Google Chrome sometimes because I have a lot of addons and webapps on it. The issue is: when I try to execute Chrome after some months without using it, it does not function. Using Proccess Explorer or Task Manager, I can see that there is not any Google proccesses running. Then I reinstall it and all functions. But if I do not use it for some months again, it will not function... Is it an update problem? Must I use Chrome everyday or is there another way to avoid that issue? PS: I installed English and Portuguese last versions (how to get the version numbers when it does not execute?), not at the same time, and it continues to do not launch... • SYS-5016T-MTFB will not POST without manual assistance (Motherboard: X8STi-F)

  I have a Supermicro 5016T-MTFB 1U server which I am in the process of setting up, but it has a really strange problem. When the system is powered on it will not POST until I press the reset button a few times, followed by pressing the delete key on the keyboard to "wake it up". If I power it on and do nothing, the fans spin up but nothing else happens at all. After pressing the reset button once, the red "overheat" light comes on and blinks which is supposed to indicate a fan failure - but all the fans are working. Pressing reset again usually stops the blinking, and the system starts the normal POST routine but it will not actually get to the bios screen unless I press delete. If I don't press delete, it just continues to hang. After pressing delete it will take me into the bios setup screen, if I exit without saving changes I can boot the system normally. I was able to successfully install Linux with no trouble...but upon rebooting the same problem happened again. This board has integrated IPMI which I thought was the problem, so I disabled it via the jumper on the board. Did not help. Each time this system powers on, it goes on for a second, then turns off again for another second, then turns back on again. I don't know why it does that. Here is what I put in the system: 1 x Xeon E5630 (Nehalem) 80W TDP (it's not overheating, CPU temps stay under 40 degrees C) 2 x Kingston 2GB x 3 DDR3-1066 Memory ECC, unbuffered, unregistered (kvr1066d3e7sk3/6g) 1 x Intel X25-M 160 GB 2 x Western Digital RE3 1TB

• Using AddEncoding x-gzip .gz without actual files

  With Apache (2.2 and later) how can I achieve the following. I want to transparently compress using GZip encoding (not plain Deflate) the output when a certain file is queried with its name plus the extension .gz, where the .gz version doesn't physically exist on disk. So let's say I have a file named /path/foo.bar and no file foo.bar.gz in the folder to which the URI /path maps, how can I get Apache to serve the contents of /path/foo.bar but with AddEncoding x-gzip ... applied to the (non-existing) file? The rewrite part appears to be easy, but the problem is how to apply the encoding to a non-existent item. The other way around also seems to be simple as long as the client supports the encoding. Is the only solution really a script that does this on the fly? I'm aware of mod_deflate and mod_gzip and it is not what I'm looking for - at least not alone. In particular I need an actual GZIP file and not just a deflated stream. Now I was thinking of using mod_ext_filter, but couldn't bridge the gap between rewriting the name of the (non-existent) file.gz to file on one side and the LocationMatch on the other. Here's what I have. • Computer restarts without warning; code bcc116

  Processor: Intel i5 4430 4-Core 4x3Ghz Motherboard: msi h87-g41 Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX760 Power supply: eps-750 cm RAM: 8GB I bought a new assembled gaming PC which worked fine for a few days. Then it started rebooting without warning. After it restarts windows 7 gives me an bbc 116 error code. Apparently it's something to do with my video card, either it overheating or wrong drivers. I've installed the latest driver from Nvidia for my graphics card. Since it's brand new it can't be dust, I'm running it with its lid open to see if the problem persists. I'm also running prime95 now to see if it tells me anything else. Using core temp it tells me that my CPU reaches up to 95° celsius with the blend stress test from prime95. Aaaand it just peaked to 100°. Of course it doesn't reach these temperatures at all while idle/gaming. I'm gonna let prime95 run for a night and to see what happens. Until then does anyone know what I should do next?

• Firefox does not upgrade properly (infinite installation loop without success)

  I've been using Firefox for a long time but I have a problem with upgrading process now. As you know, Firefox automatically checks for the latest version and downloads it, and when it is ready to be installed it starts the installation process as usual. Last month, when I clicked on "OK, install v3.6.2", the process started but couldn't be finished properly. FF gave a message like that: "Installation cannot be completed, please restart Firefox to retry". When I restarted FF, the same thing happened, and the process entered in an infinite loop. I restarted my PC and clicked on FF icon, and again the installation process began and went into the infinite loop. My solution to this problem was to download FF 3.6.2 and manually install it after killing firefox.exe. Today, FF proposed me to install v3.6.3 and again the same problem occured. I manually downloaded FF 3.6.3 and installed it successfully. Anyone experiencing this problem? In case you want to know, I did not install any new addons in the last few months, and my FF operates without problems. I'm using Windows 7 Home Pro x64.

