  • OpenLDAP with StartTLS broken on Debian Lenny

    - by mr.zog
    I'm trying to get OpenLDAP on Lenny to work with StartTLS. I have a Fedora 13 machine which I'm using as a client for testing. So far the Fedora client is ignoring the 'host' directive in /etc/ldap.conf when I try to connect using ldapsearch. The client wants to connect to 127.0.0.1:389 even if I specify -H ldaps://server.name on when using ldapsearch. /etc/ldap.conf on the client machine is in mode 444. But even when I try connecting locally from an ssh session, I see errors like this: ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Can't contact LDAP server (-1) Someone hit me with a cluebat, plz. Update: you must use ~/.ldaprc for settings such as 'host'. Also, I just used nmap against the ldap server and it showed 636 and 389 in an open state. Here's what prints to screen when I try to connect with, ldapsearch -ZZ –x '(objectclass=*)'+ -d -1 ldap_create ldap_extended_operation_s ldap_extended_operation ldap_send_initial_request ldap_new_connection 1 1 0 ldap_int_open_connection ldap_connect_to_host: TCP 192.168.10.41:636 ldap_new_socket: 3 ldap_prepare_socket: 3 ldap_connect_to_host: Trying 192.168.10.41:636 ldap_pvt_connect: fd: 3 tm: -1 async: 0 ldap_open_defconn: successful ldap_send_server_request ber_scanf fmt ({it) ber: ber_dump: buf=0x9bdbdb8 ptr=0x9bdbdb8 end=0x9bdbdd7 len=31 0000: 30 1d 02 01 01 77 18 80 16 31 2e 33 2e 36 2e 31 0....w...1.3.6.1 0010: 2e 34 2e 31 2e 31 34 36 36 2e 32 30 30 33 37 .4.1.1466.20037 ber_scanf fmt ({) ber: ber_dump: buf=0x9bdbdb8 ptr=0x9bdbdbd end=0x9bdbdd7 len=26 0000: 77 18 80 16 31 2e 33 2e 36 2e 31 2e 34 2e 31 2e w...1.3.6.1.4.1. 0010: 31 34 36 36 2e 32 30 30 33 37 1466.20037 ber_flush2: 31 bytes to sd 3 0000: 30 1d 02 01 01 77 18 80 16 31 2e 33 2e 36 2e 31 0....w...1.3.6.1 0010: 2e 34 2e 31 2e 31 34 36 36 2e 32 30 30 33 37 .4.1.1466.20037 ldap_write: want=31, written=31 0000: 30 1d 02 01 01 77 18 80 16 31 2e 33 2e 36 2e 31 0....w...1.3.6.1 0010: 2e 34 2e 31 2e 31 34 36 36 2e 32 30 30 33 37 .4.1.1466.20037 ldap_result ld 0x9bd3050 msgid 1 wait4msg ld 0x9bd3050 msgid 1 (infinite timeout) wait4msg continue ld 0x9bd3050 msgid 1 all 1 ** ld 0x9bd3050 Connections: * host: 192.168.10.41 port: 636 (default) refcnt: 2 status: Connected last used: Sun Jun 6 12:54:05 2010 ** ld 0x9bd3050 Outstanding Requests: * msgid 1, origid 1, status InProgress outstanding referrals 0, parent count 0 ld 0x9bd3050 request count 1 (abandoned 0) ** ld 0x9bd3050 Response Queue: Empty ld 0x9bd3050 response count 0 ldap_chkResponseList ld 0x9bd3050 msgid 1 all 1 ldap_chkResponseList returns ld 0x9bd3050 NULL ldap_int_select read1msg: ld 0x9bd3050 msgid 1 all 1 ber_get_next ldap_read: want=8, got=0 ber_get_next failed. ldap_err2string ldap_start_tls: Can't contact LDAP server (-1)

  • Connection from Apache to Tomcat via mod_jk not working

I would like to connect apache to tomcat via mod_jk (same machine). • ssh port forwarding freezes after 10 simultaneous connections

    - by Marko Kevac
Hello. I am using port forwarding to utilize proxy server which is on remote machine. Remote machine hostname is remotemachine. Proxy is listening on 8118 port. I am translating this port to local port 5223. ssh -vvv -N remotemachine -L 5223:localhost:8118 Everything is fine if I don't use more than 10 simultaneous connections, when ssh just freezes. It no longer send data trough port forwarding. I.e. ab -c 10 -t 5 -X 'localhost:5223' 'http://www.google.ru/' works, but ab -c 20 -t 5 -X 'localhost:5223' 'http://www.google.ru/' causes ssh to freeze MaxSessions 30 parameter in /etc/ssh/sshd_config didn't helped at all. What can I do to remove this 10 connection limit? Nothing interesting in -vvv output =(

  • Command-line way to send keystrokes to a window open on a different X-session

    - by Sanjay Manohar
I have a Ubuntu desktop open and logged on, on my main machine. I am then also logging in to this machine from a remote computer, using X2go which creates a new X-session. I have a libreoffice file open on the original session. I want to save this file and close it - but from the remote machine! (Both sessions have same user logged in; I can sudo if needed) I have tried using xdotool search but this fails to find the window. Is there a way to do what I want from this second session? I can see the process with ps -A I can even see the open file with lsof! How can I do a "save-and-close" on it?

