Developing for Chrome App/Android?

I have been developing for win7 mobile (XNA/silverlight and will continue to do so, love everything about it) but I wanted to branch a few of my more polished games to google app store online, and perhaps android(though not sure, as with all the different versions it makes learning/loading applications a bit tricky) What is the most versatile language to start learning from chrome apps/android: Java would be excellent for android, but could I port it to a web app for chrome? (and its close to C#) Flash would work for a web app as I can just embed it into a html page (have done actionscript before, didn't care much for the IDE though), but would it also work on android? or I guess there is always C/C++ but haven't heard much about that, though I think it works for both (though C++ does interest me) Any advice would be excellent, thanks.

How to slow down a sprite that updates every frame?

I am going through a Allegro 5 tutorial which has a game loop. There is also a variable "active" which determines if a key is being held down. Thus if the left key is being held down active is on and it begins looping through the row on the sprite sheet that corresponds to moving left. The problem is that this logic is checked everytime the loop is performed thus at approximately 60 fps the three images that are used to do the left walking animation cycle round super fast which means my character looks like it is in a rush. Total beginner question: so what is the correct way to slow down the transition between sprites so that the walking looks like it is done at a moderate pace. Here is the code used to transition across the sprite between the three different phases of the person walking: if (active) { sourceX += al_get_bitmap_width(player) / 3; } else { sourceX = 32; } if (sourceX >= al_get_bitmap_width(player)) { sourceX = 0; } I can kind of guess what it should be in plain English: update sourceX only every certain part of a second but I can't think of how to put this into code.

Moonlight extension not working with new Firefox versions

The web browser I use is Firefox (currently in version 8 in Oneiric). According the Compatibility Check information the Moonlight extension is not compatible with FF8. Anyway, I enabled this extension using the AddOn Compatibility Reporter. And, actually, I cannot watch Silverlight streams in an acceptable way: the video gets stuck, the HD keeps buffering (I guess), so I have to close the window. Does anybody know if there is a way to fix this or a suitable alternative? I'm looking for something which is fully supported and mantained.

Why ADF Developers Should Attend ODTUG This Year

If you are using Oracle ADF or planning to pick it up in the next year, I would encourage you to try and attend this year's ODTUG K-Scope conference. If you are not familiar with it, ODTUG - the Oracle Development Tools User Groups - holds a yearly conference that is very technical in nature. It is not a huge conference in terms of the number of attendees, but this just means that you have more opportunities to interact with Oracle ACEs, Oracle Product Managers, and other developers. The conference is known to be a no-fluff, no-marketing, technical conference. This year however there is one key new thing that should be of interest to readers of this blog. A new track called the "Fusion Middleware" track has been formed and it has lots of sessions for any level of ADF developer. The track is run by several Oracle ACEs who are also involved in the ADF Enterprise Methodology Group. They have sessions for every level of ADF awareness - from the beginner to the expert, and you can also learn about related technologies such as WebCenter and SOA Suite. Most of the sessions are run by users who share their real world experience with the technology. And me and other PMs will also be running a few sessions and hands-on labs there. My Visual Studio 2010 Dark Theme

Everyone has their preferences for their development IDE. Colors, fonts, tools, keyboard shortcuts, etc. Im certainly no different. I really prefer the darker themes over the white background. The brightness of the white background wears on me after a while. The dark theme sets me in a mellow coding mood :) I dont generally keep a theme exactly as is for a long time. How to implement a birds eye view of 2D Grid Map using Android

I'm a true beginner with using the android platform and I'm having difficulties on implementing a 2D grid system for a tower defense type game. Where I can place towers on a specific tile and enemies will be able to traverse through tiles etc. What I would like is a practical explanation of how I could tackle this. A step by step guide for dummies. This is what I believe are the necessary steps to take, I think I might be wrong but I hope someone could help me out. Calculate the Width and Height of the view I'm working with. Based on that, determine the number of tiles required and their dimensions, (Still not sure how I would do this) Create each tile as a Rectangle object and draw these rectangle on a canvas I would really be grateful if someone could steer me in the right direction on how to implement a 2D Grid Map using android. I hope the answer to this questions helps the TRUE beginners out there like me. I have looked at the following links below yet I still feel that I don't trully understand what's going on.
