  • Only one domain is not resolving via Windows DNS server at multiple locations, but is at others

    I'm having quite a weird issue. Had mail delivery issues to a specific domain. After looking closer, I realized that the DNS for that domain isn't resolving via the in-house Windows 2003 SP2 DNS server. C:\>nslookup foodmix.net Server: DC.DOMAIN.com Address: 10.1.1.1 DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds. DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds. *** Request to DC.DOMAIN.com timed-out (DC.DOMAIN.com and 10.1.1.1 are generic values to replace the actual ones) Even if I run this nslookup from the DC.DOMAIN.com server, I get the same result. However, all other requests are working as they should. I had a sysadmin friend try this DNS lookup on servers at several companies that he consults for (which are also Windows 2003 AD servers). The weird thing is some of these were having the same exact issue. However using public DNS servers work. I have tried clearing the DNS cache, restarting the server, restarting the services, etc. Nothing has worked. One weird event I noticed in the DNS Server Event Logs that might be related is an event ID of 5504 with the following description: The DNS server encountered an invalid domain name in a packet from 192.33.4.12. The packet will be rejected. The event data contains the DNS packet. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. In the data section below, I can see the following mentioned: ns2.webhostingstar.com Which happens to be the nameserver for the domain in question. Several discussion threads and a MS KB have pointed to disabling EDNS. I have done this via "dnscmd /config /enableednsprobes 0" and it has not fixed the issue.

  • Why does apache httpd tell me that my name-based virtualhosts only works with SNI enabled browers (RFC 4366)

    Why does apache give me this error message in my logs? Is it a false positive? [warn] Init: Name-based SSL virtual hosts only work for clients with TLS server name indication support (RFC 4366) I have recently upgraded from Centos 5.7 to 6.3, and by that to a newer httpd version. I have always made my ssl virtualhost configurations like below. Where all domains that share the same certificate (mostly/always wildcard certs) share the same ip. But never got this error message before (or have I, maybe I haven't looked to enough in my logs?) From what I have learned this should work without SNI (Server Name Indication) Here is relevant parts of my httpd.conf file. Without this VirtualHost I don't get the error message.   • Server-side SSH jump hosts

    Trying to figure out server side SSH jump hosts logic. Current network schema: [Client] <--> [Server A: hostname: a.com] <--> [Server B] [Client] <--> [Server A: hostname: b.com] <--> [Server C] Server A responds to both DNS records. Possible flow: Client opens a ssh connection with ssh user@a.com. Server A accepts it and should automatically jump user onto Server B with ssh user2@server_b.com. Client opens a ssh connection with ssh user@b.com. Server A accepts it and should automatically just user onto Server C with ssh user2@server_c.com. In other words, client should be able to connect to the target without performing any local configuration, assuming that we have a stock ssh config. The problem with ssh jumps is that user has to define hosts in local ~/.ssh/config file, which is not acceptable in my case. It needs to be a default sshd behavior. Im aware that you can define a custom command ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on server, but i dont think there is a way to properly detect source hostname where user tries to connect. It is possible at all ?

  • HAProxy, health checking multiple servers with different host names

    I need to load balance between multiple running servers with different host names. I cannot set-up the same virtual host on each one. Is it possible to have only one listen configuration with multiple server and make the Health Checks apply the http-send-name-header Host directive? I am using HAProxy 1.5. I came up with this working haproxy.cfg, as you can see, I had to set a different hostname for each health check as the health check ignores the http-send-name-header Host.     I've been looking at RFC5424 to find the formally specified marker that will end a syslog event. Unfortunately I couldn't find it. So If I wanted to implement some small syslog server that reacts on certain messages what is the marker that ends a message (yes commonly an event is a single line, but I just couldn't find it in the specification) Clarification: I call it event because I associate a message with a single line. An event could possibly be some thing like Type: foo Source: webservers whereas a message to me is this: Type: foo Source: webservers http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5424#section-6 defines: SYSLOG-MSG = HEADER SP STRUCTURED-DATA [SP MSG] neither STRUCTURED-DATA nor MSG tell me how these fields end. Especially MSG is defined as as MSG-ANY / MSG-UTF8 which expands to virtually anything. There's nothing that says a newline marks the end (or an 8 or an a for that matter).   • Sending same email through two different accounts on different domains using Outlook 2010

