• How can I backup files on /etc using Deja Dup? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How do I open Deja Dup as root? I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I'm trying to setup Deja Dup to backup the files for several users (/home) and /etc but as it runs as myself, there are many files it cannot read and therefore cannot backup. I want to try running Deja Dup as root as then it should be able to read and backup all files. I've seen some other info about how to set up a particular App to run as root, so I guess I should try that.

  Recently i have some problems accessing websites. When i try to access it says This webpage is not available. I tried accessing the site through FireFox, Internet Explorer and Chrome. I also tried with using a web proxy but still the same problem. This problem is only in my Desktop PC, all the websites works fine in my laptop Currently i cant access, yahoo.com download.com bing.com proxy.org daniweb.com aol.com and many forums I check with the host file but nothing is blocked in that. • Tip: Keeping the ADF Mobile PDF Guide up to date

  This is a little tip for customers using Oracle's ADF Mobile. If you're like me, it's possible you don't rely on the online HTML version of the Mobile Developer's Guide for ADF, but rather download a PDF version of the file to use locally (look to the "PDF" link to the top right of the guide).  For me the convenience of the PDF is it's faster, I can search the whole document easily, I can split read the document across two pages on my home monitor, if I lose my internet connection the document is still available, and it's easy to read on my iPad (especially on long haul flights to the US across the Pacific where there is no internet connection!). The trigger point for me to download the Oracle PDF documentation has always been on a new point release of JDeveloper.  However in the case of ADF Mobile, as an extension to JDeveloper it is releasing at a much faster and independent schedule to JDeveloper and this includes updates to the documentation. As such the 11.1.2.4.0 ADF Mobile PDF guide you have locally might be out of date and you should take the opportunity to download the latest version.  This is also particularly important for ADF Mobile as not only are many new features being added for each release and included in the new documentation, but the guide is under rapid improvement to clarify much of what has been written to date.  Our documentation teams are super responsive to suggestions on how to improve the guides and this often shows per point release. How do you tell you've the latest guide? Look to the document part number which right now is "E24475-03".  This is a unique ID per release for the document, the first part being the document number, and the part after the dash the revision number.  If the website document number has a higher revision number, time to download a new up to date PDF.   Is there such thing? I designed a while back a rudimentary form based app for my users. We receive from our suppliers hardware manufacturing data in XML files: file name is made of eleven fields separated by tildes, with each field having its own meaning. R&D guys wanted to be able to search each field of the file names so I used regex() with decent results. Problem is that we have now in the upwards of 2.5 million files. And my app can't hack it anymore. I looked at Apache Lucene & Solr. Though it seemed like the best solution to my problem, the fields in the filenames are not peers to the file content. Big no-no with Solr. What is the best way to implement a PHP app with indexing and search capability with such large number of files? Do I have to buy Zend and use Zend_Search? Is it the only way? Thanks for your input.

• How to fix the boot set up?

  I got two OSes in my PC, Ubuntu and Windows 7. Until yesterday Windows 7 was on top of my dual-boot menu list, but I wanted to change it, so I went inside Windows configurations and put Ubuntu first, but I also set the time to 0 because I thought I could access Windows through Grub. But what happens is that after I upgraded Ubuntu to 11.10, that screen with boot options don't show Windows 7 anymore. I went online searching for a solution to my problem, most of them told me to configure some Grub options and others to use programs to do it. I've done them all and still can't access Windows 7. Just in case my problem is not clear yet, this is how was my boot order before I messed it all up: Windows 7 Ubuntu with a time of 10 secs to choose between both. This is how I wanted it to be: Ubuntu Windows 7 with 0 time to choose, but, inside Ubuntu I could access Windows through that Grub screen. But this is what happens: Ubuntu Windows 7 0 time, so it don't let me choose anything and jumps inside Ubuntu then inside Ubuntu grub doesn't show up anymore (black screen) and it starts Ubuntu normally. I tried to fix this many times from different ways inside Ubuntu but nothing worked, also when I try do something and then upgrade my grub with sudo upgrade-grub it shows this message: Generating grub.cfg ... Found Windows 7 (loader) on /dev/sda1 Skipping Windows 7 (loader) on Wubi system Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-12-generic Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-12-generic Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-12-generic Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-12-generic done Thats why in the title I said it could probably be my WUBI messing all up. Anyone heave a solution for this? Do you need more information? I have a netbook so I cannot use the Windows Repair CD.

Today we've got a VDI related question on linked clones: Question: I want to use linked clones with Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. What are my options? Answer by John Renko, Consulting Developer, Oracle: First, linked clones are available with the Oracle VirtualBox hypervisor only. Second, your choice of storage will affect the rest of your architecture. If you are using a SAN presenting ISCSI LUNS, you can have linked clones with a Oracle Enterprise Linux based hypervisor running VirtualBox. OEL will use OCFS2 to allow VirtualBox to create the linked clones. Because of the OCFS2 requirement, a Solaris based VirtualBox hypervisor will not be able to support linked clones on remote ISCSI storage. If you using the local storage option on your hypervisors, you will have linked clones with Solaris or Linux based hypervisors running VirtualBox. In all cases, Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure makes the right selection for creating clones - sparse or linked - behind the scenes. Plan your architecture accordingly if you want to ensure you have the higher performing linked clones.

• What do you do when one thinks the code isn't complicated enough?

  After six months of development on a project, our stakeholders have had a "gut check" and have decided that the path that we've been walking (a custom designed application framework and data access layer) is holding us (the developers) back from quickly developing the features they would like to see. After several days of debate management and the development team have decided to scrap the current incarnation and start over using ASP.net MVC, with Entity Framework as the bases of the a 'quick and dirty', lets just get it done project. In days following, our senior developer who has never worked with MVC or Entity Framework has finally gotten into a sample project and done some work. His take on ASP.net MVC, "this is not software engineering". So my question is this; what do you do, when one doesn't think the code is complicated enough?
