  • Asynchronous sockets in C#

    - by IVlad
I'm confused about the correct way of using asynchronous socket methods in C#. I will refer to these two articles to explain things and ask my questions: MSDN article on asynchronous client sockets and devarticles.com article on socket programming. My question is about the BeginReceive() method. The MSDN article uses these two functions to handle receiving data: private static void Receive(Socket client) { try { // Create the state object. StateObject state = new StateObject(); state.workSocket = client; // Begin receiving the data from the remote device. client.BeginReceive( state.buffer, 0, StateObject.BufferSize, 0, new AsyncCallback(ReceiveCallback), state); } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine(e.ToString()); } } private static void ReceiveCallback( IAsyncResult ar ) { try { // Retrieve the state object and the client socket // from the asynchronous state object. StateObject state = (StateObject) ar.AsyncState; Socket client = state.workSocket; // Read data from the remote device. int bytesRead = client.EndReceive(ar); if (bytesRead > 0) { // There might be more data, so store the data received so far. state.sb.Append(Encoding.ASCII.GetString(state.buffer,0,bytesRead)); // Get the rest of the data. client.BeginReceive(state.buffer,0,StateObject.BufferSize,0, new AsyncCallback(ReceiveCallback), state); } else { // All the data has arrived; put it in response. if (state.sb.Length > 1) { response = state.sb.ToString(); } // Signal that all bytes have been received. receiveDone.Set(); } } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine(e.ToString()); } } While the devarticles.com tutorial passes null for the last parameter of the BeginReceive method, and goes on to explain that the last parameter is useful when we're dealing with multiple sockets. Now my questions are: What is the point of passing a state to the BeginReceive method if we're only working with a single socket? Is it to avoid using a class field? It seems like there's little point in doing it, but maybe I'm missing something. How can the state parameter help when dealing with multiple sockets? If I'm calling client.BeginReceive(...), won't all the data be read from the client socket? The devarticles.com tutorial makes it sound like in this call: m_asynResult = m_socClient.BeginReceive (theSocPkt.dataBuffer,0,theSocPkt.dataBuffer.Length, SocketFlags.None, pfnCallBack, theSocPkt); Data will be read from the theSocPkt.thisSocket socket, instead of from the m_socClient socket. In their example the two are one and the same, but what happens if that is not the case? I just don't really see where that last argument is useful or at least how it helps with multiple sockets. If I have multiple sockets, I still need to call BeginReceive on each of them, right?

  • Wildcards not being substituted

    - by user21463
#!/bin/bash loc=`echo ~/.gvfs/*/DCIM/100_FUJI` rm -f /mnt/fujifilmA100 ln -s "$loc" /mnt/fujifilmA100 For some reason the variable * doesn't get substituted with the only possible value and gets given the value /home/chris/.gvfs/*/DCIM/100_FUJI. Does anyone have an idea of why? Please note: If global expansion fails, the pattern is not substituted. I ran the commands: chris@comp2008:~$ loc=`echo ~/.gvfs/*/DCIM/100_FUJI ` chris@comp2008:~$ echo $loc /home/chris/.gvfs/gphoto2 mount on usb%3A001,008/DCIM/100_FUJI So we can see the expansion should work I have now switched to using: loc = `find ~/.gvfs -name 100_FUJI ` I am just curious why it doesn't work as is. Debugging output using sh -x echo /home/chris/.gvfs/*/DCIM/100_FUJI loc=/home/chris/.gvfs/*/DCIM/100_FUJI rm -f /mnt/fujifilmA100 ln -s /home/chris/.gvfs/*/DCIM/100_FUJI/mnt/fujifilmA100

  • Linux: Simulate Serial Connection from Arduino

    - by shanet
I'm trying to simulate the serial connection from an Arduino into a Processing applet since I don't have an Arduino at the moment. Simply, I'm trying to just send bytes from Bash to a serial connection (on /dev/ttyS0) which the Processing applet will pick up like it would from an Arduino. I tried the answer to this question: How can I send data to the serial port from a Linux shell?, but it's simply not working and I don't know how to go about debugging something like this since I've never played with serial connections before. Any advice? Thanks much.

  • Web application vs. web services vs. classic application

    - by Cicik
Please I need help. I have project in which I need application which communicates with local DB server and simultaneously with central remote DB server to complete some task(read stock quotas from local server create order and then write order to central orders DB,...). So, I don`t know which architecture and technology do this. Web application, .NET WinForms client applications on each computer, or web services based central application with client applications? What are general differences between this approaches? Thanks

  • (svh+ssh) getting bash to load my PATH over SSH

    - by Eli Bendersky
This problem comes up with me trying to make svnserve (Subversion server) available on a server through SSH. I compiled SVN and installed it in $HOME/bin. Local access to it (not through SSH) works fine. Connections to svn+ssh fail due to: bash: svnserve: command not found Debugging this, I've found that: ssh user@server "which svnserve" says: which: no svnserve in (/usr/bin:/bin) This is strange, because I've updated the path to $HOME/bin in my .bashrc, and also added it in ~/.ssh/environment. However, it seems like the SSH doesn't read it. Although when I run: ssh user@server "echo $PATH" It does print my updated path! What's going on here? How can I make SSH find my svnserve? Thanks in advance

  • How to download source, modify source, recompile and build .deb package?

