  • mysql database design: threads and replies

    - by ajsie
    in my forum i have threads and replies. one thread has multiple replies. but then, a reply can be a reply of an reply (like google wave). because of that a reply has to have a column "reply_id" so it can point to the parent reply. but then, the "top-level" replies (the replies directly under the thread) will have no parent reply. so how can i fix this? how should the columns be in the reply table (and thread table). at the moment it looks like this: threads: id title body replies: id thread_id (all replies will belong to a thread) reply_id (here lies the problem. the top-level replies wont have a parent reply) body what could a smart design look like to enable reply a reply?

  • Android - How to approach fall detection algorithm

    - by bobby123
    I want to be able to feature a fairly simple fall detection algorithm in my application. At the moment in onSensorChanged(), I am getting the absolute value of the current x,x,z values and subtracting SensorManager.GRAVITY_EARTH (9.8 m/s) from this. The resulting value has to be bigger than a threshold value 10 times in a row to set a flag saying a fall has been detected by the accelerometer, the threshold value is about 8m/s. Also I'm comparing the orientation of the phone as soon as the threshold has been passed and the orienation of it when the threshold is no longer being passed, this sets another flag saying the orientation sensor has detected a fall. When both flags are set, an event occurs to check is user ok, etc etc. My problem is with the threshold, when the phone is held straight up the absolute value of accelerometer is about 9.8 m/s, but when i hold it still at an angle it can be over 15m/s. This is causing other events to trigger the fall detection, and if i increase the threshold to avoid that, it won't detect falls. Can anyone give me some advice here with what possible values i should use or how to even improve my method? Many thanks.

  • How to store opening weekdays in a database

    - by JoaoPedro
    I have a group of checkboxes where the user selects some of the weekdays (the opening days of a store). How can I save the selected days? Should I save something like 0111111 (zero means closed on sunday) on the same field and split the result when reading the data? Or create a field for each day and store 0 or 1 on each (weird)?

  • Android move data between activities

    - by Parhs
    Example I have 4 activities. A B C D A is a list of objects. B C D are used to add a new object. So A calls B then C then D . However C or D have button to 'add the object' When going up from B or C or D to activity A , A should have a List with these objects. Even if user tap back items should be 'saved' However I dont want to start a new Intent at C or D because i dont want user to go back to A and then click again add new item. I have been adviced to keep these data at application object. Is there any other suggestion ?

  • Android: Problem with onMeasure()

    - by droid-test
    Hi I made a custom view. If I add the view to the layout XML file and I set the height to "fill_parent" "specSize" return 0. Why? Code: @Override protected void onMeasure(int widthMeasureSpec, int heightMeasureSpec) { int measuredHeight = 90; int specMode = MeasureSpec.getMode(heightMeasureSpec); int specSize = MeasureSpec.getSize(MeasureSpec.getMode(heightMeasureSpec)); if(specMode != MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED){ measuredHeight = specSize; } setMeasuredDimension(60, measuredHeight); } Does anyone know how I can get the height of "fill_parent"? Thanks!

  • [Android] Is disabling landscape mode unforgivable?

    - by Nicolas Raoul
    Our application could support landscape mode without any problem, but it is such a pain that we are thinking about forcing portrait mode. Question: Is it BAD? The main problem is that changing orientation generates random crashes on many screens. Avoiding those crashes would potentially allow us to spend more time on the core aspects of the app. Will the same crashes happen when users switch apps anyway? Also, are there landscape-oriented devices where our app will become useless?

  • Android change Tab image (not backgound)

    - by user1143989
    I am using a TabHost which has 3 tabs. Each tab has a image + text. spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("MyTasks") .setIndicator(Html.fromHtml("<b><H2>My Tasks</H2></b>"), getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.task )) .setContent(intent); tabHost.addTab(spec); I want to change image when I select a tab. I used following code to change it ... TabWidget tw = getTabWidget(); View leftTabView = tw.getChildAt(0); leftTabView.setBackgroundDrawable(getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.tab1_drawable)); tab1_drawable is a xml (selector and items for each state). THIS IS SETTING AND CHANGING BACKGROUND NOT THE IMAGE I SET. How can I change it?