  • Windows screen shots via command-line SSH session

    - by Geoff Fritz
I've browsed the handful of "screen capture" queries here, but I was unable to find anything which addressed my specific need. I'm looking for a command-line tool that I can run via remote SSH connection (by way of the cygwin sshd daemon). There are several to choose from, but the few I've tried (ImageMagick, nircmd, and MiniCap) all result in a blank screen. I assume that this is due to the remotely logged in user not having a proper graphical console session running. The goal here is automate screen capture and retrieval of the main system console (what one would see if they were looking at the physical monitor) through the use of ssh script from a Unix host: ssh user@windowshost "screencap --output /tmp/console.jpg" scp user@windowshost:/tmp/console.jpg /some/destdir Note that these must be done on demand, so polling a remote directory that has snapshots dumped periodically will not work. Bonus points for programs that are open source and have a portable install (so I don't need to RDP/VNC into the machine to run a graphical installer).

  • Can SATA be used to connect computers?

    - by André
Can SATA be used to connect two computers together, just like a crossover Ethernet cable would do ? I know SATA has no "networking" features and even though a controller may have multiple ports, the drives don't "see" each other, and that in SATA one device acts as the host (the computer) and the other device is some kind of "client" (the storage drive). But still, did anyone attempt to make a kernel module that would make one computer appear as a "client" (so that the host's SATA controller detects it as a standard hard drive) and then set up like a pseudo-Ethernet link or a very high speed serial link (and then run pppd on it and do networking) ? Note : I know this is an unprofessional and totally stupid idea, I'm just asking out of curiosity.

  • How to prevent mod_proxy from rewriting redirects into absolute URLs?

    - by Yang
I have: nginx (port 80) reverse-proxying to apache2 (port 88) reverse-proxying to a web app (port 5001). However, when the web app responds with a redirect like Location: /foo, apache2 rewrites this into Location: http://host.com:88/sub/foo, even though port 88 is publicly inaccessible. I'd like it to just redirect to the relative URL Location: /sub/foo. Any ideas? My apache config (using mod_proxy_http, mod_proxy_html, mod_substitute): <Location /notes/> Allow from all ProxyPass http://127.0.0.1:5001/ SetOutputFilter proxy-html ProxyPassReverse / ProxyHTMLURLMap / /notes/ RequestHeader unset Accept-Encoding AddOutputFilterByType SUBSTITUTE application/atom+xml Substitute "s|127.0.0.1:5001|host.com/notes|" </Location>

  • Does Ubuntu 12.04.1 come with everything I need for using virtual servers and are the tools efficient?

    - by orokusaki
I noticed that Ubuntu 12.04.1 comes with Xen, OpenStack, KVM and other virtualization-related tools. I have used VMWare in the past. If I was to use Xen for visualization, would I see considerable performance lost, since Xen is run on the host OS? Is it even run on the host OS, or is it like VMWare where it's installed below any Linux OS on the machine (embedded, I guess is the word)? Do you have any recommendations on what sort of set up to use with these built-in tools? I have 2 physical servers, side-by-side. Each will need a VM used for Postgres and a VM used as an app server. One will be a failover for the other.

  • proxy.pac file performance optimization

    - by Tuinslak
I reroute certain websites through a proxy with a proxy.pac file. It basically looks like this: if (shExpMatch(host, "www.youtube.com")) { return "PROXY proxy.domain.tld:8080; DIRECT" } if (shExpMatch(host, "youtube.com")) { return "PROXY proxy.domain.tld:8080; DIRECT" } At the moment about 125 sites are rerouted using this method. However, I plan on adding quite a few more domains to it, and I'm guessing it will eventually be a list of 500-1000 domains. It's important to not reroute all traffic through the proxy. What's the best way to keep this file optimized, performance-wise ? Thanks

  • How to use IIS as a trusted proxy for ActiveDirectory SSO?