    I am a programmer and don't have experience in Outlook configurations. Our company has two email domains namely xyz.com and xyz.biz. Each employee has an email id on one of these domains but not both depending on the project they are working on. The problem we are facing is that when a communication email is sent from the Accounts, HR, Admin, etc departments, they need to send the email twice. Once through the xyz.com account to all employees with an email address on xyz.com and once through xyz.biz to all employees with an email address on xyz.biz. I am not sure why they have to send two separate emails but the IT team has directed all departments to do so as there is no other solution according to them. Even though two different groups have been created, sending an email to employees in a group of xyz.biz from xyz.com does not seem to work. I want to know if Outlook provides a feature such that we can configure some kind of rules to send an email through an id on xyz.com to all users on xyz.com and the same email gets sent automatically to users on xyz.biz through an id on xyz.biz. The only technical details I know is that we are using Exchange 2003 and the IT team claims that this is a limitation causing the problem. Edit: Our company is split into two main divisions depending on the type of projects. I am pretty sure I use domain XYZ wheras the employees in the other division use the doman ABC to log in into the windows machine or outlook itself. Also, employees in domain XYZ can access the machines on the network in domain ABC but not the other way around

  • Import data in Excel that doesn't have a row delimiter, but number of columns is known

    So i have this text file that looks something like this: Header1 Header2 Header3 Header4 A1 B1 C1 D1 A2 B2 C2 D2 and so on. When imported, I'd want the data to format itself in 4 columns. I tried the Get External Data from Text, and it successfully imports it, but it doesn't wrap it around, so it just keeps making columns for every space. I'd want it to go on the next line after 4 (in this case) elements have been added. What's the simplest way to achieve this? EDIT: My answer follows, since I'm not yet allowed to answer my own questions yet. The Excel function I needed is called indirect(). Not sure how it actually works though, so hopefully someone can help out with that, but the function call that worked for me is =INDIRECT(ADDRESS((ROW(A1)-1)*4+COLUMN(A1),1)) which i found over here: http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101584&p=456031#post456031 Note: this required me to add the text to excel where i'd get this row full of columns, and then flip it so that i'd have a column full of rows.

  • Using sed to Download ComboFix automatically

    I'm trying to write a shell script to grab the dynamic URL which ComboFix is located at at BleepingComputer.com/download/combofix However, for some reason I can't seem to get my regex to match the download link of the "click here" if the download doesn't work. I used a regex tester and it said I matched the link, but I can't seem to get it to work when I execute it, it turns up an empty result.   • php-cgi.exe Taking out server, multiple running

    I have been using ZendServer CE for over a year and have never had a problem. Recently, about a week or two ago I have found my server to be acting up and even causing RDP to be un-connectable. After some looking around I have 20, 25, 30+ php-cgi.exe running. With my IIS7 service starting with Windows once my server started all these php-cgi.exe would start running (even though the limit is 10) and I could not even connect to it. After disabling the Web Server as startup which stops php-cgi.exe from running the server runs flawless, like it always has. As soon as I run the web server all these odd issues start. I have a post over at Zend http://forums.zend.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=41043&p=95133 where I was told to update my Zend install. After doing so this issue has not gone away. Even running 1 php-cgi.exe (somehow 2 start anyway) the server begins to go silly. The first issue I find myself with running php-cgi.exe is that Windows Services, weather be stock or using FireDaemon begin to lag, slow start, crash, etc. If anyone can help me with this I would GREATLY appreciate it. At this time I am forced to look for a alternative to running PHP other than cgi as it simply takes out the whole box. On another note, I run this same version of Zend on a similar server with no issues. Starting to think its a IIS issue. (UPDATE) Installed newest version of PHP, separate from Zend, same issue. Server Specs: Intel Xeon Quad w HT Nehlam Based 24GB DDR3 1333 2x1TB Raid Mirror OS 2x1TB Raid Mirror (Other) 4x2TB Raid 5 (Storage) Server 2008 R2

