  • jQuery.each for lists and non-lists

    I've a jQuery.each(data, foo), where data is either a string or a list of strings. I'd like to know if there's an existing utility function to convert the string to a list, or otherwise perform foo on just the string. So instead of the easy route: if (!$.isArray(data)) { foo(0, data); // can't rely on `this` variable } else { $.each(data,foo); } I was just wondering if there was already a builtin function of jQuery or Javascript that would convert data to a list automatically, like this: function convert_to_list(data) { return $.isArray(data) ? data : [data]; } $.each(convert_to_list(data), foo); Just curious!   • Is there a way to generate a gitignore from a makefile?

    I have a lot of files such as JavaScript, HTML, and even C and C header (.h) files which are automatically generated, so they appear in the makefile like myfile.js: myfile.js.tmpl etc. I want all of these target files to be ignored by the version control system. I am using git but this question is not git-specific. Is there a utility or a trick which exists to make the ignore file (like .gitignore) from a makefile? (If there isn't such a facility, I can make a script to create one, but before I do that I am just checking I haven't missed some obvious tool or method.)

  • How to read and modify the colorspace of an image in c#

    I'm loading a Bitmap from a jpg file. If the image is not 24bit RGB, I'd like to convert it. The conversion should be fairly fast. The images I'm loading are up to huge (9000*9000 pixel with a compressed size of 40-50MB). How can this be done? Btw: I don't want to use any external libraries if possible. But if you know of an open source utility class performing the most common imaging tasks, I'd be happy to hear about it. Thanks in advance.

  • Vertical mouse scrolling wheel not working in VS 2010 Ultimate

    The title says it all. I tried it with two different mice- both of which work perfectly fine in all other applications. The mouse is MS Intellimouse Optical. I even tried to speed up the vertical scroll through the mouse utility and still nothing. It barely moves the code a tiny bit and then it stops. I had no problems at all with VS 2008 which is concurrently installed in the same machine. Am I the only one having this???

    But it clearly does not fail on my system. The Verification test in XCode during the submission should (I assume) test this. And running codesign on the command line of the archived app results in: /Users/iac/Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/Archived Applications/272860A0-961E-47E7-B62F-0F7D373D938A.apparchive/Kiwi.app: valid on disk /Users/iac/Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/Archived Applications/272860A0-961E-47E7-B62F-0F7D373D938A.apparchive/Kiwi.app: satisfies its Designated Requirement Anyone run into something like this before?   • Programmatically convert WAV

    Hi, I'm writing a file compressor utility in C++ that I want support for PCM WAV files, however I want to keep it in PCM encoding and just convert it to a lower sample rate and change it from stereo to mono if applicable to yield a lower file size. I understand the WAV file header, however I have no experience or knowledge of the actual sound data works. So my question is, would it be relatively easy to programmatically manipulate the "data" sub-chunk in a WAV file to convert it to another sample rate and change the channel number, or would I be much better off using an existing library for it? If it is, then how would it be done? Thanks in advance.

  • How "duplicated" Java code is optimized by the JVM JIT compiler?

    I'm in charge of maintaining a JSP based application, running on IBM WebSphere 6.1 (IBM J9 JVM). All JSP pages have a static include reference and in this include file there is some static Java methods declared. They are included in all JSP pages to offer an "easy access" to those utility static methods. I know that this is a very bad way to work, and I'm working to change this. But, just for curiosity, and to support my effort in changing this, I'm wondering how these "duplicated" static methods are optimized by the JVM JIT compiler. They are optimized separately even having the exact same signature? Does the JVM JIT compiler "sees" that these methods are all identical an provides an "unified" JIT'ed code?

  • How to: mirror a staging server from a production server

    We want to mirror our current production app server (Oracle Application Server) onto our staging server. As it stands right now, various things are out of sync, and what may work in testing/QA can easily fail in production because of settings/patch/etc inconsistencies. I was thinking what would be best is to clone the entire disk daily and push it onto the staging server... Would this be the best method...?

    From my Django application I want to serve up secure photos. The photos are not for public consumption, I only want logged in users to have the ability to view them. I don't want to rely on obfuscated file id's (giving a photo a UUID of a long number) and count on that being hidden in my media folder. How would I store a photo securely on disk in my database and only stream it out to an authenticated session?

    I need to find out the physical path of a grails GSP file. My requirement is that I want to create a new layout file at run-time and use that in the application. I have been able to achieve this without problem when the application runs on jetty (grails run-app), however, when I deploy the app on Jboss, the path at which the file needs to be created changes. So, ideally I would like to find out at runtime using some magical utility the path of a particular GSP (lets say main.gsp layout file) and I need to create my new layout in the same directory in which main.gsp reside. Any pointers? -Deepak

  • How to export more than 1MB in XML format using sqlcmd and without an input file?