    - by brofield
I'm trying to add Active Directory single-sign-on support to an existing SOAP server. The server can be configured to accept a trusted reverse-proxy and use the X-Remote-User HTTP header for the authenticated user. I want to configure IIS to be the trusted proxy for this service, so that it handles all of the Active Directory authentication for the SOAP server. Basically IIS would have to accept HTTP connections on port X and URL Y, do all the authentication, and then proxy the connection to a different server (most likely the same X and Y). Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of IIS or AD (so I am trying my best to learn enough to build this solution) so please be gentle. I would assume that this is not an uncommon scenario, so is there some easy way to do this? Is this sort of functionality built into IIS or do I need to build some sort of IIS proxy program myself? Is there a better option for getting the authentication done and the X-Remote-User HTTP header set than requiring IIS?

  • How to display programs, started by TSWA Remoteapp, inside a browser instead of directly on the desk

    - by richardboon
For those not familiar with Terminal Services Web Access and Resulting Internet Communication in Windows Server 2008, here’s a brief overview: technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754502(WS.10).aspx The problem (I am trying to solve), can be seen in the picture of step 16, where the application is display directly right on the desktop [see link below]: http://blogs.technet.com/askcore/archive/2008/07/22/publishing-the-hyper-v-management-interface-using-terminal-services.aspx I am in the process of setting up Terminal Service Web Access RemoteApp for our company. Users only want remoteapp and needs to see the remote program running within/contain-inside the browser. They don’t want to see or access the whole desktop [as the case with remote desktop, which can be displayed inside a browser].

  • How to copy directories using debugfs?

    - by STM
The debugfs manpage gives the impression that the command 'rdump . .' will recursively copy all files found on the specified filesystem from the debugfs cwd to the native filesystem's cwd. Instead I seem to receive a syntax error, and no copy is initiated? These are the commands I run: cd /path/to/transfer/destination debugfs /dev/sda1 -R rdump . . My task is to copy the entire contents of a clean yet unmountable USB storage device to its host machine's HD. The host machine does not support the inode size used by the USB device's filesystem (256) and its software is not upgradeable, so my intention was to use debugfs to transfer the files. If anyone has any other suggestions for this task I'd be grateful.

  • Netinstalling CentOS if the gateway is in a different subnet

    - by James Lawrie
I have a KVM host (A) running a virtual machine (B). They each have their own external IP address and the networking is setup using bridging between eth0 and br0 on A. B uses eth0, with A being the gateway. The problem is that the two external IP addresses are on different subnets (different /8s in fact) so by default, B claims it cannot reach A (Network Unreachable). I can resolve this by adding a static route on B: echo "any host gateway_ip dev eth0" > /etc/sysconfig/static-routes Modifying /etc/init.d/networking to reload the gateway after applying static routes (I only added the final line before fi): if [ -f /etc/sysconfig/static-routes ]; then grep "^any" /etc/sysconfig/static-routes | while read ignore args ; do /sbin/route add -$args done route add default gw "${GATEWAY}" fi If I then restart networking, it comes online. How can I do this (or work around it some other way) prior to the system being installed, ideally inside an Anaconda kickstart file?

  • Starting x11vnc remotely when X server is already running

    - by Madiyaan Damha
I have a ubuntu linux machine that I have already logged into and X server is running (it is pass the login manager like gdm). I can access this machine through ssh. My goal is to start x11vnc on this machine and attach it to the X server that is already running. When I ssh into the machine and start x11vnc, it says: X11 was unable to open the X DISPLAY ":0", it cannot continue. How can I start x11vnc on the remote machine if I don't have physical access to it and Xserver has already started. The reason I want to do this is because the remote machine has several windows open that I want to work on. Thanks,

  • Apache can't connect to LDAP server

    - by jldugger
I'm tying SVN to LDAPS by way of Apache. I've run openssl s_client --host $host --port 636 and received an SSL certificate, so it doesn't appear to be a firewall problem. I get the following warning: [Fri Apr 02 07:38:15 2010] [warn] [client <ip withheld>] [590] auth_ldap authenticate: user jldugger authentication failed; URI /internal-svn [LDAP: ldap_simple_bind_s() failed][Can't contact LDAP server] "Can't contact LDAP server" is somewhere between vague and wrong. I'm at a loss on how to continue debugging this. Ideas?

  • X11Forwarding on MacOSX (Leopard/Snow Leopard)

    - by Shyam
Hi, I have some remote boxes, which are a bunch of Mac Mini's. I access them now through SSH, and it fits my needs to do the maintenance. In the past, I used X11Forwarding with Linux boxes, when I was still using Debian myself, and I was able to run a specific application as if it was natively present (Firefox). I haven't succeeded to do this yet, but I assume because of the BSD underneath the fancy Apple GUI should be able to do such a task similar. I am aware of the remote administration, but I rather keep access limited to SSH on these boxes for inbound connections. Background information about the why's, tips, advice and comments are all helpful! Thanks!

