• Big smart ViewModels, dumb Views, and any model, the best MVVM approach?

  The following code is a refactoring of my previous MVVM approach (Fat Models, skinny ViewModels and dumb Views, the best MVVM approach?) in which I moved the logic and INotifyPropertyChanged implementation from the model back up into the ViewModel. This makes more sense, since as was pointed out, you often you have to use models that you either can't change or don't want to change and so your MVVM approach should be able to work with any model class as it happens to exist. This example still allows you to view the live data from your model in design mode in Visual Studio and Expression Blend which I think is significant since you could have a mock data store that the designer connects to which has e.g. the smallest and largest strings that the UI can possibly encounter so that he can adjust the design based on those extremes. Questions: I'm a bit surprised that I even have to "put a timer" in my ViewModel since it seems like that is a function of INotifyPropertyChanged, it seems redundant, but it was the only way I could get the XAML UI to constantly (once per second) reflect the state of my model. So it would be interesting to hear anyone who may have taken this approach if you encountered any disadvantages down the road, e.g. with threading or performance. The following code will work if you just copy the XAML and code behind into a new WPF project. • ExpandableListView child items don't get focus when touched...

  Ok, so I wrote an ExpandableListView and subclassed BaseExpandableListAdapter... Everything works fine except I cannot get the child views to take focus when clicked. If I use the trackball everything works fine. But if I try to click on a child I get no feedback whatsoever. I have tried setting android:focusable, android:focusableInTouchMode, and android:clickable (and I have also tried setting this via code) but I can't get anything to work. Any ideas? Doing my first SL4 MVVM RIA based application and i ran into the following situation: updating a record (EF4,NO-POCOS!!) in the SL-client seems to take place, but values in the dbms are unchanged. Debugging with Fiddler the message on save is (amongst others): EntityActions.nil? b9http://schemas.microsoft.com/2003/10/Serialization/Arrays^HasMemberChanges?^Id?^ Operation?Update I assume that this says only: hey! the dbms should do an update on this record, AND nothing more! Is that right?! • N-Tier Architecture - Structure with multiple projects in VB.NET

  I would like some advice on the best approach to use in the following situation... I will have a Windows Application and a Web Application (presentation layers), these will both access a common business layer. The business layer will look at a configuration file to find the name of the dll (data layer) which it will create a reference to at runtime (is this the best approach?). The reason for creating the reference at runtime to the data access layer is because the application will interface with a different 3rd party accounting system depending on what the client is using. So I would have a separate data access layer to support each accounting system. These could be separate setup projects, each client would use one or the other, they wouldn't need to switch between the two. Projects: MyCompany.Common.dll - Contains interfaces, all other projects have a reference to this one. MyCompany.Windows.dll - Windows Forms Project, references MyCompany.Business.dll MyCompany.Web.dll - Website project, references MyCompany.Business.dll MyCompany.Busniess.dll - Business Layer, references MyCompany.Data.* (at runtime) MyCompany.Data.AccountingSys1.dll - Data layer for accounting system 1 MyCompany.Data.AccountingSys2.dll - Data layer for accounting system 2 The project MyCompany.Common.dll would contain all the interfaces, each other project would have a reference to this one.   I've install SCCM 2012 on a server and have successfully used the Remote Control option to take control of a system I've setup to be managed by SCCM. Now, I don't want to have to log in to a server every time I want to access this client...is there a way to run the Remote Control Viewer client on my desktop OS so I can take remote control of systems rather than having to remote in from the server? This seems like very basic functionality...but I haven't been able to figure it out thus far.

