  • Card emulation via software NFC

    After reading a lot of questions, i decided to post this one. I read that stock version of android does not support API's for card emulation. Also, we cannot write custom applications to secure element embedded in nfc controllers due to keys managed by google/samsung. I need to emulate a card (mifare or desfire etc). The option i can see is doing it via software. I have a ACR122U reader and i've tested that NFC P2P mode works fine with the Nexus-S that i have. 1) I came across a site that said that nexus s's NFC controller (pn532) can emulate a mifare 4k card. If this is true, can i write/read apdu commands to this emulated card? (Probably if i use a modded rom like cyanogenmod) 2) Can i write a android application that reads apdu commands sent from the reader and generate appropriate responses (if not fully, then upto some extent only). To do so, i searched that we need to patch nexus s with cynagenmod. Has someone tried emulating card via this method? I see that this is possible since we have products from access control companies offering mobile applications via which one can open doors e.g. http://www.assaabloy.com/en/com/Products/seos-mobile-access/

  • iPhone Core Data does not refresh table

    Hi all, I'm trying to write an application with Core Data, and I have been able to successfully read and write to the core data database. However, if I write to the database in one view controller, my other view controllers will not see the change until the app is closed then reopened again. This is really frustrating. I'm not entirely sure how to get the refresh - (void)refreshObject:(NSManagedObject *)object mergeChanges:(BOOL)flag method to work. How do I get a reference to my managed object? Anyways, here's the code I'm using to read the data back. This is in the viewDidLoad method.   • Android 3.1+ USB as virtual COM port

    I have a third party usb device, that when plugged into a Windows machine, is recognized as a serial device and assigned to the COM 4 port. I can communicate with the device just like I would with a device connected via a serial port. For instance, I can write "abc" serially to the device via the USB connection. I have been searching for a way to do a similar thing in Android. If I try the Usb Host method, and use a UsbManager to open the UsbDevice, I can get one interface, with 2 endpoints. I have tried sending control messages using the method in UsbDeviceConnection, but the method returns -1 for everything (though I don't know what I should use for the parameters of that method). Is there a way to get an OutputStream that I can write to that will send bytes to the USB device? Right now I am looking at recompiling the kernel to include a virtual COM port driver and write some native code to be able to do this. Thanks! Edit: I am using the FTDI serial to USB converter circuit. Is this compatible with Android?

    I'm having some difficulties in prolog, I'm trying to write a predicate that will return all paths between two cities, although at the moment it returns the first path it finds on an infinite loop. Not sure where I'm going wrong but I've been trying to figure this out all day and I'm getting nowhere.   • Software Requirement Specifications for Web Applications

    Hi guys, I'm looking for some guidance/books to read when it comes to creating a software requirement specification for a web application. For inspiration I have read some spec documents for desktop based applications. The documents I have read capture a systems functional requirements in use cases which tend to be rather data oriented with use cases centered around the various CRUD operations the application is intended to perform. I like this structure however I'm finding it rather difficult to marry it to what my web application needs to do, mostly reading data as opposed to manipulating it. I've had a go at writing some use cases however they all tend to boil down to "Search for item", "Change view of search results" or "User selects facet to refine search results". This doesn't sound quite right to me and makes me wonder if I'm going about this the right way. Are there planning differences between web based and desktop based applications?

  • Socket : can an asynchronous Receive returns without reading all the bytes I asked for?

    Hi; I was reading an article on Vadym Stetsiak's blog about how to transfer variable length messages with async sockets (url: http://vadmyst.blogspot.com/2008/03/part-2-how-to-transfer-fixed-sized-data.html). He says : What to expect when multiple messages arrive at the server? While dealing with multiple messages one has to remember that receive operation can return arbitrary number of bytes being read from the net. Typically that size is from 0 to specified buffer length in the Receive or BeginReceive methods. So, even if I tell BeginReceive to read 100 bytes, it may read less than that and returns??? I am developing a network-enabled software (TCP/IP), and I always receive the same exact number of bytes I asked for. I don't even understand the logic : why would Receive completes asynchronously if it didn't get every byte I asked for ... just keep waiting. Maybe it has something to do with IP vs TCP?   • DSL to generate test data

    There're several ways to generate data for tests (not only unit tests), for example, Object Mother, builders, etc. Another useful approach is to write test data as plain text: product: Main; prices: 145, 255; Expire: 10-Apr-2011; qty: 2; includes: Sub product: Sub; prices: 145, 255; Expire: 10-Apr-2011; qty: 2 and then parse it into C# objects. This is easy to use in unit tests (because deep inner collections can be written in single line), this is even more convenient to use in FitNesse-like system (because this DSL naturally fits into wiki), and so on. So I use this and write parser, but it's tedious to write each time. I'm not a big expert in DSL/language parsers, but I think they can help here. What would be the right one to use? I only heard about: DSL (I mean, any DSL) Boo (that I think can do DSL) ANTLR but I don't even know which one to pick and where to start. So the question: is it reasonable to use some kind of DSL to generate test data? What would you suggest to do so? Are there any existing cases?

