  • Cross Browser Testing on Virtual Machines - Issues?

    - by codemate2112
I am part of an organization in which there is contention amongst some very competent folks as to whether or not testing cross-browser behavior for JavaScript applications on virtual machines (for IE6/7/8, FF2/3, Chrome on XP/Vista/7) is reliable. This is using VMWare server on a Linux box host. While the discrepancies seen are few, there are cases in which it has proven difficult to tell if it is a product of virtualization or just different machine configurations. My question to the community is, what is people experience with this? Is there any credence to the claim that VM pose inconsistencies, or are they generally spot-on reliable? Can we trust them?

  • Chrome Extension: How to display tab objects?

    - by Jalleluhah
I am in the process of designing an extension for Google Chrome that helps to organize tabs (I know, there are many that already exist; that doesn't matter). I wish to open a popup window that will display tabs as objects (i.e., in the same way that it is displayed in the tab bar at the top of the browser). One way of doing this would be to pull various details (ID, Title, URL, etc.) from each tab, create a class and make instantiations of it upon the opening of each tab using these data, but this seems rather convoluted considering that what I want is sitting right there in the tab bar. Is there any simpler way to achieve this? In addition, I have seen several apps that utilize page previews. Is there something in the API that allows direct access to these?

  • Is there an application I can show a client the speed of their site via differring internet connecti

    - by Slimpickens
I have a new client with an old website using massive amounts of tables and inline styles. Some page weigh over 3MB due to huge backgrounds and other large images. I suggested they at least compress the files to speed up the site but they're convinced it's fast. Since they have 13Mbit connection at the office everything seems fast. I'm looking for a tweak, program or web app capable of loading pages at varying speeds so they understand how it might load for slower DSL or (gasp) dialup users. Thanks for any help!

  • Sticky footer with CSS Layout Template Module?

    - by boris callens
I'm currently looking into the JQuery library for CSS Layout Template module Is it possible to define the height of a placeholder with *? Meaning it will push content down if it has to, or fill up any remaining space if the complete content is less then the view port. This would be really nice to make the whole sticky footer thing much easier and robust.

  • How do you ensure a <td> is exactly 200px tall?

    - by George Edison
I have a table with an image inside: <table style="border: 3px solid rgb(0, 0, 0); width: 800px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-collapse: collapse;"> <tbody> <tr> <td style="text-align: center; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;"><img style="width: 800px; height: 200px; border: 0px;" alt="Logo" src="logo.png"> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> No matter what I do, there is still a little sliver of white at the bottom of the image. A quick check with Chrome's Inspector reveals that the td has a height of 204px! How can I force the td to be the same height as the image? As you can see above, I've tried all sorts of things...

  • How to change text color for link in tr element with CSS

    - by mathee
I'd like to change the background and text color when the mouse hovers over a row in a table: tr { background-color:#FFF; color:#000; } tr:hover { background-color:#000; color:#FFF; } This works if there aren't any links in the tr elements, but when there are, the link color remains black (because of a { color: #000; }?). How do I specify in the CSS that links in the tr element should change color when the mouse hovers over the tr?

  • Javascript: Select option based on its contents

Basically this, but in pure javascript: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2346257/how-to-get-value-of-select-tag-based-on-content-of-select-tag-using-nokogiri So I have a select list with a lot of countries/states, and I want to be able to select one based on what is between the tags. Argentina (I know i could use the value, but each one is a random mesh of numbers, so i would have to collect each individual one - not economical...)

