Most topics covering jqgrid and asp.net seem to relate to just receiving JSON, or working in the MVC framework, or utilizing other handlers or web services... but not many dealt with actually passing parameters back to an actual webmethod in the codebehind. Furthermore, scarce are the examples that contain successful implementation the AJAX paging, sorting, or searching along with LINQ to SQL for asp.net jqGrid. You can retrieve the file from downloading here. You will find the file in the "DynamicQuery" folder. That file will give you the ability to utilized dynamic ORDERBY clause since we don't know what column we're filtering by except on the initial load. To serialize the JSON back from the C-sharp to the JS, I incorporated the James Newton-King JSON.net DLL found here : http://json.codeplex.com/releases/view/37810. After downloading, there is a "Newtonsoft.Json.Compact.dll" which you can add in your Bin folder as a reference Here's my USING's block using System; using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; using System.Web.Services; using System.Linq.Dynamic; For the Javascript references, I'm using the following scripts in respective order in case that helps some folks: 1) jquery-1.3.2.min.js ... 2) jquery-ui-1.7.2.custom.min.js ... 3) json.min.js ... 4) i18n/grid.locale-en.js ... 5) jquery.jqGrid.min.js For the CSS, I'm using jqGrid's necessities as well as the jQuery UI Theme: 1) jquery_theme/jquery-ui-1.7.2.custom.css ... 2) ui.jqgrid.css The key to getting the parameters from the JS to the WebMethod without having to parse an unserialized string on the backend or having to setup some JS logic to switch methods for different numbers of parameters was this block postData: { searchString: '', searchField: '', searchOper: '' }, Those parameters will still be set correctly when you actually do a search and then reset to empty when you "reset" or want the grid to not do any filtering Hope this helps some others!!!! When I remove the link line from the HTML doc for site_header.css and instead use an @import url("/css/site_header.css"); in my main.css file, the same results -- nothing gets rendered for for the same div. Now when I take the CSS markup from site_header.css and add it to main.css, the div gets rendered fine... So I am wondering if having multiple css files is somehow not working... or maybe having that css markup at the end of my previous css is somehow conflicting, though I cannot find a reason why it would.

  I need to load aspx page into jQuery UI's modal dialog window. I used following approach: load page content via ajax call into dialog's div and show it: $.get('Page.aspx', function(response){ $('#dialog').html(response); $("#dialog").dialog('open'); }); but I've got very strange error (IE8) in line 137215738 (!): 'theForm.elements.length' - is null or not an object. JS debbuger says that source code is not available for such location. I have an assumption that this error happens because of multiple 'form' tags that appears on page after ajax call I wonder, how can i fix this? Or maybe some other way of showing aspx page in modal dialog?

  Hi I'm a newbie with dynatree, but happy that i've found this supercool plugin. On the dynatree site, I've found an example how to use it with IFrames http://wwwendt.de/tech/dynatree/doc/sample-iframe.html I was able to adapt the IFrame example successfully. But i'm a bit stuck here, because I'd like to load the tree either via UL/LI or better, with Jason/Ajax. my problem now is, that I dont understand how to provide ther url/links with LI or Jason, so that clicking an entry still opens the linked site in the iframe. Also don't know how I have to format parents/children/subchildren in Json.. Would anybody be so kind to give a sample with iframe and jason/ajax or iframe with ul/li? Thanks a lot :-) G

  I need a way to use the jquery .live() function to act on elements that are loaded via ajax. For instance a div is loaded via ajax .load() <div id="mydiv"></div> Normally I do .live() with a click event, but I need to know how to tell the dom that this new div has loaded without any explicit actions/events from the user. This code doesn't work, but I want to do something like this: mydiv = $("#mydiv"); mydiv.live("mydiv.length > 0", function() { // do something }); The "mydiv.length" being a substitue for the typical "click" or other event.

  I've read all the results I can find on SO about this without finding anything that applies to me, so don't judge me too quickly :) I am using jquery.autocomplete downloaded from here: http://www.dyve.net/jquery/?autocomplete together with http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.3.2.js This all works well in IE8 and FF, but as soon as I activate compability mode in IE8 I keep getting: Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method When looking in the call stack, This is the one where it breaks: <script type="text/javascript"> $().ready(function() { $("#friendsearch").autocomplete("/Account/FindFriends"); }); </script> and then the calling function is this: if ( jQuery.readyList ) { // Execute all of them jQuery.each( jQuery.readyList, function(){ this.call( document, jQuery ); }); // Reset the list of functions jQuery.readyList = null; } where this line throws the error: this.call( document, jQuery ); Does anybody know why this happens? So, at the moment, i have something that looks like this (ignoring the fact the tags arent perfect. <Transport> <Message> <Content><[CDATA...] XML Content in here </Cdata></Content> </Message> </Transport> This has worked pretty well for the last few years, however, now the XML content itself needs to contain its own CDATA tags and its causing me grief because you cannot nest CDATA sections. Is there another way to encode the 'XML Content' internally?