  I thought I had a working solution for converting .mdi files to PDF using the Microsoft Office Document Imaging object model. The solution is in a Windows Service, but now I'm running into some errors that I'm having trouble tracking down info on. The exception I get is: The server threw an exception. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT)) System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80010105): The server threw an exception. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT)) at MODI.DocumentClass.Create(String FileOpen) at DocumentStore.Mdi2PDF(String path, String newPath) Then, in the Event Viewer there is the following Application error: Faulting application MyWindowsServiceName.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4b97f185, faulting module mso.dll, version 12.0.6425.1000, time stamp 0x49d65443, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000bd8e, process id 0xa5c, application start time 0x01cac08cf032914b. Here's the method that is doing the conversion: private int? I also built a a console apps converting hundreds of documents and DID NOT get the exception. So, it seems to be caused by creating too many instances of the MODI object, but only instantiated within a Service? Doesn't quite make sense. Anybody have any clues about these errors and how to debug them further?

  Hello, I'm currently having an issue with my open result set not working how I believe it should. The only function that is currently working is the next() method, nothing else will work. If the project is placed into a debug mode you can follow through actionperformed event on the button it hits the previous() method and jumps over the remaining code in the method. • SQL Server Management Studio not scripting all objects

  i've been attempting to script a database using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. i cannot get it to script some objects. It scripts others, but skips some. i can provide detailed screen shots the options being selected including all tables the folder where the script files will go the folder being empty before scripting the scripting process saying Sucess when scripting a table the destination folder no longer empty, with a hundred or so script files the script of some tables not being in the folder. And earlier SSMS would not script some views. Is this a known thing that the the Generate Scripts task does not generate scripts? • F# and .Net versions

  I'm writing a program in F# at the moment, which I specified in the Visual Studio project setup to target .Net 3.5, this being the highest offered, on the theory that I might as well get the best available. Then I tried just now running the compiled program on an XP box, not expecting it to work, but just to see what would happen. Unsurprisingly I just got an error message demanding an appropriate version of the framework, but surprisingly it wasn't 3.5 it demanded, but 2.0.50727. An additional puzzle is the version of MSBuild I'm using to compile the release version of the program, which I found in the framework 3.5 directory but claims to be framework 2.0 and build engine 3.5. I just guessed it was the right version of MSBuild to use because it seemed to correspond with the highest framework version F# seems to be able to target, but should I be using a different version? Anyone have any idea what's going on? Also i am customizing it to include a License Agreement UI. And i am pointing the License Agreement window to read the license.rtf file which is being included in the Application folder.   I have three virtual hosts defined on apache on my Ubuntu server for three different domains. If I disable two of the virtual hosts (a2dissite) and try to resolve those two URL's in the browser, then the one remaining enabled site will resolve. How can I configure apache so that the domains for the disabled virtual hosts do not resolve?   After running chkdsk C: /F /R and finding out that my hard disk has 24 KB in bad sectors (log is posted below), I decided to run Windows 7's System File Checker utility (sfc /scannow). SFC showed the ff. message after I ran it: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log." Since the CBS.log file is too large, I ran findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" (as per Microsoft's KB 928228 article) to only get the log text pertaining to the corrupt files. (log is also posted below) How do I troubleshoot and repair the corrupted files mentioned by sfc /scannow?   I'm experimenting with IoC on my way to TDD by fiddling with an existing project. In a nutshell, my question is this: what are the best practices around IoC when public and non-public methods are of interest? There are two classes: public abstract class ThisThingBase { public virtual void Method1() {} public virtual void Method2() {} public ThatThing GetThat() { return new ThatThing(this); } internal virtual void Method3() {} internal virtual void Method4() {} } public class Thathing { public ThatThing(ThisThingBase thing) { m_thing = thing; } ... } ThatThing does some stuff using its ThisThingBase reference to call methods that are often overloaded by descendents of ThisThingBase. Method1 and Method2 are public. Method3 and Method4 are internal and only used by ThatThings. I would like to test ThatThing without ThisThing and vice-versa. Studying up on IoC my first thought was that I should define an IThing interface, implement it by ThisThingBase and pass it to the ThatThing constructor. IThing would be the public interface clients could call but it doesn't include Method3 or Method4 that ThatThing also needs. Should I define a 2nd interface - IThingInternal maybe - for those two methods and pass BOTH interfaces to ThatThing?