  • How can web form content be preserved for the back button

    - by Peter Howe
When a web form is submitted and takes the user to another page, it is quite often the case that the user will click the Back button in order to submit the form again (the form is an advanced search in my case.) How can I reliably preserve the form options selected by the user when they click Back (so they don't have to start from scratch with filling the form in again if they are only changing one of many form elements?) Do I have to go down the route of storing the form options in session data (cookies or server-side) or is there a way to get the browser to handle this for me? (Environment is PHP/JavaScript - and the site must work on IE6+ and Firefox2+)

  • Link all'interno di un campo testo

    - by aleds
Grazie Alessandro DS http://alex-on-rails.blogspot.com/

  • MediaFileUpload of HTML in UTF-8 encoding using Python and Google-Drive-SDK

    - by Victoria
Looking for example using MediaFileUpload has a reference to the basic documentation for creating/uploading a file to Google Drive. However, while I have code that creates files, converting from HTML to Google Doc format. It works perfectly when they contain only ASCII characters, but when I add a non-ASCII character, it fails, with the following traceback: Traceback (most recent call last): File "d:\my\py\ckwort.py", line 949, in <module> rids, worker_documents = analyze( meta, gd ) File "d:\my\py\ckwort.py", line 812, in analyze gd.mkdir( **iy ) File "d:\my\py\ckwort.py", line 205, in mkdir self.create( **( kw['subop'])) File "d:\my\py\ckwort.py", line 282, in create media_body=kw['media_body'], File "D:\my\py\gdrive2\oauth2client\util.py", line 120, in positional_wrapper return wrapped(*args, **kwargs) File "D:\my\py\gdrive2\apiclient\http.py", line 676, in execute headers=self.headers) File "D:\my\py\gdrive2\oauth2client\util.py", line 120, in positional_wrapper return wrapped(*args, **kwargs) File "D:\my\py\gdrive2\oauth2client\client.py", line 420, in new_request redirections, connection_type) File "D:\my\py\gdrive2\httplib2\__init__.py", line 1597, in request (response, content) = self._request(conn, authority, uri, request_uri, method, body, headers, redirections, cachekey) File "D:\my\py\gdrive2\httplib2\__init__.py", line 1345, in _request (response, content) = self._conn_request(conn, request_uri, method, body, headers) File "D:\my\py\gdrive2\httplib2\__init__.py", line 1282, in _conn_request conn.request(method, request_uri, body, headers) File "C:\Python27\lib\httplib.py", line 958, in request self._send_request(method, url, body, headers) File "C:\Python27\lib\httplib.py", line 992, in _send_request self.endheaders(body) File "C:\Python27\lib\httplib.py", line 954, in endheaders self._send_output(message_body) File "C:\Python27\lib\httplib.py", line 812, in _send_output msg += message_body UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 370: ordinal not in range(128) I don't find any parameter to use to specify what file encoding should be used by MediaFileUpload (My files are using UTF-8). • PHP Fomatting Regex - BBCode

    - by Wayne
To be honest, I suck at regex so much, I would use RegexBuddy, but I'm working on my Mac and sometimes it doesn't help much (for me). Well, for what I need to do is a function in php function replaceTags($n) { $n = str_replace("[[", "<b>", $n); $n = str_replace("]]", "</b>", $n); } Although this is a bad example in case someone didn't close the tag by using ]] or [[, anyway, could you help with regex of: [[ ]] = Bold format ** ** = Italic format (( )) = h2 heading Those are all I need, thanks :) P.S - Is there any software like RegexBuddy available for Mac (Snow Leopard)?

  • How to debug CSS/Javascript hover issues

    - by Jason Creighton
I often find myself wanting to debug CSS layout issues that involve DOM changes caused by Javascript in reaction to a hover event or different CSS rules applying due to the :hover selector. Normally, I'd use Firebug to inspect the element that's giving me trouble and see what its CSS properties were, and where those properties come from. However, when hovering is involved, it becomes impossible, because as soon as you move your mouse down to the Firebug panel, the elements you're interested in are no longer hovered, the CSS rules that apply are different, and (in the case of JS hovers) the DOM is changed. Is there any way I can "freeze" the state of the DOM and application of :hover in order to inspect the DOM as it was during a hover event? Any other ideas on how to debug this sort of issue are welcome, of course.