While trying to upload a video in Android, I'm reading it into memory, and if the video is large I get an OutOfMemoryError.   I have an existing JSF 1.2 app that was a portlet running on glassfish v2. I'm converting it to a webapp running on glassfish v3. The app uses tomahawk subforms in several areas. Tomahawk has not been update for JSF 2, which is what ships with glassfish v3. We would like to update our app to JSF 2. Is there a JSF 2 equivalent to tomahawk's subform? I know one option would be to change all of the subforms to be ajax enabled and use the execute attribute to specify which controls take part in the form submission, but would like to make this as straight across as I can without modifying existing functionality if I can. So, lacking a tomahawk subform substitute, is there any way to specify partial form submission for non ajax events?

  Hi, I am trying to develop auto horizontal scrolling for our website using - jQuery.ScrollTo / jQuery.SerialScroll. I am not sure if this is the best jquery library to do that, but if there's something better, please let me know. Here's the behavior that I want, check out foursquare's "Recent Activity" list. The data that will refresh will come from a ajax request that I make every few seconds using window.setInterval. I am not really a CSS/java script guy so I havent been able to figure out jQuery.SerialScroll. Here's the website - look at the "Live job Feeds" list. Currently the list does refresh the data coming from the ajax call, but I dont see the effect, the animation, in fact I dont even think serialScroll is being used. Right now I am doing a - $('#feed-ticker').prepend(content) to pre-append the newly arrived data. You can do a view source to look at the current code. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

• Modal MessageBox for ASP.NET without jQuery

  I have an assembly with custom ASP.NET server controls that is used in several, mostly in-house, ASP.NET 2.0 applications. The server controls use simple modal popup messageboxes, which are currently implemented using the javascript alert and confirm functions. I want to release a new version of this assembly that uses a better solution for messageboxes, including support for Yes/No buttons. The appearance would be something like a simplified version of the Ajax Control Toolkit ModalPopup extender (sample here). My constraints are that this should be as easy as possible to integrate into existing ASP.NET 2.0 applications without introducing new dependencies: ideally just drop in a new version of the assembly, that contains all the javascript it needs as an embedded resource, and possibly a CSS file. Because of this constraint, I am not considering solutions I've seen that use jquery, or the ASP.NET Ajax Control Toolkit, which appears to require adding elements to pages that use the extenders (ScriptManagers and the like). Any recommendations?

  I have a bulk uploading object in place that is being used to bulk upload roughly 25-40 image files at a time. Each image is about 100-150 kb in size. During the upload, I've created a for each loop that takes the file name of the image (minus the file extension) to write it into a column named "sku". Also, for each file being uploaded, the date is recorded to a column named DateUpdated, as well as some image path data. This is because these product images are always being revised and improved. For each new/improved image, the file name and extension will remain the same - so that when image 321-54321.jpg was first uploaded to the server, the new/improved version of that image will still have the image file name as 321-54321.jpg. I can't say for sure if the file sizes will remain in the 100-150KB range. I'll assume that the image file size will grow eventually. When images get uploaded (again), there of course will be an existing record in the database for that image. What is the best way to: Check the database for the existing record (stored procedure or SqlDataReader or create a DataSet ...?) Then if record exists, simply UPDATE that record so that the DateUpdated column gets today's date. If no record exists, do the INSERT of the record as normal. Things to consider: If the record exists, we'll let the actual image be uploaded. It will simply overwrite the existing image so that the new version gets displayed on the web. We're using SQL Server 2000 on hosted environment (DiscountAsp). I'm programming in C#. The uploading process will be used by about 2 managers a few times a month (each) - which to me is not a allot of usage. Although I'm a jr. developer, I'm guessing that a stored procedure would be the way to go. Just seems more efficient - to do this record check away from the for each loop... but not sure. I'd need extra help writing a sproc, since I don't have too much experience with them. Thank everyone...

  Hi, I am trying to develop auto horizontal scrolling for our website using - jQuery.ScrollTo / jQuery.SerialScroll. I am not sure if this is the best jquery library to do that, but if there's something better, please let me know. Here's the behavior that I want, check out foursquare's "Recent Activity" list. The data that will refresh will come from a ajax request that I make every few seconds using window.setInterval. I am not really a CSS/java script guy so I havent been able to figure out jQuery.SerialScroll. Here's the website - look at the "Live job Feeds" list. Currently the list does refresh the data coming from the ajax call, but I dont see the effect, the animation, in fact I dont even think serialScroll is being used. Right now I am doing a - $('#feed-ticker').prepend(content) to pre-append the newly arrived data. You can do a view source to look at the current code. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

I'm using Dan Grossman's bootstrap-themed date picker and it's been great so far (https://github.com/dangrossman/bootstrap-daterangepicker). The basic goal is to watch the span that this jQuery date ranger picker updates, and then use knockout to pass this value to another part of the app for the ajax request. I've tried everything I can find online.. valueUpdate:change on the span to using some jQuery within knockout to get the same goal done, to using a subscribe function to watch the value of the span before and after the date picker is used. Apparently this uses the jQuery .change() event handler, which is only good on inputs, selects, and textareas.. not spans.