  • Are Fortran control characters (carriage control) still implemented in compilers?

    In the book Fortran 95/2003 for Scientists and Engineers, there is much talk given to the importance of recognizing that the first column in a format statement is reserved for control characters. I've also seen control characters referred to as carriage control on the internet. To avoid confusion, by control characters, I refer to the characters "1, a blank (i.e. \s), 0, and +" as having an effect on the vertical spacing of output when placed in the first column (character) of a FORMAT statement. Also, see this text-only web page written entirely in fixed-width typeface : Fortran carriage-control (because nothing screams accuracy and antiquity better than prose in monospaced font). I found this page and others like it to be not quite clear. According to Fortran 95/2003 for Scientists and Engineers, failure to recall that the first column is reserved for carriage control can lead to horrible unintended output. Paraphrasing Dave Barry, type the wrong character, and nuclear missiles get fired at Norway. However, when I attempt to adhere to this stern warning, I find that gfortran has no idea what I'm talking about. Allow me to illustrate my point with some example code. It appears that gfortran is completely ignoring the control character column. My question, then, is this: Are control characters still implemented in standards compliant compilers or is gfortran simply not standards compliant?   • JavaFX Threading issue - GUI freezing while method call ran.

    Hi everyone, I hoped someone might be able to help as I'm a little stumped. I have a javafx class which runs a user interface, which includes a button to read some text out loud. When you press it, it invokes a Java object which uses the FreeTTS java speech synth to read out loud a String, which all works fine. The problem is, when the speech is being read out, the program stops completely until its completed. I'm not an expert on threaded applications, but I understand that usually if I extend the Thread class, and provided my implementation of the speech synth code inside an overridden run method, when I call start on the class it "should" create a new Thread, and run this code there, allowing the main thread which has the JavaFX GUI on to continue as normal. Any idea why this isn't the case? Thanks a lot in advance!

    I've been looking around for a while now and the best guide I've seen so far is Dr Nic's DIY widgets how to (here). I haven't been able to make something like this work: Assuming this is my widget code: <script src="http://mysite/nomnoms.js"> </script> And my nomnoms controller looks like (assume that the list partial exists and simply lists down a link to the show page of each nomnom in the @nomnoms variable): class NomnomsController < ApplicationController def index @nomnoms = Nomnom.find(:all) @content = render_to_string(:partial => 'list') end end And in the index.js of my nomnoms_controller I have: page << "document.write('<div>'" page << "document.write('#{@content.to_json}')" page << "</div>" The above setup doesn't render anything :(. But when I change the second line of index.js to: page << "document.write('nomnoms should be here') ...the widget renders the text. Any help or even a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to read a log file as it's being written by another process, but when I open the file to read it, it locks the file and the other process can't write to it anymore.     I've got a few questions about best practices in Python. Not too long ago I would do something like this with my code: ... junk_block = "".join(open("foo.txt","rb").read().split()) ... I don't do this anymore because I can see that it makes code harder to read, but would the code run slower if I split the statements up like so: f_obj = open("foo.txt", "rb") f_data = f_obj.read() f_data_list = f_data.split() junk_block = "".join(f_data_list) I also noticed that there's nothing keeping you from doing an 'import' within a function block, is there any reason why I should do that?

    In Delphi 2007 and later, the global variable UseLatestCommonDialogs causes TOpenDialog to use the new Vista-style dialog on Windows Vista and 7. That's cool. Unfortunately, the Vista-style dialog does not seem to support the ofHideReadOnly option of TOpenDialog. The read-only checkbox never appears regardless whether this option is set to True or False. How can I make TOpenDialog show a read-only checkbox on the Vista-style dialog? TOpenTextFileDialog adds a combo box to the dialog regardless of whether it's Vista-style or not. It should be possible to add a read-only checkbox in the same way, but I can't figure out how to do it, even when looking at the source for TOpenTextFileDialog.

Basically, I've got two issues: how to make sure the 1x1 image is not cacheable (how to set the header)? how to make sure the query for these 1x1 image will appear in the logs? I'm looking for exact piece of code because I know how to write a .jsp/servlet and I know how to serve an 1x1 image :) My question is really about the exact .jsp/servlet that I should write and how/what needs to be done so that Tomcat logs the request. For example I plan to use the following mapping: <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>WebBugServlet</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/webbug*</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> and then use an img tag referencing a "webbug.png" (or .gif), so how do I write the .jsp/servlet? What/where should I look for in the logs?