    - by burnersk
I have to customize my Apache2 suExec module to ensure some special environment variables getting passed through suExec. How to download the source code form Debian package apache2-suexec, modify suexec.c - safe_env_lst, recompile and build a .deb package again to rollout on the production systems? I tried apt-get source apache2-suexec but didn't found the suexec.c within the occurred apache2-* folder. The altered source code should be like this: static const char *const safe_env_lst[] = { /* variable name starts with */ "HTTP_", "SSL_", /* NEW: Perl debugging variables */ "PERL5OPT=", "PERL5LIB=", "PERLDB_OPTS=", "DBGP_IDEKEY=", /* NEW: FCGI variables */ "FCGI=", "FCGI_CONNECTION=", "FCGI_RUNTIME=", "FCGI_STARTTIME=", draft based on: http://static.askapache.com/httpd/support/suexec.c

  • In SASL authentication, are the messages between a particular client and server the same every time

    - by karenc
I wrote a test client and server using the Cyrus SASL library, and I'm manually forcing it to select GSSAPI as the mechanism. While debugging, I printed the md5sum of each message as it was passed between the two. I noticed that the sequence seems to be the same every time I connect. That is, if the message sequence on the first negotiation was clientMessage1, serverResponse1, clientMessage2, etc... to successful authentication, if I then restart my client, the same clientMessage1, serverResponse2, clientMessage2,etc... sequence is repeated. It seems to me like it would be a security concern. Is this the correct behavior and if so, should I be wrapping these communications in TLS or something?

  • Quickest way to find the oldest file in a directory using Delphi

    - by Pieter van Wyk
HI We have a large number of remote computers that capture video onto disk drives. Each camera has it's own unique directory and there can be up to 16 directories on any one disk. I'm trying to locate the oldest video file on the disk but using FindFirst/FindNext to compare the File Creation DateTime takes forever. Does anybody know of a more efficient way of finding the oldest file in a directory? We remotely connect to the pc's from a central HO location. Regards, Pieter

  • Paramiko and Pseudo-tty Allocation

    - by Jon
I'm trying to use Paramiko to connect to a remote host and execute a number of text file substitutions. i, o, e = client.exec_command("perl -p -i -e 's/" + initial + "/" + replaced + "/g'" + conf); Some of these commands need to be run as sudo, which results in: sudo: sorry, you must have a tty to run sudo I can force pseudo-tty allocation with the -t switch and ssh. Is it possible to do the same thing using paramiko?

  • TCP Zero Window with no corresponding Window Update

    - by Gandalf
I am trying to debug a network issue and am using Wireshark and tcpdump to grab packets from my server. I have one client application that is grabbing all my available connections and then holding them, trying to send A LOT of data and essentially causing an unintentional DOS attack. While debugging I notice that I see my server sending "Window Closed" and "Zero Window" TCP packets - but never sending any "Window Update" packets. I am guessing this is why the client never lets go of the connections (it still has more data to send and is waiting). Has anyone ever seen this type of behavior before? Let's not get into the reasons why I haven't set up an iptables rule to limit concurrent connections (yeah I know). I also recently changed the MTU from 1500 to 9000 - could this have such a negative effect? (Linux) Thanks.

  • ASP/VBScript ServerXmlHttp Encoding

    - by colinramsay
I'm pulling an RSS feed from a remote location using ServerXmlHttp: Dim httpRequest set httpRequest = server.createObject("Msxml2.ServerXMLHTTP.6.0") httpRequest.open "GET", "http://www.someurl.com/feed.xml", false httpRequest.send() response.write httpRequest.responseXML.xml However there must be encoding issues somewhere along the line as I'm seeing ???? where there should be some Japanese characters. Does anyone have any guidance when working with ServerXmlHttp? Thanks.

  • Is there any WinSCP equivalent for linux?

    - by MiniQuark
I love WinSCP for Windows. What are the best equivalent softwares for linux? I tried to use sshfs to mount the remote file system on my local machine, but it is not as user friendly as simply launching a GUI, plus it seems to require root access on the client machine, which is not very convenient. Of course command line tools such as scp are possible, but I am looking for a simple GUI. Thanks!

  • c# WebRequest class and headers

    - by Sir Psycho
Hi, When I try to set the header properties on a WebRequest object, I get the following exception This header must be modified using the appropriate property I've tried modifying the .Headers propery and adding them that way like so webRequest.Headers.Add(HttpRequestHeader.Referer, "http://stackoverflow.com"); But still getting exceptions. I can get around this by casting the WebRequest object to a HttpWebRequest and setting the properties such as httpWebReq.Referer ="http://stackoverflow.com" But I'd like to know if there's a way to get a finer grained control over modifying headers with a request for a remote resource. Thanks

  • USB Keyboard not working under windows 7 x64?

    - by Comboo
I have two usb keyboards, one no-name cheapo thing and an old logitech. When i plug them in to my computer they pop up in device manager as "Unknown device" respective "USB-receiver". Both of them fail to install any drivers, neighter automatically or through windows update. Both keyboards work perfectly on another computer i have with vista 32bit. Can this be one of those cases where a device does not work in 64bit version of windows? I doubt it though since I've never had that problem before with any device and i thought that basic things like keyboards would be kind of failsafe. I don't really know how to start debugging this issue. I've tried all the obvious, rebooting, changing usb-port etc. Are there any generic x64 keyboard drivers you can use? Is there any way to find the manufacturer of the keyboard over usb? There is nothing written on it.

  • Winsock Connect Problem with Eset Nod32

    - by AFgone
Dear All, my socket library which is implemented using winsock2 is working properly. But when ESET Nod32 installed on the computer, connect() function returns 0(zero) ,that is success, even if remote host is not available. I looked with netstat -b command and saw that ekrn.exe is accepting the client. And after couple of seconds it sends zero byte of information, which means graceful close. So how can I overcome this problem? Many thanks, regards...

  • MacFUSE: Keepalive?

    - by Wilco
Is there a way to configure MacFUSE to keep a mounted volume alive if the remote host is set to break the connection due to inactivity? If there is no direct way to configure this, would there be a way to write a script to accomplish this?