• Getting Windows (VMware) to load from OSX's localhost without an Internet Connection

  I'm using MAMP to host my local sites, and VirtualHostX so that I can access sites during local development via a convenient URL like mysite.dev I'm also running Windows XP via VirtualBox, and it would be great to be able to load up any of my local sites within windows while offline as currently often working without access, on the move, unfortunately. I know that I can append my IP and a nice domain name to the host file in C:/WINDOWS/system32/drivers/etc ... and i can find my IP simply through terminal with "ifconfig" while I'm online. The problem is that when I'm not online, there's no IP. Even if there is an IP (when i have a connection), I still have grab it and update the windows hosts' file all the time, since I'm developing from a laptop and have a new IP at the drop of a dime. I found a tutorial where the author is able to get a permanent IP. He uses VMware Fusion as his VMachine, which is the only difference between his setup and mine. By running the terminal command "ifconfig vmnet1" he gets: a secret IP the virtual machine uses to talk to OSX And that doesn't change - which is awesome. I'm assuming it exists even if he's offline. His tutorial is here, http://bit.ly/U2lq It would be pretty fantabulous if I could replicate this with virtualBox. Anyone have ideas? Thanks:)

• Swap static public IPs without creating DNS conflicts?

  Our ISP is Comcast and we have 5 static public IPs from them that we use for various services, including customers connecting to our network, VPN, web, DNS, etc... We need more IP addresses from Comcast. Unfortunately, Comcast is telling us that they can't just simply give us 5 more addresses. They only give static IP addresses in blocks of 1, 5 or 13. In order for us to get more static IPs, they have to take away our current 5 static IPs and give us 13 new ones. How do we make this transition without causing all sorts of DNS chaos? We run public DNS servers, so we can make the DNS changes ourselves, but it will take some time obviously for those DNS changes to propagate throughout the internet. Are there any easy ways to make this transition? Like create some type of fallback DNS entry or something? Surely there must be some sort of procedure for this kind of thing. The Comcast support guy was useless.

Nothing that unusual - just greg logging in and out via samba. You'll notice there is a cron running for root every minute - ignore this - this isn't the issue either it was some check I've been doing to discover its problem. Jun 2 10:41:43 chai syslog: syslogd startup succeeded That restart was called manually by hand - by clicking the restart button on the box. So basically messages isn't revealing many secrets. dmesg only shows from startup. If there is any output I should paste. Just say when and where and it'll be done. Thanks for your help! Tim

• How to move a sata drive to a machine without AHCI mode

  I've got a Dell Inspiron 1545 on which the screen has died. I'm able to plug an external monitor into the Inspiron 1545 and it works fine, so the screen is the only issue. The OS is Win7. I'm trying to move the disk to a spare Dell Precision M90 laptop that I've got lying around. The problem is that almost as soon as the Windows logo appears in the boot sequence I get a BSOD with a STOP 0x0000007B message. Researching this message pointed to issues with SATA AHCI mode. I looked in the BIOS of the Inspiron 1545 and the controller was set to AHCI mode. I set it to ATA mode and tried to boot with the same drive and got the same result as on the Precision M90. Switching back to AHCI allowed the machine to boot correctly again. I checked the BIOS on the Precision M90 and it doesn't seem to support AHCI mode, although it is a SATA controller onboard. The BIOS is the latest A08 version available from Dell. Is there any way I can get this drive to boot in the M90 without reformatting it?

• PHP enable sqlite phpinfo states --without-sqlite

  I've seen similar questions but none that address my situation adequately. I'm running Apache and PHP 5.3.6 on a amazon cloud server. phpinfo keeps stating that sqlite is disabled. At least that what it seems from the configure line: './configure' ... '--without-sqlite' In other parts of phpinfo() output: PDO PDO drivers mysql, sqlite PDO Driver for SQLite 3.x enabled SQLite Library 3.6.20 sqlite3 SQLite3 support enabled SQLite3 module version 0.7-dev SQLite Library 3.6.20 Directive Local Value Master Value sqlite3.extension_dir no value no value and at least one the following PHP commands fail: if (!extension_loaded('SQLite') OR !function_exists('sqlite_open')) Yum install states that both sqlite and pdo-lite are already installed. I've tried to enable sqlite by editing my local php.ini by adding: ; Enable sqlite3 extension module extension=sqlite3.so I've checked the main php.ini (/etc/php.ini) and there is nothing specific about disabling it. In fact, there is a sub-conig file loaded in php.d that also specifies this extension as well as another for the pdo-sqlite I'm running of things to look for or try. Any suggestions. How do I find where the PHP configure is stated? Thanks