    Any idea who that guy is running alongside the Caped Crusader? That’s Nightwing, but you may know him as Robin…well, the first Robin anyway. There were actually like 5 Robin’s according to Wikipedia: Dick Grayson, the original, who’s parents were circus performers killed by a gangster. Jason Todd, who was caught trying to steal tires off of the Batmobile. Tim Drake, who saw Dick’s parents die and figured out who Batman and Robin were. and a few others that get into recent time travel/altered reality storylines. What does this have to do with HR? Well, it somewhat ties in with an article by Alex Papadimoulis from 2008. In the article he talks about the “Cravath System”. The Craveth system was developed by a law firm called Cravath, Swaine & Moore back in the 19th century. In a nutshell, they believed in hiring the best and brightest straight out of school. These aspiring lawyers would then begin a fight for survival in the firm, with the strong surviving. In what’s termed the “Up and Out” rule, employees needed to be promoted within 3 years or leave the company. They should achieve partner within 7 – 8 years and no later than 10 after initially coming on board (read all about the system on Wikipedia here). Back to Alex’s article, he quotes from a book published in 1947 about the lawfirm: Under the “Cravath system” of taking a substantial number of men annually and keeping a current constantly moving up in the office, and its philosophy of tenure, men are constantly leaving… it is often difficult to keep the best men long enough to determine whether they shall be made partners, for Cravath-trained men are always in demand, usually at premium salaries. And so we see a pattern forming here: 1. Hire a whole whack of smart college graduates 2. Put them to work 3. The ones that stick around should move up the ladder. The ones that don’t stick around served the company well and left to expound the quality of the Cravath firm. Those that didn’t fall into either of those categories were just let go. There’s some interesting undercurrents to these ideas. If you stick around, you better keep your feet moving! I was at a Microsoft shindig a few months back, and was talking to a Microsoft employee. He shared that at MS you have 5 years to achieve a “senior” position within the company. Once you hit that mark, you can stay there for the rest of your career (he told about a guy who’s a “senior” developer and has been for the last 20+ years working on audio drivers for Windows), but you *must* hit that mark within the timeframe. What we see with Microsoft is Cravath’s system in action, whether intentional or not: bring in smart young people and see which ones stick. You need to give people something to work towards. Saying “You must reach this level or else!” is one way to look at it. The other way is to see achieving a higher rank in the organization as something for ambitious employees to reach towards. It’s important for an organization to always have the next generation of executives waiting in the wings, and unless you’re encouraging that early on you may find yourself in a position of needing to fill positions that nobody has been working towards. Now, you might suggest that this isn’t that big of a deal because you could just hire someone from outside the organization, but the Cravath system holds to the tenet of promoting internally; develop your own talent, since your business is the best place for the future leadership to learn teh business from. It’s OK for people to quit. Alex’s article really drives this point home, but its worth noting here also: its OK for your people to quit. In fact its inevitable…and more inevitable that it’ll be good people that leave. Some will stay and work towards the internal awards of promotion, but a number will get experience, serve the organization well, and then move on to something else. This should be expected and treated as a natural business occurrence. The idea of an alumni of an organization begins to come into play here: “That guy used to work for <insert company here>”. There’s a benefit in that: those best and brightest will be drawn to your organization and your reputation will permeate your market through former staff that are sought after because of how well you nurtured them. The Batman Hook All of this brings us back to Batman and his HR practice: when Dick decided he’d had enough of the Robin schtick, he quit and became his own…but he was always associated with Batman and people understood where his training had come from. To the Dark Knight’s credit, he continued training partners under the Robin brand. Luckily he didn’t have to worry about firing any of them (the ship sort of sails when you reveal a secret identity), although there was that unfortunate “quitting” of the second Robin when the Joker blew him up…but regardless, we see the Cravath system at work: bring in talent, expect great things, and be ok with whatever they decide for their careers. It’s an interesting way to approach HR, and luckily for us our business isn’t as dangerous or over-the-top as the caped crusader’s.

    Dear All: I am reading here http://groovy.codehaus.org/modules/http-builder/doc/handlers.html "In cases where a response sends a redirect status code, this is handled internally by Apache HttpClient, which by default will simply follow the redirect by re-sending the request to the new URL. You do not need to do anything special in order to follow 302 responses." This seems to work fine when I simply use the get() or post() methods without a closure. However, when I use a closure, I seem to lose 302 handling. Is there some way I can handle this myself? Thank you p.s.     Hi at all, I have 2 site: example.com and exampletwo.com I want that when a user login on example.com then he is automatically authenticated also on exampletwo.com How can I do that ? I use Django + Nginx on first website and Tornado framework + Tornado server on second website. Thanks ;) . P.S. If you don't know this platforms ( Django or Tornado or Nginx ), I accept also a solution for a generic PHP+Apache platform and then I will do some research :)

    Hello, I've got log4j configured on my Java project with the following log4j.properties: log4j.rootLogger=WARNING, X log4j.appender.X=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender log4j.appender.X.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout log4j.appender.X.layout.ConversionPattern=%p %m %n log4j.logger.org.hibernate.SQL=WARNING log4j.logger.com.****.services.clarity.dao.impl=WARNING log4j.logger.com.****.services.clarity.controller=WARNING log4j.logger.com.****.services.clarity.services.impl=WARNING log4j.logger.com.****.services.clarity.feeds.impl=WARNING As configured, it should only print WARNING messages, however it prints all levels to DEBUG. any ideas where this can come from ?