  • Virtual machine on ubuntu

    - by MITHIYA MOIZ
I have configured virtual machine on ubuntu with the help of below article, https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/serverguide/C/libvirt.html I managed to finish all the part except the major portion getting virtual host to talk to real network, Which I guess should be done only via bridge interface. Via virtual machine manager I try to choose any interface it gives me interface not bridged When I try to bridge the interceface eth0 as below auto br0 iface br0 inet static address 192.168.0.223 network 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 gateway 192.168.0.1 bridge_ports eth0 bridge_fd 9 bridge_hello 2 bridge_maxage 12 bridge_stp off I cannot communicate with this interface to network, host server looses all the communication to network. But when I remote bridge interface from /etc/network/interfaces And configure eth0 as below it works fine The primary network interface auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.0.223 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.0.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 dns-nameservers 62.215.6.51 gateway 192.168.0.1 how can i setup bridge interface correctly and how would my /etc/netwrok/interfaces file would look a like.

  • How can I mitigate DNS Server outages?

    - by Eric Belair
Let's say I have a root domain of "mysite.com". That domain and its sub-domains have DNS served by an external service - let's call them Setwork Nolutions. If this external company is hit with a DDoS attack, my interally-hosted websites under this domain are no longer accessible at "mysite.com" or "*.mysite.com", even though the website(s) is/are fully up and operational. How can I mitigate such a problem so as to keep end users happy? The only solution others at my company have come up with is to create a second domain - i.e. "mysite2.com", and host its DNS at another company, and then communicate to all end users that this is the website they should use. I think this is ridiculous, and just leads to a bunch of other problems. I'd like to find a solution where we can point to the same website with the same URL without the original DNS host being operational. Any thoughts?

  • AS2 Server Software Costs

    - by CandyCo
We're currently using Cleo LexiCom as our server software for receiving EDI transmissions via the AS2 protocol. We have 7 trading partners per year, and this runs us about $800/year for support from Cleo. We need to expand from 7 trading partners to 10 or so, and Cleo charges roughly $600 per new host, plus an expanded yearly support fee. My question(s) are: Does anyone know of a cheaper developer of AS2 server software, and perhaps one that doesn't charge per new host? Does anyone have any clue why we are being charged an upfront fee for new hosts, and if this is a standard practice for AS2 software providers? It seems really odd that we are required to pay upfront costs for this. I could completely understand an increase in the yearly support, however.

  • setting up rhel 5.x RPM build server for mortal users

    - by Chen Levy
My task is to setup a RHEL 5.x build host, that can build RPMs for mortal users. On RHEL 6.x with rpm version 4.8, I have in /usr/lib/macros: # Path to top of build area. %_topdir %{getenv:HOME}/rpmbuild On RHEL 5.x with rpm version 4.4, the %{getevn:HOME} is not available. I know that I can use /home/someuser/.rpmmacros: %_topdir /home/someuser/rpmbuild and this will work for that user, however I don't want to do this for every user separately. Moreover, since .rpmmacro will not expand ${HOME} or ~ I suspect it is unsafe to use those. This in turn make /etc/skel unstable for this task (or so I suspect). So in short, my question is: How to setup RHEL 5.x host that allow all users to build RPM packages in their home directory?

  • VPN Error 868 when connecting even if using IP address

    - by Fr33dan
I am trying to connect to a public VPN from VPNGate. However when I attempt to connect to a VPN from the list using MS-SSTP protocol I get the following error: Error 868: The remote connection was not made because the name of the remote access server did not resolve. If I open a command prompt and ping the address in question it resolves to the IP shown on the listing. If I configure the VPN using that IP address directly I still receive the error even though the name no longer needs to resolve. This was working yesterday but it seems the VPN I was using has been removed from the list. What is happening and how can I fix it?

  • IE session (-nomerge) management application?

    - by skrco
I'm in need of an application that can manage multiple Internet Explorer instances (to be precise nomerge sessions) like you can in Remote Desktop Manager with RDPs. This app should host them in single window and arrange IE instances e.g. in tabs or lists. OK, in Remote Desktop Manager you can create Web session, but in embedded mode you cannot set the nomerge option - all windows and tabs share the same session. I've been searching the web, but with no results. So I put this question whether anyone know of such application or any workaround. Or I have to write my own app?

  • MySQL slave server not removing old relay binlogs

    - by MKzero
I have a MySQL server with slave replication on another host. Today I stumbled across the high disk usage of the slave host and invastigated what takes up all the space. As it turns out this space is occupied by the slaves relay logs. I tried to turn the expire_logs_days variable down and restarted the MySQL daemon but the reported disk space stays the same. I could't really find anything exept that FLUSH LOGS should clear old logs. I tried that with no result. Is there any way I can reduce the disk space that the relay logs take?
