  How to use complex AJAX applications with a lot of menus and with X.509 authentications in non-GUI mode with simple browsers? For example, I can login to Webmoney from console using links/lynx/link2 (but not w3m), entering captcha (using aaxine) and do operations there, but can't login not using X.509 certificate (even if I try to separate SSL part using "socat tcp-l:... openssl:...:443,cert=extracted_from_firefox.pem") Is there some program that behaves like fully-fledged browser (build DOM/execute JS/Support all features except of actually displaying things), but without GUI and dependencies on GUI libraries?

• Windows authentication skip for one folder and allow local domain's user

  I have intranet application with windows authentication on it. Annonymous users are not allowed. Now i am trying to add one subfolder which should be allowed to local domain users too. I enabled "annonymous access" iis on that subfolder and that worked. but i am using AJAX(timer control) on one of page of that subfolder and when timer_ticks it gives "sys is undefined error". any idea to solve this issue?   say I have a wordpress site: https://www.foobar.com and I want to have an entry point to a rails app at a certain subdirectory within that same domain: https://www.foobar.com/rails_app I know this is possible if both the wordpress app and the rails app are hosted on the same box, but is this in anyway possible if they are hosted on different boxes? I do not want to use subdomains because I am trying to allow ajax post requests from one to the other and not having to deal with single origin policy stuff.

• Can I have both apache and nginx serve my websites?

  I have an existing apache serving a couple of sites. Now I have a new django site that's ajax intensive and so I'm planning to run it on apache's mod_wsgi but I'll use nginx as a reverse proxy. Is it possible to have nginx be a reverse proxy to this new django site while make apache serve the other sites directly without using nginx? Also if you can give me a rough setup on how I might do it if its possible.

  Hi I'm using a particular web app which for some strange reason runs only in IE and not in Firefox. I need to see which URLs are being fetched by internal components in the web app, such as AJAX requests and video sources being loaded in a video player. In Firefox I would have used Firebug... is there any tool I can use to see (not necessarily in real time or with a nice GUI) which URLs were requested by IE? Thanks

  I use Linux as primary OS. I need some suggestions regarding how should I set up my desktop and development. I do work on mostly .Net and Drupal, but some time on other lamp products and C/C++, Qt. I'm also interested in mobile (android..) and embedded development. Currently I install everything on my main OS, even I use it a little. I use VMs a little. Should I use separate VM for each kind of development (like one for .Net/Mono, another C++, one for mobile and one for db only, one for xyz things etc) Keep primary development environment on main os and moveothers in VM. main os should be messed up keep things easy to organize (must) performance should be optimal

It seems like I can ask a dozen question that these guys won't be able to answer but somehow because I don't know the latest fad counts against me. I do read, but if you don't use what you read in your daily work, you will never have expert knowledge of it. So bottom line: is the only way for me to take a .NET or Java job is for me to start at the bottom all over?

  I went to http://www.asp.net/mvc/ to try to install ASP.NET MVC. I didn't know, but MVC is now at version 2. There's a nifty thing called the Microsoft "Web Platform Installer" (WPI) which basically is a small installer-driver tool that presents a menu of things I might want to install, to do web things on Windows. On the menu are things like ASPNET MVC2, but also Drupal, PHP, Joomla, and a bunch of other things. From http://www.asp.net/mvc/, when I click on the link that says "Install MVC", it resolves to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=185037, which then pops up the WPI. But Then! I get an error dialog that reads "Installing ASPNET MVC2 requires VS2008 SP1". But I know that I have VS2008 SP1. What gives?

• Firefox adds <br> when paste from Word in TinyMCE

  I'm currently using TinyMCE 3.3 on a drupal site, with an annoying problem. Using both "paste from word"-button or "Force cleanup on paste" in Firefox cause TinyMCE to insert line-breaks in my paragraphs where the line would have ended in Word. In IE, I do not have this problem. When viewing the source code in the editor, it doesn't show a -tag, but an actual line-break. When viewing the normal text in the editor, I see no linebreak at all, but on saving, it's really there when viewing the page. Even in the beginning of every first line of every paragraph it insert a linebreak. How do I solve this?? "Remove linebreaks" isn't an option, since people want to insert linebreaks to create some vertical spacing.

  I'm creating a mobile website that will include a page from which people can download relevant apps that we recommend. I've found instructions for creating the links to launch the Market but this assumes that you are the developer of the app in question and know the exact package name. Is there any way to get the package name, other than just contacting the developers and asking? Also, it turns out that those instructions don't really work for creating web hyperlinks. They only give you a URI to reference in a string of Java code in another Android app. Our site is in Drupal, so Java is not going to work. For the iPhone, I found easy instructions for getting the URL/link style I need from the iTunes store, so I'm looking for info like that.

• Cannot select/edit TineMCE-generated table

  I'm currently using TinyMCE edit in my drupal-website, problem is that beneath the editor, some of the table is sticking out. If I remove the height set by javascript with firebug, it looks fine, even after resizing. So I want to remove the height with JS, I've put this function at the end of my page: $('table#edit-body_tbl').removeAttr('style'); However nothing happens. I test the function in firebug's console, it works perfectly. Basically, the problem is the JS works, but it wont do anything if I simply load it at the end of the page, even in the document.ready function. The TineMCE script is loaded before my script so I should be able to select/edit/delete elements generated by it no? Does anybody know why or how I can force the page to really load my function in the end(currently it is right in front of the -tag)? Other functions in the script work, except this thing ...

Currently, the CMS is quite flat - the CMS requires a field in the database for every type of stored value (manually created). The first option that comes to mind is simply a table which keeps the data types (ie: Address 1, Suburb, Email Address etc) and another table which holds values for each of these data types. Just like how Wordpress keeps values in the 'options' table, PHP serialize would be used to store an array of values. The second option is how Drupal works, the CMS creates tables for every data type. Unlike Wordpress, this can be a bit of an overkill but really useful for SQL queries when ordering and grouping by a particular value. What's everyone's thoughts?

• Static Website - Converting to Dynamic, need to import information from database on different host

  This seems really complicated to ask about so I hope someone can help: We have a long time running static website held with a hosting company that provide PHP, Ruby-on-Rails and Drupal/Joomla support. A little limited I know but we got reasonably decent search engine rankings and didn't want them to drop. We have two much more recently created sites on another host written in Python/Django. The original site is now too big to handle statically and we want to create a more dynamic site in its place without changing servers/webhosts. The data we want to provide the 'new' dynamic site is from the same database providing the Django sites. What is the best solution to build the new site with? Is it better to create PHP pages that connect to the database on the other host? Ruby-on-rails seems like a very fast development environment not too dissimilar to Django, would we be able to fetch data from the existing databases into a rails site and use similar urls to our old static pages?

  I've recently read about the model validation capabilities of ASP.NET MVC which are all very cool until a certain point. What happens if the application doesn't know the data that it works with because it is all stored in DB and built together at runtime. Just like in Drupal, I'd like to be able to define custom types at runtime, and assign runtime validation rules as well. Obviously, the idea of assigning attributes to well established models is now gone. What else could be done ? I am thinking in terms of rules being stored as JSON objects in the DB fields or something like that.

Security is a major concern and I'd like to learn from some of the popular PHP CMS's like Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, etc. What are some security flaws or vulnerabilities that they have they had in the past that I can avoid in my application and what strategies can I use to avoid them? What are other issues that I need to be concerned with that they perhaps didn't face as a vulnerability because they handled it correctly from the start?