  • Are there any Android YouTube Player Flags?

    - by stormin986
    My goal is to launch a video in the YouTube player, and then return to my app. I realize I can't control what's going on in another app, BUT I'm wondering if the YouTube app supports any kind of flags or data set in the calling Intent that might support this functionality. Anyone aware of any? I cannot find any documentation on the YouTube app/activities. I had to watch the logs just to figure out which activity to call in the first place (so the choose app dialog didn't appear).

  • PreferenceFragment - Difference between getPreferenceManager() and getPreferenceScreen()?

    - by Zynga Liker
    I've implemented my own PreferenceFragment subclass (detailed here), and want to listen for preference changes within it. PreferenceFragment provides you with two ways of doing this: getPreferenceManager().getSharedPreferences().registerOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(this); and getPreferenceScreen().getSharedPreferences().registerOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(this); Which one should be used? What's the difference? I don't really understand the distinction made in the Android docs.

  • Load image blurred Android

    - by Mira
    I'm trying to create a map for a game through an image, where each black pixel is equivalent to a wall, and yellow to flowers(1) and green grass(0) so far i had this image (50x50): http://i.imgur.com/Ydj9Cp2.png the problem here seems to be that, when i read the image on my code, it get's scaled up to 100x100, even tough i have it on the raw folder. I can't let it scale up or down because that will put noise and blur on the image and then the map won't be readable. here i have my code: (...) Bitmap tab=BitmapFactory.decodeResource(resources, com.example.lolitos2.R.raw.mappixel); //tab=Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(tab, 50, 50, false); Log.e("w", tab.getWidth()+"."+tab.getHeight()); for (int i = 0; i < tab.getWidth(); i++) { for (int j = 0; j < tab.getHeight(); j++) { int x = j; int y = i; switch (tab.getPixel(x, y)) { // se o é uma parede case Color.BLACK: getParedes()[x][y] = new Parede(x, y); break; case Color.GREEN: fundo.add(new Passivo(x,y,0)); break; default: fundo.add(new Passivo(x,y,1)); } } } How can i read my image Map without rescaling it?

And also how do modify my listview programatically(adding size and padding)? Here is my a part of my DBclass in selecting the items that I've displayed getFAData() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub String [] columns = new String[]{Row_Name}; Cursor c = ourDB.query(db_Table, columns, null, null, null, null, null); String res = ""; int iRow = c.getColumnIndex(Row_Name); //int iDesc = c.getColumnIndex(Row_Desc); //int iID = c.getColumnIndex(Row_id); for (c.moveToFirst(); !c.isAfterLast(); c.moveToNext()) { res = res + c.getString(iRow) + "\n"; } return res; } And here is class file: public class FirstAid extends Activity { @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.firstaid); displayresult(); } public void displayresult (){ TextView tvFa = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.tvFA); tvFa.setMovementMethod(new ScrollingMovementMethod()); DbHelper tblFa = new DbHelper(this); tblFa.open(); String result = tblFa.getFAData(); tblFa.close(); tvFa.setText(result); } }

  • Android Timer update UI between multiple tasks

    - by Rilcon42
    I have tried multiple ways to have a single persistent timer update the ui in multiple activities, and nothing seems to work. I have tried an AsyncTask, a Handler, and a CountDownTimer. The code below does not execute the first Log.i statement.... Is there a better way to start the timer (which must be called from another class) in Main (which is the only persistent class)? public static void MainLawTimer() { MainActivity.lawTimer = new CountDownTimer(MainActivity.timeLeft, 1000) { public void onTick(long millisUntilFinished) { Log.i("aaa","Timer running. Time left: "+MainActivity.timeLeft); MainActivity.timeLeft--; if(MainActivity.timeLeft<=0) { //do stuff } else { //call method in another class } }
