• Enable Proxy Authentication for normal windows application.

  my company's internet works on proxy server with Authentication(i.e. Browser prompts with window for username/password everytime i tried to access any web page). Now i have some windows application which tries to access internet(like WebPI/Visual Studio 2008 for rss feeds), but as they are unable to popup the the authentication window, they are unable to connect with internet with error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required . Here the exception is VS2008, first time it always fails to load rss feeds on startup page, but when i click on the link, it shows authentication window and everything works fine after that. my question is: How can i configure normal windows application(through app.config/app.manifest file) accessing web to able to show the authentication window or provide default credentials. For explore this furthor, i have created one console application on VS2008 which tries to serach something on google and display the result on console. • Keep an object for the time the connection is running in ASP.NET

  Hi, I'm developing a web service with ASP.NET, is not an .asmx or WCF, it's a custom one, so I'm working with the Http classes (context, request, response, etc..). Session is disabled. I'm working with my own handler and module. I'd like to keep a object alive and accessible for the time the connection is alive. I mean, a request enters, I assign a DbCommand to it and that connection will use that command as long is doing things, when that connection is ended, the object should be disposed. I've thought, that I can add it to my IPrincipal implementation, then when the connection is authenticated in the module and the user retrieved, I can add that DbCommand to the IPrincipal, so I can retrieve it from wherever I want in the code, and after in the module EndRequest event, I can dispose it, but I don't know if there is a better approach to do this. What do you think? cheers

• Invalidating ASP.NET FormsAuthentication server side

  I am experimenting with FormsAuthentication (using ASP.NET MVC2) and it is working fairly well. However, one case I can't work out how to deal with is validating the user identity on the server to ensure it is still valid from the server's perspective. eg. User logs in ... gets a cookie/ticket Out of band the user is deleted on the server side User makes a new request to the server. HttpContext.User.Identity.Name is set to the deleted user. I can detect this fine, but what is the correct way to handle it? Calling FormsAuthentication.SignOut in the OnAuthorization on OnActionExecuting events is too late to affect the current request. Alternatively I would like to be able to calls FormsAuthentication.InvalidateUser(...) when the user is deleted (or database recreated) to invalidate all tickets for a given (or all) users. But I can't find an API to do this.

  Hi, After many attempts to install Tomcat on IIS 7, I finally managed to get it working. At least I think so :-S. I finally got the 500 errors away, by setting the correct permissions. • IE8 AJAX GET setRequestHeaders not working unless params provided in URL

In IE8 however, all of my AJAX test requests work EXCEPT for ones where I'm performing GETs without any query string params (such as the one above). POSTs work without question, and GET requests only work whenever I include query strings in the URL, like this: xhr.open( 'GET', '/ajax/?foo=bar' ) I'm also 110% positive that my server code is handling these requests appropriately, so, this stumps me completely. Does anyone have any clue as to what might be causing this?

• Rewriting a Subdomain with mod-rewrite

  I have a project that uses the moodle library. I had to change the URL from moodle.example.com to learn.example.com, due to a client request. I thought this would be an easy change, but alas moodle inserts all links and images in with the complete url instead of the relative url. Is it possible using mod-rewrite to point all requests to moodle.example.com to learn.example.com and maintain the query string? Example: I want a request to: http://moodle.example.com/course/view.php?id=2&topic=1 to go to http://learn.example.com/course/view.php?id=2&topic=1. Is this possible? Thanks, Josh

• Using SharePoint user profiles to build a company phone directory

  I'm working on a Sharepoint 2007 (MOSS Std) intranet implementation right now, and one of the things we'd like to do is replace the manually-maintained phone directory with the profile information we're importing from AD. People search is great, but I want to have a big page with all the names and phone numbers of the 150 or so people that work at the company (which means using the People Search webpart with a query hard-coded to return everyone won't work). A few quick searches haven't turned up anything, but this seems like a really common request. Can anyone help me out? I'm not opposed to buying a reasonably-priced webpart to solve this or writing some custom code, but both seem like they shouldn't be required for such a simple request.

• Tomcat gzip while chunked issue

  I'm expiriencing some problem with one of my data source services. As it says in HTTP response headers it's running on Apache-Coyote/1.1. Server gives responses with Transfer-Encoding: chunked, here sample response: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: Apache-Coyote/1.1 Content-Type: text/xml;charset=utf-8 Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Encoding: gzip Date: Tue, 30 Mar 2010 06:13:52 GMT And problem is when I'm requesting server to send gzipped request it often sends not full response. I recieve response, see that last chunk recieved, but then after ungzipping I see that response is partial. I never seen such behavior with gzip turned off in request headers. So my question is: is it common tomcat issue? maybe one of it's mod which is doing compression? Or maybe it maybe some kind of proxy issue? I can't tell about versions of tomcat or what gzip mod they use, but feel free to ask, i'll try ask my service provider. Thanks.

• Setting the content-type of requests performed by jQuery jqGrid

  I am using the latest version of jqGrid: 3.6.4 This seems like a simple problem (or at least it did before I spent a few hours on it): When the grid sends a request to the server (to a controller action), its content-type is always: application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8 and I would like it to be: application/json; charset=utf-8 but I can find no way of setting the content-type (there is no contentType option as you would find on a $.ajax call for example). So just to clarify, I am not asking how to set the content-type on a jQuery server request, but specifically using jqGrid, which does not provide an obvious option for doing this. Thanks, Nigel.

• ruby rails loop causes server freeze

  Hi all: I am working on a Ruby on Rails project on Windows. I have Ruby 1.86 and Rails 2.35 installed. Everything is fine until I tried to implement a comet process. I have the following code written to respond to a long poll javascript request. But everytime this function is called, it will hang the whole rails server, no second request can get in, until the timeout. (I know there is juggernaut, but I like to implement one myself first :) Is this due to my server setup?   Hi everyone, i wrote some app and trying with a help of QNetworkAccessManager send some data to server using POST request, however nothing happen at all. I tried to use QHttp and the same result. I have checked it with WireShark - none requests in the list from my program. I tried to send GET request and the same - none requests. I created project with Network libs, got example from help: manager = new QNetworkAccessManager(this); connect(manager, SIGNAL(finished(QNetworkReply*)), this, SLOT(requesReply(QNetworkReply*))); QNetworkRequest req; req.setUrl(QUrl("http://server.net/upload")); manager->get(req); Please help me to find what i'm missing.   I'm currently working on building a RESTful web api with ruby on rails. I haven't bothered putting a proper authentication scheme into the API yet as I'm ensuring that tests and the basic behavior of the API is working all locally first. Upon testing non-HTTP GET type requests such as HTTP POST/DELETE/PUT, stuff chokes because protect_from_forgery is on by default. How does this work when I'm working in practice since essentially the idea is in a RESTful API that there is no state. The client does not have a session or a cookie associated with the server. Each request is an atomic, self-executed request. The user will supply some credentials to ensure they are who they say they are, but other than that, does protect_from_forgery make sense at this point? Should it remain enabled?

• JSON Feed Appears to be XHR when it should be JS

  I don't get why it'd doing this with the 2nd feed (appearing as a XHR call rather than just JS [looking at it in Firefox/Firebug]). The 2nd feed has the exact same MIME type as Flickr's JSON feed, yet the PortlandOregon.gov one shows as XHR and i get a NULL callback when using $.getJSON and if i use $.ajax with a 'json' or 'jsonp' type i get nothing at all. If i do the Flickr one i get the normal "[object Object]" callback. Whats going on? Please help! This has been such a headache for about a week. And i have authorization to change the feed, but i have to request the change, so if anyone knows for absolute sure let me know that!