    Hello, In SQL Server 2008, I want to export the result of a stored procedure to a file using sqlcmd utility. Now the end of my stored procedure is a select statement with a "for xml path.." clause at the end. I read on BOL that if I don't want my output truncated when reaching 1MB file size, I have to use this :XML ON command, but it should be placed on its own line, before calling the stored procedure. Does any of you experts know if it is possible to do that without specifying an input file for sqlcmd? (I'm calling sqlcmd like this: exec master..xp_cmdshell 'sqlcmd -Q"exec storedProcedureName @param1=value1, @param2=value2" -o c:\exportResults.xml -h-1 -E', but "storedProcedureName" and its parameters can change, which would mean 1 input file per passed parameters to sqlcmd) Also, it seems that I can't use bcp instead of sqlcmd because my stored procedure is creating a temporary table and performing DML statements on it?   • How to maximize http.sys file upload performance

    I'm building a tool that transfers very large streaming data sets (possibly on the order of terabytes in a single stream; routinely in the tens of gigabytes) from one server to another. The client portion of the tool will read blocks from the source disk, and send them over the network. The server side will read these blocks off the network and write them to a file on the server disk. Right now I'm trying to decide which transport to use. Options are raw TCP, and HTTP. I really, REALLY want to be able to use HTTP. The HttpListener (or WCF if I want to go that route) make it easy to plug in to the HTTP Server API (http.sys), and I can get things like authentication and SSL for free. The problem right now is performance. I wrote a simple test harness that sends 128K blocks of NULL bytes using the BeginWrite/EndWrite async I/O idiom, with async BeginRead/EndRead on the server side. I've modified this test harness so I can do this with either HTTP PUT operations via HttpWebRequest/HttpListener, or plain old socket writes using TcpClient/TcpListener. To rule out issues with network cards or network pathways, both the client and server are on one machine and communicate over localhost. On my 12-core Windows 2008 R2 test server, the TCP version of this test harness can push bytes at 450MB/s, with minimal CPU usage. On the same box, the HTTP version of the test harness runs between 130MB/s and 200MB/s depending upon how I tweak it. In both cases CPU usage is low, and the vast majority of what CPU usage there is is kernel time, so I'm pretty sure my usage of C# and the .NET runtime is not the bottleneck. The box has two 6-core Xeon X5650 processors, 24GB of single-ranked DDR3 RAM, and is used exclusively by me for my own performance testing. I already know about HTTP client tweaks like ServicePointManager.MaxServicePointIdleTime, ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit, ServicePointManager.Expect100Continue, and HttpWebRequest.AllowWriteStreamBuffering. Does anyone have any ideas for how I can get HTTP.sys performance beyond 200MB/s? Has anyone seen it perform this well on any environment?

  • Specify IP address of WCF endpoint at runtime

    I have a bunch of remote machines all running the same WCF service over HTTP. I have a central configuration utility that needs to decide at runtime which of these to connect to. I do not want to define all the endpoints in the configuration file because this is all database driven. I naively tried this: CustomerServiceClient GetClientForIPAddress(string ipAddress) { string address = String.Format("http://{0}/customerservice.svc", ipAddress); var client = new CustomerServiceClient("?", address); return client; } where CustomerServiceClient is my service reference proxy class, but (unsurprisingly) it gave me the following error: Could not find endpoint element with name '?' and contract 'SkyWalkerCustomerService.ICustomerService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this name could be found in the client element. So how do I declare an endpoint at runtime and point my service reference to it? .NET 3.5

    I came accross this link that talks about the technology used with Animoto.com And it seems like they use AIR to export their flash animations to bitmaps that ffmpeg compil as a movie. http://labs.animoto.com/2009/06/07/presenting-filmstrip/ "It also takes time to render, so what you’re seeing isn’t realtime. It’s a series of Flash-generated frames that have been saved out using AIR and processed into an MP4 after the fact using a utility called FFmpeg." Does that mean AIR is installed on the server?   • How to write a linter?

    In my day job I, and others on my team write a lot of hardware models in Verilog-AMS, a language supported primarily by commercial vendors and a few opensource simulator projects. One thing that would make supporting each others code more helpful would be a LINTER that would check our code for common problems and assist with enforcing a shared code formatting style. I of course want to be able to add my own rules and, after I prove their utility to myself, promote them to the rest of the team.. I don't mind doing the work that has to be done, but of course also want to leverage the work of other existing projects. Does having the allowed language syntax in a yacc or bison format give me a leg up? or should I just suck each language statement into a perl string, and use pattern matching to find the things I don't like? (most syntax and compilation errors are easily caught by the commercial tools.. but we have some of our own extentions.)

    For a small utility I am writing (.NET, C#), I want to monitor clipboard copy operations and clipboard paste operations. My idea is to provide my own data when pasting into an arbitrary application. The monitoring of a copy operation can be easily done by using a clipboard viewer. Something that seems much more advanced to me is to write a "clipboard paste provider": Answer to "what formats are available" queries of applications. Supply data to application paste operations. I found this posting and this posting, but none of them seems to really help me. What I guess is that I somehow have to mimic/hijack the current clipboard. Question: Is it possible to "wrap" the clipboard in terms of paste operations and provide my own kind of "clipboard proxy"? Thanks Uwe

    Does anyone know of a method I can use to programmatically detect if a SATA hard drive has been unplugged? Our file system is mounted in READ-ONLY mode when we need to detect the removal of the drive. We noticed the other day that we were able to unplug a hard drive and everything continued to run without a hitch until the next time we attempted to read from a file on disk.

    I am trying to use NHiberanate with NDbUnit but I cannot as NDbUnit tried to load MySql.Data version 1.0.10.1 and NHibernate tries to load version 6.2.2.0 and I can only reference one of them.
